This restaurant holds such a dear place in my heart. I've gone here for years and don't think I've ever had a single negative experience. Anytime I'm back in Houston this is among the top places on my list to revisit. The retro interior design at Chuy's is so fun and creative and just adds to the great experience that I have when I eat here. The staff are also consistently soooo friendly and funny and on several occasions I've had unique and great conversations with them. And last but not least, the food! This place is a must for vegetarians interested in Tex-Mex! The beans are made without lard. My go to is always the big as yo' face bean and cheese burrito with half ranchero and half boom boom sauce. Also do NOT sleep on the creamy jalapeno dip that comes with the table chips! read more

Ordered the combo fajitas and didn't receive none of the condiments to dress them. No lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, or cheese. Driving back to get these would pointless because my fajitas would be cold by the time I return home. When picking up curbside just make sure you check your order. We had our work dinner here on Friday evening at 530 and we were seated pretty quickly. We had a party of 14 and AJ was so helpful and kind. She was very efficient as well. I tried Chuy's a few weeks ago while evacuating for Hurricane Ida and I was disappointed to say the least. Their chicken quesadillas were alright, but their nachos were strange. I just didn't not like how they were a few huge chips individually topped. Their beans on top of the nachos were very gummy and dry and ruined the whole dish. I was grateful to the waitress, however, because she did inform me when a dish may be too spicy. I did not enjoy the salsa, but their other complimentary dish was the one that I did slightly enjoy. The atmosphere was cute and fun and I liked their outdoor seating a lot. Their was also a bug in my water. I am so not the type to call back a dish or complain about something, but I just could not let there be a bug in my water. Review #562 This is my go to Tex-Mex. Yes it is a chain and yes there are more authentic restaurants here in Houston, however I feel you can never go wrong with Chuy's. Chuy's itself is decorated eclectic. Tons of dog photos line the walls, bright colors, the ceiling is lined with hubcaps. There is always something to gaze at if you are having a terrible conversation with the person you came with. Inside and outside seating. Come during rush our and you will have a wait. Parking can be a mess too, so just plan ahead depending when you are going. Happy hour is great. Yummy margaritas, other drinks and chips and queso for all! They have a nice bar to sit at and tables in there bar as well. Kids are more than welcome and you'll see a lot! It's one of the neighborhood place to go. Kids, don't forget to ask for a free push pop after your meal. At least I think they still do that. Doesn't hurt to ask. Their green salsa is my favorite. You'll get both red and green. Chuy's is a Houston staple and is always solid. We come for the creamy jalepeno dip- it's sets them apart. SO GOOD!!! Today I had the tacos Al carbon with steak and it was solid.- Warm tortilla and juicy steak. Margarita were cold and tasty. The queso is always on point. And our server was the best. My friends and I frequently come to chuys for cheap(er) Mexican. There is a huge variation in their margaritas I feel, if you're particular/not short on cash make sure you get top shelf margarita. They have specials which vary by day. It's always the same so you can look this up ahead of time. Their food is decent, it's not the best Mexican in the city but it is still good. One pro of this place is the queso is delicious, it's also free during happy hour in the smaller bowls (go to the bar it's in the open car looking thing). Had dinner here tonight because they had an outdoor dining option. We sat in the picnic table area since there was a long wait for the patio area. I don't think I need to give you the 411 on the steps of being served here. We ordered our food and got our food. I asked for extra napkins and utensils. We didn't have any utensils since no one brought them to our table. I'm assuming this guy is the manager - he comes with our utensils and says "Sorry I know y'all use chopsticks but we don't have any here". I also overheard our waitress call him "Orlando". At this point I'm starving but hearing that VERY OFFENSIVE JOKE made me lose my appetite. I still ate some of the food because I'm not going to waste good food. Let me just say that everything was heavily seasoned with salt. I finished my coke and never got a refill. They have walked by our table several times and no one offered a refill. Orlando stops by while we're waiting for our bill and he's like was there something wrong with this dish? Y'all barely touched it. I said it was too salty. He offered to give us an alternative option. I said no thanks, it's ok. He then offered to give us a discount. He removed that dish from our bill. First off, I love Tex-Mex. Secondly, their chips and green sauce is OTHERWORLDLY. Admittedly, I'm a creature of habit and always get the same thing when I dine there (chicken flautas) but sometimes I'll split fajitas with a friend if they're ever into the idea. Based on food and wait staff service, this is 5 stars for me, easy. The only reason I'm not putting 5 stars is the host staff who can be a little uncomfortable and the booths/ tables inside always have a weird kind of sticky feeling. The host staff (depending on who and what night) kind of just stare at you when you walk up and talk amongst themselves while they wait for you to ask them for something. It's just a little weird. Other than that, I've always had great service once seated and the food always comes out correct. House margaritas on the rocks are better than the frozen because they're not as sweet and you can always upgrade to a top shelf tequila. When in doubt for dining out, I'll always be ok eating at chuys! read more

FYI - ROBBERY HOT ZONE Please be aware robbery's often take place in the Westheimer location of Chuy's. My friends and I went to this location at about 8pm and left at 10pm. My friends car was broken into during that time frame. (Not the fault of the store, the food was good & has a great vibe & the staff came to check it out and gave us bags for the window) just something to be aware of. The back corner of the parking lot has no camera coverage, if I were you I would try to find a parking spot near the front or take anything out of your car that may look valuable. I went in with my boyfriend, we waited about 6 minutes for our waiter to stop by and ask for our drink order. After that, we placed our food order, and I asked for the comida deluxe with chicken fajita in the enchiladas and no chipotle sauce on the flautas. Food comes out in about 10 minutes, there was sauce on my flautas, the meat in the taco was pink, and I took a bite out os my enchiladas and once I did I realized there were cold. I waited for my server Emily to come to the table, and told her my food was cold. She said "not to be a bitch but you'll still have to pay for it since you ate it." It's your basic Tex Mex but usually a pretty good time and good food. We went on cinco de Mayo and definitely a challenge I'm sure with covid handling the amount of people who came out. They practiced safety and masks and all they could which is awesome considering how busy it was. We had a group of 7 but we knew we'd have to wait so we enjoyed drinks from the bar. We dined here after enjoying the Chuys in San Antonio, and were very satisfied. I had their Texas Tini Martini, a bonus as it was featured on Happy Hour. To eat, I had the special hatch chili, chili relleno, which came with a side enchilada. Went to Chuy's since it had been a few years since we had gone and El Tiempo has gone bananas with their prices lately. I had a $12 margarita which was the highlight of dinner. Chips and queso were fine but reminded me of Chili's (minus the beef), the jalapeño ranch is an amazing dip for something more like hot wings, and the salsa was super bland and the only flavor we tasted was spicy. We shared the Elvis Presley combo for $11 which is an insane portion as you can see (the queso dipped fried tortilla is a pointless addition to the platter). The two red enchilada sauces were too bitter and unpleasant and the green sauce with the chicken was fine but the chicken was super dry and only boiled chicken inside--no onion etc to give it flavor or sauce even inside the tortilla. I've never seen such a thing. Huge portion and it's cheap but you do sort of get what you pay for. I'd go back to try the boom boom sauce but am having pretty reserved expectations. This is a different take on Mexican food. We went there on a Thursday night & had a friendly and accommodating hostess. The waitress Anna also was quick with refills & service. The parking was free in a lot next to the restaurant. The margaritas are ok but not strong or big. My reason for the low review is the food. The jalepeno dip that others really like tasted like ranch dressing with some Mexican spices, it was cold. The chips are fresh & light but the salsa also had no flavor. I ordered the boom boom chicken enchiladas & although it was all white meat chicken I did not like it. It tasted like a food not very Mexican but more American. It was my first time coming here and I was impressed. To begin my server she was the sweetest and did suggest option for one of the dishes we chose. I ordered the flautas and they were so delicious! We also ordered the stacked enchiladas which I found the blue tortilla to be pretty cool! Then we ordered a 3rd dish which was a fried flour tortillas stuffed with Chile regent styled chicken. Ahhhh Chuy's - a Houston classic. That is past it's prime. Chuy's started off strong several years ago, but in my eyes has fallen off the deep end. While some of it's most loyal patron's will still fight for it - I don't believe that Chuy's should still be in the discussion for decent Tex-Mex in Houston. Given this place 3 tries the past few months with co-workers, and as much as I wanted to love it, I just didn't. I tried everything from the Green Chili street tacos to the chicken enchiladas to the combo plates, and just couldn't get onboard. Overpriced, poor quality, and far too gimicky for me. If I were you I would keep driving down Westheimer and pull off at one of the many other great Tex-Mex spots within about a mile of here. read more

We used the catering service for a birthday party. I live in San Antonio and arranged everything over the phone with the manager named Chris. We ordered the nacho bar for 25 for a specific time, but had to change it on the day of pickup. Chris was helpful and accommodating to make it work. Prior to pick up, I was sent a link where I could pay for the items in advance, and did so. Upon arrival, I drove up and they brought all of the items to the car within a minute. Yeah, everyone loves the Creamy Jalapeno - did you know that you can purchase it to go? They sell it in (I believe) 8, 16, and 32 ounce to-go containers. When I visit Houston, one of our first stops is always Chuy's, and we get a jar of this to-go, for veggie/chip dip for the next few days. Anyway, I have been going to Chuy's for over fifteen years, and let me say this - they are consistent. The menu isn't trendy... I usually get the chicken burrito w/ deluxe tomatillo sauce. I honestly don't think they have changed that dish in the last 15 years... that would annoy some people, but I like the consistency here. You know exactly what you're getting, and you know that it'll be on the menu next time you're back. The decor is definitely fun, and I've never had a bad experience with the servers. Food arrives quickly and correctly. I do prefer to stop in for lunch since, as others have noted, they get very, very busy during the dinner hour. If you show up on a Friday or Saturday night, expect an hour long wait. The bar is frustratingly small for the overall size of the restaurant, so yeah - you'll probably be waiting outside, which is no fun in the summer. read more
