I loved it. The curry itself is, alongside the spice, delicious. The pork tonkotsu I got on top went perfectly with it, and there was an option for small or regular rice. I got a small, but it didn't even feel like less. I don't eat too much rice so it was nice anyways. My friends got the Udon and Keema curry. I didn't try either of them, but they seemed satisfied. Nice iPad ordering system, food took a while but overall the vibe was good, busy. I absolutely need to come back here and work my way up the spice scale.

My friend really enjoyed his meal too. I think I made a new fan of Japanese curry and Coco Ichibanya. If I'm back up in the area, I'm stopping by again. Go check this place out If you haven't, and go again if you have.

Outstanding Service, Great Food, and Fantastic Hospitality!…read more Dining at Koi on La Cienega is always a treat, but this visit truly stood out because of the top-tier management and staff. A huge thank you to the manager on duty, who handled a situation with other disruptive guests so smoothly and attentively. He went out of his way to relocate us to a better available area so we could fully enjoy our dinner without missing a beat--that level of care and hospitality deeply appreciated! Beyond the stellar management, the food and drinks were absolute perfection: * Sashimi & Appetizers: The yellowtail jalapeño and seared albacore carpaccio were exceptionally fresh, dressed with rich ponzu sauces and delicate toppings. The shishito peppers and avocado dishes were incredible starters as well. * Craft Cocktails: The signature martini garnished with a fresh orchid flower was bright, balanced, and perfectly crafted. * Dessert: We ended the meal with their warm crêpes topped with caramelized apples, candied pecans, and vanilla ice cream--it was decadent, delicious, and beautifully presented. The beautiful ambiance, high-quality sushi, and above-and-beyond hospitality make Koi a classic La Cienega staple.

My four-year-old Wade B. is obsessed with udon these days, so I took him and his nanny Blanca A. to…read moreKochi a couple weeks ago when he was out of school. The place was quiet on a Friday after 1:00, and we were able to park right in front and grab a table in a mostly empty restaurant. The space was pleasant, small and homey, with art on the walls. Service was fast and super friendly. Our server was helpful and sweet with Wade, who behaved himself, mostly because he was occupied with udon. He got a plain kid's udon, just the noodles and soup, and he slurped it right up. It came with a side salad of mixed greens with fried onion in a gingery Japanese dressing. He didn't touch it, but I thought it was quite tasty. I got the mentai combo, a $25 lunch special with a small bowl of mentaiko udon and choice of beef or spicy tuna bowl. The udon was delicious, slippery and chewy in a creamy, slightly spicy mentaiko broth, finished with more mentaiko and kizami nori. I opted for the spicy tuna bowl, and this hit the spot, a heap of spicy tuna over rice, served with soy sauce. Blanca got the deluxe curry udon, a massive bowl of udon in curry broth with chicken katsu, shrimp tempura, poached egg, and cheese. I tried some, and it was really good. Kochi isn't just an udon place. There are lots of homestyle Japanese dishes on the menu, as well as sushi. Udon does seem to be the specialty, though, and it's what I'd go back for, especially if I'm hanging with Wade.

There are so many possible substitutions and ways to customize your meal to what you like. I ordered the croquette curry and my partner got the menchi curry. He felt the menchi was decent and I really liked mine. Their croquettes are nice and flavorful. The curry has a nice balance of flavors in it, though the mild was even a tiny bit spicy for me. The side order of cabbage with a creamy sauce helped a lot. We also both enjoyed the side salad with sesame dressing. It was a little sweet and a nice addition to the meal. Next time I may do a miso soup! The price is also very fair for the amount of food and quality. I left feeling very full and satisfied with the experience. Highly recommend.
