Chuck-A-Rama is a place that has a lot of good will with me after a lifetime of eating there with family. It has done a far better than average job of maintaining consistent quality over the years. I mean this in regards to its category. It is and pretty much always has been at the top of the family buffet category. I think their quality is a byproduct of being a UT company. Most of the food there is made with more love than food from other places because the bulk of the population loves food, don't drink and thus won't accept food that has to be propped up with a good buzz. The food is nearly always fresh and tasty and the service friendly. I will say that if I'm eating at a buffet, I don't want to have to wait around for a server to come around and refill my drink at all and they've changed their service so you kind of have to do that now. I find this annoying. It's not that they're not friendly and helpful, it's just that I don't want to wait and the fact that I do now compels me to tip when I'm having a less satisfying experience than I had in the past. read more

The food is great. The servers are GREATER! Seriously they are so busy and packed 100% of the time but the servers are quick, attentive, and beyond friendly. They get drinks for us even though they're self serve, they helped when my son dropped his plate in the middle of a high traffic area and didn't make us feel terrible (in fact she bent down and told him that accidents happen and usually grown ups drop their ice cream/plates/drinks/etc. Best of all? SLUSHY MACHINES! Seriously, the all you can eat ICEEs rock hardcore! Typical buffet, salads, meats, desserts. They were a little stingy with the meat cuts, they would slice them paper thin, even asking to give me a thicker cut it was not much thicker. You need to keep going back and back and back to get a fill on the meat. The rest of the food was pretty good. Let the waiter/waitress earn their tips, they will bring you drinks. read more

It's nice the buffets are open but i fixed a plate of salad and as I was eating it my granddaughter ask what that black thing in it. It was a dead fly. Chuck A Rama has really increased in popularity for me in the last couple of years. It's always neat and clean outside and inside, the food is always great, fresh and hot. The waiters and waitresses also pay attention 100% of the time to their sections, tables, and customers. Lunch time is generally slower, and less expensive than the dinner time of course. I am writing to you to express my complete disgust with the service at your South Ogden restaurant. I called ahead of time to ask about a take out meal and was assured that yes, I could receive a box and go through the buffet once. After waiting half an hour in line, I was then informed that there was no such option and I should instead go to Golden Corral. While I am not sure how this policy change occurred in the time from phone to cashier, approximately forty minutes. I can assure you that my family's three or more visits a year will indeed go to Golden Corral. I don't even care if they don't do take out, just that they don't misrepresent their product and service. My attempt to contact the manager, Cory, was met with "We're very busy now try back later". I will not try back later, nor will I spend anymore family birthday dinners or Mother's Day dinners or other occasions where my family gathers with my mother, who generally wins the request for where we go. read more

One of the best buffets I've been to. Even on the chaotic busy night our server was kind and attentive. Price was good we are a family of five and spent under $40 two children were free! Lots of yummy options and everyone had something they liked. Say what you want but they must be doing something right. The place is packed every time I go there. Someone there knows how to make soup. They make an excellent tomato and basil soup , it has just the right amount of basil and heavy cream to give it a smooth rich taste. I got my own drinks and I got pretty fed up with the supposed server coming to my table with the "dirty dish bucket" that's disgusting. Also your bathrooms looked like a horror movie but was cleaned right away after I let someone know, not that it helped the feel of it much. I liked the Boston cream cake and my husband really liked the Mexican salad type food. My 3 year old really liked the mac n cheese though it didn't seem like it had the real cheese in it like the commercial claims. The food was acceptable the general cleanliness was atrocious and I found a bug crawling all over my table before we left, that didn't suprise me much considering the feel was that of a restaurant in a box in some alley. read more

My brother thought I would be too ashamed to write a review of this place but a dive is a dive, some just have better food than others. We hit this place twice a year for a huge family dinner about 40 to 50 people and eat like crazy, having spent about 12 years in Las vegas I've built up a tollerance to buffet food. The food is actually pretty decent but I have no Idea how much it costs to eat here. I should be obvious what you're getting into when you come here. A buffet is a buffet. I don't feel let down but I guess that's because my expectations weren't super high. Even though there is an unlimited amount amount of helpings I've always thought it was too expensive for the quality of food. Maybe if you're in a Fun with Dick and Jane, Jim Carry financial situation the whole family could eat for the price of one? First off I should let you know that I am not very fond of buffet style restaurants because you get more food but it is lower quality. With that said this chick a Rama is actually pretty good. Our extended family met up for a trip to chuck-a-Rama. It was seafood night and they has dried butterfly shrimp, baked salmon, fish and chips and clam chowder. The food was much better than your average buffet. Some of my favorite items were their homemade butter rolls, sticky buns, the shrimp their root beer on tap. The only thing that could have been improved was the seating capacity. It took a little too long to be seated. All in all, I would return. read more

This is better than any other buffet I've eaten. The food and service were both great! Our server stopped by way more than we needed and made sure to keep our table clean. All the food exceeded my expectations. At a buffet, you cannot expect the food to be completely fresh but the food here was barely a step down from that. The portions seemed a little smaller so they refilled with fresh food more often. Everything I ate tasted real and home-cooked. I was particularly surprised by the turkey roast. The meat was tender and flavored just enough (not too salty). I also recommend grabbing a few scones and trying them with both the honey butter and brown sugar butter. Every dessert looked homemade like grandma made it herself - delicious and carefully dressed. I scooped a piece of almost every dessert. Overall, I would recommend Chuck-A-Rama to anyone looking for a large amount of home-cooked food. Food was typical, good, buffet food, which I like occasionally, but I had an encounter with the wait staff that totally ruined my meal. The server turned a situation into something it didn't need to be. You are at Chuck a Rama so you generally let things slide, however, I wanted to point out what happened, to the floor manager, because it was so weird. When I did, I got the same attitude as the waitress, which wasn't pleasant. I will never eat there again. I know this isn't going to change a thing, but writing this review made me feel a little better. I am kind of in awe of the way the whole thing came down. Wishing you better luck than me. read more
