Steak frites
Olakunle O.

Lovely ambiance, great service, and solid food characterize this cozy restaurant. The wait staff was exceptional and I love anywhere with actual towels in the bathroom. I ordered the steak frites which were solid and well prepared if unremarkable. I tried my sister's chicken and the crispiness was lovely. I would recommend it. 85/100

Crab croquettes. Get these!

This was a wonderful place to meet friends for a double date dinner! It's cozy, byob, and has amazing food. They also have a wonderful selection of teas. There are unlimited free refills and for $1, you can get them iced. I got the la vie en rose tea iced, which was delicious. They give you a small pitcher of simple syrup to sweeten it as you like. Our server was very attentive and was happy to answer questions anyone had about dishes. There is a $5 corkage fee per bottle, but they list that at the top of the menu so you're aware. We started with the crab croquettes, which we all loved. The croquettes were super crispy on the exterior, but decadently creamy and pillowy inside. The flavor of crab was great and the Yuzu-wasabi aioli went well with each bite. I ordered the Duck A L'Orient. The duck was cooked medium-well, but the skin wasn't quite as crispy as I like it to be. The orange demi-glacé was yummy, but the potatoes were amazing! I never had potatoes done like these---they looked like sea scallops. They had a gorgeous crust on the outside and were super fluffy inside. My husband ordered the fish du jour and we both agreed that was the best dish of the ones we tried. The fish was perfectly executed and the skin was fantastic. The accompaniments were all top-notch and the flavors blended nicely. We also sampled our friends' steak and frites. The fries were crazy good, but the steak was chewy. The bordelaise served with the steak was incredible. I could eat that on toast and be happy! In addition to a few other choices, they have 2 dessert soufflés to chose from and mentioned when we ordered our entrees to let them know if we want those. It takes about 25 minutes to prepare the soufflés. We split their namesake soufflé and were impressed. The soufflé itself was perfectly cooked and had a very mild lemongrass flavor. The coconut creme anglaise really made it for me. You poke a hole into the soufflé and pour the creme anglaise inside. Ahh! It tasted like a tropical paradise. We like to try new places each time we visit Lancaster, but this will definitely be a repeat location.

Great menu, service, and food. I think about the duck confit every other day. Service was great and got to try a ton of new stuff.

Wonderful classic french restaurant. Perfect for date night - I have a young child and would not bring her along. Small space as well so definitely book a reservation in advance!

Cozy, lovely, delicious. I was won over immediately by the gracious greeting and the well-designed seating, and then we got the food! My tomato salad was a beautiful platter with a dressing that let me taste the glories of the ripe tomatoes without distracting. This was a meal in itself, but I boldly dug into the fish of the day, a crispy-skinned barramundi on an ample bed of the chef's take on succotash (it included the tiniest pattypan squashes ever). Again, the flavors of the food were enhanced, not smeared over by the sauce. My partner had a huge plate of Waygu beef carpaccio with aoli accents -- very tender. He followed that with a chicken dish that he really enjoyed but couldn't clean the plate because the serving was king-size. No room for dessert, so we shared some perky mango and berry sorbets. A romantic BYOB with a lot of class and a respect for fine ingredients.

My one regret is that it took me so long to get here! The restaurant is small, seats about 30, so reservations are highly recommended. It's cozy and intimate. BOYB is always a plus. We shared the Crab Croquettes as an appetizer and they were absolutely divine. Beautifully presented, flakey on the outside, soft, creamy, and airy on the inside. The cucumber and alfalfa shoots were a lovely touch of texture and added beauty. The mixed green salad paired with the octopus added acidity and balance to what can sometimes be a bland food choice. The octopus was slightly overcooked for my preference, but by no means did this make the dish less appealing. Seasonal vegetables, how can one go wrong? Fresh and flavorful on their own, but roasted to perfection.

Make sure to book your table ahead of time as it's a small intimate restaurant. Crab croquettes- must get!! Cheesy, good crab flavor and lightly crispy! Octopus- very tender and the sauces work well to deliver an impactful bite. Fish of the day- if you like fish, you should probably get it regardless what fish it is. That day was barramundi- so flaky and the skin was extremely crispy. Yummy Ended with carrot cake and was delightful. Amazing meal without breaking the bank. Highly recommend!

New patio is nice

We came to see the new patio outback and some new menu offerings. Awesome patio! Clearly took a lot of time and money. Service was great today and the owner was very sweet. The food, however, still didn't impress me much. The burger was overwhelming, dripping in cheese. The lamb bolognese gnocchi were drowning in fennel and grease but the lamb sauce had great taste. The focaccia and earl grey tea were the highlights. I like the atmosphere and the friendly owners but just don't like the food as much as elsewhere. This is s story in three acts: I. Ate duck and pork and loved it all. Was convinced this was the holy grail of the Lancaster fancy movement. II. Came for a "global Wednesday" dinner which featured Korean food. Had slimy boiled chicken which terrified me. III. Yesterday: The dishes of beef carpaccio, (thin raw beef), vichyssoise (potato soup), crispy duck, and ny strip were all in the very good to excellent range. But service was pretty bad. The server had no social skill and seemed overwhelmed. I also personally find most of the well-off diners annoying and loud and since it's all in a tiny space it makes it less relaxing. I literally bumped into the chair behind me multiple times. So, I admire this place for the food and it's attempt at haute cuisine dining but not all the food is amazing and the service is inconsistent. I think if they focused on a very limited menu and hired servers with experience they could compete with the best!

Butternut Squash Soup
Lori S.

My new favorite restaurant- better than a 2X more expensive dinner we had at Tinto in Philadelphia! Every single dish was excellent, well executed and delicious. The attention to detail was noticeable and the service was very good. We enjoyed that it was a BYOB. We (3 people) enjoyed the crab croquettes, the octopus and the butternut squash soup, and our main courses included barramundi (2) & the pork loin. For dessert we devoured the spice cake & flan, along with two soufflés. We will be back! PS -none of these dishes were as simple as described (see photos), for example the soup had these tasty little fried eggplant croquettes and the soup was very spicy and tasty!

Croquetes & Americano

We loved the dinner and experience at Citronelle! The Lobster Croquetes, Autumn Harvest, and Carrot was delicious. This was a new restaurant for us and only recommend bringing a bottle of wine (it's byob only).

We went here for dinner for our anniversary on our first night of staying at Lancaster. The place is super small, romantic, and quaint. Perfect for a date night. The menu is very unique, but small. There was a lot of tasty exotic teas, which was what I think I liked most. You can have them hot or iced, and get free refills! I've never seen this in a restaurant like this before. I got the vie en rose iced tea and it was amazing! I got the lamb bolognese for my entree, and it was good but different than I expected. There was many different flavors such as fennel, feta, and lamb. They did work well together, I would give it a 7-8/10 My boyfriend got the vegetable polenta. It was perfectly crispy, and filling. Savory and had many vegetables on it. Garnished with a parm crisp.

Signature Citronnelle Soufflé
Kathy W.

Never thought I find great French restaurant in Lancaster, but this one is definitely a great place to try. All the dishes are very thoughtfully prepared and delicious. the small bread served were superb. we had Moroccan Spiced Free-Range Australian Lamb Loin and Trois Petits Cochons, both were great.. the lamb was very tender and flavorful.. the 3 kinds of por just had different texture and flavor and the Shaved Brussels Sprouts was wonderful (I don't usually like brussels sprouts). And you can't leave without trying their Signature Citronnelle Soufflé, my husband loved it (he usually does not even like dessert), and I had Dark Chocolate Soufflé and it was great too. cons - our dishes did take a long time to arrive, but it was worth the wait. I am glad to tried this place and will definitely be back next time.

We had gotten the Beef Empanadas and Dumpling Squash Beignets. The beignets weren't what we were expecting but were delicious. They were fried balls with squash cooked inside - very tasty. The empanadas were just as good with plenty of beef and a great aioli. All around, an amazing first experience here. The ambience was lively and service was great. I had the rainbow trout for entree, for which the cuts were coming up short so they asked if shrimp was ok to add. I enjoyed the flavor of the shrimp, but I think the fish lacked seasoning- it was the only plate I didn't enjoy. Had the Aim to spark cocktail, a very well balanced drink! I'd visit again!

I was expecting a decent amount of food, but this was SO much food for a tasting menu. We couldn't even finish everything. The tasting menu came with 6 different dishes, so it was a really fun way to try a bunch of things. First were the boquerones in olive oil with bread. The anchovies were fresh tasting and pleasantly briny without being overwhelmingly fishy. And they give you SO much olive oil. They also brought us more bread, which was honestly perfect because I was absolutely going to use that bread to soak up every last drop of the olive oil. Then came the garlic and tomato topped baguette. Simple but really good. The garlic and tomato gave the bread a ton of flavor without being too heavy. The fried potatoes were another favorite. Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside, and just really satisfying. Definitely the kind of thing you keep reaching for even after you've told yourself you're full. The jamón croquetas were delicious too. Crispy golden outside with that creamy, savory filling inside and little bits of jamón throughout. Rich, but in a good way. Then we had the shrimp in garlic. This wasn't really a sauce situation, but more of the shrimp sitting in all that garlicky, flavorful oil. The shrimp were tender and the garlic-infused oil was basically begging to be eaten with bread. Which, obviously, we did. For dessert, my friend got the rice pudding and I got the flan. The rice pudding was VERY fall to me. Creamy, comforting, and full of cinnamon, with that warm spiced flavor that makes you want to eat it while wearing a sweater. My flan was perfect. Smooth, creamy, delicate, and not overly sweet. Just the right amount of caramel flavor. Honestly, the amount of food was kind of ridiculous for $35. Six dishes plus dessert, and everything felt fresh and flavorful. There was also a really nice variety, so it never felt like we were just eating six versions of the same thing. The restaurant itself is also PERFECT for pictures. Everything is so thoughtfully decorated, from the walls to all the little details around the space. My friend and I definitely took a bunch of pictures because we couldn't resist. The staff were incredibly kind and accommodating, and service was surprisingly fast. They were also generous with the bread, which I appreciated because, again, I needed that bread for the olive oil situation. And it's BYOB! So if you want alcohol with dinner, you can just bring whatever you actually want instead of being limited to a restaurant drink menu. Overall, this was such a lovely girls' night dinner. Fresh food, lots of flavor, a really nice variety, generous portions, beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff, and a price that felt very reasonable for how much food we got. 10/10 recommend. I honestly wasn't expecting to like it this much, but this was a really enjoyable meal from beginning to end. Definitely coming back.

The ambiance of Amada's is very "date night intimate". The lighting is fairly dim and the temperature of the restaurant is kept a bit warmer (the open marches concept probably also has something to do with that). It is tapas style so whole my boyfriend and I waited for the paella, we got a few plates to graze on. We started with a charcuterie with the jamon Serrano and manchego cheese. Im a big fan of truffle honey and you can't really go wrong with a simple charcuterie. We also got the setas and ensalada Verde. The mushrooms were well sautéed and the sauce they were served with was absolutely delicious. The ensalada verde was very much green heavy but thats exactly what we wanted. It was auite refreshing and the oil dressing wasn't overpowering the taste or making it feel greasy. The Paella we got was the squid ink rice - very flavorful. There was shrimp, clams, squid, and chucks of monk fish. It didn't feel like the seafood was skimped on. The only thing I personally felt was too much was the spicy mayo dallops. I felt like they made the dish feel heavier than necessary and overpowered the taste of the rice. The arroz con Leche was divine. Im biased because I love rice pudding but I think adding the puffed rice on touch was such a nice touch.

Sure, there has been the occasional hiccup here and there, but that's simply the reality of the service industry. What matters is that the overall experience has been consistently excellent, and over time I've come to know and appreciate many members of your team. My most recent visit, however, reminded me exactly why I keep coming back and fully reaffirmed my ongoing state of Barcelona Bliss. I recently made reservations for myself and a friend to celebrate his birthday. Wanting to guarantee a great evening, there was really only one choice: Barcelona. As an added bonus, I had attended UNCORKED and was fortunate enough to win an extra prize along with my free tapas button: a $100 credit toward a bottle of wine. From the moment we walked through the door, the evening was off to a great start. We were greeted by Elliot, my favorite person at Barcelona. I've always found him to be welcoming, attentive, personable, and genuinely funny. In fact, he was one of the original reasons we became regulars. When he first served us, he combined exceptional service with an engaging personality that made every visit feel special. As always, he was on top of everything and even made a point of wishing my friend a happy birthday. I could spend pages describing the food, service, and atmosphere, but I'll spare you my rambling. Suffice it to say, the evening was exceptional. Every member of the team seemed committed to making sure we had a memorable experience. Whether it was the thoughtful suggestion to combine our table with another when our growing collection of tapas and wine began to outgrow the available real estate, the delightful sommelier, a funny and attentive blonde woman whose name I unfortunately can't remember, who guided us to the perfect bottle, or our server, who never missed a beat and seemed to anticipate every need before we could ask, every member of the team contributed to making the evening truly special. The 2024 Gessamí was an inspired recommendation and undoubtedly one of the highlights of the night. Fragrant and beautifully balanced, with notes of jasmine, citrus, and ripe stone fruit, it was vibrant, refreshing, and paired wonderfully with our seemingly endless parade of tapas. The entire experience was lovely, fun, memorable, and genuinely impressive. While I unfortunately can't remember the names of either the sommelier or our server, that is in no way a reflection of their service. If anything, it simply highlights the shortcomings of my memory. Their attentiveness, professionalism, warmth, and contributions to the evening certainly did not go unnoticed and are greatly appreciated. This visit reminded me exactly why Barcelona has become such a favorite destination. Time and again, you deliver the perfect combination of outstanding food, exceptional wine, genuine hospitality, and an atmosphere that somehow feels both exciting and comfortable at the same time. By that I mean the food was fine but it's not something I would crave normally -- or if I did, I could go to the grocery store and make myself a little charcuterie board. Tío Pepe came to mind as an old-school favorite, and it drew in some folks we havent seen in a while for a chance to get haircuts and dress up a little for a memorable dinner. Reastaurante Tío Pepe is a nicely decorated taste of old Spain and Europe, a little north of downtown Baltimore. Look for the deep red awning over the descending stairs. There's an ample garage across the street. Around 6:30pm on a Saturday, we entered a lush hall and a dark comfortable bar area, with a coatcheck room just to the right. We arrived a little earlier than our group, so we found seats at the smallish full-bar with the imperial-red or ruby-red granite top. We had a great old $15 Catalonian Yzaguirre sweet red dulce vermouth rojo, caringly flavored since 1884 with distinct yet mild herbs reminiscent of the way the beverage is custom-infused in the old small bars across Spain. It was slighlty-sweet and richly complex. Quite refreshing, and they have even nicer vermouths on the menu, too. And we had an $10 rich amber dry white sherry, possibly a Gozales Byass which we noticed mentioned on wall décor, milder than the vermouth yet also fully flavored. We liked the authentic ambiance of white-painted stone walls and well-chosen items of décor from Spain. Our group of 20-or-so was split into two tables. And the eleven at our table also went through three $32 pitchers of tasty sweet sangria! So it was a lovely evening :-) Waiters in bright red jackets were very attentive. The food we chose from Pepe's extensive menu was good. We got $14.50 garlic caracoles, snails in butter, to pass around as an appetizer. A fun gently-flavored rather-chewy treat for the adventurous! Well, "caracoles". We had $10 Crema Escarial, a flavorful bisque with seafood and Brandy de Jerez. It had only the tiniest brunoise-size chunks of seafood in it, though, or whatever the Spain equivalent of "brunoise" is. We had a $13 Sopa de Pescado y Mariscos, a soup loaded with shrimp, mussels, clams, fish and lobster chunks, plus rice and some veggies. This was a much heartier choice. We had $17 Ostras Gratinadas, an oysters-Rockefeller of five large oysters loaded with spinach and cheese. They were very tasty and satisfying. We had a well-made $10 salad that included artichokes, beets, watercress and a sweet vinaigrette.  Many of us had different fish dishes, most around $36. They were fresh and tasty in a variety of flavorful sauces. The $36 sole, Filets de Linguado Alcázar, was perfect, with hollandaise made with bananas! That was a real treat! Ask your servers about off-menu apps and mains, too. We ordered fun twice-fried "puffed" potato wedges for everyone, hot, light, and just a little salty. We shared $14 Tortilla Sorpresa Fantasia Española, a baked Alaska, prepared table-side by red-jacketed staff. An exciting delicious spectacle! And a number of us split huge tasty $12 Brazo de Gitano a los Piñones, lush pine-nut whipped cream rolls.  A few weaker points: it was a busy night for the restaurant, and staff seemed a bit behind the curve. Food took a very long time to come out, around 3 hours from start to finish, and some of us had entrees half-eaten while others were still waiting. Several of us said their rice was only lukewarm. A couple of folks were unimpressed by the tenderness of their fish. For two of us, the total at dinnertime was $135 before the tip, and we had really modest dishes plus we paid for one of the pitchers of sangria. I imagine others were over $175 per person. The restaurant at large seemed happy, and we liked our food and drink. But for me, i expect everything to be quite delightful at those prices. I admit, most of the time we have previously come here over lunch, which has lower prices. It was fun evening, and our group seemed very happy, with several toasts and homages to our family of friends, and the hospitality of Tio Pepe :-)

Oloroso has slowly become one of our favorite spots in the city for Spanish tapas. The food is…read morealways terrific, the cocktails are excellent, and the whole place just has such a warm atmosphere. This visit we had a Gin Mare martini, a lovely Spanish garnacha, jamón y queso croquetas, scallop brochette, tajín de pollo, and an incredible traditional paella loaded with shellfish, chicken, and chorizo. We finished with churros and chocolate sauce for dessert, which were absolutely worth it. Such a fun, delicious evening, and we're already looking forward to going back.

Snagged a reservation on a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised with almost everything we…read moreordered. First, the vibe is great. Cozy and romantic and we were seated with a great view of the open kitchen, which compared to some other open kitchens, was humming away and directed by the head chef/owner. We first ordered several dishes from the tapas menu: Eggplant, Albondigas, Bacalao, and Roasted Beets. The eggplant was custardy on the outside and perfectly charred on the inside and its savory yet sweet profile would convert any eggplant hater. The beets were nicely steamed and sprinkled with a flavorful pistachio dukkah, though the coconut kefir swoosh on the bottom wasn't super flavorful. The albondigas were good, the pork/beef mix a bit overworked but the tomato sauce they were in was bright and perfectly spiced and made a perfect sauce to dip the abbbbsolutely DELICIOUS housemade sourdough slices this course came with. Last of these was the bacalao fritters, perfectly fried and topped with a citrus aioli. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Order these. Next was the raciones course, which is basically just tapas but just more meat-centric. We ordered the chicken leg with berbere and saffron couscous (came with housemade pita bread squares) and the Spanish sausage with roasted long hots. The chicken was our least favorite of the night. Overcooked and lacking much flavor, though the couscous made up for it with its saffron essence and sweet and soft dates and apricots. The pita bread, just like the sourdough was DELICIOUS. (Can you tell I like bread?) The sausage was salty and perfectly charred and another favorite of the night. They have a tapas/raciones tasting menu for $55 and the above cost two of us about $100 so we might try the tasting menu the next time though, we left full satisfied. Definitely will be back!
