Today I had the most exceptional customer service experience EVER. I happened to get the help from the store manager (didn't she have important things to do besides help me?). I was looking for a wall-mounted a soap dish for a powder room. She went through several resources and came up with a very creative solution. Needless to say I was thrilled! Do not do business with Chown Hardware in Bellevue! I ordered a closet door pull that I liked in particular because of its pretty backplate. When I picked it up, there was only the pull, not the backplate. I was told the backplate was a separate item that I would have to order and pay for in addition, and that it's not kept in stock and would take weeks to get. The storeroom display shows them together, with nothing saying that it's a separate item that has to be ordered separately. The salesperson told me that my choice was a popular one, kept in stock at their Portland facility, and that it would be there within a week. Nothing about the backplate needing to be ordered separately or being shipped later. I spoke to the manager, and he could not have been more discourteous. He did not even offer an apology for any inconvenience or misunderstanding, told me I was NOT getting a free backplate, and said that the salesperson DID tell me that they had to be ordered separately (which she didn't - since it was the backplate I was most interested in, of course I would have heard that, and anyway he wasn't there when I ordered). He said that if I was unhappy, I could take my business elsewhere, which I will do and recommend others do as well. I always try to buy locally, but after this distressing interaction I found the same backplate on the Internet for $7.95. I was willing to order the backplate, but he permanently lost a customer (and probably others) over $7.95. read more

Located in a dirty strip mall with trash littered outside the front door, this is not in the nicest part of Bellevue, dingy, poorly lit, and not great smelling inside. Rude, unhelpful staff, plus some bizarre behavior mixed into our unpleasant experience from the washed up, disengaged, sad, small salesperson who clearly peaked in 1999, sitting at the rear desk in the showroom. He wasn't on the phone with a client, helping anyone, or doing much of anything with his time except being nasty. With the advent of the internet and just about any product and hardware selection widely available for purchase elsewhere, the showroom hardware and fixture business model is precarious at best. The weird miserable staff members at the dumpy showroom of Chown in Bellevue seem intent on making sure it collapses sooner rather than later. Remarkably, we were the only people shopping there and they still managed to make us decide to leave. We stood outside the store front chatting with our designer after we exited for a time and what do you know? The entire time we were there, the customer count was at zero. Our negative experience in the showroom mixed with the numerous reviews we read about Chown regularly struggling in terms of delivering products to contractors on time in order to complete projects, we happily walked out without making purchases for our large home renovation project and headed on over to the Ferguson showroom a mile away. Ferguson was staffed with friendly helpful folks, buzzing with clients, and it was clean and well lit. Night and day. Save yourself a trip and skip Clown Hardware. read more

Another reviewer proposed to rebrand them "Clown Hardware". This moniker is apt enough. It's not that "Clown" doesn't carry good hardware. As it happens, their selection is rich and includes top-quality manufacturers (for a price). It's just that their personnel can be screamingly incompetent, borderline lazy and can exude the warmth of dead reptiles. Such an experience flies in the face of arguments against "bad" online retail giants "unfairly" competing with "good" small businesses whose dedication to attentive, personalized service cannot be matched... This is pure BS! You will get zero service from Clown. They are no more qualified to help you design your project than you are. In fact, they are LESS qualified than you. They will also mess up your order (but slowly, to prolong your agony) when they finally work on keying it in, using their ancient software relic. Here is a business idea for the manufacturers: What don't you let us directly order from you guys, so the sad Clown can peacefully "retire"? read more

Went there looking to replace our front door handles. I was told that my measurements don't really matter, that it only depends on where the holes are drilled. I found something similar to our current model and ordered expedite shipping. Arrived as expected( hence the 2 stars), however the handles were too small for our door. Went to return it and was told that 30% of the price will be held as restocking fee. So for a $900 door handle, they need almost $300 to restock it !?! When expedite shipping was about 50? It's a ridiculous amount of money and this should be disclosed to the customer upfront. Like DISCLOSED- clearly. Wish I would've ordered the same model on Amazon, because I would've had full refund. read more

Unfortunately this company does not take good care of their clients. I usually don't leave bad reviews. I hate to do this but it's very unfortunate that this company does not put customers first. I received an email with the wrong door spec information from them, which created a problem which they blamed me for. I had every email to show them for proof which they did not want to look at. Multiple associates from this store attacked me by saying that it was my fault that they messed up on the door specs. It's frustrating also when they tell you to leave the store because the refund process will take too long, but I refused to leave until I got a receipt for my refund. Surprisingly they were able to refund me within 3 minutes! Interesting. I am sad to see businesses treat their clients like this. I hope they learn from this mistake and take up responsibility for making a mistake and not turn their clients away by telling them to leave the store without any receipt. They told me multiple times that they will contact me by phone or email. No thank you. I did not drive here in traffic for them to tell me, "we can call you later" because they were "busy". I decided to do a refund and find hardware with another company. This is why I am leaving a 1 star. If I could put no stars, I would. Disappointed with the way they treated me from the beginning to the end of our transaction. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service I've experienced-EVER. Stood in front of 3 salespersons, all sitting at computers or on cellphones. NOBODY would acknowledge me for five minutes and when they did it wasn't the woman five feet from me, it was a salesman on his computer across the room. I really got the feel that if you don't look like you have a lot of money, you're not worth their time. Too bad they have the worst customer service because their inability to help or be bothered by my presence just cost them over 50K in a home remodel. I'm the owner of a general contracting company. First time using this company to purchase door knobs for an entire house remodel. John, the salesperson, was very helpful on making my selections. I needed them right away so I could finish my remodel on time. He accommodated my requests. I received the door knobs but when I got to the last box I noticed that the knob was worn and scratched like it was a floor model or a return that they tried to sell to me. I called and let the salesperson know of the situation and he advised me that he would order me a new one. I came to pick it up and he ordered the wrong one. So, after all of this, my project was delayed even further. The problem I have ultimately is they didn't even offer me anything for my troubles. Being a new customer, I thought that the level of mistakes made and trying to sell me a used product as a new one would constitute a better response than "sorry". I won't be using Chown in the future. I've received better service from Builders Hardware. read more

Not the best customer service. Ordered a kitchen faucet in October and received no proactive follow up on shipping times. It is now February and I have been having to constantly check in with the company for updates, which seemed an inconvenience for the sales rep. I recently worked with Cam and Susan. Both are super friendly and helpful! Great variety of products and price points. I went there thinking I'd get some ideas for my cabinet knobs and pulls but it'd be too expensive for me to buy anything. I was wrong! I wish I had a different experience at Chown. It would make my life easier but my experience was such that I refuse to give them my business under any circumstances. If I could give them zero stars, I would. I visited Chown on three different occasions with friends who were doing remodels. Each time,the customer service was lackluster at best but I went back because it was convenient and suggested by our contractor. We were remodeling our entire house and needed fixtures for 4 bathroom, 3 tubs, 4 sinks, kitchen sink, 8 interior doors, hardware and light fixtures for the entire house. When I went in, there was no one at the front desk so I couldn't ask anyone for help. The consultants were all in the back of the store and wouldn't even look up to make eye contact. I had to approach a woman at the desk in the back to ask for help and then it was met with resignation and she seemed resistant to help. I was told that she couldn't really help me because she was not the one who worked with our contractor and the person I needed was not there. I asked if she could at least show us some options in the showroom, it was met with a sigh and she begrudgingly gave me 10 minutes of her time. I left my contact info so the appropriate consultant could call me. Two weeks went by, and no one contacted me. I dropped in the store again to see if I could meet with anyone but the same woman who was there before told me that I needed to make an appointment and that no one could really help me aside from the person who worked with my contractor. If I had known I needed to make an appointment, I would have made one instead of wasting yet another trip to Chown. Clearly, no one wanted to help me at the store. When I asked if she could at least give me some catalogs to look through, I was told that they get commission and that it wasn't really fair for her to put in the time with me since the other consultant get the commission. I was flabbergasted! I couldn't believe that a retail store could operate this way. I was shocked and told the woman I made multiple attempts to get assistance and Chown had made no effort to solicit my business. It seemed like I was begging to spend my money at Chown. I left and found FERGUSON less than a mile down the street. I was able to sit down with a consultant, Natasha, and was able to pick out all the fixtures I needed. While I was at FERGUSON, the consultant from Chown called to schedule an appointment and apologize. I said no thank you, I couldn't believe that they would treat potential clients this way and expect to do business. Then the regional manager called to apologize and asked what they could do to earn my business. My contractor called me as well since Chown had called him to apologize to him. I guess they were afraid of losing his business. I gave them my feedback but refused. Regardless of who I was or what I was going to purchase, they should treat each customer the same regard. I couldn't believe they treat customers this way and expect to do business. Chown does have a nice showroom but nothing you couldn't find at Ferguson or on the internet. I hope others have a more positive experience but they lost this customer for good. read more

The customer service was terrible. I came in with a sample of exactly what I wanted and I was told they could not look it up. They handed me a paper ruler and told me to basically look for it. Again, this is despite me showing them a sample of what I needed and telling them the exact size I needed. Horrible service. read more

I edited my original review of Chown from 1 to 5 stars and here is why. We purchased a Blanco sink from Chown in December and three weeks later on Christmas day it cracked. We had done a remodel of our kitchen that started in September so you can imagine our disappointment when our new beautiful sink cracked for no reason. We were told this has never happened and after we sent in a couple pictures we received a new sink free of charge within a month. Even though we received a new sink thanks to Chown no one wanted to cover the costs of labor to remove the broken sink and re-install the new one. We were going to be stuck with a $750 bill for labor. However we just got word today that while Blanco (the manufacturer) won't cover the cost of labor Chown will!! We are so happy that they stood by their product and made things right when they really didn't have to. This is true customer service and we highly recommend them. read more

She also quickly ordered new pieces when we decided to make a change to some of the cabinets. Maybe we are spoiled living in a world with fabulous customer service from retailers like Nordstrom or Costco. Maybe customer service experiences from these quality retailers has made it difficult for smaller business to provide the same quality of service. I'm not sure where the issue begins, but I know I have come to expect more. We built a custom home and used Chown for the finishes. We ran into so many issues with Chown I don't even know where to begin (ridiculously long waits on orders with no updates, no response to emails, items regularly missing at will call, items that arrived broken difficult to exchange). But I will say that in the day and age where it is easier and cheaper to buy direct from the internet I expect better service from a local company. read more

this place is amazing. the minute i walked in the door i received the best service. kailey helped me pick out my sinks and faucets, pulls and knobs, was super helpful providing design input, and knew exactly all the parts and pieces i needed to order which was critical since i wasn't working with a general contractor. kailey really went above and beyond helping me find a sink that would fit and was genuinely invested in making sure my project came together and looked good. everyone i interacted with at chown was great, super knowledgable. i would recommend them in a heartbeat. great selection of stuff to chose from too. read more
