Tasty! We got I pepperoni pie, a meatball sub, 6 wings Pie was just fine Meatball sub really needs a stronger roll. Turned to mush like wonder-bread. Maybe we'll have it toasted next time, but it was tasty enough. Definite filler in recipe but thats super normal any more. Partner says wings were good and they did cook them well-done Would give 4.5 - but an extra half star seems more reasonable that low-balling Also they do their own delivery!!!! HOORAY! read more

Just moved to this area but have been in Little Italy and CLE Heights for the past 2 years, trying to find a decent close pizza spot. Live right next door so thought I'd finally try'em out. Service was fine and pizza was made fast, within 15 minutes! The pizza itself is just ok, glad I asked for well done, next time I may ask for extra well done. I would say this place is mediocre. The food arrived hot and they got the order correct, but everything was bland. The pizza had a decent amount of toppings on it, but just kind there. The penne was basically hot substance. It didn't have much of a taste and was lacking any sort of seasoning. Not much sauce and what was there was very underwhelming. We also got the hot sticks, which again, no flavor. I actually ate something else out of the fridge because I thought my taste buds were broken or something. We got a fair amount of food for the money, but nobody in the house was very satisfied. We wanted to try something new, but unfortunately won't be going back. read more

I've been getting take out or delivery from Captain Tony's for close to 5 years. Its one of the closest lunch spots to my office in Shaker Square. The food is pretty typical fast Italian food and subs. Its solid and reliable, but nothing to write home about. Their customer service, however, is a disappointment. Because I've been ordering food from there for so long, you'd think they'd give a crap when I didn't receive an item that I order over and over twice within one week. I called to complain that an item was missing from from my multi-item order, and they actually denied that I ordered it and were rude to me. I had another worker in my office hear me place the order, so I actually have proof that it was initially ordered. Hope you don't mind losing me and my office's $1500+ a year worth of business, Captain Tony's! Pizza Bogo, Marottas, and Dewey's are nearby if you want kinder and better tasting pizza, and if you want subs in this area, go to Dave's Cosmic on Coventry, Subway in Shaker Square, or get a sandwich from Dewey's Coffee also in Shaker Square. I really like Captain Tony's because the owners are great, it's an amazing neighborhood hangout in Shaker Square, and their deep dish pizza is delicious. My first order of a deep dish pizza was amazing because the meat was at least 2" thick, no joke. Now, some of my favorite pizzas are on the secret menu, including kimchi pizza. :) I think it's some of the best pizza I've had in Cleveland! read more

About six months ago I ordered Captain Tony's for an office function. The food was an hour late. The owner (Rose) didn't charge us because there were so many aggravations. Thought I would give them a second chance today. I guess it was a little better. I needed the food for a 12:00 meeting. The cold pizzas arrived at 12:45. I'm noting this on yelp for those that need to order food for work. This company is not reliable. There are plenty of other restaurants to choose from. Hot sticks (are not sticks) but still good. Deep dish isn't really a true deep dish pizza but good none the less. Owner was funny and friendly. Staff is friendly as well. I give 4 out of 5 because the menu is miss leading but the food is still good. read more

Pizza is expensive for what you get. The downtown location is so much better in terms of food quality and specials. They have decreased the number of wing dings from 6 to 5, of course there was not a decrease in the price. I will not be returning to this location. read more

The last time I had pizza @ Tony's was like 30 years ago. Back then it was really quite real. This time however I was amazed @ what it is now. We ordered the Small Primavera which sounded really interesting however when it came, which was quite quick, the sauce was like ketchup & I had a feeling that the cheese was not real?? The employees were rather cold & the interior of the place looked 3rd. world to say the least! One upside was that the bread portion was OK. On a side note, my Japanese mate was scared out of her wits by some people hanging around outside the place. Another thing was, that it was freezing inside the awful place so we opted to sit outside but the chairs were all locked up but when I went in to ask if we could have 2 chairs, we were grudgingly given the chairs. Old school Captain Tony's lover....not so much today. Used to hit Captain Tony's on Coventry in Cleveland Heights 2-3 times a week back in the day. Was wicked excited to see that they opened a place right up the road from me. Sad, sad, SAD day! they won't make a cheeseless pizza for me?!?!? What's up with that? I was told it is now a franchise and a different owner, therefore no cheeseless pizza. BoooHoooo! Ended up ordering from Papa John's, they didn't even bat an eye at a cheeseless pizza order. My family loves Captain Tonys pizza. Always ready and hot when I pick it up. We like the fact that are so many choices since I am generally buying for 6 to 8 people. We like the potato pizza for a change and they have deep dish Chicago style also. I generally ask them to cook a little longer than normal so the crust is cooked through. Their wings are good also. The owner experiments with the sauces to create a nice mix. The have an extensive menu for those that don't want Pizza. Their prices are fair considering what the competition charges. It's a family run business and I always enjoy talking with the owner and his wife, who always greet me by name, as do others that work there. They have parking right outside the door in Shaker Square which makes it easy to get. Try it. If something isn't right, they will make it right! read more

Worst slop I have ever eaten. I have never had pizza this bad. Even the cheese tasted stale.

Captain Tony's is solid. 9/10 times I get the same thing. Chicken Parmesan sandwich and a mini side salad. This comes out to $7.50. Sure the "salad" is about all iceburg lettuce and two small slices of tomato, a few strands of onions and some bland cheese grattings, but the lettuce keeps you regular, that's the point. Anyways, I always have my chicken parm craving satisfied, and for $5.50 out the door, the price is a steal, so the value is great. I'm also a fan of the bbq chicken sandwhich, it's got a few onions, has a delicious bbq sauce, and is appropriately messy. The bread they make their sandwiches on is also better than poor quality and is pleasantly soft. This way you don't have to worry about destroying the back of your gums when you take a monster bite, and you will want to when the smell hits your olfactory sensors. The pizza is good too. I had a small with artichoke hearts and something else for like $10, but it was enough food for two days. There's enough sauce to make the sauce to cheese to dough proportions well within the reasonable ratios. I also like that I can call ahead, make my order, and it's usually ready in 15-20 minutes. They asian couple has a tendency to underestimate on the phone, but so does everyone. They even gave me a free coke on christmas eve lunch. The min on a credit card is like $8.00 You should check this place out, you get a good return for the dollars you spend. 10/27/2011 edit: My new favorite are the wings. I can't get enough of the terriyaki flavored wings for 8.70ish. They are not fried, and half are surprisingly large, half are meh size, but I can honestly say that not a week goes by I don't order them. read more

Great pizza, went in to try something new. When I walked in two police officers were sitting in the cozy seating area enjoying a pie. To me this said, "yeah this is good food" lol. As the pizza place around the corner from me, I go here often, and can say wholeheartedly that if you want basic, cheesy, American pizza, you cannot go wrong. They are timely, friendly, and serve up good pie. They even have no problem accommodating weird requests: having a vegan day and want no cheese--just on half?--no problem! Craving veggies and want a side of broccoli that is, of course, not on the menu as such? You got it! Live a block away and decide to walk over with your dog? She can have a treat, too. I remember back in the day, this place had the best pizza! There were comfy booths in the window to chill and eat your pizza in and the atmosphere had that great Shaker Square feel. Since Zesty's on Buckeye closed (had the best, greasy, cheesy, yummi pizza of ALL time...PLEASE COME BACK), I came home to CLE+ to get a pizza and all I could think of was devouring a Captain T pizza. Walked in and my mouth dropped open and nose immediately turned up! The place looks like S#@!; it was dirty, there were a handful of gross tables stashed in a corner that looked liked they were salvaged from someone's garbage and the "new" management (not sure how long they have owned it) was NOT what I expected! The lady lazily asked what I wanted and I think the look on my face said it all, NOT A DAMN THING. I just turned around and left out. Has so gone down the drain! read more

I cannot EXPRESS enough how stupid and snobby I have been for years or ELSE I would have discovered CAPTAIN TONY'S awesome pizza sooner!!!! I have always dismissed PIZZA counters and PIZZA chains as sub-par! STOOOOPID! I wandered into CAPTAIN TONY'S last night and I was immediately greeted by a very busy yet entirely charming woman managing the counter... I was quickly helped in my decision and I landed on a large THAI Pizza and cheesy garlic bread. NOT even 10 minutes later, I was holding my pizza and a fresh, hot GARLIC Chicken wing that another charming man from the kitchen insisted I give a try... IT was fantastic, and I do not even like Buffalo style wings!!!! I walked across Shaker Square to my buds at Collective Upcycle, where within seconds we were all RAVING about this pizza AND the fresh cheesy garlic bread. The THAI Pizza is dressed up with an authentic light asian peanut sauce sporting layers of lemongrass and spices yet not overpowering at all. The whole pizza was smothered in FRESHLY roasted chicken breast, red peppers, green peppers, onion and fresh mozzarella... It was really beautiful. The crust was tender and thinner but not paper thin and totally delicious. The cheesy garlic bread was so good that I could have curled up in a ball and slept in it's box. We were all just loving Captain Tony's and our LARGE pizza was more than enough for 4 of us.... Thank you CAPTAIN TONY's... I cannot wait to get back to Shaker Square!!! read more

Ranch pizza. Yup, ranch sauce switched out for red sauce. They usually add chicken and bacon, but I get mine with onions and spinach instead. Sounds horrible, but it is the best.
