Don't be discouraged if they tell you a 25 min wait... it ended up more like 2.5 min wait. If you like a delicious dipping sauce with your chips try the creamy jalapeño. If you want something a little hotter, try the boom boom sauce but warning it costs 3.59 for a small dipping bowl. A little pricey and too loud of an environment for a relaxing dinner. Ok so I posted too soon.... my order came out wrong so my husband ate his entire meal, plate cleared and I still haven't gotten mine! A good 20 Min more! Unfortunate. This restaurant used to be clean, the food used to be consistently good, the difficult service used to be explained by the fact that it was a new restaurant. Chuy's Norman has had plenty of time to work out the kinks. Now: - The food is as bad as the terrible service. - Servers are the worst. ----Orders were wrong at every table around us, including ours. EVERY table. ----Servers were rude. When we saw our waitress, she repeatedly stated that she wanted to leave and told us everyone else working there felt the same way. - The restaurant was really dirty. The floor, our table, our utensils, food floating in my water...the bathroom was so disgusting that I did not use the restroom. - The manager was "put out" when we asked for a sack for our to go boxes. She left us for 20plus minutes just to get a sack. After she gave it to us so we could sack our own items, she did not tell us thank you for coming or good bye or anything. Coming to this Chuy's is always a treat for me and my boyfriend (Seriously, this shit gets us horny for tex-mex.) At our most recent visit, my boyfriend walked out without his to-go. He'd saved most of his meal so we would have room for dessert. A minute later he ran back in to grab it but was told it was already trashed. Because I felt it was my fault for rushing him out, I went back in myself to pay for another. These guys went out of their way to make sure I left with his order (freshly made) in a timely manner and also threw in some free chips and salsa. We've been coming here for a while and since the pandemic it has gone down hill. Went tonight only to find out they close at 9pm on a Friday night in the middle of summer. Just looking to get a few great margaritas and some half decent food. Last time here they still had a condensed menu and the food wasn't that great. Not one of our favorites. Similar in flavor to teds next door but you have to pay for each and every thing like flour tortillas and queso (the stuff that teds provides for free.) I do like their chili rellenos though. Made with Anaheim peppers rather than poblano, they are much more flavorful than those found in most other Mexican or tex-mex places. read more

Finally, Chuy's has made it to the OKC metro! I'm honored to be the first Yelp reviewer! For Oklahomans who haven't been properly introduced, Chuy's is a Tex-Mex Institution, literally one of the best Tex-Mex chains there is, no exaggeration. Do yourself a favor, check this place out, fall in love, and make this new Norman restaurant a Yelp must-see. We visited yesterday, and they have only been open for a week as of this writing, but let me tell you, the food is just as good as any Houston-area location I've ever frequented. My wife and I got a Famous Lime Margarita (with a Corona sticking out of it) which was delicious, the creamy Jalapeno dip (a complementary must-have with your chips...its got a Facebook fan page people, so get some), the Fajitas for one (amazing), the Chuy's Special enchiladas (a must-have Chuy's experience), and Chuy's famous Tres Leches cake, which will make you slap yo' Mama. I almost hit my mom...just sayin, it was that good. Everything we had was just as amazing as I would expect from any Chuy's in Texas, which is saying something. The service was great, if overly informative, but I attribute this to the fact that many new visitors will have never been to a Chuy's before, and the servers have been told to talk up the famous Chuy's staples. Juan made us feel welcome, was extremely thoughtful, and even hooked my wife up with some Homemade Torillas to take home and a take-home iced-tea. Overall, a great dining experience. I love love love Chuy's ! It is my favorite Tex Mex Mexican in the area by far... It is not greasy like some Tex Mex Mexican places around can be, and they have really good salsa and homemade tortillas. I don't stray often from the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (chicken enchiladas) but I've also tried the fish tacos, chile relleno, and enchiladas in blue corn tortillas. Everything I've ever had at Chuy's is great...They use roasted pulled chicken in their entrees and it really improves the taste. They also have green chili rice which I like...a nice change from the usual Mexican rice. The Tres Leches cake is amazing. Dense cake covered in milk and they give you a huge piece...4 people can split it no problem. It's to die for ! Sometimes the service can be a little slow depending on your server but that's the only critical thing I can say. Also I've been with people at Chuy's who have mentioned the noise level gets high but I'm not bothered by that in this instance. The food is just too good to care ! We hit @ChuysNorman right after the game on Saturday. The parking lot and lobby were packed, so we put our name in and got a margarita. The bar staff was helpful and fun, the classic margaritas were wonderful and we got to snack on some chips and salsa while we waited. Our table was ready pretty quickly all things considered. Since we'd had snacks at the game, we weren't starving. The four of us shared a combo double order of fajitas (chicken and steak), the creamy jalapeño dip and a few more beers. Not only was it the perfect amount of food, the food was perfect. The sirloin in the fajitas was so good, I only ate one fajita and proceeded to eat the rest of my share of the meat all by itself. It was better than lots of steaks I've had a steak places. We subbed charro beans for refried and I'm glad we did. Splitting made it crazy affordable, even with drinks, and was plenty of food. Bouns: we weren't so full when we left that we wanted to die, which is nice. Our server took great care of us without ever interrupting our conversation, and a manager brought out our food and made sure we were enjoying it. The building itself is big, clean, bright and lots of fun. It was the perfect place to go post-game to extend our good mood and turn our fun day into a fun night. This restaurant has a little different twist on Tex-Mex. I had the slow-roasted pork enchiladas and my server warned me about the "heat" of the sauce so I ordered a milder sauce on the side. If you like spicy food, the pork enchiladas are for you. I don't much care for too much spice so I didn't finish my meal, but it did have a good flavor (just too spicy). The queso was very good and the chips were made fresh (no bagged chips here). The original salsa was also very good and they have a variety of other salsas to order as well. The service was excellent and the restaurant has a really fun atmosphere. I will most certainly go back, I will just be careful to order something not so spicy. :-) read more

Look, when you're a Mexican restaurant in the OKC market, you've gotta bring your A-game. Like, full-on, Johnny Tsunami "Go Big or Go Home" A-game. The stakes are through the roof, and everyone who walks through the door is going to leave with a very strong opinion. Granted, the circumstances are not on Chuy's side. The last thing you see before you walk through the door is the LEGENDARY Ted's Café Escondido, and if you search for Chuy's on your iPhone on the way, it's going to remind you that you're flying into a meteor belt of awesome Tex Mex. You can't shake a stick in Norman city limits without hitting good Mexican food. That said, I've been to Chuy's a few times, and just can't get on board. Nothing I've tried really pops, and the overall experience leaves a lot to be desired, especially when you're waiting on some sophomore at OU to bring you the queso you asked for 10 minutes ago while staring out the window longingly at Ted's. Despite all of that, I wouldn't have lost sleep over assessing Chuy's a 2 or 3-star rating. However, the waiters all wear these ridiculous shirts that say "Practice Safe Mex" accompanied by a blatantly phallic graphic. Like, who let a group of hormonal pre-adolescents design your attire, Chuy's? If I wanted to be presented with an awkward sexual pun during dinner, I would have hit up a frat house potluck at OU. NO ONE THINKS YOUR JUVENILE T-SHIRTS ARE FUNNY. If I had kids, I would have been embarrassed for them to see that, and I know it made my grandmother very uncomfortable. Not chill, guys. QUESO. IS. LIFE. Like, you cannot go to Chuys and not get the queso. It's got a nice spicy bite to it. Listen, if you're going to eat here, wear your stretchy pants. It's delicious Tex mex, smothered in all sauces and cheese. I'm not a huge fan of the salsa, it's more like a pico but I enjoy the surprise jalapeño seed that makes my eyes water lol. The jalapeño ranch is a fun new addition to dip your chips in, because that's normal right? Right. The Chuychanga is a giant chimichanga. Can't go wrong. The chile relleno is also delicious. My fav is prob the chicka boom boom enchiladas! A creamy spicy sauce with pulled chicken and FRESH TORTILLAS. Hear me people. They make fresh corn and flour tortillas and that makes all the difference. I've also had the chicken salad, or southwest salad or something and it was great but no one really comes here for the salads lol. I don't know why there is only one in Norman and Tulsa, not OKC. Awful food. I order a meal with chicken in it and ended up chomping down on a bone! I asked them for something else and they took the plate back. They were very nice about it. And the manager came out to check. They also comped the meal with the chicken bone which was good. But that really wasn't even the issue. The food is SO bland. It simply has no flavor to it at all. It is fairly highly priced for what you are getting. And the food made all of us sick. So unless your looking to lose weight quick, best to move on and try something else. read more

As most new restaurants on Norman's west side, Chuy's was packed on Saturday even though we got there at 4:00! The service was excellent, and plenty of staff and managers were on duty to cover the needs of a new and popular place. The entrees we had were very good, although not fantastic. I had the Baja Tacos combo (one fish, one shrimp) and they were tasty, but needed more cabbage and sauce in them. Fried fish or fried shrimp were the only choices, unfortunately no grilled option. I appreciated that each Baja taco was 3/4 wrapped in foil, making it easier to handle, since fish tacos are notoriously drippy and fragile. The beans and rice were typical, and I am not a fan of any mashed refried beans. I'd like to see a second choice for beans. My friend had Chuy's house favorite Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, two enchiladas of pulled chicken and cheese in flour tortillas, covered in a flavorful sauce made with cheese, green chiles, tomatillos, green onion, cilantro and lime juice. I'll definitely go back and order that! The chips and salsa, and the warm tortillas we requested, were fair. We tried the hand-made corn and flour tortillas. The corn tortillas were doughy, probably undercooked due to the packed house Chuy's was serving on a Saturday. The salsa was typical, minced-ingredient salsa, but kicked up a notch and quite spicy. We enjoyed it. What Chuy's could improve: The flatware (fork and knife only, where's my spoon?) feels very cheap. Despite arriving at the table in paper jackets like chopsticks come in, printed with a note proclaiming them to be sanitized, my fork had food stuck on it. I enjoyed watching them make blue corn and flour tortillas, but thought the two prep-cooks scooping and hand-forming the dough balls before putting them on the rotating griddles should be wearing food-handler gloves. Must emphasize again, that this location just opened and was packed (20-40 min. wait depending on party size), but the service was top notch and the managers were making the rounds. I rarely eat at Ted's any more because there is always an absurd wait and the food just isn't impressive for the wait or prices. I hope Chuy's gives Ted's some much-needed competition so neither will take Norman residents for granted. I wish them great success! read more

Probably the single worst "meal" we have ever had, definitely in the top 5. Service was terrible. Food tastes like it was straight out of the freezer and canned food isle st the local store. I was really excited when Chuy's opened in Norman because I am a fan of the Chuy's in Dallas off McKinney, but I have been extremely disappointed by Chuy's Norman. I have tried it out on 5 different occasions and I simply do not like it. What is Good: Tortillas, Salsa, Boom-Boom sauce What is Not: The rest of the menu. I have tried the appetizer plate, taco salad, beef and chicken fajitas, steak burrito, Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom and enchiladas. I hope that OKC gets a Mi Cocina soon. Love the atmosphere & during the week they have a queso bar that is really good. Love the margaritas but wish they had more ala cart like a taco because I don't always want a large meal with my drink. Food is just a little blah but will be back for the drinks. Best TEX-MEX in Oklahoma hands down. Great fresh salsa. Ask for the creamy jalapeno. Freshly made in front of everyone tortillas. Guac is chunky, fresh, creamy and delicious. Stacked chicken enchiladas have been my favorite for 20+ year. Food is consistently good whether I'm in Norman OK, Austin TX, Houston TX or KC MO. Great taco salad - any of the salads really. Fresh produce, not that 'white' iceberg lettuce. The Elvis chicken is so good. I love the crunchy potato chip coating. The Elvis Presley Memorial combo is a TON of food- it comes out on 2 plates. Don't say no one warned you LOL. The chicka chicka boom boom sauce is creamy and yummy with a very slight hit of heat. My favorite time of year to go is August when they have the special Hatch green chile dishes. But I would go any day of the week and never turn down Chuy's. The drinks are the bomb. The Dot is my favorite margarita EVER. Great servers, bartenders and all staff. Everyone looks like they love their job. That says a lot to me. Save yourself the disappointment of Ted's and come over to Chuy's. You can thank me later :) If you ever do have any, even a slight issue with anything, the management is fantastic and will make it right. Oh yeah.......the tres leche cake is devine. This restaurant has been hit hard by COVID staffing. The last time we went, everything took way longer than it ever has, then my enchiladas came out with a decent size piece of plastic in them. The manager has to be reminded, as they didn't take it off our receipt, and forgot about apologizing. This time, again, food took forever. Waitress seemed flustered and over worked. Two of our orders came out wrong again. It's just going down hill. And the same manager was there and didn't seem concerned. It will be a while before we give them another chance. Chuy's has been a favorite of mine for over 20 years. I was just in Houston recently and got a chance to get back there. Their queso is to die for, as are their Chili Rellenos (I think I got mine stuffed with shrimp). Go during happy hour and sit in the bar area; have a drink and some free chips and queso self-served from the trunk of an old car! The salsa is great too. They also have something like a tomatillo ranch that's used as a dip or a dressing or a sauce. It's really good. The decor is crazy and fun. And please note all the framed pictures of dogs. She in turn asked what my spice tolerance was, and I told her. She recommended a dish and a change of sauce to cut down on the spiciness. We tried this place after reading Yelp reviews raving about it. It has a cool taco shack vibe so we were hopeful when we were seated. We didn't even finish our plate. It was awful! Very fast service, but we walked away having just picked at our food. The beans were the worst!!! What Mexican restaurant can't make good beans? Just not our thing. Staff needs some help or training. Unfortunately everyone we came into contact with seemed upset to be at work. I understand customer service is hard, and some customers aren't ideal, but it's your job that you applied and signed up to do. The manager James was very helpful and apologetic. One of our favorite local dinner choices. Great for couples, friends and the whole family! Great chips, salsa & queso plus tons of yummy entrees. Don't skip the tres leche for dessert! Not a fan. I'll try to be fair, but we weren't very impressed. Took at least 20 minutes to seat 7 people, then the service was slow, the chips were stale and kinda chewy (ironic?), they asked if we wanted caso but forgot to tell us that it costs extra (7 dollars!?),ended up tasting like burnt velvita, yuck! Atmosphere was meh. I can't rate any of the food other than the tortillas because we ended up leaving. The flour tortillas were very good, and the salsa was spicey but decent. Then when we reported to the manager what she was saying he yelled at us. We had to leave the restaurant while the manager was verbally attacking us.
