During this entire process Chris (and his workers) were exemplary. He knows Davis regulations and building codes like the back of his hand, clearly presents his prices, and helped us navigate many tricky issues. For example, upon doing our electrical work it was discovered that almost none of our outlets were grounded, presenting a major fire-hazard. Chris worked with us to replace these at a minimal charge. He also took our many questions in stride and was on-site himself almost every day. We are so happy we went with Chris. I would strongly recommend him whether you are planning a large job like ours or a simple remodel (i.e. only a kitchen or only a bathroom, etc.).

From day one, we were impressed with Eric who came to look at our project and give us an estimate. He was very professional, prompt, friendly, organized, knowledgeable about products, scope of work, and gave us a very impressive timeline. Eric offered his expertise about layout, and products which was very helpful. When we received our contract, it was just as he said it would be, and the scope of work included everything we requested. After the contract was signed, the owner of Vostok, Alex, arrived with the demolition crew. The crew was very careful to cover the adjacent bedroom furniture and flooring. The bathroom work area was closed off with plastic, and the crew was very tidy while they worked. The old bathroom was demolished ASAP. Alex is very knowledgeable and skilled. He has a very deep bench of very skilled craftsmen who are amazing. The quality of everything was top notch. In summary, we would highly recommend Vostok for your bathroom renovation.

The team was so diligent and detail oriented - they worked long days and problem solved and delivered the most beautiful results. I would highly recommend Vostok!

We needed some major renovation work involving the conversion of a outdoor sun room into enclosed…read moreliving space, and we knew it would be a complicated project so we hired a local building designer well-versed in Davis codes. With the plans and city approval in hand we started approaching the big-name local construction firms and were immediately met with resistance, as all insisted we shelve our design plans ($$!!!!) and use their own designers. They wanted to control all aspects of the construction, including the design, and although I respect that, I was not about to throw away $6,000 and an approved city permit. I contacted Mike Pesola, the owner of Bedrock Construction after doing some background checks, and he called back within a day. All I can say is I found Mike Pesola a true professional who was interested in how we wanted the project done, and was a project leader who made it happen. He took the plans and studied them and came to me within a week with an estimate that was within $5,000 of my own estimate of what the job should cost. We did it in two phases, starting in the fall, and then restarted again in April. Any costs outside of the contractual plan was clearly allocated, usually because we as owners decided to upgrade certain fixtures, but in all cases there were no surprises and the project moved forward on schedule and on budget. As a former contract administrator, I can tell you this requires both parties to pay attention to the details and keep both sides informed, which is exactly what happened. His crews were polite, cleaned up after the days work, and arrived when they said they were coming. When there were issues, and in construction projects there always are, Mike was there and things were ironed out seamlessly. Because of Covid 19 concerns, we delayed the planned 2nd phase by almost a month, and Mike worked with us in rescheduling his crews. Mike's father was a building contractor in NYC, and it was obvious Mike learned the business the right way. We are extremely pleased with the results and recommend Bedrock without any hesitation. It is a family business and run the way I would run my own business. Bottom line, project was delivered on time, on budget, with excellent results with no issues with the city or our neighbors! Thumbs up, Mike! Fine work!

Being here was several weeks, I worked from hime to let them have access to the backyard and inside the house for their needed repairs. They all worked without issue and concern, and provided necessary updates when available. Communication with the city for permits was at issue at first, and an initial inspection was missed. As myself and the team weren't aware it was taking place at that specific time. 2nd inspection, the inspector was several hrs late and made the contractors wait all day, and no work could get done that day. Inspections after were good. Only issues I noted were a number of nails left out in my yard, all in the same area vicinity. Where my dog also goes out to walk, so that was a little concern. But there was nothing else that occured, and clean up for was good before and after. Total work - $18k+

Edited to add photograph and also add that we did the painting ourselves, after Rose's team were done. So any imperfections in the paint are on us! A few years ago, I chose Rose Remodeling to do a full remodel of my primary bathroom. I was so…read moretraumatized by the nightmare experience that I couldn't bring myself to write a review, even though I felt prospective customers should hear from all sides, including those with horrible experiences. I got duped by the rosy reviews, not realizing those high ratings weren't necessarily representative of all their clients. Their bid was far higher than other contractors', but I mistakenly believed a higher price meant higher quality, and the sales rep, Justice, was very nice, so I chose this company. However, once the contract was signed, my bathroom was assigned to a project manager who seemed primarily focused on making sure I paid at each stage of the remodel. To my surprise, he never once stepped into my house to check the work. Rose Remodeling advertised itself as family-run, so I thought they would be involved in the work or at least oversee it closely. Boy, was I wrong. They subcontract to people who spoke limited English, so I couldn't communicate with them properly. To make matters worse, they let a trainee do most of the grout work on my shower wall, floor, and wainscoting. The grout lines were bumpy and uneven, with bubbles and cracks. When I complained, the project manager pointed out that grout lines are never perfect, implying I was the problem and a perfectionist, when 99% of the work was so bad that an average DIYer could have done better. I was forced to monitor the so-called subcontractors and contact the project manager (via phone or email because he never once came to the job site or meet me in person) again and again to redo sections. They never reviewed all their work and simply fixed everything. Each time, they only fixed the specific spot I marked with painter's tape. It felt like they were always trying to get away with shoddy work. I had to point out every grossly flawed detail for them to fix that one detail. They simply didn't want to do the right thing, which was to deliver quality work. It was such a hassle working with them. Another example: my mirror was higher on one side, and I had to fight with them to redo it multiple times until it looked level. These are just a few examples of the struggles. A week after I paid in full and began walking on the new tile floor, cracks started showing up immediately. I was so distraught after exhausting all my energy getting other parts of the remodel up to par that I just couldn't deal with them. It took a year, and a friend's help confronting them, before I finally got them to fix more grout issues. A year later, I finally met a competent contractor at their office, who came to my house the next day to inspect my issues. He was shocked at the lack of quality in my job, and for the first time, I got an apology and an acknowledgment of the nightmare I'd lived through. (The original project manager, Graham, never apologized for the problems and never took the time to supervise the subcontractors. Apparently, it was my job if I didn't want crappy workmanship.) In summary, if you want to pay extra high price to gamble on Rose Remodeling, you may get lucky and be assigned a better subcontractor and better project manager or you may end up with ones like those assigned to my bathroom. In the end they did finally fix most things but i should not have paid a high price to suffer this nightmare remodel. Ps I have too many photos to post but this is example of the workmanship they tried to dump on me.
