I love green chilies, and this is the closest thing we have to that cuisine in the area for dinner. My friends and I LOVE going to the happy hour nacho bar, and when I go for dinner, I try to sit outside on the patio. For some reason, I'm always drawn to the stacked enchiladas. It's close to what I make at home, but much easier because I don't have to clean up after. I know that large groups like to come here, but I like to avoid those peak times because it makes everybody happier. read more

First time at Chuy's, in fact I never knew of it until I saw it on Yelp. We went there for my birthday and really enjoyed it. The chicka chicka boom boom is quite good as is the appetizer sampler. The relleno and enchilada were good and it's good that with this dish you get to choose your sauce. The only thing that I didn't care for were the sopapillas, aren't they usually deep fried? These seemed doughy and had a mixture on top of them that seemed like a combination of confectioners sugar and cinnamon. We started eating at Chuy's at The Woodlands, Texas about 10 years ago and was thrilled to find one in Norman once we moved to OKC. The food at the Norman location tastes the same. But the service doesn't quite stack up. Unlike The Woodlands location, the hosting staff in Norman is not warm and friendly when you walk in. And they don't give you utensils as they should. I really enjoy the food but the last few times I have came to this specific Chuys the service has been awful. I am always a kind person and understanding if someone is having a rough day or what not but this last experience has been the straw that broke the camels back. Our waitress did not check on us frequently and my friend never got her drink refilled. We ordered Queso and it didn't come until after we had already ate our meal when we eventually gave up and asked her. When I looked to see where our waitress had gone to pay for our meal she was sitting in a booth with other coworkers on her phone texting. We waited for 15 minutes until she came back to get our payments and then she never gave us our change and never came to check on us until we gave up and left. read more

The waiter was nice and tried hard. The manager should have refunded our meal, but instead he reluctantly charged us 50% of the ticket. This place isn't bad if you don't know any better. We were seated rather quickly. That was nice. The high speed tempo was the theme of the night because our waitress treated our table like a pit car in a NASCAR race. She would swoop by the table and refill drinks, I would need and ask for napkins, silverware or something else, but I could only ask for one thing at a time before she would just swoop off again. For the most part, we were the only people in the area, and we came in at the tail end of a rush, so I don't understand what the hurry was. The chips were good and but the salsa was terrible. It wasn't really salsa but more like Hot Chow Chow with sweet onion. My wife and I ordered the Southwest Chicken Enchiladas. Not sure Southwest what, maybe Southwest Oklahoma. The blue corn gimmick is not needed. Really good enchiladas sell themselves. Not sure what kind of chile was in the enchiladas - I suspect Anaheim peppers, not Hatch green chile. The egg on top was fried rubbery hard. We asked for some flour tortillas - waitress brought us two. There were three of us. She brought us a napkin - we got one. There were still three of us. Later she brought us each one. The portions were really big, but the food wasn't that great. The rice was dry. The refried beans were pretty good. The bright shining light at the end of this disaster was the tres leches cake. It's huge and it's good. In closing, next time, I'll just stroll across the parking lot and wait. Everything about our dining experience was excellent. Our server (Fanni K) was outstanding - friendly, professional, efficient, attentive & extremely knowledgeable about the menu, food & sauces. (She is also delightfully Hungarian!) Since it was our first time to Chuy's she brought us a complimentary "rainbow plate" so we could test drive all of the sauces - what a great idea! The (thin) chips & salsa is a salsa fresco (more like pico de gallo) and very tasty with a little kick. Tortillas are brought to the table although Queso is a menu item, but definitely upgrade & get the Compuesto - SO good. We were planning to hit up a brewery after our meal so didn't have drinks, but I have heard good things about the margaritas and swirls so maybe next time. My Chicken Chile Relleno was fabulous and I opted for the spicy Hatch Green Chile Sauce, although I added some of the spicy/smoky salsa Costena as well. I got the grilled veggies instead of refried beans, but beware they have a bit of heat due to the inclusion of serrano peppers. The green chile rice was delicious. Everything tasted very fresh. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous - we had plenty of food to eat and leftovers galore! (so no room for dessert) We really enjoyed the food, decor and ambience, but our charming server was the icing on the cake! Here's a tip - go early, especially on Fri or Sat pm. We arrived around 4:30-ish pm and were seated right away, but the joint was jam-packed by 5 pm! Came here recently with a large group, we enjoyed the bar atmosphere with the Happy Hour drinks and free Nachos bar. Our server was okay, the hostess was a little pushy when we were trying to decide where we were going to dine. I believe they would rather accommodate larger parties in the dining area rather then bar, but we were unsure of how many would be coming, so we opted for the bar. Go during Happy Hour (4-7pm) and enjoy free bottomless self-serve chips and queso, as well as $3 domestic beers. I ate at this Chuy's. My wife and I were served by a guy named "KEVIN M". He called my wife fat, then implied that she had (or should develop) an eating disorder, and told her where the bathroom was so she could "get rid" of her food. I originally wasn't going to write about this online. I spoke over the phone with a regional manager for Chuy's, and he assured me that the server would be fired and he'd send us a ticket for a free meal. I figured, any industry that hires enough low wage workers, with such a high turnover is going to have it's share of incidental assholes, like KEVIN M, so I was apt to let this go. The ticket arrived as promised, however, two weeks later, KEVIN M still has a job with Chuy's. Fuck this place. They clearly don't care about customer service and they won't see another cent of my money, and I will consider every person I dissuade from eating there to be a personal victory. read more

Over the past several months, going to Chuy's has been hit and miss on both the service and the food. We HAD been going to Chuy's every few weeks; we loved their tres leches and beef tacos. The front of the house staff is very rude, and more interested in themselves than the patrons. The waiters are fine, nothing exceptional, mostly high school kids that have better things do than their job. They also don't give you appetizer plates (it's like pulling teeth to get one, if they want my cheese dripping all over the table that's fine with me...) But mostly, it's the front of the house where the problem lies. For example, we came in and asked for a booth. Nobody else was waiting, just me and my husband. The lady said 'it will be a moment' we said OK and stepped back and waited. A woman and her three kids come in, ask for a booth, and they're immediately seated. We asked what happened to our table, and they gave us a 'oh these people again' look, and said 'it will be a minute'. We wait patiently, and another group walks in, ask for a booth, and are immediately seated. We thought it was a prank at first, but alas, we asked again about our booth and how we've been overlooked twice, and they acted annoyed with us. They finally take us to our seat and that same lady sits us down at a TABLE, not a booth. I see a clean booth next to the table, and I say "we are sitting in this booth" very matter of fact, sorry not sitting at a table after all that mess. She kind of snorted at us and said "FINE!", gave us a snicker, and then proceeded to go back to the front and talk about it with her comrades. Laughing and giggling ensued. There's too many 'hostesses' and none of them seem to communicate or coordinate with each other, it's amazing they find their way to work every day. So after that surreal and disheartening encounter on our last visit, we decided we weren't coming back to dine, but we would order take-out. Well, that's a fine idea until you're put on hold and then disconnected THREE times in a row. So I guess they don't want us to come back in any capacity, and we are happy to oblige. Get it together, Chuys. Seriously rethink your front of the house employees and whomever claims that they 'manage' them. There's a company culture of mediocrity that needs to be addressed. Ted's is right next door and arguably much better than your establishment; don't push your patrons elsewhere. There's no hope for us, even though we WANT your beef tacos and tres leche cake, you make it impossible to be a repeat customer. read more

I loved the relaxed atmosphere and 80's rock music. The fish and shrimp tacos were amazing. Chili releno was ok a bit oily but tasty if you are craving it. The veggie enchilada with ranchero sauce was also ok but I preferred the shrimp and fish baha tacos over everything else. Chips and salsa rocked. I'm in love with their salsa. Also they substitute beef for shrimp crunchy tacos which were pretty good with toppings. Overall I loved it here. Lots of good sauces to choose from and very good service. read more

Got there at 5pm and tried to sit in the bar. 5 people behind the bar watched us for 2 minutes standing beside a dirty table waiting for it to be cleaned as it was the only one available. Not one of them moved. 2 on their phones the others just loafing. I walked up and asked them to clean it. They were only 2 steps away and they said sure then went back to standing there ignoring us. Pathetic help in the bar area. The only reason I gave more than 1 Star was that the waitress who wiped off the table for us finally was great. The food was good. There was constantly a long line at the car for chips cheese and salsa because they would not refill it as well. So to our waitress thanks you at least made it not a total wreck of a visit and we tipped you accordingly. To the bar staff if you hate your job or are just that plum lazy you should probably quit. read more

The most recent incident left us waiting for more than a half hour after ordering for our food to arrive. The manager was very apologetic and took care of the ticket for us. My personal favorite dish of theirs is the chile relleno. The creamy jalapeño sauce is amazing, be sure to ask for it. Their prices are very reasonable, which is nice! I gotta say, it takes a pair for an inexplicably busy Tex-Mex chain restaurant from Texas to open next to another inexplicably busy Tex-Mex chain restaurant from Oklahoma. I visited on a weekend night, and while the wait wasn't long--only two people in my party--the front end of the restaurant seemed wildly disorganized. They actually had trouble finding us when our table was ready, as we hadn't received one of those little light-up coasters. Our waiter was a charming kiddo, seemed a little unsure, and our service was slow, even for the crowd. The queso was pretty good, if a little overpriced. I ordered chicken flautas, smothered in their chipotle sauce, which I found bland. The guacamole was fresh, the beans and rice standard cheap Mexican restaurant fare. I can see how the environment and garish decor could work for a large group (of people drinking...), but I'm not sure I have enough of a reason to give it a second try. read more

I am about to give up a most Mexican restaurants in this area. As there seems to be only one in the OKC area that is any good. I ate at a taco stand a few nights before eating here and would rather have that over this place. And when we decided we were over it and the tabs were split, the bartender still put the tabs all together. Typically is a favorite restaurant for us to go to, this was the worse experience yet.
