My wife cousin invited us to dinner at Chulita in Venice to get away the heat and feel coolness of breeze from ocean not far away from the restaurant. When we arrive at the restaurant we notice people waiting outside the restaurant waiting for a table or meeting other people to get together at the restaurant. Finding parking in this tight Venice community can be frustrating due the neighborhood and also businesses in surrounding area. When we got to the restaurant we seen there's a line to get a table hostess say it's about an hour but she we sit by the patio with the great view of the street and everyday life. Sitting at the patio was very nice with the crowd noise from inside the restaurant. The waitess hand us the menu and look at it see what fuzzy about this restaurant. We look around and smelling the amora of the food that people enjoying it. We looking at the menu my wife cousin decided to order the Barbacao tacos with Borracho black beans and my wife order the chicken tings quesadilla and I got the cheese quesadilla. We notice everybody is having a good time with family and friends enjoy the food. Our food arrived it looks so good I took a bite of the chees quesadilla I was very impressive with the level of flavors in quesadilla the sauce is amazing full of flavor is classic technique to make the sauce go along with quesadilla. The queso Oaxaca add it more intense,savory to the dish I love. My wife fell love with chicken tinga quesadilla say flavors brought harmony to the dish very much. Her cousin enjoy her Barbacao tacos but her Borracho black beans were to salty but enjoy the meal. We order the pumpkin spice churro it's vegan/gluten-free dessert we're surprise how good was it so much flavor. My friend and I came here on cinco de mayo, so it was very busy. We managed to get a seat at the bar, which was in large part due to the hostess. Bar seating is first come, first served. Because it was a busy night, it was difficult to order. The bar staff was slammed which is understandable. We ordered the guacamole which came out in minutes. I love the chips that come with it. They're bigger, so you break them apart to eat. We also ordered the tacos, since it was taco Tuesday and cinco. I ordered the barbacoa and tinga tacos. They were messy. Literally juiced flowing down my wrist. But delicious at the same time. I hate messy food, so that was the only unpleasant part. Chulita is a must-visit in Venice! I've been twice now--once for dinner and once for brunch--and while both were amazing, brunch stole the show. The atmosphere and vibe are inviting, and the food quality and presentation are incredibly high-end. It feels fancy and upscale without the crazy prices or pretentious attitude. I've been coming to this restaurant for quite some time, and it continues to be one of those places that never disappoints. The food, service, and overall atmosphere always make for a great experience. I especially noticed a difference in the food after Chef Carlos joined the team. Everything feels so thoughtfully prepared, with great flavor and attention to detail. He definitely deserves recognition for the quality he brings to the kitchen. Wonderful dinner at our last night in Venice for the Winter Break. We had later resy and they were able to accommodate us when we arrived early. Sat in the front patio with heaters. Started with chips, salsa and guac. Loved the whole tortilla chip, break it yourself type thing. We all had drinks mine of course with Mezcal and Hibiscus. The seasonal marg was apricot - delicious! On a rainy day and although Chilita in Venice has a beautiful patio, I made my way to this restaurant on Rose Avenue after attending a Venice artist studio open house. The outdoor patio was closed and I sat comfortably inside facing the large, beautiful bar and indoor dining area. It was a Sunday so they handed me a brunch menu along with the regular menu and dessert menu. Chilita's offers a Novo Mexican cuisine that is both familiar and populated by vegan/GF offerings with unique sauces. I ordered the following: QUESADILLA Heirloom Corn Tortillas, Queso Oaxaca, Pipián de Calabaza, Crema, Avocado Salsa + ADD BARBACOA PUMPKIN PIE SPICED CHURROS Vegan/Gluten Free Pumpkin Pie Spiced Churros, Almond Milk, Salted Coconut Coffee Caramel Sauce The Quesadillas came three fold and with such a delicious wet sauce that each bite with the barbacoa was smilingly tasty. I ate 2/3rds and took one home which allowed for another meal and for me to eat the special pumpkin churros with caramel sauce that probably is meant for 2 but somehow didn't have a chance for my gluttony. I took my time savoring these strips of light GF dough with a caramel sauce that could make a jalapeno sing with sweetness. As a proud Mexican, I was really disappointed by my experience here. From the moment we walked in, we felt unwelcome. We waited about 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us, and once we were seated, the service felt rushed, as if they wanted us in and out rather than making us feel like valued customers. The person I was dining with and I both left feeling disrespected. The food was decent, but nothing memorable. I've had much better Mexican food at small family-owned restaurants, and honestly, even my parents make dishes with more flavor and authenticity. If you're looking for average Mexican food, this place might meet your expectations, but it didn't meet ours. Ironically, the nicest part of the restaurant was probably the bathroom. This is a fave of ours, came here for my birthday weekend. We got guac to start, then shared the quesadilla with barbacoa, pescado taco, barbacoa taco, and hanger steak taco for our mains which were all so good. The pescado wasn't my favorite, but that's because it had a spicy sauce that wasn't my personal favorite but my boyfriend said this was his favorite one! I would skip this next time. 5/5 - Vegan Chocolate Pudding: dark chocolate pudding with a delicious raspberry topping and a nice little crumble for added texture. Enjoyed the West Adams location so much, we had to check out the Venice location! Cocktails were delicious, I can't remember the name of mine atm but it had cucumber juice in it-- thought it was well balanced and refreshing! Had their sea bass dish for dinner and LOVED the char on the fish. The cauliflower puree it rested on was a wonderful creamy texture, and the greens balanced out the dish over all. They had a handful of vegan options, so it's very plant friendly. There was a different dessert option in this location from their West Adams (not pictured), which was the churros vs the tres leches waffles we enjoyed previously -- the dipping sauce was water-y in texture and kept dripping all over my clothes, and the churros themselves were not all consistent in their crunch/chewy dough ratio. It's a preference thing at the end of the day, so maybe that's your jam! Our bartenders were awesome, SALSA IS BOMB. Loved that the guacamole wasn't salty like I find it to be in most spots visited. I thought they were average; my husband enjoyed the taquitos because he's a big sweet potato fan. I tried a fish taco and a vegan carnitas taco - both were good.
