Chris did a superb job on a full remodel four our sixty-year-old-house. We put in-an- in-ground pool, full kitchen remodel, took down some walls, added a half-bath (including a new door from the new half-bath to the backyard), remodeled both our bathrooms, moved the door to our garage from one side of the house to the other, put in new flooring throughout, replaced all our windows, redid the front and back stucco of our outside, put in new outside light fixtures, put in new garden irrigation to stop our backyard from flooding during rain-storms, and laid concrete for our driveway, side patio, back patio, and steps out to our pool. During this entire process Chris (and his workers) were exemplary. He knows Davis regulations and building codes like the back of his hand, clearly presents his prices, and helped us navigate many tricky issues. For example, upon doing our electrical work it was discovered that almost none of our outlets were grounded, presenting a major fire-hazard. Chris worked with us to replace these at a minimal charge. He also took our many questions in stride and was on-site himself almost every day. We are so happy we went with Chris. I would strongly recommend him whether you are planning a large job like ours or a simple remodel (i.e. only a kitchen or only a bathroom, etc.). read more

I needed to remodel a townhouse in Davis that hadn't been updated in almost 50 years. Chris walked through it with me and pointed out hazards (old electrical panel, bathroom floor rot) and out of code items (lighting), and offered ideas for improvement. He was helpful in suggesting sources for items like cabinets, stone, flooring and tile, which made product selections simple. Chris and his crew redid the entire kitchen and bathroom, installed new flooring throughout, as well as new windows, new front door, light fixtures and fresh paint. He also dealt with existing damage from a leak that had caused a rotting floor and mold. The results are beautiful. Chris was very easy to work with and very responsive. My challenge was that I live over an hour away from Davis and was not able to monitor the job closely. This was not a problem at all - I have full trust in Chris and his work. After interviewing 5 different contractors about remodeling our kitchen, a bathroom, and the floors, we decided to go with Christopher Crawford Construction. We are so happy we did. He and his crew were detail-oriented, communicative, and delivered quality work within our timeframe. One sticking point was that we were unable to find kitchen cabinets we liked that would be manufactured and delivered in time. Chris found a custom cabinet maker who built us gorgeous, book-matched euro cabinets in walnut veneer and they are more beautiful than we could have imagined. (See pics for before and after.) From the retexturing of the walls to tile layout--we selected handmade tiles and epoxy grout, both of which require expertise to install properly--Chris and his crew's attention to detail was consistent. After a long and stressful experience with my insurance company following a flood in my kitchen, I found Chris. Chris was timely in correspondence, very experienced, and professional. He quickly developed a budget for a complete kitchen remodel (which included modifications to the floor plan/layout and raising the ceiling), new paint and flooring throughout the house, and new bathroom vanities and mirrors. I was dealing with budget restrictions as this was an unexpected renovation and Chris was great in developing options for me to choose from. *Carly & Michael* We have been working with Chris for the past several months on a complete home remodel. The main renovated areas included the kitchen and master bedroom/bathroom, but we also completely re-painted and carpeted the remainder of our four bedroom home. This was quite the project considering the home we recently bought had minimal renovations done since it was originally built in the 1960's. As another added complexity of this job, the designer of the home was from another state which required Chris to be in very close communication to ensure they stayed aligned on the details of the project. Chris did an absolutely amazing job on the house and we could not be more happier with our home. The craftmanship and quality of the work more than exceeded our expectations. Chris is a great general contractor and only uses the best sub-contractors. He is very good at communication and always answers his phone. We were given his name by a realtor friend to do a small remodel job in our kitchen, involving re-placing our kitchen countertops, installing a new sink and faucet. He had good suggestions for materials and did some very complete estimates, which made our decision on choosing products easy. There were some challenges with the old layout of the kitchen not taking advantage of the space and the finishes were really outdated. Chris came up with a fantastic new plan for organizing the kitchen. They need to be more responsible in terms of containing and transporting debris and waste. We just traveled behind one of thier truck and trailers for several miles and the whole time they were losing fiberglass insulation all over the place. We tried to catch up to and let them know but because they were driving well over the speed limit we couldn't catch up to them and let them know that they were littering for through Oakland and Alameda. The trailer was also lacking a license plate. Not very responsible! read more

He did a great job, so I hired him again for a second kitchen redo and will keep doing so as un-renovated units become vacant. There is nothing on this page including the description of Chris' company that is recognizable! Our dealings with Chris were nothing short of a nightmare! We met him in Cabinets to Go in Oakland when we went to look at Cabinets. He overheard us talking with a salesman and came over and introduced himself and said he was from our town and grew up here. He stated he was a contractor and would be interested in doing our job and it would give him a chance to visit. He gave us his card and I called him later on and he volunteered to come out and do the measure, which he did. He actually mismeasured and as a result one cabinet sticks past the doorway by an inch and a half. We ordered the cabinets and when time for installation came the nightmare started! He never showed up in the morning to work, some days it was 1 pm and then he would want to stay till 8 or 9 pm even though I told him I did not want him here that late. He wouldn't work consecutive days, come for 1 day and may not be back for 3. The quality of his work is not acceptable. He installed an electrical outlet on the outside of the wall, when I said it wasn't acceptable he took the backing off the cabinet and installed it inside but the outlet was too far back. He told me I needed to have an electrician bring a long screw to fix it. He brought a representative for a competing cabinet company into my home without asking permission, all of a sudden a stranger was in my kitchen! He had his cousins visit the first day on the job. He spent most of his time on the phone or texting while his 1 worker did most of the work. He was extremely messy and did not clean up. Bottom line, I would NEVER recommend Chris Crawford Construction. He is the least professional business person I have ever encountered. read more
