So... the drinks were pretty good. The service was awful. Everything was so terribly slow. 65 minutes to serve 3? We never got chips to use with our queso. No plates either. Both were requested and promised. Tough to blame the waitstaff when they're spread so thin by management. Still, they can make an effort to provide an explanation. That being said, it wasn't all service. The tortillas on the enchiladas were undercooked and tasted like cardboard. First time at Chuy's and loved it so very much! I saw so many reviews that were indifferent about their experiences but I was still excited to try. I met a colleague here so that we can catch up. I ate so many chips it's ridiculous, but they were soooo good along with the salsa and ranch like sauce. I ordered a strawberry margarita- 4.75 during happy hour. For my meal I ordered the veggie enchiladas and I can't rave about them enough! The enchiladas were made to perfection. The veggies were so delicious! Our server, Erica, did a great job although she had a very strong cough going on she did well. She ensured that water cups were refilled, as well as ensuring we had chips/salsa. Chuy's has always been a staple in my Tex-Mex diet. I was introduced to the place when I went to UT, and the Katy location offers the same delicious Tex-Mex food! To start of their chips and dip are so good. They usually have a place inside where you can just get your own chips and salsas but now they serve it to you. They win here because of the sheer selection of sauces they offer. From ranch to ranchero you won't be disappointed. Onto the food. Although I wasn't super impressed with their fajita offerings. I do like to get their dishes that are self sufficient on their own such as their burrito and enchiladas. Their loaded burrito was very good and there was a lot of food to go around for the place. I dined at this place on 3/31 at around 1-1:30pm with my grandmother. My only problem, and this is actually a consistent thing because this situation happened the last three times I've visited. The hostess is very unprofessional and out of pocket. I came inside and asked this man for a booth for two people. Tell me why he walked me all the way to the BACK of the restaurant. Passing up empty tables in the front. Mind you, I should've expected this because he has done this every time I've visited. I should've gotten his name because honestly I'm tired. My grandmother is in her 60s so why would you walk us all the way to the back. Are we not good enough to seated in the front? Honestly it's annoying because then I saw another family be seated in the front without hesitation. I'm not trying to insinuate that he places specific people in certain areas but it damn well feels like it. Besides his incompetence . Cruz is an amazing server. I mean he is so hospitable and has a great gift of gab. He genuinely made me feel welcomed and took really good care of us. Truly deserving of all good things that come his way. Chuys y'all are one of my faves but please do something about that host, if seats are empty at the front, don't go and hide the customer in the back corner like we are little kids in time out. Chuy's is a Houston Tex Mex tradition. If you are reading this review then either your a visitor (welcome), new comer (welcome) or you've been living in a cabin in the woods (and I'm hiding behind the couch now). My first visit to Chuy's was in the late 90s when I used to fly into Houston for business. Years later I moved to Houston and raised a family on Chuy's, Ninfas, La Fincas and Los Cucos. We had a rotation. Chuy's is weird. There is a mixed Evis, low rider and pet dog theme decor that can confuse you if your not drinking margaritas. As an aside, Not drinking margaritas at Chuy's is a shame and possibly a misdemeanor inside of Houston city limits. The Elvis Memorial Special is by far the best meal on the menu. You need space for all the food they put in front of you, and it's all great. If not that, try the Southwestern but substitute beef for chicken. T-Shirts are also a must at Chuy's. The restaurant has a collection of comically challenged shirts based on tex mex topics. I have never had a bad meal at Chuy's; but if you want a complaint it's this: they are cheap with napkins. It's become a family joke to see how much effort we need to go through to get one extra napkin from our server. Drinks are all excellent. They have good bartenders with decent pours. I was craving nachos. Since I haven't been to Chuy's in a while, I thought it would be good to go check it out. The Pancho sounded like fully loaded nachos so I had to order it and try it out myself. I was a little disappointed when it came out. The chips definitely were a little hard compared to the regular nacho chips. I also wanted more queso on it. The salsa wasn't as good as the ones for the chip and dip for the app. Overall, I would only come back here for the salsa as to go order, but not for anything else. read more

Our server was very pleasant, but after I saw her inch-long fingernails dip into our pico as she put it on the table, my appetite was pretty much gone. Why not compound one poor decision by making another, you say? Done: I ordered the fish tacos. The fish was translucent when delivered, but I can see why they were afraid to cook it all the way, as the pieces were so thin that they would have immediately been overdone. We also had a Cobb salad that is best described as "adequate". So to recap: empty restaurant on a busy weekend, poor hygiene of server, undercooked fish, meh salad and sides. Chuy's is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants! I love the Jalapeños ranch with chip that they put on the table! The Chuychanga with fajita steak is excellent with Queso. My husband always gets the The Elvis Presley Memorial Combo. They have great drinks. We enjoy going early on a Friday to sit at the bar. The King's Punch, the Black Berry Rita w/ sugar on the rocks and the Perfect Texas 'Tini are our favorite drinks.Staff is great. We also will go with family and our nephew gets a orange push pop with his kids meal. Always a win for the kids, but dips are all on the spicy side for the little ones. read more

This is a great place for happy hour drinks and appetizers. The dips they give you for their chips are phenomenal. It was so good I got on my phone to find a copy-cat recipe. When me and my boyfriend enter this establishment, there were about 4-5 employees standing in the entrance talking. No one didn't try to seat us. One of the female employees said, "We don't sell weed" and walked off! After she walked off, the rest of the employees seem like they didn't want to help us. A girl ended up seating us. The green chile sauce has some kick so if you like heat this is the bomb. My two friends got veggie enchiladas and flautas. Did not sit in Brandon's section but he remembered us and came by to say hi. Will definitely ask to sit in his section in the future. Original visit (never got posted): Sat in Brandy's (Brandon) section last time. Great recommendations on appetizers and entrees. Brandon is very knowledgeable and asked great questions in regards to my food allergies and likes & dislikes. Recommended the queso & boom boom sauce for the appetizer. Got an ice tea for my drink. He mixed it half sweet and half unsweetened. Tasted great. For my entree he recommended the Elvis Presley Fried Chicken that came with a fried egg, rice, beans, and a sliced Avacado. Not a fan of Chuy's approach to COVID. There is a 6% surcharge on all to go orders. They are only supplying 4 ounces of salsa for chips and dip, unless you want to pay for extra. & the most disappointing part for me is I paid extra for a side of boom boom sauce with my tacos and there was none in my order. Sadly during this difficult time for everyone, Chuy's is choosing to nickel & dime their customers so until things get back to normal, I'm no longer a Chuy's customer. read more

A 6% "packaging fee" for curbside pickup???? Of course, we are in the grips of the epidemic scare. Some of us want to help our local businesses and food establishments heartily. But when I tried to call in an order last evening and found there would be a 6% "packaging fee" for curbside pickup... well, I'll spare you the verbiage I spouted out before choosing a local establishment nearby. Fees and surcharges may work for the airline industry but it won't work for Tex Mex in Southeast Texas. All I can say is that all the rhetoric, soothsaying, offers of nnn% coupons and Madison Avenue sweet talk will never change my opinion or make this go away. Been a long time since venturing out to a Chuy's. But last night we did! They currently have a limited menu, but have indoor and outdoor seating. And...margaritas!! Order the chicka-chicka-boom-boom enchiladas. I cannot recall what these were like since it's been awhile, but these actually had some kick! I was quite pleased. The hatch salsa also had a little kick. The food was pretty yum. But what really made this night great was the wait staff. All we're practicing safety protocols but we're pleasant as heck! In the last three years this business has steadily gotten worse and worse. Tonight was the last straw for me. I ordered dinner through DoorDash and food arrived in a timely manner, but the food was not cooked. Chicken was way undercooked or should I say almost not cooked at all. I can understand sometimes food my show up a little cold and you have warm in microwave but this needed to go back in the oven. If I would have wanted to cook I would have not order out. As much as I love Chuy's, primarily the one at Westheimer & Kirby, the Katy Chuy's was not on point during my visit. The salsa was ice cold, and the creamy jalapeño was no better. Chuy's is my wife's favorite Mexican place. The kids and I like it, as well. It's one of the great Tex-Mex restaurants born out of Austin and held solid over the years. The Katy location is convenient off I-10 and Westgreen and has outdoor seating. The decor is quirky and cool. They have a good marketing thing going with funny t-shirts that I wouldn't have any problem wearing. I usually bring a light jacket, as they keep the temperature low to keep the kitchen tolerable. The staff seem to be trained well and keep a steady flow or drinks, chips, salsa and creamy jalapeño coming throughout the meal. The salsa can be hot at times but the creamy jalapeño neutralizes it if that bothers you. The wife loves the quéso, enchiladas and the grilled chicken salad. My favorite is the Baja tacos, shrimp and fish are both excellent, grilled or fried. I try to avoid carbs, which is kinda hilarious considering all the chips I eat, so I get a sautéd veggie mix instead of rice. I don't think it is on the menu but the staff knows what it is. We will get fajitas from time to time, as well. I wish the had more fish dishes, but the food is solid. Stop in, you will like it if you are looking for good Tex-Mex. read more

Crazy atmosphere. Great food and low prices. I've always been a fan of Chuy's. The River Oaks and Richmond locations in Houston were favorite dining spots for my wife and myself in my younger years. First of all, your silverware will come in a "sanitized for your protection" wax bag sealed with an adhesive, colored dot. Have we gone back to the 50s? One of the Houston Chuy's locations has those dots all over its lamps (I think it's the River Oaks location). The restaurant definitely has character. When you walk in, look all around and you will see Chuy's has some of the craziest decorations you can imagine. On our last visit to the Katy location, we sat at a table in a room that has old hubcaps all over the ceiling. The stacked enchiladas are delicious. I also recommend the fajitas...they are made with Shiner Bock beer and come at a decent price. The menu also features daily specials. On our last visit I tried the Saturday special pork enchiladas. They had some good spice and were very tasty. The green sauce at Chuy's is some of the best I have had. I could sit back and make a whole meal out of chips and green sauce. Awesome. He was a very good bartender I almost felt like it was the manager serving me. He was very well mannered, attentive, funny and smart.
