Someone answered but didn't even have the decency to let you say "hello" or "okay" (to being put on hold) as they rush away...and you're left in silence. Was on hold for over 8 minutes--no one ever came back. Clearly, they don't remember or care to help over the phone. Sure won't be wasting my time to go here. COVID SAFETY/CHECK IN: You need a mask to enter Costco, and you need to keep that mask on while you're in the optometry office. Everyone who comes in to the office has to get their forehead temp checked. You fill out your information and wait outside until the staff call you in. There were 3 people ahead of me, my wait was about 20 minutes. The autorefractor (machine you look through and see a hot air balloon or barn) is also sanitized in front of you before usage. OPTOMAP EXAM: There's an option to get an Optomap Retinal Exam (you get an image of your retina without needing to get your eyes dilated) for a small cost, and you can pay extra if you want the photos sent to you (~$30 total if I recall correctly). I decided to do the optomap and pay the extra fee for the photos since I've never done it before. One of the staff instructed me on what to do for the optomap. You have to position your eye at a certain distance for the image to capture. It's quick and painless, and the optometrist will go over the images with you. Since I paid for the images, staff told me they'd email them by the end of the day. A day passed, and nothing showed up in my email. I waited a few more days, nothing. I called the office after a week, and the girl on the phone said they probably forgot about it, and that they'll send it "right now". I finally got the images about an hour later. There's no image label telling you which one is the left eye or right eye, but you can attempt to figure it out by seeing which side the optic nerve is (the bright glowing dot). I'm glad the optomap is affordable because although the photos are extremely high definition, my eyelashes were strung across the middle of the photos and occluded more of the image than expected. EYE EXAM: Quickest eye exam in my life. If I hadn't asked Dr. Rafalski any questions, I probably would have been out of there in less than 5 minutes. A qualm I have is that it felt rushed and not personable. He switched the lens so quickly for the "1 or 2" and "3 or 4", and I had to ask to slow it down so I could pick between the options. I've been to many optometrists, and they often ask about your hobbies and activities (as some may impact your eye vision) and provide tips on how to preserve your eye health. One of my eyes' prescription changed and he pointed that out in a judging tone "Did you NOT notice that your vision changed?" Yes... that's why I'm doing this eye exam. I felt a little attacked by that. If you just want to get your eye prescription quickly checked, then this less than 5 minute exam would be a perfect visit for you, but it wasn't for me. read more

I had an appointment, and they saw me right away with no wait time at all. The optometrist (doctor) seemed to know his stuff: he informed me about what I might be at risk for, and he knew what Warby Parker would ask me about when I would go to them for my eyeglasses. The front staff was courteous & helpful: they made me feel at-ease when using the various machines to take my eye measurements, and when I lost the piece of paper that had had my prescription on it, they gave me another copy of it with no problem. read more

Make an appointment, even if you think you want to walk in! I made a same day appointment and I walked right past 3 people waiting before me, no guilt whatsoever. This man is a hero. It was the fastest and easiest eye exam of my life. He got my prescription right on the dot literally within minutes, finalized my papers, and I was right out that door. No tricks up his sleeve or anything. The staff, however, not the most pleasant people to deal with. When I was making an appointment, one of the girls hung up on me because she told me to hold on to talk to someone else in the office. When she started talking to me again, I didn't realize she was talking to me, so she said "hello" twice and just hung up. They aren't so much smiles and sunshine in person either. I came in with a scratch on my eye. Dr. R was very professional and dilated my eye so he could see the damage. The damage was minimal and he gave me a prescription eye drop to use for 3 days. Easily filled at the Costco pharmacy. I also got the shades to wear because he warned me I would be sensitive to light in that eye. I'm now feeling better and my eye doesn't hurt as much. There was a woman waiting outside for over an hour. I waited for over half an hour after my appointment time and there were still people ahead of me. Did a walk in. The doctor is great. Very thorough and excellent!!! The receptionist and the assistant are the rudest I've ever encountered!!! The receptionist was especially rude. Never smile or greeted. Never said thank you or please or speak for that matter. "Fill this out bring this back", was the most came out of this young lady's mouth. The wait was quite long although there were no customers. Another walked in who was a male and came an hour after me was given service first. The rep did not talk or advise you on your total. I had to ask her 4 times for my bill. Her answer was I already told you even though she never did. The girls jibjabbed nonstop instead of doing their jobs. I did complain to the doctor about their lack of work etiquettes. I advised the rep she looks very angry and her demeanor is very unprofessional. Arrived at my appointment on time and there were few people in line also waiting-- totally no big deal. Front desk staff (2 ladies) could benefit on customer service training/education. They both don't know how to acknowledge clients when they get there UNLESS you come up to them and say something. No greetings, doesn't ask if you need any assistance. Right when the Optometrist, Christopher Rafalski called me to get in I immediately felt that he was in a rush. I don't know if he was overwhelmed seeing clients waiting inline or if he's having a bad day but right when I first walked in the door til I left, I felt being rushed all throughout. He was switching the lenses VERY quickly which made it hard for me to recognize the difference and caused me to take a while to give him the answer. And yet, he would look at me like I'm dumb not being able to give a quick answer to really simple questions! I had asked him for his opinion regarding the type of prescription and he would just give a one-phrase answer and kept on saying "well it's up to you". No explanations or in short, he was of NO HELP at all. This is the closest Costco for me and I'd rather drive somewhere far and go to a more professional Optometrist and overall staff than experience this kind of service. DO NOT visit this place!! The optometrist was very unprofessional! Spent 2 minutes with my daughter and argued everything I told her about my daughter's vision. Even said that my daughter's eyes are drooping when I replied her dad's eyes are like that which were genetic, and she seemed surprised which acted like she knew everything! She is only a optometrist not a medical doctor and kept wanting me to refer her as a doctor!! The front desk clerks had the worst attitude ever!! I guess one of them thought she was too good to work there or something!! This is the best place to go for an eye exam. I know it's a little hectic because it's inside Costco, but you get a great experience with a super friendly staff. I was helped out by Blanca, Yesenia, and Dr. Sitty. They were all so nice and patient with me. It was my first time getting contacts so I was really nervous and I have anxiety which makes it 1000 times worse..lol. Dr. Sitty understood my needs and I had a great exam. Also, the lady that helped me with my glasses at the frames counter was so nice. I've been going to Dr. Rafalski for years. When he moved from the Burbank Costco to Fullerton, I continued to go to him. I drive an hour to see him. Totally pro. Honestly, the two one star reviews sound like people with an ax to grind. I've had my eyes dilated there and he was very clear about it. He even pointed out the fact that I shouldn't have it done unless i had a ride. The other person is complaining about his fill in here and that's lame, his fill in was wrong about the astigmatism and it doesn't sound like she asked Dr. Rafalski to double check the fill in's diagnosis. read more

Well this will be the last time seeing this eye doctor. I think he is thorough enough. However, I brought my father into to see the doctor and he waited. Days later, I too had an appt, and I waited. As I type this, my daughter was supposed to see him at 2:45 today, and more than 45 mins later, she hasn't been seen. First of all, I wanted to note that I've been to this optometrist location annually for the past few years. Although "Rafalski" is in the name of the business, I just discovered today that it isn't always Dr. Rafalski that you see! This is important to note because I always assumed it was Dr. Rafalski that saw me. In my previous visit at this location, an older doctor basically tried to force some paper/plastic eye lenses on my eyeball after dilating my eye (which really hurt my eye, causing me to tell him it was hurting me), after which one of the assistants noticed and told him he was doing it wrong. After that visit, I loathed the person that I assumed was Dr. Rafalski and decided he was extremely incompetent. A year later to date, I returned to the location and was seen by a younger doctor. He was extremely friendly, engaging and guess what? Upon inquiry, he told me his name was Chris Rafalski. He was an amazing optometrist and was nothing like the previous doctor that I had assumed was Dr. Rafalski! This made me realize something important--oftentimes the doctors wouldn't introduce themselves, so we'd just assume they were the name on the place of business. I suspect that the negative reviews here were potentially in response to the older doctor I saw the previous year, because the real Dr. Rafalski was nothing like the negative reviews say he was; in my visit, he was absolutely phenomenal! read more

Since my previous optometrist moved his practice to Palm Springs, I was in need of a new one right away due to a tear in my last set of contacts. I called Dr. Rafalski's office right when they opened Saturday morning and made an appointment for 12:45. I got there about 15 mins early for any new paperwork and pre-exams. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the staff. Dr. Rafalski went through the routine eye exam and went through the laser retina scan in detail. He was very thorough with everything and was very helpful. I was in and out with a year supply of contacts in a matter of an hour and a half. I highly recommend Dr. Rafalski. read more

I called early on a Saturday morning to make an appointment for an eye exam, but the receptionist told me to "just walk in" because her doctor is pretty "free." I insisted on making an appointment but she STRONGLY ADVISED on just coming in. So then I go in after about an hour and she says, (the SAME PERSON), "Oh, sorry, we are about to go to lunch so come back after 2," while she BLATANTLY rolls her eyes. Today my fiance and I had an appointment at 10 a.m.. we arrived 10 minutes early, not a problem though we just had fun looking at the different glasses we could get. The front desk person for the optical didn't arrive till almost 5 minutes after 10. Which is still fine, I'm a forgiving person. We weren't on that tight of a schedule today anyway. I go to make payment with my Care Credit Card. The front desk person begins to inform me that I need a pin in order to use my CareCredit card. I thought that was odd being as it is a credit card after all. No problem though I called my credit card company and explain the situation, they tell me that they most likely don't have the right type of system. We go back in to talk to the gal not a big deal, we planned on possibly even using a different credit card, but then she begins to tell me that they never did accept Care Credit and she doesn't know who I talk to. Basically her whole demeanor took a 180 as soon as the eye doctor walked into the room. She became very rude and short and overall just shity. That was the deciding factor for us right then and there. We canceled our eye appointment and walked out. It's one thing to misinform about payment, it's another thing to act completely rude and have zero customer service skills. I honestly don't see us coming back. It's a shame because I love Costco and I've used this optometrist before and was impressed. He needs to get a better staff though, otherwise he'll probably find himself losing more business. I came in the other evening to have Dr. Rafalski re-check my eyes as my prior appointment was with the on-call weekend optometrist and I didn't think he gave me an adequate prescription. Long story short, I had been given a prescription for progressive glasses. I have never had progressives before and they have been giving me headaches every time I wear them so I was hoping Dr. Rafalski could just send in a new prescription to give me stronger readers (like what I had before). He informed me that I hadn't given enough time to allow myself to adjust to the new glasses. Ok, fine - I'll try them a little longer. What I'm not impressed with is his attitude. He was unprofessional and argumentative. I was in there less than 5 minutes after he wrote out a new prescription which I'm not bothering with as I'm going to start over with more professional optometrist near my office. He may know what he is doing but his attitude is horrible. read more

Dr. Rafalski failed to explain to my dad what the side effects of a dilation would be. He didn't bother to tell my dad that his vision would be blurry and he would have light sensitivity afterwards. He performed the exam and sent him on his way. When my dad realized he couldn't see properly after the exam, he told Dr. Rafalski about it. Rather than taking this opportunity to explain what the side effects were, Dr. Rafalski just brushed him off, saying the effects will only last 30 minutes. If you have ever had a dilation, you know it could take hours to wear off. My parents had to wait in the store for 30 minutes upon which they realized my dad still couldn't see properly. They went back to Dr. Rafalski to complain. My mom doesn't drive and she was late for work so was waiting for my dad's eyes to improve to drive her to work. My mom basically told him that he was a doctor and that he should've warned his patient if they wouldn't be able to see afterwards. Dr. Rafalski then told my parents that he assumed my mom would drive home. Really? You just assumed this? Finally at that point he offered my dad a pair of disposable sunglasses. Four hours later, my dad went out to check the mail and at that point he still had major light sensitivity. Thirty minutes?? Talk about misinforming your patient. I walk in & stand in the front of the receptionist to check in. A receptionist is on the phone. She does not care who is walk in. She continue to talking on the phone for long time. I ask another staff in the back, she asks me to check in with a receptionist. Finally, she is off from phone. I tell her "its a long conversation". I can tell from her eyes movements that she does not like what I say. After exam, a receptionist asks me for co-payment for $19. I tell her my insurance does not have co-payment. But they insisted me to pay. First, I do not want to argue & I need prescription to order glasses and optic dept. Rommel from Optic dept is living at 5:30 pm. I ask staffs can I get refund if there were mistake. Two staffs bluntly answered I would have to dealt with my own insurance. After I come home, I contact my insurance to confirm that no co payment for annual eye exam. My insurance asks me to contact tomorrow since Costco is close now. I will give updates about over charged co-payment. I usually I do not make negative comments. But I have to. Two female staffs are very rude. I do not understand how they get the job? I try so hard not to write negative reviews, but I can't hold my tongue any longer. I had seen Dr. Scavo at this location 5 years ago, and other than the fact that the office staff seemed cliquish and unfriendly, I was satisfied sufficiently with the experience. When I came back about 2 years later. Dr. Rafalski had taken over. To make a long story short, I had a TERRIBLE experience. On this visit he was out, so he had a colleague filling in. When it was time for the glaucoma test (he had already done the air puff but didn't tell me he was re-testing), I asked, "Is this the test where you touch my eye?" He said NO. But he had lied. I called him out immediately and we had a conversation about how it is unethical to lie to your patients about ANYTHING. He said, "When I tell people, they get scared." I said let them get scared, and then reassure them and talk them through it, because NOW I DON'T TRUST ANYTHING YOU SAY. I should have listened to myself and simply left because it got worse. For one thing, he told me I don't have an astigmatism, even though I have had one for 15+ years. He fitted me with contacts that were SO uncomfortable and ineffective. I returned to the office to try new contacts, and Dr. Rafalski was actually there. We had a conversation about the profuse watering of my eyes, and he reiterated what his colleague had told me, but in a MUCH more dismissive way--essentially "You are old and everyone your age has this problem. And you have allergies which everyone in California does." REALLY??? He sent me home with new contact lenses. They sucked. I came back. He gave me a third kind to try. They sucked, AND NOW I KNOW WHY! After seeing the amazing Dr. Phan in Placentia, I found out I DO STILL HAVE AN ASTIGMATISM. Bad diagnosis, bad delivery, bad attitude, bad bedside manner. I love Costco. I hate the optometrist they chose for Fullerton. And they're NOT cheaper than my new guy anyway, so don't suffer because you think you're saving money! read more

I am so thankful for Dr Rafalski, Because of the accuracy of the exam he gave me. My new prescription eye glasses came out Excellent! I am far sighted and I set in front of a computer for 9 hours per day during the weekdays. My previous prescription glasses I got from some where else and costed over $700 and did not work for me at all. So I was a little hesitant to try again and with a New Optometrist but Dr Rafalski was very patient with me and very confident that he knew my prescription so I tried and so glad I did! Been going to Costco for my eye exams for a few years (best value around: $94 for contact lens exam). Dr. Rafalksi replaced Dr. Scavo which I didn't know. I was helped by a Dr. Patel (if I'm not mistaken) who was filling in for Dr. Scavo that day. The service from beginning to end was top notch. The staff is super attentive, the Dr. was very thorough and made sure I didn't have any questions before our time was up. This is the worst optometry office I had ever been to. I went in for my eye exam and also did the dilation. My insurance covers a comprehensive eye exam which includes dilation with only co-pay of $20. So after the exam was completed they charged me an extra $20 in addition to my co-pay of $20 for the dilation. At first, I thought maybe my insurnace does not cover dilation. I went home and called my insurance (two times and talked to two differrent reps) and they confirmed with me that dilation is included in the exam with only $20 co-pay. They also called the doctor's office to let it know that I had been overcharged. Then I called the doctor's office and they said they would refund me the $20 and confirmed that my insurance had called them. Then, lo and hebold, about 2 hours later the office called me and said they cannot give me a refund because they normally would charge the dilation seperately regardless and made some other excuses. I determined to come in to the office the next day, so I did with my insurance policy that shows that the dilation is included. They refused to acknowledged that my insurnace covers the dilation amd told me that they are not "in-network". What the hell? I had already checked that they are in fact "in-network" and I even showed them the NPI number. They reluctantly refunded me but said that next time they will charge seperately regardless. Next time? Whay would I want to ever come back to such an unprofessional service? They did not seem to know what my insurnace covers even though I told them to look it up. They did not seem to care about Costco's values and cuatomers even thoughthe are inside Costco and benefiting Costco's loyal customers because they kept saying we are independent when I asked about their relationship to Costco. To anyone who is out there reading this, make sure you check with your insurnace if dilation is included and not to have to pay it. Why would you pay for something that is covered under your insurnace policy? The staff in the office does not seem to be knowledgeable or know what the insurnace covers or acknowledge that they had made a mistake when they did. Be careful. read more
