Lunch Specia l- Sautéed Vegetables w/ Brown Rice
    Alexis M.

Chun Vegetarian is an eatery that we have visited many times as our work environment has been relocated. It is proudly stated on their to-go menu brochures that they use organic fruits & vegetables and I have had nothing but delightful vegetarian dishes that always taste fresh. It is on Nostrand Avenue close to Footprints Cafe (Home of Rasta Pasta), Nostrand Avenue Pizza (have some of the best burgers I have ever tasted) and near a variety of stores, cafes and shops. There are seats to sit in while you wait for your to-go order and you are able to observe the hardworking staff prepare the dishes. The staffperson taking the orders is polite, patient and courteous. It is a very clean and neat establishment. Chun Vegetarian has Starters that includes Crispy Nuggets (made w/ Soy Chicken), Scallion Pancakes, Vegetable Roast Duck, (made w/ pressed bean curd), etc. They also create Soups, Sides, Salads, Vegetables Dishes,, Rice Dishes, Noodle Dishes, Main Dishes, Sandwiches that include their Beyond Burger & Chicken + Beef Sandwiches (created w/ Seasonal Greens + Avocado), Desserts that include Soy Ice Cream, Soy Shakes & Vegan Cakes, Juices & Smoothies. The Lunch Specials at Chun Vegetarian are near and dear to my heart & stomach (lol) and we have had them numerous times. The Lunch Specials ($8) are available from 12pm-4pm and they are the following: Mango Soy Protein Chicken Terriyaki Chicken Broccoli Curry Chicken Sesame Chicken General Tso's Chicken Tangerine Beef Boneless Rib Sauteed Mixed Vegetables Tofu w/ Mixed Vegetables One can choose to have their lunch entree combo served w/ Brown Rice or White Rice and either Miso Soup or Hot & Sour Soup or a Spring Roll. The Chicken Terriyaki, Sesame Chicken and the Sauteed Mixed Vegetable Lunch Entrees are absolutely delicious! I have had Brown Rice everytime and both the Miso Soup and Spring Rolls are fabulous. It is nice to patron an establishment that has great quality dishes and it is a win-win to be able to have that for lunch for $8 which is a great price. Chun Vegetarian Website- chunvegetarian.com Hours of Operation- Open Everyday Except Tuesday. Mon., Wed. & Thurs. - 11:30am -10:30pm Fri. & Sat. - 11:30am -11:30pm / Sun. 12pm-10:30pm. Sesame chicken with broccoli & fried oyster mushroom with some peppers

The picture doesn't do it justice - it's definitely a healthier option it's a lighter sauce on the sesame which I did not mind I actually loved it paired with fluffy delish brown rice - added some of my own spicy Asian garlic sauce. And we got the fried oyster mushroom friend in batter but you tasted the mushroom and it's paired with a side of very spicy peppers you can avoid those if spice isn't your thing also honey mustard was on the side and it definitely paired well!

Wow my new lunch take out spot! Such a good deal for $8! Called at 11:45am for takeout and picked up 15 min later. I got the sesame "chicken" with brown rice and a spring roll. Everything was solid, flavors were good. I wish the chicken was a little softer and that there was more broccoli, but not a big problem. Will definitely try the other specials and soup next time! They have super limited seating indoors (1 or 2 tables?) so definitely better for takeout.

I had a taste for sesame "chicken" without all that extra doughy stuff and I remembered seeing this spot from the summer. It was a welcome surprise for weekend lunch specials. The ambiance is what makes this a great place. Simple, clean, modern decor, with calm contemporary music and friendly employees. The food itself was okay, spring roll was more of a egg roll hybrid with a slightly sour flavor of old cabbage. Move on to the entree, the "chicken" was a old school version of well seasoned and sauced, heavy, fake meat. I think I'll try something else next time.

I ordered delivery through the Seamless app for dinner last night. The food is pretty tasty and clean. I ordered the hot and sour soup, beef with broccoli and the diced vegetable fried rice. All of it was tasty although the fried rice needed a little pep so I added some white pepper to it and it was perfect! I definitely recommend this place if you're in the mood for some Chinese food. The quality of the vegetables were so good. Reminds me of the produce I used to get when I lived in Los Angeles. Delivery was quick and the delivery guy was kind with no attitude. Great Job Chun Vegetarian!

SO delicious and takeout was quick and the staff were very friendly. I got sesame "chicken" and veggie fried rice and they were both delicious and tasted so fresh. The serving sizes are also generous (the entree and rice make about 2-3 meals if not more) so the prices feel very fair/affordable for the amount and quality. The restaurant is also clean and stylish so I look forward to dining in. This is a great place for delicious and plant-based food, can't wait to try more of the menu.

It was a good portion, enough for one to finish. The lentil soup was on the saltier side, and the potatoes with string beans tasted a little fishy. But, altogether, everything was an interesting mix. I felt like I was eating a mix of Chinese- and Indian-inspired food. The mustard greens reminded me of Chinese fare, while the touch of spicy chutney reminded me of Indian cuisine. After the main meal, I tried their fried green tea ice cream. The dessert was beautifully presented, and tasted as I would have expected: a touch of bitterness from the green tea ice cream, covered in batter. While the food was maybe a 4, the ambiance was easily a 5. The artwork was breathtaking! Whoever commissioned the artwork did a great job. At night, they dim the lights and add (fake) candles, so the artwork stands out even more, and the ambiance feels soothing. Service was good. The owner was very accommodating. It's a beautifully designed space, and we went in the evening so it was dimly lit and had good tunes, contributing to an intimate and cool vibe. The service throughout was good both by our primary server and the rest of the team that was bringing out dishes. For the food, we did not feel that it was a strong start, but the ending was great! The first dish to come out was their cornbread, which we agreed was very light and had a super tender texture, but there was just nothing special about the taste profile to us. The second dish were their prawns. We couldn't put our finger on the off-putting flavor in there, but we agreed that something just wasn't right and almost tasted spoiled. You also had to work a bit to dissect the prawns and remove the heads and skin. To work for it and then not enjoy the taste wasn't a great combo for us, unfortunately. It started turning around with their sweet potatoes, a type I'd never had before that were "baby" and purple on the outside while white inside. They served the potatoes with a gorgeously whipped Greek yogurt that added the exact right amount of tang to balance the sweet potato and the herby topping. The stars of the night were the coconut basmati rice and the lamb shank. My goodness! The rice dish was so complex from a flavor and texture profile and just hit all the right notes for us, and that lamb! Definitely one of the best lamb dishes I've had - Impossibly tender and seasoned to perfection. One other note I'll make regarding drinks is that they did not have a strong wine list. I ended up ordering a red, but later heard our waiter recommend against getting their wine to another table and suggesting their cocktails and mocktails instead. Just something to keep in mind if you're a wine lover!

Some of the items inside look like they're either for sale or just meant for display, which is fine, but I feel like it distracts from the main purpose, which is serving food and being a comfortable resting spot. It's no fault of the place, but the vibe is a mix of reggae, African folk music, and incense, and it contrasts sharply with the environment outside. There's an Italian restaurant across the street blasting Frank Sinatra type music, so the clash is noticeable. I feel like maybe the sound could be adjusted or balanced somehow. As part of the promotion, I ordered the vegan lentil soup. It was okay, nothing special but not bad. Then I was served an iced chai latte, and most of the spices sank to the bottom under the ice. After I swirled it, the spices still didn't have much flavor. It wasn't strong or pungent, and you couldn't really taste the spices or feel any of the digestive benefits chai is usually known for. It didn't taste like tea; it was just mildly sweet. I could see myself drinking it with a dessert, but it didn't stand out on its own. The service was friendly. I hope this place the best and want it to succeed but it needs to literally clean up.
