Went to Chuys today in Plano off 75 and had the worst experience ever. First off, we were told our table was ready and then lead around the entire restaurant only to have to wait for a table to be cleared. Next our server, Jon, was completely out of it. Went to Chuy's for the first time. Went with a big group, without a reservation, but, didn't have to wait long at all. The server, Michael was great. Great attitude, friendly, and funny. Food was great. Didn't wait too long. Waiter kept our chips, salsa, and drinks filled without having to be asked. Offered appetizers, drinks, and deserts. Chuy's Mexican Restaurant is located in Plano Texas and is always jammed pack full of people. Chuy's is a Tex-Mex restaurant and is stated by many that is quite inexpensive and always has good service. I wanted to eat there because I love Mexican food and I had been there once before and I remembered it as a great experience. Although apparently I have a super bad memory because a great experience is a bit of an understatement when you describe my most recent dining experience. Overall I think Chuy's has great food but needs help in their service area. If they improve their service this would be a Mexican hot spot for all events and outings. I arrived at Chuy's on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 5:10. We walked through a large crowd of people to get to the stand in which you are given your wait time for your table. When we walked up to the stand no one was there to greet us and it took 2 minutes for someone to arrive. They told us we would have about a 20 minute wait time so we found a spot and sat there waiting for our table. There was minimal indoor seating for waiting guests but loads of outdoor seating. Sadly this didn't come in handy because it was cold and rainy outside. While waiting for our table I went to the bathroom only to find toilet paper thrown all over the floor, not to mention the dirty stalls. Our wait time to get our table only ended up being 10 minutes for a table of 7. When we got to our table our server shoved 2 more chairs into a table meant for 5 to fit us in. On top of that we were only given 6 sets of utensils instead of 7. We were surrounded with very colorful and festive decorations and sitting at an unbalanced set of table and chairs. Once we ordered our drinks they came to us in 5 minutes which is pretty good timing. We had chips that were as crunchy as a yard full of autumn leaves, queso, and salsa as appetizers which were all very yummy. When going to order our food I found that the menu was organized and easy to read. Our waiter used very good manners and was very polite, but we had to constantly ask for him to refill our drinks and chips. We finally ordered our food at 5:35 and it arrived at 5:45. When our food arrived it was nicely organized onto the plate and came out nice and warm and fresh. I ordered the chicken flautas which were very appetizing and as I bit into them it was as juicy and crispy as a nice fresh apple. My uncle ordered the Chicken Cob Salad and found it was okay but thought the dressing was rich. My Mom and Dad ordered the Fajitas for two and thought that it was the perfect size besides the fact that they only serve 3 tortillas at a time which is odd because that means one person gets one fajita when the other gets two. The fajitas contained juicy-tasting chicken but terribly-fatty beef. Although I found all the food tasty I thought it was also very greasy. Our waiter brought the check at the perfect time, right as we were finishing our meal. My overall thought about Chuy's is that it contains great tasting, lip smackin' food but really needs to work on its service. For example, getting a larger indoor seating area might come in handy so when you have to walk into or out of the restaurant you don't have to push through a crowd of 30-40 compacted people waiting to get their tables. Love this place for veggie enchiladas! However the sauces are what sets it apart from other places. They have about six or seven. My favorite are the Tomatillo and boom boom sauce(not on the main menu). It's a more of creamy sauce with a spicy kick! And the jalapeño ranch to get with the chips in the beginning is also one of my favorites! I'm also really picky with tortilla chips and they have great thin, ungreasy ones! read more

Wanted to try something different than taco cabana. I did a quick search online in my local neighborhood and came across Chuys. It's was close to closing time place my order over the phone and picked up just in time. The fajitas dinner was very tasty! The homemade tortilla was so soft and tender. The corn chips and ranch dip was so good I can eat it everyday. Good place to stop by for lunch or dinner worth the prices. I just find out about the nacho bar 4pm-6pm oh my! read more

I typically eat at the bar and have had only good experiences. Today, Fathers Day, I was hesitant to go in due to the crowds, but did it anyway. After waiting 40 minutes for a table, I asked the hostess how much longer it would be. I was told, I was not on the list. I had a pager, but had been marked off the list. Okay, not a big deal, except for the total disregard for the waisted time. There was zero sense of urgency in getting us seated, more of a let me see and I will let you know attitude. Not the first time the service has been less than acceptable. I do not expect this to sway anyones decision to try Chuy's, more that I am very disappointed and want to share my experience. Chips are thin and not bad. Their salsa aren't my favorite, but it's not bad either. Their ranch dip is really good though. I got their taco salad and it was good although I had taco salads with shells that tasted better for my taste buds. They give huge portion though. The person I went with got the elvis presley memorial combo and exchanged crunchy taco for flautas. I tried a bite out of everything and it was good. I like flautas anywhere so that was good. Their tostada chips dipped queso was also good. Just overall I think the food is good for it's price and portion. It's a bit on the heavy side for me though. A Night at Chuy's We pulled into the Chuy's parking lot and then proceeded to enter the restaurant. It immediately felt like we had entered a different world, not just any other restaurant, due to the strong over-all feel you get from this Mexican restaurant, they really did go above and beyond with the overall feel. We ask for our table of five, and we are hit right in right in the gut- we are told that we have to wait 25 minutes. It is a Friday night at 6:00, and we are all starving, and now we have to wait 25 minutes? Of course, then again it was a Friday night, so it was not abnormal for any restaurant to be this busy. I didn't think that this would be much different than any other Mexican restaurant I had been to before, but I was dead wrong. We found a spot to stand with all of the other starving patrons waiting for their tables, but we noticed that they were all eating chips and queso- had they already but served their food? I decided to investigate. It didn't take me too long to notice the sign that said "It's Happy Hour!" and apparently, here, happy hour comes with a nice serving of FREE, unlimited chips and queso! I walk over to the queso bar and get a bunch of chips and queso for my family- enough to last 25 minutes (but what does it matter- its unlimited!) The time waiting for our table FLIES by- must be the food. It seemed to go so fast, that I had to check the timer that I had set so I knew exactly how long it was- and I was right, it wasn't 25 minutes- it was only 18! This could mean one of two things: Either the staff is working so fast to get people to their tables, getting their food cooked, getting them out and getting their table clean so quickly that it is an average of 7 minutes faster a table, or they overshoot on the time estimate to happily surprise customers when they are seated earlier- either way, both are great, so we decided to think that they did both. Our waitress was very friendly, but didn't waste any time- she immediately got us seated and gave us our drink, then took our orders. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup, because every self-respecting Mexican restaurant should have good chicken tortilla soup. However, just to kind of throw a wrench in the food making venture, I asked them to leave the cheese out and give me the avocado on the side. After myself and everyone else in my family had finished ordering, I went to go get us some more (free) chips and queso, and soon after I came back, our food was ready- we only waited about 11 minutes for our food to come out, which is not very long for a Friday night during prime dinner hours. It was the moment of truth- time to see if they had got my order correct- there was no cheese or avocado in my soup, but the avocado that we asked for on the side- we never got, even after we asked for it to be brought to our table. I tasted the soup, and it was pretty good- I am not sure if I was expecting it to be bad our what, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I got the large soup because I was very hungry, but I had noticed the size of the small at the table next to me- unless you are a 4 year old, the small bowl of soup will not fill you up- just a hint of advice. My only complaint about the soup was the tomatoes- I know tomatoes are a common ingredient in this flavor of soup, but the way the tomatoes were chopped up, and their texture were kind of strange, and it did not enhance the soup at all- it honestly just added an undesired flavor to my what could-have-been outstanding bowl of chicken tortilla soup. However, I tried the steak fajitas that my brother got, and those were very good- at least the steak was. I was somewhat underwhelmed with the tortilla. After the food, we asked for the check, and they brought it to us with great speed, in a very quick manner as well. We paid for our food, and we were told to have a great rest of our night. Overall, I had an outstanding experience at Chuy's Mexican restaurant. The "theme" that this restaurant has is cool and well-thought-out, but, not going to lie, somewhat strange. We stopped yesterday to eat at this Chuy's location thinking it would be just as good as the other locations we have been to, sadly it was not. All the waiters acted like they didn't want to serve their customers and were not friendly, especially ours. It took a long time to even get served, our drinks were never refilled and my food was cold. We had to find another waitress to take my plate back because our waiter was no where to be found. He came back acting surprised that I didn't have my plate on our table because it was cold, he claimed he didn't know about it. Well if you don't check on your tables you won't know. My family loves Chuy's. We go to the the Parker and North Dallas Tollway location all the time. We were in this area today so we decided to try this location out. The food was just as good as always, unfortunately we seem to have gotten a less experienced waiter today. After we ordered our meal as soon as he got to our table, we asked for some queso, jalapeño ranch and then our food order with the sauce on the side for the kids since we're not sure how spicy the sauce is. I love the Elvis fried chicken and I also like the sauce in the side bc the chicken gets soggy as you eat it. The queso came out and we quickly devoured the chips, and when he stopped by after awhile, we asked for water (hadn't gotten any yet) and more chips. Next, after about 10 mins, the food arrives, not how we ordered it. Still no chips. Still no water. The kids food had the sauce over it as did my chicken. I finally got def up with everything and asked to speak to the manager. Josh, the manager in duty, came by, found out what was going on and fixed everything. He also helped us understand that the waiter had been frazzled because he'd lost someone's credit card and was looking for it. Chuys is usually at least a 4 star for us. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed Chuy's. It is a very funky decor good if not great Tex Mex staples. I had the Elvis Chicken Fried Chicken with green chile sauce. It was really good, the chicken breast was breaded with potato chips which gave it a really good flavor along with the Chile sauce which was spicy but not overly so. Labor Day weekend and typical Sunday evening crowd, but wait wasn't too long. First time back in several months... needed a Tex-Mex fix. Service was still friendly and upbeat, but fewer choices on the menu (the daily specials - including one of my favorites - were covered over). Settled for a "steak burrito" with hatch green chili sauce; very disappointing - an oversized, doughy flour tortilla (more like an undercooked pancake) with scattered bits of dried out beef - less than a small taco's worth - and a little melted cheese rolled-up inside... basically a big dough ball. The beans, rice and hatch chili sauce were fine, but wasted on a mediocre "burrito" wannabe. Should have ordered-in from nearby Chipotle, Taco Cabana or Bueno; would have been a better value and higher quality ingredients. Maybe a bad night in the kitchen; maybe just skimping on ingredients for higher profit... either way, doubt I'll be back anytime soon. read more

In terms of the food, I've eaten here before and it is good. Not amazing, just generic tex mex. Go to abuelos across the street if you want great Mexican food. This review gets 2 stars based on the staff. My party of 13 waited for one hour even though we settled for two split tables which was estimated at 30 minutes wait. They had a table of 13 set up at the hour but said they were giving it to the party of 13 that just walked in because we had stated we could do split tables. This was wrong on all levels and the manager did not care to understand our situation. It was the principal of it all and how they decided to shaft the people who were flexible so we left. read more

Was on hold the entire drive to the store (15 minutes) no one ever picked up, was still waiting for someone to pick up the phone when I walked into the store to order. I could understand the wait time if they were busy, but no one was parked at the to go spots and the waitperson for to go was busy chatting with the hostesses. Pass this location and you will notice a very full parking lot at lunch and dinner almost every day. It had been about a year since we dined here so we decided to stop again. The place will be crowded unless you arrive very early. You will notice the bright colors on all the walls and immediately think of a cantina somewhere in Mexico. The food is good, however, price wise compared with other mexican restaurants it is a little on the high side. I just stick with the Mexican platter as it has all the goodies on it.There will be lots of kids as this is a fun place to eat. The wait service was very good. Wow, I find the good reviews for this chain being quite the one-sided deference. Let's just give an honest rating without kicking back the margaritas! The free salsa fresca is priced right, cold and flavorful but is not hot/spicy and is overly bitter with vinegar. The eight other warm salsas are bland, too similar and boring as well. The chips were light but room temperature and unsalted. The plain cheese quesadillas were not plain at all. There was no cheddar to be found rather a smokey overly-rich cheese. Also, fresh jalapenos were not available. The server offered canned, pickled peppers in their place as if it didn't matter! This restaurant is obviously a favorite for the uninformed diner and some contemporary conservatives. Keep spending $3.50 per beer to keep this place afloat. I'm glad you are there! That means there's a seat available at a more authentic and reasonable Mexican restaurant! I usually pride myself in only providing stellar reviews for great establishments. I have been to Chuys now about four times. Each time, I have had excellent and quick service, and the food has been just great. No variation in quality of service or food. I usually order chili rellenos and cheese enchiladas with boom boom sauce. This restaurant states their beans and rice are vegetarian, so safe for vegetarians. Its always crowded, but the wait is worth it if you can deal with 20 minutes to 45 min waits. Go early. Salsa is awesome and everything tastes fresh! Tortillas are fantastic. Just have to keep asking for more because they only serve a limited amount each time, but they will keep bringing it. I like Abuelos also next door, but overall, Chuys is more consistent with quality and service, and I really don't like the ipad technology to be sitting on tables at Abuelos. Just feels a bit creepy with the cameras on those ipads. Enough with the technology! read more
