Great food. Good prices. Amazing salads. My favorite is the chef salad. Dressing is also very good. Sandwiches are very robust and tasty.

I used to really like this place, but the last few times I've ordered here, it just seems to be going downhill. My order was handled by a young girl who seemed much more interested in flirting with the cook than making sure my sandwich was done correctly. I don't know what this char is, but it's not usually on their house sub. Or at least, it didn't used to be. No pepperoni bread today either. Since the owner of Marc's bought this restaurant, I believe the quality has gone down. The original owners prided themselves with the best quality of food and customer service. I have noticed the sandwiches that I have ordered have much less ingredients especially meat. I have noticed cleanliness of the prep area being less cared for. I wish they never sold to Marc's. Before Marc's bought D'Italia I would have given them a 6 on a scale of 1-5. I don't know how many of their Italian sausage subs I've had, many, one of my favorites. Use to have an amazing amount of sausage cooked just right smothered in red sauce, peppers and onions and covered in cheese. The last two sausage subs I bought were very disappointing, despite paying extra for sauce and cheese (there has always been a small extra charge for sauce and cheese but it was well worth it before) today it looked like they dabbed a tablespoon or two on the bread, looked like two red dots on each half and almost no peppers and onions. Some cheese but no where close to before. I'm just so disappointed in the change and sorry but that was my motivation to leave my first review of any kind. Since Marc's bought them they have gone down hill and are no longer special. read more

This place is a hidden treasure. I initially wanted to get the meatball sub but saw the lasagna short video on there website and just had to try it. Well it was absolutely delicious and amazing. Thin layers pasta, beef, cheese and sauce just melts in your mouth (sauce is awesome). I had this once in theater district NYC and had less than half the portion and paid much more. Omg this was the best lasagna I've ever eaten! My brother was telling me about an amazing Italian takeout spot with $9, delicious lasagna. And a huge portion at that. He brought me some after he left work today and first of all, I can't believe that giant portion was only $9 lol. The lasagna is amazing. Absolutely superb! I'm married to an Italian so I lost the taste for Ragu long ago. This is a tiny place, maybe two tables, and most come in for take-out. The lunch hour gets busy. They make great sandwiches and their Sicilian pizza rivals New York. Sauce is great and the dough is light and airy yet crispy. We got a slice of Sicilian, a meatball sub and a sausage and pepper sub. All were excellent. We took a lot home because the portions are generous. We also took away their eggplant roll-ups (rivals mine) which we made the next night at home. If you're in the area, and heck, even if you're not, just GO! You will not be sorry. read more

Love this place. My standard order is the d'italia sub, the best Italian sub in town. Hand crafted, great bread & all the meats. The peppers & oil finish the job and the portion is just right. If u get it on special u get chips & a drink with it. Mostly carry out here but they do have a couple tables if u want to park it. Nice people too. The Italian beef is also fantastic & genuine Chicago style. But it comes with mozzarella and it's great. The giardiniera is key ingredient gives it a little snap. Because of the au jus I usually eat in when I polish off this fine sandwich but they will put it in a little go shot cup for u. I also buy a loaf of their pepperoni bread. Really enjoy this place & they do a good business. If u haven't tried the sandwiches here u are missing out. 5 stars. I'm starving now just thinking about it. read more

Pizza. Get the pizza. It is really the hidden gem of the place. Not your typical crust (sicilian style). Thick, but light and airy. Crispy bottom but golden brown, not burnt. Excellent pizza sauce. Even better, they hooked me up with their killer meatballs, of which are insanely delicious on their own (had them multiple times a la carte), on top of the pepperoni which took it to a whole new level. Still as good as it ever was. Not every five star review place survives the test of time. Some morph and lose focus from their roots. Others get bored and just stop paying attention to details. Still others cheapen their product to make more money. D'Italia is still on the top. It is what it is. An Italian lunch, take away and catering food place. Actually surprised my first 5 start review was way back from 2013. Been an on and off regular ever since. My current tip: Try the special for lunch. Can you say value meal? My wife found this place to try while we were traveling from the U.P. Of Michigan to New York as we like to try new spots and something different. I understand there is new ownership. We got there at a busy time and my only "suggestion " would be a little better ordering process or organization. We had the daily special which was the D Italia sammich warm and some of their antipasto Salad. The sandwich was simple with quality ingredients, fresh and freakin Delicious!!! The antipasto salad was the bomb although I would like a little smaller pieces of cheese and meat in it, it was amazing and could be a meal in itself !!! Their special including chips and a beverage is a damn great deal and if I lived near by I would go nowhere else !!! We ate in the car and saved our 2nd sammich for dinner on the road. Just about ready to pull out of the parking lot and my wife says wait, I gotta go get a piece of their cheesecake. Came back 10 minutes later with cheesecake, limoncello cake, assortment of cookies and a cannoli for me. Was it good??? Let's just say say as good as it all was, I'm glad I don't live near by as I would be as big as a house!!! We travel through the area quite often and now we have another goto besides Slyman's deli in Cleveland. Keep up the good work , keep the great daily specials and don't skimp on the quality!!! I've ordered 1000s of dollars worth of food since they opened originally. Many meals and also mulitple times catering. I've noticed since the new owners have taken over its not the same from the family that kept quality and service important. I think quality has gone down on pizza and handful of other popular items. Still the main products I got were fairly good and convenient, so I kept going from time to time. Last week, I think I am done. My chicken cutlet sandwich was tough like it had been reheated a few times(not saying that was exacty true) but it was tough. Also, I almost had to make sure I stopped one of the workers from finishing my sandwich as it was being prepared due to I saw him first wipe his nose then cough into his gloves. The older male employee then walked over to his drink in the cooler grabbed that and walked back to the food prep area grabbing deli meat and cheese off the cutting boards placing it in his mouth. He coughed again and stood there waiting. The gloves were never changed!!! He never touched my sandwich, but I was ready to say something in disgust as I was very close to canceling my order. Then i watched the cashier also eat cheese or food from the prep area. I couldn't believe it . I am thinking someone is going to get sick. This is disgusting watching this. My food showed up and I left. It was again cold and tough. Nothing like a authentic italian deli and how it used to be. I wanted to throw it away. I usually don't write reviews but management needs to know this. I know this wasn't a bad day. You either have strict polices with food or you don't. I stopped in tonight after meaning to visit D'Italia for quite some time. I had high hopes after reading the reviews that I would find amazing Italian beef that rivaled Chicago's Portillo's. When I arrived, there was plenty of parking spaces and the store had 3 people in line ahead of me. I ordered my italian beef sandwich without peppers, but with cheese. I also grabbed a slice of tiramisu from the refrigerator before checking out. The sandwich only took a few minutes to wait and they packaged it and the au jus tightly to go. The italian beef was good, but I think I just had too high of hopes and was craving something just like Portillo's. Unfortunately, while the sandwich was good, it just wasn't quite a substitute for my Portillo's craving. The beef itself was good. It tasted like it melted in your mouth. However, it lacked a bit of seasoning that I would typically equate with italian beef and felt more like a french dip. That being said, it still tasted really good and I'll definitely go back for it, but a little seasoning could have gone a long way. I'm also used to a dipped italian beef where the sandwich is soaked in au jus, but the tiny cup of au jus wasn't really sufficient to be used in that manner. Next visit, I'll ask for extra. The bread is tasty, but has a harder outside, unlike a softer Gonella roll, so you really need a lot of au jus to permeate through the roll. The tiramisu was amazing. It is heavy on the mascarpone and less on the lady fingers, but the lady fingers were still so sufficiently soaked in espresso that you got a strong taste to it. I'm a big fan of the cold custard-like taste of mascarpone and prefer the ratio of mascarpone to lady fingers to favor the mascarpone, so it was a perfect treat for me. Outside of that, the general experience was great. Everybody was really friendly and helpful. The prices are very fair and I was able to get my sandwich and tiramisu for under $12. They also offer a variety of pastas that I will definitely be trying on my next visit, as well as their fill-to-order canolis. read more

Man, I somehow missed this gem for years! And I pass it on a weekly basis! Stopped by to grab sandwiches for lunch while visiting my mom. Based on the reviews, I decided on the D'Italia and I got my daughter the meatball sub. I asked for no cheese, no butter on my grilled D'Italia and was impressed that the cashier asked if I had a dairy allergy. When I said yes, she instructed her coworker to ensure there wasn't any cheese on the sandwich. About $15 and 5 minutes later, I took my carry out sandwiches to my moms to enjoy. Bravo! Stopped here for lunch on a whim, and boy am I glad I did. Had a big slice of vegetable pizza with pesto sauce. OUTSTANDING! They offered warm it in the oven before serving. The crust was medium thick, but light. How do you do that so well? The pesto sauce was delicious, topped with tomatoes, roasted red peppers, onion, pepperoncini, and cheese. Not yet satiated, i tried their castelvetrano olives & a limoncello cookie. Yum! Looks like they have quite a menu of hot and cold subs, salads, and pasta dishes. Salads and desserts in the cooler all looked good. There is also a deli counter with Italian meats and salads, and a freezer with frozen goodies. Relatively easy to find off of I-90 at the intersection of Detroit & Canterbury, east of Crocker. I will be back! read more

Made the journey north to the big city from my rural abode and stopped by for another great Italian Beef Sandwich. It was as GREAT as the one in my original review below. But this time I tried the white pizza too. Oh My Oh My!! I was blown away with the dough! I have made pizza for 50 years, and would give anything to know their recipe and work flow on this beauty! The center was pillowy soft, the crust was egg shell crisp, the cornice was utter buttery heaven! Oh and the cheese, the cheese... the best in the world! In the counter display was Grande Provolone and Sorrento Mozzarella. Imagine that, the two brands that I respect above all others for pizza. Finally if your feeling low, go to D'Italia, the smile of the woman working the register and taking orders will melt the heart of the most curmudgeon among us, and the food will amaze your palate! read more

What I think is a strong sandwich, you might tell me is nothing like the one you had when you were 16 at the local summer carnival kissing what's her name behind the Tilt-A-Whirl. I get it. Food can bring back wonderful memories of times and places which only enhance the experience. So no matter how amazing the food really is years later, it can't compare to those long past memories associated with the time you had that one special meal with a special person at a special time. THAT said, I won't claim that how you perceive the D'Italia Italian Beef sandwich is the way I do as the single best Italian Beef sandwich east of Chicago. Some prefer a little more seasoning to their beef. Some like a little more soak to the roll. I claim that the mixture of quality beef, perfectly melted cheese, always fresh roll, and perfect heat jardiniere fuse together to make one hell of a sandwich. Let's start with the bun. Always fresh. Never stale. I don't know how they do it. I've gotten some stale buns everywhere from Subway to Jimmy John's. But here? ALWAYS fresh. every time. Then, the meat. Never gristly, rubbery, or stringy. Always tender, juicy, and infusing the bun with loads of taste. And the meat:bun ratio is totally on point. Never too much, never too little. Anthony, the sandwich wizard, never fumbles the snap putting this miracle together. Could the brother and sister combo of Rick and Lisa, proprietors of this suburban gem, add a little additional seasoning to the meat? Maybe. But the dipping juice ("au jus" in the culinary parlance) supplied is more than enough IMHO to provide all the additional taste and wetness (notice I am consciously avoiding using the word "moist" in this review....you're welcome) you should need. You want taste? Make sure to include the jardiniere when asked. The optimal amount of kick which eliminates any need at all for additional seasoning/spices. Truly the star of the sandwich. That additional heat delivers the goods in a most satisfying way. And the mozzarella on top? Perfectly oven melted with a slight brown every time. Cuts into the spiciness of the jardiniere in a perfect panoply of exquisite synchronicity. How they do it time and time again befuddles me. You can say Portillo's is your favorite of all time because little Katie Smallville asked you to go steady while eating Italian Beef sammiches in your hometown Oak Brook franchise. Great memories. But why not give this one a try and make some new memories. You won't be disappointed. read more
