Chuck's Bar-B-Que in Opelika, AL
J T.

Everything happens for a reason... Meeting runs an hour late in Auburn - which means flight out of Atlanta is missed and now there is actually time for a meal. Pit-stop at Wendy's, but a huge thunderstorm knocks out electric, so no food there. About 30 minutes east of Auburn is the Opelika exit and lo and behold, a Wendy's sign, but alas its a bait-and-switch and once you get off the exit a sign tells you that Wendy's is 1.6 miles down the road, but guess what...before you get there, you come to Chuck's Bar-B-Que. A mostly brick building with almost no windows and a large chimney out the back and in Opelika Alabama - one answer - check it out! The inside of the restaurant is basic. The menu is basic. Everything is basic...that means the focus here is on meat. There is a small variety of product, including chicken and ribs, but its obvious the priority is pork and it comes in two forms - chipped and chopped. Chipped is shredded and in the sauce and chopped is as it sounds, chopped and then sauce dolloped on over the top. I had chopped and it was great. I found a pdf interview with the owner on the web: http://www.southernbbqtrail.com/images/Chuck%20Ferrellpdf.pdf Chuck is a guy who takes his bar-b-que seriously. Like I said - everything happens for a reason. I love bar-b-que and respect the art. Did I come to Chuck's through luck...or fate...Everything happens for a reason. 5 stars because its real good and because we must protect and encourage those independent contractors who are bold enough to create their own brand, unique product and great eats - and not just decide to buy a Wendy's franchise.

Very popular place. Picked up some good lunch when we were in town. Lots of barbecue and sides to choose from.

Best ribs I have ever had! Mustard based bbq sauce is not what I am used to, but it was so good with these ribs!

Truly an amazing mix of nature and food in this wonderful, picturesque spot out in Opelika/Auburn…read more A must visit every time we're in town with fresh food, great service, and wonderful greenery and lakefront views that make this more than just a restaurant. We came in for lunch service and had some time to enjoy the greenhouse and walk around the beautifully maintained property. Once our table was ready, we were promptly greeted by our server Noah who did an excellent job walking is through the food and drinks. He was a really nice guy and we had some great conversation with him. Our food came out fast and was absolutely delicious and fresh. We got the pimento cheese appetizer with fresh chips and it was a crowd pleaser, especially with the addition of Wickle's pickles (which we had to get a jar of at Publix before heading home). I had the smash burger and it went great with the beer I ordered as well. Very tender and the fries went along perfectly with it. My friends got the grilled cheese and also the chicken picatta and everything was so hot and fresh. A very cozy and heartwarming afternoon lunch on a beautiful day. To wrap up, we visited the outdoor chicken barn to hang with the chickens and other wildlife. A great place to be!

If you have never had Korean food with traditional "appetizers" I highly recommend chickchickporkpork. The food is absolutely fantastic! The prices are extremely fair for the quality and quantity you get. The sign in front is a bit small, so pay attention as you get close. You will be pleased you chose to come, whether for lunch or dinner. For the especially finicky eater, you will find a luxury of fried chicken options to choose from. Come with an open mind, and you will leave with a full belly and plenty of good memories.

We didn't drink, but they do have a good variety of alcoholic drinks. The lunch special seems like a really good deal. We ended up getting the chick chick chilly chilly mayo. I really enjoy that they bring out a water jug for self service and do wish more restaurants would do that since I drink a lot of water. It is not to far from campus and definitely worth the drive. It's perhaps not in the most fun location being off pepperell pkwy but large indoor seating available. Should be good for big groups as well, never took a big group here but seems like they have the space. Parking lot has spaces but not a good lot. Lots of potholes and some big ones at the entrance.

My mom and I grabbed lunch here because we needed to update her phone and they have good wifi (from…read morewhat my nephew told me). She had a half chicken salad sandwich and country potato soup while I had the turkey club and the tortilla soup. All the food came out as ordered and was very tasty. I could only finish half my sandwich, it was so big. My soup was properly spicy, moms was rich and chunky. The only problem was in trying to pay with anything other than cash. The cashier kept saying "It's on our end," but after trying ApplePay with my watch as well as the physical card, I was worried I would have to wash dishes, so I just resorted to coin of the realm. That seemed to work OK, but it was so long that I just told them to keep the change. We got mom's phone updated and synced her Apple Watch to it without any hiccoughs. She enjoyed the visit quite a bit!

This location appears to have a serious inventory management problem…read more We purchased the advertised Tea Pass, which promises a 32 oz tea per day for 30 days after purchase. However, on multiple visits, we've arrived only to find that the location has run out of the cups needed to fulfill that offer. Instead, they're serving tea in small 8-10 oz coffee cups, which is obviously not what customers are paying for with the Tea Pass. We've also made multiple trips specifically to get baked potatoes, only to be told they're out. While I can understand occasionally running out of a particular food item, repeatedly running out of something as basic and essential as drink cups is much harder to excuse. What makes this even more frustrating is that this location rarely appears particularly busy. We drive past it every day, sometimes multiple times a day, and it's not as though we're seeing a restaurant constantly packed with customers struggling to keep up with demand. Cups aren't some specialty ingredient or limited-time menu item. They're a fundamental supply needed to serve one of the most commonly ordered items on the menu. When a restaurant can't consistently keep something that basic in stock, it points to a significant problem with inventory planning and management. McAlister's advertises products and promotions that customers expect to be able to enjoy when they visit. Management needs to take a closer look at how this location handles inventory and basic operational supplies. Customers shouldn't have to repeatedly deal with these kinds of preventable shortages.
