The pick up lady gave me a free drink. The rest of my order never came, she left for her break. Opened my sausage dog, they just threw a few uncooked green peppers on it and 3 onions. I'm always fond of a BBQ smokehouse that offers more than traditional NC pork. I'm a huge fan of Brisket, but most BBQ places I've been to in NC loves to smother it in sauce. I prefer dry rub for all of my smoked meats. So being that City BBQ offers dry rub and sauces on the side is a huge plus. Everything was pretty good, collards a bit salty. But overall I've been here twice and I've enjoyed both meals. The Pastrami Rueben was really good also. read more

My son had City Barbecue cater his wedding this past weekend. The food was hot and delicious. Everyone truly enjoyed their meal. I guess I should have read the reviews before ordering a catering to go. Scheduled pick up for 11:15. I got there at 11:15 hoping the order might be early. WRONG! I went to the order pickup counter and waited 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged my existence. Some guy told me "they are working on it". I noticed about 7 other people waiting around, and they were ALL catering orders. I've never had a worse experience. Finally got my order at 11:45, 30 minutes late. Got back to my office and I was missing plates, serving utensils, and BBQ sauce, and 2lbs of pork. What an embarrassment. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and the Mac and cheese and coleslaw. The wife ordered a regular bbq sandwich and Mac and cheese. My chicken sandwich was good but not as good as I hoped. Been waiting sooo long for a City BBQ closer to home! I'm from WNC and the BBQ in the Peidmont is not what I'm used to, lol! This is more palatable to me. And oh how I've missed mustard based sauce (LowCo)! This High Point location officially opened today. I ordered online and it was ready when I arrived. Staff was friendly. I order from the High Point location often. Service has gone downhill. Recently I waited for over 30 minutes for a curbside order. Finally flagged someone down and they told me they were out of pastrami. Who knows how long I would have waited if I hadn't stopped someone. Today, I waited again for 30 minutes to be told they were out of mac and cheese. They also would not refund the money for the mac and cheese. I was told I could choose another side but no refund. My friend and I were thinking about what to have for dinner, and barbecue came to mind. We had been wanting to try this restaurant and this was conveniently located on our way home. Immediately upon opening the door, the enticing aroma of the bbq hit our noses. fantastic! Being our first time here, the super nice young woman working the counter happily let us take our time, and helped us with questions we had. After ordering, our food was ready very quickly, and everything that was supposed to be hot was, as well as being super tender and cooked well. All the meats on our sampler were delicious and I especially liked the turkey. The Mac and cheese was also a perfect temp and delicious! We also ordered the potato salad and I have to say it was the BEST potato salad Ive had in a restaurant. The restaurant was well lit and had pleasant music playing just loud enough, not overwhelming like it often is in other places these days. The drink area was well stocked and we liked being able to make our own 'Arnold Palmers'. The selection of sauces was great and all the bottles were full enough. We understand staffing issues have hit the entire restaurant industry, so we don't mind over looking a few things as long as the service and food are good, which they were. Went to City BBQ Saturday night. Restaurant was not very busy. Customers were all waiting on their orders to be completed. My order finally came available and was missing the hushpuppies. Went back to the counter and had to wait for an order. The hush puppies were the worst I have ever had. My entree was the 1/2 chicken and was very tender and delicious. The Mac and cheese was good. We also had the BBQ sandwich which was on par with other local BBQ restaurants. The building has BBQ pits on site, which is a criteria for a good BBQ restaurant. read more

I called the manager and they told me how much brisket is supposed to weigh & it didn't. I paid over $20 & was offered another serving of brisket if I come back so I went back. That was a mistake because the manager pulled off pieces that were leftovers from other brisket ends that had a lot of fat. They are skimping on the quantity for their over priced foods. I'm not hugely into bbq, so I wasn't necessarily approaching this like any kind of connoisseur or anything like that. Just excited to try a new place in my neighborhood. And from that standpoint, I'm pleased! Passed the vibe check right away and lots of appealing options to choose from. In fact, all four of us had a hard time picking. I ended up with the chili mac and a side of hush puppies. The chili mac needed a little salt and it came out luke warm. I think it would have been much, much better if it was bubbling hot. Hush puppies were solid and the portion was large. I'd do one for the table next time. If I hadn't had the opportunity to taste my family's food, I probably would have landed on 3 stars. But my husband's sampler + coleslaw were good and my son's Nashville hot chicken tenders were outstanding. My other son loved the ribs and I heard his peach cobbler was divine. The service was super friendly. They really made you feel right at home. Overall it did feel a little pricy, but at the same time we had lots of leftovers to bring home with us so it didn't necessarily feel like a bad value. We'll be back! read more
