Smokin Whirl Pizza
Pam Pam G.

Though both the establishment and the pizza look unassuming and questionably appetizing, the pizza was surprisingly tasty! Our pizza had fresh toppings and a generous serving of cheese. The crust was buttery and crispy. The three of us killed our pizza within minutes! Pizza Whirl is a good spot to grab a quick, affordable bite.

We had the best experience here for my son's birthday party. They were so accommodating and had everything ready for the kids to make their own pizzas. The wood-fired oven cooks them fast, so the kids didn't have to wait long, and they loved every minute of it. The staff went above and beyond for us, and the prices are very reasonable. Everyone enjoyed the pizzas, and most importantly, the kids had a blast. Highly recommend!

Ordered a Margherita pizza through Doordash. We loved it! Tasty sweet sauce, lots of fresh basil and cheese. Yummy crust. Give them a try!

Cheesy Bread and a margherita signature pie Very greasy but still tasty!

This is a good stop for a quick late night bite or something in your belly after a bit of bar hopping on 25th street! I'd say the best things about this place are the ambiance, late hours and low prices. The food is just ok! It's a little small but there's usually open seating and quick service from friendly staff. The place also has cozy, laid back vibes to enjoy your pizza with! The last I came I shared cheesy bread with a friend which was HUGE for the price! It's the same size as the pies!! I was shooketh. The taste was satisfying enough for a late night snack but there was a looot of grease on the thing. I soaked two napkins with each stick which is a little much for my taste but if you're into that more power to you! Another friend of mine had a margherita signature pie and said it was a little lacking but still good. Overall I wouldn't be opposed to coming here again, but I'd probably try something new first. 3/5 for the food but +1 for vibes and pricing.

Garlic knots

Came here for takeout during both COVID-19 and Cleveland Pizza Week. We ordered a sampling of dishes, to try things other than their pizza...garlic knots, wings, and a margherita pie. The pick-up process was easy and we were quickly on our way home with the goods. On to the food reviews! The margherita pie was just okay; the crust was chewy, cheese was decent but the sauce was rather bland making for a less-than-memorable bite. The garlic knots were really garlic bread twists served with a small cup of marinara sauce. I would have like to see a couple of things here. First, more garlic sauce! These twists were rather dry, so a bath in some oily sauce would have helped matters. Second, the marinara cup was cold! I guess we could have heated it up ourselves when we arrived home, but this came straight from a fridge into our to-go container and the already lukewarm knots did not take well to the chilled sauce. Lastly, the wings. Their wings are fried, and some of them were plump and huge! I like their texture and crunch of these wings, but the garlic parmesan seasoning was also rather bland. I added some of my own hot sauce just to give it something. Overall each dish was average at best, missing any kind of "special sauce / seasoning" to give the food a pop. Not sure it is worth a return visit for us, I am sorry to say.

Solid local pizza joint! We enjoyed the BBQ chicken pizza. Not our top pizza location, but we will go back once in a while.

Very good pizza! We especially loved the cheesy bread and Alfredo pizza. One of the few places we ate at during our short stay in Ohio City. Definitely happy we tried Pizza Whirl out!

Worst pizza ever. The margarita pizza had the tiniest pieces of basil, maybe eight , and there were spots missing sauce.

The pizza was pretty good. The prices were decent. The wait was not long and I was happy I could take into the bowling bar down the street.

My son and I were in town for a concert and walked around. He's a pizza guy and we walked in for the 2 slices and drink for $12 special. It's walkup and order service and they brought it out, hot and ready in just a few minutes. It's a clean, modern environment with plenty of seating. He got a traditional crust margherita pizza while I opted for the Detroit style pepperoni. Both were outstanding. He loved the sweetness of the sauce and the cheese blend. My Detroit style was a little crispier than I like, but it didn't ruin the flavor at all. The small pepperonis curled up and kept that grease right inside (yesss!). New York inspired? In Ohio? Absol-freaking-lutely!

You can tell the ingredients are top notch and that a lot of care is put into it. I highly recommend it. Now the subjective part: this isn't the NY pizza I was looking forward to. It's this newer version that is cooked at higher temps. I want that traditional style where the crust tastes like freshly baked bread and the cheese is over the sauce. What Portnoy calls a "football" pizza. That's what I grew up with, and pretty much no one offers it. And those that do, it's a cheap imitation. So, Charlie, I'm begging you, bring us that classic style. You know exactly the flavor profile I'm talking about.

First visit, I got the New Haven pie with sausage -- which they source directly from a local butcher, and you can taste the difference. We also got to talk with one of the owners for a while. Super personable, and the customer service matches. You can tell it's a long-running family business. I wanted to go back once more before writing this, just to be sure the first time wasn't a fluke. It wasn't. Second visit was the margherita as-is plus a New Haven pie with beef pepperoni. Both exceptional. The sauce is what really sets it off. Growing up in the South, I had no idea what good pizza was until I moved to CT. Leaving that behind was the thing I expected to miss most about Connecticut. Glad I don't have to -- they've got a regular now.

When I arrived, the staff greeted me and seemed genuinely excited to sell their pizza and cookies. The owner was front and center and you could feel his passion for what he was doing. I got a chocolate cookie to go because they had free samples and I couldn't resist. I requested a Piggy Bird, a Chicken Club, and a Heartburner. When I got home, the pizzas smelled amazing and were still hot. My son snatched the cookie immediately. I tried all three pies and they were all delicious. The pickles and white sauce really made the chicken club unique and tasty. The owner describes it as, "the pizza I eat when I'm not in the mood for pizza". He couldn't be more right. The Piggy Bird is always incredible. It's just a great tasting pizza and was our favorite of the three. My son really likes pepperoni, so we got him the Heartburner and it was very very good. The taste and quality of the pizza is top notch. We'll be back for more, especially from the secret menu. Glad this place is somewhat close to home.

When I saw the ratings, I decided to give it a try while I was in Cleveland. On the day I went, one of my closest friends who is from Cleveland happened to be in the area at the same time I was, so we decided to try Il Rione together before having Mitchell's Homemade Ice Cream afterward. Parking was a bit tricky, as we were unable to park right in front of the restaurant, but fortunately we found a spot reasonably close, so we did not have to walk too far. When we first walked in, the first thing I noticed was the atmosphere. Not only did the restaurant smell amazing from the baking pizzas, but it was also tastefully decorated for Christmastime and cozy. We were seated immediately, and our server was attentive and helpful, making us feel welcome and even offering suggestions on their best-selling pizzas. I ended up ordering the sausage pizza, and while the pizza as a whole was outstanding, the sauce was the best I have ever had. Whatever their sauce recipe is, it was unbelievable, and it will be difficult to top that particular sauce. My friend enjoyed his pizza as well, saying it was one of the best pizzas he had ever tasted. Il Rione is one of the best pizzas I have ever had. We opted for the arugula salad and rione salad for the table and the salads were honestly delicious. For pizza, we ordered the larger size sausage pie (red sauce, mozzarella, roasted peppers, sautéed onions, garlic and parmesan). Thin crust with a good bite that holds its integrity pretty decently. Overall, this os probably one of the better pizzas in Cleveland.
