    Puttanesca Pizza
    Amanda G.

I'm so happy I finally tried Citizen pie! This was a convenient location to meet up with friends over the weekend. There was ample street parking later on Saturday afternoon. It was a bit of a squeeze inside since the seating is limited. But, we also met some friendly people who helped us decide on our order. The staff were patient and welcoming as well. I tried the puttanesca while friends had the south collinwood and smoked pepperoni respectively. The pizza could be shared with a salad for light lunch but I was on my own with my anchovies. And I am really glad I stuck to my resolve on that one because it was delicious! I was doing the happy food dance in my chair- subtly of course but dancing. The south collinwood was delicious to sample and the pepperoni was also appreciated. Across the board- the crust was perfect. We topped the meal off with some Saturday afternoon shots and had a great visit all in all. Can't wait to go back.

    Calabrese order

Yikes - what an incredible disappointment. Check out the photos. The calabrese should have had roasted garlic, Calabrian pepper, olives, and tomatoes. All we got was 3 1/2 cherry tomatoes! Compare their website image of the mushroom pizza with the thing that was delivered - seven pieces of mushroom and ten snall pieces of red onion (for an extra $2!). Pizzas were small, dinner plate size. One person could easily eat one $25 pizza, and my teenager could probably consume 5 of these before getting full. I grew up in San Francisco, have eaten authentic pizza in many places, including Italia, and this is nothing like what you should receive. Really feel ripped off and will never return. Wood fired pizza should be not be bland bits of bread and cheese. Really, really disappointed.

My son just moved to Cleveland to attend CWRU. The first thing we always look for in a new city is great pizza. Because, yes, I am a total pizza snob. So far, I've tried 4 different spots: 2 in little Italy; Citizen Pie downtown, and now this Citizen Pie. The 2 in little Italy weren't my thing... crust was too thick although the sauce at one bakery was good and the toppings at a traditional Italian restaurant were good. Citizen Pie downtown has a completely different approach to pizza than this location, and it was really darn good, but that's another review. I ordered a Margherita to be delivered to my hotel by campus. It arrived quickly and still quite warm. I opened the box, and my heart leaped with joy... traditional neopolitan style pizza. Light airy crust with just the right amount of sauce and cheese. Looks great... let's taste it. The pizza was perfect. The crust was light and airy with just the right bite and tear. The sauce was fresh and tasty and applied generously but not in a way that overwhelmed the pizza. The cheese was also liberally applied but not overdone. And it was fresh!... not ugly little strands of greasy cheese gratings that ruin the flavor of so many commercial pizzas. You can tell they value their craft at Citizen Pie. This will definitely be my go-to when I am visiting my son. Two pieces filled me up and left me feeling good about my meal and ready to get out and walk the city. This is what I want from a good pizza... not that feeling like I overdid it that comes after eating bread-heavy thick-crusted pizzas with no air or lightness to them. Thank you, Citizen Pie, for giving me not one, but two, great places to satisfy my pizza cravings in Cleveland.

Thanks to Cleveland Pizza Week, I was able to visit Citizen Pie for the first time! For $9 (normally $14, which I think is way too expensive), I ordered the smoked pepperoni pizza to go. What really made this place unique was how FAST they make the pizza! In just 90 SECONDS, it is all ready to go! There *is* seating if you would like to enjoy your pizza there, but there is not much of it. Maybe enough for one of two families. I ended up eating my pizza at home. If you're a fatty like me, this is a personal pizza but as it is 10 inches, it is probably meant to be shared amongst two people haha! As you can see in the picture, there is a ton of cheese but not a great distribution of those cute, little pepperoni. Since these are cooked so fast, the bread is bubbly and slightly burnt but not charred in excess. I was hoping for more of a taste to the bread but it wasn't that flavorful, unfortunately. The cheese to sauce ratio was perfect. No notes there. Overall, I'm glad I got to try their pizza at a discount. I am never ever in that area of town and was surprised at how much there is to do in those couple of blocks! Next time I stop by, I'll probably get a more unique pizza (the Calabrese option looks baller!) and hope for a better distribution of toppings.

Citizen Pie offered a friendly, fast, tasty treat in the Waterloo Art District. I walked in on a whim as I thought I had heard of them before, and their sign spoke to me. Maybe just in my head, but it said, "Hey, John, c'mon in." To me, part of the experience of a good pizza place is how they treat the customers and how their pie reflects their store. All pies are a thin crust (while not my favorite, is something I love for a lighter bite), and each pie is quite greasy. This may not suit many people but I find this to be more homey or traditional. My only complaint would be the pies are small for the price, but rounding this up is their taste; excellent. Growing up in New Jersey, I had the best of Philly and New York-style pizzas around me, so it takes something special to get me happy about a pizza in Ohio, and this was it.

Found this place while looking for good pizza places from the one bite app. We don't often try pizza that's not New york style, but the whole family really liked this place. The pizza was fluffy and crunchy at the same time, which always makes pizza good, unless it's thin crust. Th3 pepperonis were awesome and were a little spicy. The kids always get cheese, and we had no complaints about that. If we ever get back to Cleveland, we will be earing here again. Give it a try.

Coming into the store there was a cute counter by the window if you did decide to sit inside and eat. We came all the way from Kent for the pizza and wanted to try a slice before we left for home so my boyfriend ate a slice in the parking lot really quick. An employee (possibly the owner) came out with napkins and offered us to sit inside. We declined as we had to leave but the man graciously went inside and brought us out cold water bottles for our drive home! It was such a thoughtful gesture. Now onto the pizza. It was delicious! We ordered a regular pepperoni pizza and the white Neapolitan style pizza. It wouldn't let me add pineapple to my pizza online, which was fine because it didn't need it, the pizza was so good! My boyfriend loved his pepperoni pizza and I also enjoyed my Neapolitan style white pizza. It had a great garlicky flavor and was crispy on the crust. Will definitely be back to try the margarita pizza next! So if you're looking for a great pizza with hospitality I recommend coming to Joe De's!

My daughter said "Dad, this area is heavily populated with people from Eastern Bloc countries," to which I responded "If they like their pizza sweet, so be it. But I certainly don't." You watch happy patrons pile out with slices as large as your head, you smell the delicious grease; you can practically taste your pie already. Stepping inside, this religious experience continues when, right as you ready yourself to order, you watch the pizza barista pull a hot, fresh pie directly from the oven. You can see instantly deduce the pizza is perfectly cooked--the cheese is melted evenly, the smell of the tomato sauce lingers in the air, the crust has just the right bend--you look the cashier in the eye and declare that a slice of that fresh-out-of-the-oven pizza pie is exactly what you want. Now imagine the horror as the cashier takes that fresh slice of pizza, perfect as Michelangelo's David, and PUTS IT BACK IN THE OVEN. Horrified, you can do nothing but watch as your already amazing slice of pizza is burnt to a crisp. Served to you five minutes later, your wonderfully floppy New York slice now has the consistency of a saltine cracker. It has been charred to the point of burying the cheese and sauce--replaced by the flavor of charcoal. You might think this is an indulgent (and even pretentious) way to simply say "the pizza was overcooked," but I believe understanding the promise of this product is essential to understanding the pain of its disappointment. Lil Ronnie's is the type of place that has all of the potential to become a legitimate contender for the best pizza in town--it does so much right with its atmosphere and location, and my nose and sight told me the potential exists within that original version of the slice! The food I ordered the anchovy margherita pizza and it was a solid 9.5/10. Easily one of the closest pizzas I've had in the U.S. to the authentic Roman-style pizzas I remember. The only minor criticism -- and honestly not really their fault -- was that the anchovies tasted slightly canned, giving a bit more fishiness than the fresh anchovies commonly used in Italy. The service One of the owners, Annie, felt like the Italian nonna welcoming you into her home. Warm, thoughtful, conversational and constantly making sure everyone was taken care of. That hospitality elevated the entire experience. The atmosphere The restaurant is smaller and lively, so it can get pretty loud, especially on a Saturday night. The wait My friend and I arrived around 6:30 PM on a Saturday and the wait was about an hour and a half -- which is wild for a pizza place, but also says everything about how popular it is. Worth it? If you're craving authentic Italian pizza, absolutely. Overall The food alone makes the noise and wait worthwhile, and the hospitality makes you want to come back.
