I am so happy that true Tex Mex from the state of Texas has finally arrived in Oklahoma. I have long been a fan of Chuy's and know them from their locations in Austin and Dallas; ladies and gentlemen I am happy to report that their Norman location has the same great menu items, taste, and service as their other locations. Their salsas are incredible, chips are super thin and very crisp, and their dinners are some of the best Tex Mex I've ever eaten. I'm a fan of the Chuy's Special, but you can't go wrong with their rellenos, The Southwestern, or any of their enchiladas (try the Elvis Memorial combo). If you are looking for something that is bland and covered in a bucket of cheese, then go somewhere else. There was lots of hype about this place when they came on the Norman scene and when they were gutsy enough to open right next to Ted's Escandido (are they nuts?). This food is 'okay'. Hubby really liked the fajitas and daughter really liked the burrito but I ordered the Chuy's enchilada special and it was mediocre at best. But what I must rave about is thier SANGRIA!!!!! TO DIE FOR! We went opening week - crowded, long wait, loud...we didn't receive any type of complimentary queso but maybe we should have requested it (this is like staple in this area - it should be automatic). We ended up ordering queso and it was tasty but pricey. I'll probably give this place another try and probably have two sangrias next time... ;). The food here is a horrible disgrace to the term Mexican food. Twelve of us ate here after traveling in from out of town and all 12 of us didn't care for the food. You can probably do better cooking Tex Mex yourself. read more

My mother and I went there for the first time this week and it had some good points but mostly bad. Lets start with the good. The strawberry-tini was pretty good and for $12 you get a decent amount. This is a strawberry margarita served in a shaker with a martini glass. Regardless what they call it, it was tasty. The waitress was awesome. She was very attentive but not annoying. The salsa was good with a fresh flavor. That's where the good stops. I ordered the #1 and my mom the #2. It tasted like a frozen dinner that was microwaved. The flautas and guacamole had no flavor. Absolutely terrible. About half way through I began to feel sick and tapped out. My mother was able to finish her meal but became ill within 5 minutes of finishing. I really wanted to like this place but there has to be more than just great service and cheap drinks. read more

We ended up going with a large group tonight and I was so disappointed. My husband and I got an appetizer, which had flautas, queso, nachos and quesadillas on it. It was pretty good. The flautas and queso were the best part about it. For my entree I ordered the #1, which again had flautas on it as well as a taco and enchilada. The flautas were great, the enchiladas were terrible. The sauce that they put on it, I believe it was the Tex-Mex sauce, it was so strong and just tasted horrible. My taco was so greasy. I had grease running down my hand and dripping all over my plate. It was so disappointing because my good friend had talked this place up for the last month and it was just terrible. Most definitely will not be back. read more

Mexican is my favorite food. I've eaten a lot a lot of Tex Mex and this is by far the worst I've ever had. Underwhelming flavor, which was covered up by an excess of spice, too greasy, dried out, and the tortillas are beyond rubbery. Why are the beans sweet? Food is good. I think their food has better flavor than Ted's. The downside is that they don't give free cheese dip like Ted does. So, I guess it's a toss up. My kids prefer the free queso dio so we tend to return to Ted's instead of Chuy's. read more

The food here is delicious! I love the different salsa choices. I always order the same thing, the chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas. I love it so much I cannot order anything else. I have tried other menu items off of my friends plates and everything is always delicious. Everything tastes so fresh. I always splurge on the Tres Leches for dessert. It is divine! Norman is blessed with some very good Mexican places, so it was just on a whim we decided to try Chuy's. Bright colors and interesting decor lead to a favorable first impression. The food however, was disappointing. First, we were served chips and a bowl of some watery substance that may have been salsa.... Strained with a fork, it did yield bits of tomato and peppers. If you wanted to get your chip wet, you could dunk it. My wife asked if tortillas were available, and immediately we were given a container of room temperature tortillas and some hard cold butter. We were not offered queso, or pickled veggies to go with it, just cold butter and soupy salsa. I ordered a fajita burrito and my wife a taco salad in the hope that simple fare couldn't be messed up too badly! We were wrong, dry, tasteless, filled with refried beans and mushy rice the meals had only one thing to recommend them, massive quantity. So if massive quantity in a cute decor is your idea of a good meal, go for it. For us, there are better choices! Three charitable stars read more

not bad at all. this place has made it into the rotation as an occasional go to when burnt out on favorites. has some really unique sauces that are all good. definitely more salsa/sauce choices here than any place i can think of in norman. the guac is great. queso is just as good. my go to pics are nachos, quesadillas, and enchiladas. the tacos aren't bad at all either. i've been using it as a to-go option when i wanna be lazy and it's great. actually haven't eaten at the place yet if you can believe that. (no i'm not some hermit. i swear i go out.) for locals its definitely worth checking out and seeing if you like it. one thing to note is it is a chain based in texas, so if you are visiting norman from out of town i would suggest going to one of our many locally owned places. see my list of norman institutions for options there if you like. read more

Outstanding! My wife and I regularly visit for their Macho burrito, quesadillas, enchiladas and wonderful queso. (note: they charge extra for the queso and it's totally worth it) Be warned: The food is seasoned and has heat to it. (unlike Ted's, Tarahamuras and other BLAND places we have eaten before) Mexican food is meant to have FLAVOR. Ironically, the least spicy thing on the menu is the jalapeno ranch dipping sauce, which I dip and pour everything with because it's delightful. Their handmade flour tortillas are insanely delicious and are complementary if you order them with your meal. The service has always been outstanding, ever since our first time there. They have kooky decor and a history with Elvis, as well as several menu items. (such as the Elvis fried chicken, crusted with crushed potato chips) T-shirts are available to buy at the front with random pop culture references they associate themselves with. Some are downright hilarious. This is currently my favorite restaurant to visit. If you go on Saturdays, you can order pulled pork. I grew up on Chuy's when I was living in San Antonio. I was overjoyed when I heard they were opening a location in Norman. After 3 visits, I have come to the conclusion that this location is every bit as great as every other location I have been to. For a starter, the queso compuesto is a can't miss. Great flavor and very consistent! You can't go wrong with having the Chuy's Special as a main course. I've even had friends that don't like tomatillo sauce rave about this dish as one of the best meals they've ever had. Of course, the margaritas are also phenomenal. Any flavor is a can't-miss. I'm overjoyed that the metroplex finally has some more terrific Tex-Mex, because this is as good as it gets. read more

Hands down an amazing restaurant! Everything is so flavorful and very large portions. The creamy jalapeño ranch is one of the most wonderful things you will every eat. The price is good to. we went to chuy's with a very large group {45} during a conference in OKC. the service was perfect, the waitstaff was patient & had all of our food out in a timely manner. My wife and I gave it a try. This place is busy on Friday nights. Service is not upto par against Teds or Taramuharas. Everything was avg chain texmex except the tortilla was different and great. Love love love this place. Food is excellent. All of the different sauce choices are great. Fun atmosphere and deco. The free jalapeño dip is wonderful with their chips. Friendly staff. Oh Chuy's how do I love thee let me count the ways. My husband asked me "so where do you want to go for our anniversary?" Jokingly I said Chuy's, which is about a six hour drive for us. But being the perfect person he is we went to Oklahoma City, ostensibly for our anniversary but we both know it was for Chuy's. They did not disappoint. We started with a New Mexican Martini, chips and salsa in the bar. I kid you not I would have driven the six hours just for the creamy jalapeno dip. The dip is not something that is typically brought out with the chips. You have to ask for it. In the old days when Chuy's first opened in Austin you had to know somebody that worked there to get it. My husband had the burrito with the boom boom sauce and I had the beef fajitas. The food was cooked perfectly. That's the great thing about Chuy's I know the food is going to be just as good in OKC as it is in Houston, Colorado Springs, or back in Austin. Chuy's for me is a great taste of home. read more

Horrible service, managers, and food. Got all of our food wrong, when we asked for the corrections they were rude and hateful, naturally we asked for a manger, he wasn't any better. I downloaded yelp and made an account specifically to write about this place. We came here only because the line at teds was too long and I wish we would have just gone to Taco Bell. I don't know what school the interior designer dropped out of but they have a knack for over the top tacky and gaudy styling. We had about 40 minutes to notice the terrible interior while we waited on our food. During which time we were served chips and 1 small cup of salsa every 10 minutes. No queso or tortillas though because those cost extra. There is something wrong with a Mexican restaurant charging extra for queso, Especially when all of their other food prices are on the high side as well. But at least the bathroom has paper towels instead of air dryers, which comes in handy for when you aren't given any napkins. It's not a good sign when the mediocre food is the best thing that happened during our dinner. I will enjoy pooping this out of my body more than I enjoyed any part of eating here. Chuy's? More like Doo-Dees. Seriously though, don't come here. Just wait in line at Ted's. Update 3 hours later: we both have diarrhea. read more

When I ate ay Chewy's I ordered the. Chili releno. The peper and filling were good but I was not a fan of the breading. The chips and salsa were great as was the wait staff. I'm sure I'll go again and try a different menu item. read more

Service wasn't good. I asked for flour tortillas twice and never got them. Had to ask for plates for our chips and salsa and never got that. Had to ask for silverware when our meal came and finally got that! Yeah!! I got the chuys special and the chicken inside the layered corn tortilla tasted like left overs and the sauce they used to cover the tacos was very sour. The rice and beans had a burnt taste to them. I don't usually go to a chain place for Tex-Mex when there are great, locally owned places all over Norman/OKC area, but everyone I know has been talking about this place, so we tried it. I was pleasantly surprised. I really wasn't expecting it to be very good and I really liked the food and some of it even had some heat to it (which it seems with chain places, they bland their food down). Wife and I eat here at least every two weeks, I have not had a bad meal. Service is normally excellent as is the food but ever place can have an off day. The beef fajitas are some of the best in okc area. The retried beans are normally the best. The bar staff have always been excellent and friendly/helpful. We are avid Chuys converts since they opened this location. Keep doing what your doing guys. read more
