Christy's Donuts is one of those classic Houston gems that proves you don't need anything fancy when the food is this good! The donuts are fresh, soft, fluffy, and absolutely delicious, with that perfect old-school donut-shop taste. The glazed donuts are a must, and there are so many tempting choices that it's almost impossible to leave with just one. And don't skip the kolaches--they make this the perfect Houston breakfast stop. And the donuts filled with lemon my favorites!! I also love the simple, neighborhood feel and friendly service. It's the kind of place that has been part of Houston for years and keeps people coming back for a reason. Definitely a Houston favorite and a place I'll happily return to! read more

Christy's Donuts is more than a donut and kolache shop. It's a story full of history and remnant of Cambodian entrepreneur Ted Ngoy (aka the Donut King) and his ex-wife Christy. If interested in learning more I recommend watching the 2020 documentary called The Donut King as it'll shape a greater appreciation and understanding of not just this donut shop, but probably over 90% of mom and pop donut shops across Texas are Cambodian owned. The current owners of this family owned shop are Cambodian, and they've been operating for decades. On to the food, highly recommend their Chappell Hill sausage kolaches. They tossed it in the microwave for a quick reheat which made me a bit skeptical of freshness, but regardless the bread remained soft and pillowy with an amazing bread to meat ratio. For their donuts I loved their apple fritter, blueberry, and classic glazed donuts! They'll also toss in some donut holes on the house. Great for grab and go to work early in the morning, they open as early as 4am! read more

Incredibly upset! I love their Chappell Hill sausage kolaches and I literally came here to order just that. There was plenty of parking and the food line went pretty quickly. The feel is very mom and pop vibes which I do like. However, when I came home, come to find out they put regular kolache's in my bag. You don't know how incredibly upsetting it is when you have in mind you want to eat something and don't get what you ordered Check your bags before you go, ladies and gentlemen read more

Genuinely can't believe this place has such high reviews. I work in the area so I frequent this place and there have been multiple times where I've gotten spoiled eggs on my croissant sandwich. It's blatantly obviously that the eggs aren't made fresh and are recycled from the day before. This has happened on three separate occasions and the 1st time it happened the young worker said "oh yea, that does happen sometimes, sorry about that." That's absolutely disgusting and this place does not propose food safety how they should. Doughnuts are also extremely sweet and oily, you will only taste those 2 flavors. read more

I have been eyeing Christy's Donuts for some time now. When I drive by Christy's, it is usually after they have closed, or I have already eaten. Parking: pretty easy parking. It is on the corner of W Gray & Waugh, so you can enter or exit at two sides. It is not a large parking lot, but people seem to come and go quickly as it is mostly take out. Entrance & Ordering: small area to wait in line to order. There were two people in line in front of me and it went quickly. I had time to look at the fresh baked goods, the menu, and to make an informed decision. I read on yelp that the sausage and cheese croissant was tasty, so I ordered one and asked for a jalapeño option. The lady said she has a sausage and cheese kolache with jalapeño and I enthusiastically accepted. She warmed them up nice and hot. I paid cash since my order was $3.57 (and because I actually had cash on me). She seemed appreciative of cash for my small order. The croissant and kolache were delicious and I will be back for more! read more

The best donut shop in Houston. Honestly I can't tell why this place doesn't get talked about more often, and sometimes I'm grateful it isn't. They can definitely get busy, but they aren't city wide famous for some reason, so you can still get a parking spot. This is a Montrose institution as far I'm concerned, I've been going here since my days at UST. The building has never changed, and the quality has always been great. The plain glazed donut here is the only thing I've had that's better than a Shipley's plain glazed. Served hot and super fluffy, they basically just melt in your mouth when you get one fresh. The kolaches and other savory breakfast options here don't miss either, no mystery meat sausages or premade plastic wrap breakfast tacos. Every style of donut here is my fave compared to other neighborhood spots. Worth a trip into town for sure! read more

The donuts are sooo good. A fresh glazed from here is the best donut I have ever had. Soft, warm, sweet but not too much....perfection. Their kolaches are good too if you're into savory stuff. We go every other week at this point lol read more

The donuts are very good but the 17 year old girl working at the front should probably not be talking to people. She is extremely rude, aggressive and has no respect for the customers who pay her to be there. I thought I was at Waffle House. read more

I've been coming here for years. Everything is made fresh daily. The service is friendly and helpful. They give you free donut holes depending on how much you order. The donuts and sausage kolaches are always solid. It's a small shop with limited seating. We usually just get things to go. read more

The best apple fritter I have eaten in Houston. Great kolaches as well. The glazed doughnuts were great too.

Stopped by to grab early breakfast to-go for a road trip. This mom and pop shop is located in Montrose area and have a private lot. Got the jalapeños sausage&cheese kolaches and half a dozen glazed donuts. Turns out I've had Christy's many times through out the years in the office, and didn't realize since their boxes do not have logo or name. Tasted even better when freshly made! Kolache tasted fresh, the flavor and texture were good (much better than places with similar price point such as Shipley's and kolache shop, but not quite there yet compare to places with a higher price such as kolache Shoppe). The fresh glazed donuts are still warm and tasted like how a classic glazed donut should be, they also throw in couple free donut holes in the box! Will definitely come back again. read more

Solid kolache spot that's been in its location for a while and surviving in an area of high gentrification. Old school and located on West Gray and Montrose, Christy's has a small parking lot and a very small building that sells some tasty donuts and kolaches. The donuts remind me of Shipley's and the kolaches are decent as well. They're missing a high quality jalapeño cheese kolache with a decent sausage but it's still better than most of the other kolache spots in the area. There is some interior seating but we got ours to go like most other patrons. read more

My favorite donut shop in the area. Consistent quality, tasty. Quick service. Try it out

I was totally expecting this place to be packed when I arrived but luckily the line was short and quick. I love a good donut and would say I'm looking for a particular texture and lightness to it for it to be amazing! And of course taste is everything. On this day I tried a sausage roll and donut holes. Ugh, it was nothing amazing to scream out about. The sausage roll was the average link in a roll. I wasn't blown away but it wasn't horrible either. The donut holes were the texture I was looking for but the taste was just not there for me. Perhaps I'm super picky and that's ok. They have a variety of donuts and other alternatives to sausage rolls. I hope you're able to explore and try a little bit of everything. I'm still on my quest to find the best donut place here in this city. Happy Yelping! read more

One of those old school mom & pop donut shops that's no frills and been there forever. Serving kolaches and donuts that get the job done and the stomach full. Don't expect anything fancy just sugary goodness. And the windshield repair company in the parking lot has fixed a whole lot of the damage from rock strikes with superior quality and satisfaction. read more

I love me a mom and pop donut shop (wow, I was practically a poet there...nah, not). When you walk in, you know this place has been around for decades, and that's a good thing. The decor is like "Dairy Queen salvaged", circa 1985, and I wouldn't have it any other way. It makes you feel like your favorite childhood place is still around in the neighborhood. The sleeper here (take this as a pro tip) is the boudin kolache. If you haven't had boudin for breakfast, LoL yourself an AirBnB I Lafayette, LA now and thank me later. The boudin kolache here is a fantastic. Yes, if you're on a Keto diet, this is a "carb on carb" crime, but get it anyway. My next favorite pleasure is the jumbo sausage and cheese kolache. Yes, it's a mass produced frankfurter in there, but I don't care. Nestled in their supple kolache dough, pigs never looked so happy in their blankets. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, and much prefer a savory brekkie. Yet, I still sneak some donut holes or a cake donut or two now and again. Service is always friendly, and love having this spot around. read more

Christy's has been in Montrose forever. In simple terms, they're a no frills mom and pop donut/kolache shop. The donuts and kolaches are all pretty good. Service is also fast and friendly. Parking can be challenging at times, but most people grab and go so just wait a little bit and you'll get a spot. It's nice to have a no frills shop among all these new and fancy places popping up around the neighborhood. Definitely check this place out. read more

Wow really cute mom and pop shop with tasty kolaches and lotsa donuts. There's an entrance on the side with an exit on the opposite side plus seating area. The kolaches aren't labeled so point and ask. Friendly service and ours got warmed up. Good prices and most people are regulars so staff greet them by name. We liked the croissant kolaches and the bigger sausage ones especially the spicy one. Shop local, buy local, and enjoy here!! Highly recommended when you are needing your carb fix! read more

A great place to pick up donuts and kolaches in Houston. This is a fixture in Houston. It has been around for many years. It is a small one-story building with a small parking lot that is often full. The interior is dated with a few tables for people to sit and eat inside. Now, what this location may lack in parking and decor it definitely makes up for in the food that it makes and sells. The kolaches and donuts are excellent and reasonably priced. We visited just last week to pick up food for an event and I am glad that we did. Parking was a challenge but as we entered there was a line. I think I have always seen a line when I visited. Do not be discouraged. The line moves quickly as it did when we visited. You order at the counter which is a display case full of their various offerings. It looks like 4 or 5 rows of deliciousness. We ordered and picked up 2 boxes of donuts and kolaches. The staff was very efficient and nice and the prices were reasonable since each of the kolaches are a meal in themselves. Overall, this is a great place to pick up some food if you want a delicious start to your day. read more

Highly recommend. They were very accommodating to my call in order and repeated my order back to me to make sure it was correct. I always appreciate that. Best blueberry cake donut I've ever had. Light, fluffy and not greasy. I can't wait to be in the area again.

I love going to christy's especially after a night shift. My favorite is their apple fritter!! Their sausage kolaches are great also. I wasn't a fan of their boudin kolache but it wasn't bad. They always give me donut holes when I order kolaches which is great. It's a small old donut place in midtown and they are always nice, helpful, and not pushy. I can see parking can be challenging here because they have a small parking lot but customers usually just pick up and go. Overall, I recommend this place and get their apple fritters it's so good!! read more

The kolaches and donuts are very very tasty and the pricing is cheap, cannot be beat!

I just had one of the absolute worst experiences I've ever had, in any restaurant. I went in to pick up my order, and immediately they ignored me and waited on two customers that came in after me. I thought maybe they didn't realize I was waiting first, you know give them the benefit of the doubt (and not allow myself to get irate). After the younger girl asked the second guy what else he wanted, I then spoke up and said "Why didn't you wait on me, I was here first"? The older lady of the two said rude and quickly "you wait after him". Okay now I'm pissed and I said "I was here why did you deliberately ignore me and take both customers... she said "I dunno" in the driest way. Okay y'all I am not a rude or confrontational person, so I said " I was already here and you skipped me twice". She then says in the rudest tone, "ok what you name on order!?". So I didn't spazz out, I turned around and said "Don't even worry about it, you know what you did and I'll make sure to let others know!" The younger girl with the retainer on actually laughed as I walked out. I've come here before years ago and the hospitality was amazing, I'll never go here again! It's dirty inside and the customer service is non existent or maybe I didn't look the way the other patrons did... because they were quite polite to the two who came after me. It's just really weird to feel blatant discrimination in one of our most diverse communities in this city! Do better Christys!!!! read more

It took me a while to go to Christy's because it didn't look like anything when going past. Little did I know this place is an institution and absolute gem in Houston! I like to take people from out of town here to experience their first kolaches. I love the jalapeño cheddar kolache and normally will either try another kolache as a second or have it with an old fashioned glazed donut. The best part is that you can get an amazing breakfast for just a couple bucks! You'll see people coming here for a quick meal that they'll eat at one of the tables, a breakfast on the run, or buying dozens of donuts and kolaches for events or coworkers. I can't believe I missed out on it for so long! read more

This donut place is pretty delicious, and better than average for sure. I really enjoyed the boudin kolache. It's really different. Chocolate old fashion was also well done. Donut holes were a little dense for my taste. This is a quintessential old style donut place, and I recommend you give it a try. Less flash, more substance then some newer donut places with a high quality product. read more

A very tasty donut shop with a large variety of options! Everything was delicious I would definitely come back here. (B).

Had to show some love to small businesses like this! I purchased 3 boxes and some donut holes for my work anniversary. Thank you for the prompt service! The only thing I would say is the donuts look a little smushed and I would of purchased more, however didn't want to purchase the smashed ones. read more

This family owned bakery makes way better doughnuts than another famous name brand that most Houstonians know. They've been in the same location for a long time. Great donut shop, as good as they come 10/10. Apple fritter is so crispy around the edges and soft on the inside.

I heard many good things about this place, and honestly, my expectations have been let down. I walk into the store and ask for some jumbo jalapeño Kolache's pay and get in my car, take a bit, and realize these aren't jalapeño, so I go back to see if they can swap. The worker just said, "You asked for regular."....word to my mama and Allah, I asked for jumbo jalapeño how do you even mix them up? They don't sound the same...anyways, the food was good, just the bitch up front rubbed me the wrong way. read more

If you are searching for a simple, fresh, and delicious donut or kolache, this is your next stop. The smell will hit you as you walk in, priming your eyes and taste buds for what is to come. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Prices are affordable. They even have a few tables if you want to sit and have your coffee/donut/kolache - just keep in mind this is a no-frills business, so don't expect it. I recommend making your plans early in the AM - not only will your donuts be supremely fresh, but you'll be able to get any of their more popular treats before they run out. Also, remember this is a breakfast spot - be grateful they close by 2 PM, keeping their staff and product refreshed and inviting! read more

Christy's Donuts is a neighborhood staple. Don't be fooled by their unassuming storefront... the moment you walk inside, the sight and smell of freshly-baked soft kolaches and donuts on display will completely blow you away. These are some of the top and best kolaches/donuts I have had in my lifetime, and at such great value, I will buy dozens at a time without any hesitation. My favorite is definitely the croissant kolache with sausage and cheese. But you really cannot go wrong with any of their offerings. Christy's will truly bring you warm happiness with their pillowy baked goodness on any given day. Service is incredibly friendly and efficient, which is just another added bonus.
