My wife decided to go have breakfast there with my daughters, one of which is special needs autistic. My 5 year old autistic daughter likes to stack things sometimes, that's how she stims to help regulate herself. So she was stacking some of the sealed jelly packets that were on their table. She was just gently stacking NOT throwing or smashing or being playing rough. So then this head waitress or manager (Hispanic woman wearing all black and black apron) idk what she was, comes over and rudely tells my wife to tell my daughter not to be playing with the condiments because now they're going to have to be thrown in the garbage. It made my wife and my daughter feel like dirt. I'm sorry my daughter was not bothering anyone, she wasn't opening the sealed jelly packets or making any noise. Chubbies is a "family restaurant" and should not treat people this way. I hope this person gets some sensitivity training but we will not be going back. There are too many good restaurants out there for us to deal with this crap. read more

I met an old friend here for lunch on their recommendation, and found the interior comforting and somewhat vintage. I'm in a powered wheelchair and they had no issue seating me somewhere comfortable. I ordered the, "Classic Greek Salad" (with Gyro meat; there were options). This was, "Crisp tossed salad, topped with feta cheese, black olives, tomatoes and pepperoncini. Served with pita bread and your choice of our homemade dressing.". This was also served with some flatbread. Unfortunately, they forgot the gyro meat in my salad, and I was already halfway through before I realized it. They didn't charge me for the gyro meat, but I was disappointed as I was hoping to have a greek dish. With the gyro meat it was just a regular salad. I also ordered the, "Rio Grande Skillet", which was, "Tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, diced potatoes, bacon, sausage, corn chips & cheddar cheese, scrambled with eggs and served with pinto beans and hot sauce.". I thought this was quite good. The service was good, other than not getting my order quite right, and the portions were large. Overall, a good experience. read more

The only thing missing were milkshakes. I'm sure there could've been a work around. When I Googled this place in advance, the two descriptors were diner and Greek food. In Dallas? Why not! You have your Tiffany lamps overhead, plenty of booths and size-able interior. Service was on it. Food arrived relatively quickly. Fried batter tasted fresh. Flavor was a little on the mild side. I'd say have them bring you hot sauce, if need be. Menu- there's a little of everything. Brace yourself. Went with some fan favs- fried protein and pie. My friend ordered the gumbo. I'll have to make a return for the Greek noms. Lots of parking in the retail lot. Enjoy this family gem! read more

Can't believe this place has been around for nearly 40 years and I've just heard about it. I do live on the other side of town but have frequented the arboretum and White Rock park, which are nearby, many times. Arrived at 11:00 on Sunday to a 15 minute wait. Impressed that hostess greeted many patrons by name. By the time we were seated there were 30-40 people waiting! This reminds me of Mama's Daughters or Norma's home cooking type places. I really prefer Mama's but Chubby's is a close second. I think Norma's is terrible. I judge these types of places by two things: can they fry at proper temperatures and can they season properly. I had chicken fried steak, okra and mashed potatoes and gravy. Frying was excellent - crispy and zero grease on steak and okra. Potatoes and gravy needed a bit more seasoning. There is a large breakfast ( served anytime) menu and a variety of meat and two sides, sandwiches, Greek and Italian options also. There is a 5 vegetable plate for the bargain price of $10.50. Menu is very large and I'm looking forward to exploring. Large dessert case in lobby - homemade pies and cakes. We took home German chocolate and coconut pie. Pretty tasty. Oh and if you're a coffee cup nut like my husband a Chubby's souvenir cup is $3.99!! And yes he came home with one. read more

We have been here probably 20 times maybe more over the years. They have wonderful breakfast and lunches. I've never been there for dinner. It's a good ole home cooking restaurant. Huge menu! All the breakfast dishes are excellent. One of my favorites is their Eggs Benedict. Also the corned beef hash with fried egg is so good. Lots of wait staff so the service is always very good. I will not be returning to Chubby's. My sister purchased a $50 as a gift for me at Christmas. I just tried to use it was refused. There had been some issue with their gift cards so they cancelled all cards that had not been used. Very clever. Sell a $50 gift card, then cancel it and keep the money. Wow. Chubby's has been around forever and it's always a decent option if you're craving traditional diner food. The omelettes, burgers and chicken fried steak aren't the best but they're far from the worst and the prices are good for the portion size. read more

Even though I complained to one of the new owners more than once and the wait staff numerous times. The food has gotten less than tasty and the amount of food given has shrunk to half the size. This restaurant is no longer worth your money. As for ambiance, there is none. Except for Sunday mornings and brunch a table is always available. Absolutely great place! Went there with my roommates after work, and very happy we did. The staff was really friendly and kept checking in on us. The owner chatted with us for a while and told us all about him and his creation of this place. Food was quite delicious, good temp and great flavor. I had the breakfast chicken fried steak, with some of the potatoes (that they only serve on Monday). Saved some room for chocolate cake, it was worth it. Will 100% be coming back! read more

Tasty Comfort Food in Laid-Back Atmosphere with Great Service Visited for the first time tonight and while I expected "greasy spoon", it was anything but greasy. It was VERY clean and cozy. This is totally our jam - I'm a 40-something totally over the sports bar thing and would prefer to go out some place casual, clean, quiet, and friendly. This was the ticket! We had the chicken fried steak and the pot roast. It is quite similar, though not quite the same as the legendary East Dallas "Dixie House". The sides and mains will be very familiar to those who remember! The cornbread was also perfect. Light, fluffy, and only as sweet as fresh corn. I love that I can still order the Gyro Omelette even though it's no longer listed on the menu. We mainly come here for breakfast, but then they serve breakfast all day which suits me. Classic breakfasts come with plenty of food, so one is hard pressed to leave hungry. Others I dine with here sometimes get lunch or dinner and have always seemed satisfied. We usually go in the weekend, and the crowd trends silver or gold with younger family members at times. The other main demographic is families. Prices are still pretty reasonable even though they've gone up like everyone else. Service. It's usually quick and efficient. If you are a weekly (or more) regular, the servers remember your name and your order. Occasionally, it can be less than perfect and that's okay. Once, and only once, we heard three servers argue over who would HAVE to serve us. Clearly, no one wanted to do so. So we took care of it and left. We didn't go back for over a year. Anyone can have a bad day or be ready to go home or who knows, but don't gripe and grumble and argue in front of the customer. We've been eating there again for a at least a year, and all is well, but we will probably never forget the once negative experience. But we gave it another shot and we are glad we did. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service. I walked into the restaurant to have dinner with my mother, nephew and 2 sons (2yrs and 5 mon) and asked for a table for 5 with a sling, preferably a booth. They seat us in a booth and then leave, so im standing there waiting for the sling which never comes. Then the hostess comes and asks if something is wrong and I say I'm just waiting for the sling. She tells me, oh well you can't have one in the walkway. Okay, you just sat us here and now you're telling me I can't sit here? I was honestly confused because its not like I picked that table out of the restaurant or something. She goes and gets the "manager" who tells me that babies can't be in walkways because they could get hurt. I again tell her, your hostess just sat us here, im not sure why this is an issue and this woman looks at me and says "did you not understand? Your baby can't be in a walkway?" I honestly can't believe how rude she was and called herself a manager at that. I got my family and left and told them,if it was such an issue, the hostess needs to not seat people in places they are apparently not allowed to sit. I've been to Chubby's at least three times, most notably on a Thursday morning in May. The family-style restaurant tends to be a hit-or-miss, but I've never had a "bad" experience there. The staff is lovely. Everyone is so kind and attentive. The restaurant and bathrooms are also clean. As for the food, this is where the inconsistencies come into play. I always order from the breakfast menu. Most recently, I ordered the Chubby's Breakfast special with two over-easy eggs, two pancakes, hash browns and a side of fruit instead of the meat (I'm vegetarian). The pancakes are not your typical large ones. They're about 6-inches across, which really, for me, is the perfect size. The hash browns were pretty undercooked though and the fruit cup was just a cup of cantaloupe; many of the pieces were green. I ordered orange juice to drink and it was extremely watered down. Truthfully, if this had been my first experience at the restaurant, I don't think I would return. However, I've eaten before here before, so I'll be back. read more

I've been eating at Chubby's since 1989. I always enjoyed the food until about 6 months ago. The mashed potatoes have no flavor unless you put gravy on them and they're way too lumpy. The broccoli rice casserole is gross. Maybe they need to change the picture of the dish on the menu because it looks nothing like the picture. I've tried both sides multiple times thinking it was a fluke that they were bad but they are still bad. I won't waste my time trying them again. The last 4 times we have gotten food to go, either the order was wrong and/or items were missing. Not quite sure what the problem is but it needs to be corrected. Hopefully soon. read more

Our server Teresa was excellent five star plus cannot recommend this place highly enough. Choice of so many options for eating are extensive. Super clean, great service, pie selection amazing. Fresh home-cooked food daily. John and his wife the owners have been at this location 35 years providing the community wonderful food in a clean and comfortable atmosphere.
