Pros: The queso was good and the chips were really fresh! The guacamole was fresh, i.e... nice and green... not that brown color you see when it's been out in the air a while. Cons: The chimichanga was not only overcooked, as evident by the dry hard beef inside but also by the overly brown crunchy tortilla that the plastic knife they included could not cut into! And to top it off, there was a toothpick in it! I guess it was used to hold the tortilla together while it cooked... yet they didn't bother to remove it before they served it to the customer... really...smh. Who does that? (rhetorical) The portion of rice and beans was not sufficient. They also put the container of sauce for the chimichanga on top of the rice... which is not sanitary considering someone held that container in their hand, and now you just put it on top of the rice in effect, contaminating it... again, who does that? The guacamole had no flavor or seasonings whatsoever... even guacamole served alfresca should have flavor to it... had to add seasoning to bring it life. We've eaten here a lot, it's always great food and pretty good service. It's a super popular place so a wait is always expected, at least they have a waiting area where you can get drinks and such before eating. The burrito (size of your face) is honestly a super good deal compared to most restaurants these days. Between that and an absurd amount of chips and creamy jalapeño, it's 2+ meals worth of food per person, if you've got the self control to not eat it all and be in pain haha. There is that same energetic vibe when you enter. Be warned, that energy is from a bustling restaurant and there can be wait times associated as well as a crowded parking lot. The noise level during peak times is loud enough where we were having problems communicating from one end of our table of six to the other. The staff, though seemed fairly efficient and attentive despite the crowds. The best part, though, is the quality of food. The original Chuy's isn't afraid of bringing the heat in a variety of sauces and dishes. I have to admit I'm a sucker for Hatch chilis and the Hatch Pork Enchiladas were so good! Luckily we came in at the right time as we were seated immediately as the waiting area to be seated was packed. There is usually a wait here when I have visited. You may sit at the bar without waiting. They do not seat incomplete parties and they do not take reservations. You can definitely call for take out and they have parking spots designated so you don't have to stress locating a parking spot to pick up your order. I normally order the Southwestern enchiladas, but ordered the steak burrito with green chile rice and charro beans last night to change it up. The food came out quick and piping hot. Yum! Lacking in flavor and texture. Probably ok for young kids that don't want to eat anything else. Literally didn't eat this more than one bite and threw it in the trash. The burrito itself is simple: a flour tortilla with refried beans and ground beef. Comes with a side of sauce. We chose the mild ranchero sauce on the top. The beef was a great size for two people to share. Would like to see additions such as lettuce on top or a dab of sour cream or guacamole. Overall, a decent meal but nothing to write home about. I can say I've tried this place now. I'm onto the next place to try. Would like to see them throw utensils and napkins in the bag for DD order in the future. The first day of summer vacation called for tacos and drinks. It was close to 4 PM on a Friday and given the hungry kid situation at our household we opted for Chuy's. Admittedly, I never go to Chuy's expecting superior service or food for that matter. But for the most part, we've had nothing but pleasant experiences. That creamy jalapeño salsa is so insanely scrumptious that I could literally bathe in it. I might be or NOT be exaggerating, but it is that good! For years I have been ordering the grilled shrimp tacos and they were taken off the menu during Covid. Well, guess what? They're back! The Comida Deluxe is also back which is my hubby's favorite so we were happy campers. My daughter had the chicken tenders and fries and the tenders were almost burned. My son had the burger and fries and he had zero complaints. Our waitress was not attentive at all. She did not bring us ketchup for the fries even after asking twice. She never offered us the ice cream that comes with the kids meal and honestly I did not remember and it was until one of the kids brought it up on the way home that I realized. She also never mentioned that it was happy hour. When prompted, she said it was only after 4 pm (which it already was). I asked what did it include and she said $1 off all drinks (not true; it only includes beers and select cocktails). Salsa: Not the most authentic Mexican salsa - it tastes more like a fresh tomatoes, chopped onion, cilantro, and chopped jalapeño puréed together, but it's fresh and isn't bad. Jalapeño ranch: This sauce surely KNOCKS MY SOCKS OFF. They don't automatically bring it out with the salsa, so remember to ask for it. Beef fajitas: Perfectly marinaded and cooked. The beef is tender and very flavorful, always comes out smoking hot. Guacamole: Fresh and tasty Refried beans: Very tasty. Normally many Tex-Mex restaurants make it very thick and dry, which I'm not a fan. Chuy's here makes it a bit runnier and I personally love it. Rice: Always on point. Flour tortillas: The softest and most delicious! It's as soft as the cloud that I just want to snuggle in it. Corn tortillas: As equally delicious as flour tortillas, but I prefer flour tortillas every time. Desserts: I only had desserts once because I always stuffed myself with delicious food and tortilla chips after every meal. One time, I had their tres leche (also my first time having tres leche) and I fell in love with it. Interior: Very clean and nicely decorated. Service: Very attentive staff. If you come during peak dinner hours, prepare to wait at least 30 mins for a table. However, I've never had to wait for 30 mins or more. The salsa is a chunkier salsa and very tasty. They also have a jalapeno white sauce that you can dip your chips in and pour over everything. Definitely ask for the jalapeño white sauce. I don't know exactly what is in it but, trust me it's amazing and free! Just ask for it with the chips and salsa that are free as well. Everything on the menu is so tasty but, I have to admit I crave the chicken fajitas. Best fajitas in Texas! The frozen margaritas are also so good! They have many options but, raspberry and strawberry margaritas are the best way to cool off from the hot Texas sun!!! They have a bar area for a fun night out with friends that is separate from the rest of the restaurant. When in Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Hutto, and other Texas cities, you must go.
