We visited Danny Boy's in Rocky River this past Thursday for a late lunch with my kids. It wasn't busy at all, two other tables were occupied. It had been a few years since we'd been to this location--once the Broadview Heights location opened, that's usually where we go because it's closer to home. We started with the breadsticks and marinara, which were flavorful, but unfortunately both the breadsticks and the sauce were cold. We then ordered the deep-dish pizza with sausage. Sadly, it wasn't what we remembered or expected. While the dough itself was decent, it didn't resemble the Chicago style deep dish we've had here in the past. Instead of a deep pan crust with layers of cheese and a sausage patty, it felt more like a basic sausage pizza with a thicker crust--similar in texture to the breadsticks--with sausage balls on top. The sausage tasted very processed, which was disappointing. The last time we visited this location, the Chicago style deep dish was completely different and much better. It's possible the menu or recipe has changed without us realizing, but we specifically came here because of how much we remembered enjoying that pizza, the small family-style restaurant and the decoration for Christmas. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and we were really looking forward to reliving that experience, so it was disappointing to leave feeling let down. Perhaps the menus are different per location. We will continue to visit the Broadview Heights location for the Chicago style deep dish pizza that we love and enjoy so much. read more

Favorite pizza of some local family members so I visited twice -- once to pick up and once to eat in solo. Nothing fancy or super special...but lovely pizza joint meal. I particularly enjoyed their "woogies" (kind of like a calzone). When I ate in, had their special calzone -- which wasn't traditional calzone in my experience, but was interesting (it had a middle eastern spice) and huge (about the size of half of a medium pizza. I have been eating here since w. 130 days. So sad to see the quality go downhill so quickly. I got my usual chicken parm. Couldn't figure out what the chicken was. Who ever changed the original chicken parm should be fired. Completely dried out old over fried chicken with sauce so so thick and over cooked it's not edible. Seems like old Super Bowl chicken used to make chicken parm. Sad. It was the best for decades. Oh yeah even the lowly cheese pizza is now ruined with garbage on top in circles that somebody copied from another pizza place. Yours was good now it's a copy of a pizza I didn't care for which is why I'm at your restaurant and not tremont. If this is the 3rd generation, running things, This makes sense, they usually ruin it. if it's been sold I get it. If you thought you needed a change, you didn't. Girl I spoke to said things were changed and she was professional and tried to be accommodating about the changes. Entire order $141 not including tip. We won't be back. HAPPY CLEVELAND PIZZA WEEK!! I decided for my first pizza of the week, I would try the place i've been dying to go to for a while...and it did NOT disappoint!!! Once I called in, the pizza was ready in about 20mins! And when I arrived it was nice, warm, and ready to be ate!! Plus the staff was so welcoming and attentive! The pizza they have on special for Cleveland Pizza Week is the Original Clevelander! This pizza is a beautiful masterpiece of garlic, basil, a five cheese blend, & DOUBLE (yay!!) pepperoni!!! all on a perfectly crusted thin crust.... topped ~ Chicago style ~ with pizza sauce and parmesan cheese (just like it says!!!) GREAT PIE this classic location is great. The pizza is right up there the best in town. I've never had a baddie in lake road. Last two pies were the Chicago with the sausage patty. So good, Chicago style, it's great bc u can pick it up. Not a big mess. It's great pizza here plain & simple. On the flip side it absolutely crawls with children. It's not even pie for kids. This is sophisticated pizza if u will. I think it's the parents love the pizza & they bring the kids bc what else u gonna do. They made their bed now they gotta sleep in it. Best pizza on the west side. The atmosphere is quiet and casual with nice tall wooden booths. The pizza is fantastic - the crust actually tastes like real bread; in a lot of other pizza places the crust tastes like a pancake. The wine is very reasonable - no huge mark-up. Best part is there's a TRENDY restaurant right next door that draws off all the idiot millennials, so you can have a meal without the glow of iphones all around you. Families come here for pizza, so there are nice high-chairs available. And when the toddlers and babies start tucking into the pizza they are GOOD AS GOLD. We've been going to Danny Boys for twenty years and we have never encountered a brat there. It's our favorite place to go for pizza night. read more

Been going to Danny Boy's Rocky River for decades -- always thought it was best pizza in town. Recent trip was huge disappointment -- almost inedible, with cardboard crust and pasty tasteless sauce. I called the next day open thinking maybe there was a one-time kitchen problem that day. Was told they were very busy, but manager would call me next day. Never heard from anyone. I have eaten here a handful of times and every time the pizza has been pretty good. Salad too. I wish I could tell you about other things on the menu but honestly I've ordered pizza every time. I like the pizza I've had a handful of different kinds and all have been good. Some nice and unique options. Staff is okay. I've had good wait staff and just meh wait staff here. So that might be a crap shoot. In terms of value for the money it's not bad. About average for the area. Worth a try or take out for your own opinion. read more

Stop #3 of 4 during "Cleveland Pizza Week" and this proved to be the clear highlight. Arrived a little after 4pm, and there was plenty parking on the side of this location. A short walk inside, and we were greeted immediately and told we could sit anywhere. Once settled in, we ordered the pizza week special, "The Original Clevelander" ($8). Reading the description, this is a best of both worlds with NYC and Chicago style pizzas. This wasn't just the best pizza I had during pizza week, it was one of the best I've ever had. A great sauce mixed with a perfectly cooked crust was noticeable right away. I usually ask for my pies well done, but it wouldn't have been necessary for this as it had the perfect amount of crunch. The pizza was so good, I took one home to go with me. Great service as well made this a wonderful experience. Looking forward to returning so I can try some of the other menu items. read more

Tried this place for the first time and I will definitely be back. The atmosphere is pretty cool. It's like stepping into a "pizza joint" in New York City. The server was so friendly! I had the rib rub jojos. Delicious. We tried the garlic knots and bread. Good! The marinara sauce (I could eat a whole cup of it alone). I had the Italian Magherita pizza (solo size). Yum yum yum! WOW! Is almost all I have to say about that...We landed in Cleveland and this was the first place we ate at-it was highly recommended from local friends. The food, the service and restaurant goers were awesome! Fast, and high quality ingredients were used. The atmosphere is fun with plenty to see on the restaurant walls and even games (chess, checkers) to play on while you wait-but there was absolutely no wait at lunchtime. Set in beautiful Rocky River, Ohio. We took a stroll afterwards and found a beautiful park nearby located right along Lake Erie. First time for us and it looks like we should have ordered pizza. I ordered a "Last Call" Burger (medium rare) - grilled burger, cheddar cheese (five blend cheese substitute), lettuce & tomato. Comes with kettle chips and pickles. My husband ordered the Buffalo Wing Platter and we had a side of zucchini frites. Actually, the frites were the best thing we had. My burger was not only NOT medium rare, it was burnt around the edges. I had to cut the edges off to be able to eat it. They did not substitute the cheese like I asked and there were no chips or pickles at all. The wings were slimey and under cooked and my husband did not like the sauce. He ate a few and threw the rest out. All this plus we had to wait 20 minutes after the time they said to pick up. And my husband had to ask three times when the order was going to be ready. I loved the Italian, Frank Sinatra, Rat Pack vibe going on here. The decorations were appealing and I loved the Christmas lights. It was also a very comfortable temperature. We grabbed a table and poured over the menu. I wanted to try everything, but I kept it simple... Traditional pepperoni pizza. I also wanted a salad- back in the day, a salad was how I judged a restaurant. The house salad- nothing fancy to most people. But, the greens were fresh and, well, green! There was plenty of cheese and toppings. I ordered the house Italian dressing which was so good. I love the breadstick knot that came with my salad. Craving satisfied. Then the pizza came. It was so good. I wouldn't exactly call it NY style (I like mine flat, crispy, and big enough to fold) but it was really good. Flavorful, bold sauce on top of a crispy chewy crust. Dan really liked his Bing's Buffalo Chicken Melt Woogie platter. It took a minute to figure out what a Woogie is, but it's basically like a calzone sandwich. The dining room is tiny and fills quickly, but it's always worth the wait. I like that they have tables with Checkers, Chess, and Scrabble to play while you wait. I love the Italian Pierogis and the Polish Pierogies. The pierogis are always delicious with plenty of meat, onions, and peppers on top. The roll that comes on the side is so tasty. The actual bread is full of flavor. It isn't just the butter and seasoning that makes it great. The Double Crust Gangster Zone is a delicious combination of the flavorful bread, meats, and tasty marinara for dipping. First time customer. Just got the Chicago style pizza delivered. As a fan of classic Chicago pizza, I am very underwhelmed with this local version. The sauce seemed colder than the rest of the pie, and created a sort of watery texture. I don't think this was fresh baked. Maybe we got a forgotten order delivered, but for the price I would say pass. The wings and caesar salad were very delicious, but I don't think I will try them again as a pizza option. read more
