Located in an unassuming location in a sweet little house CHOW is a masterpiece on the palate. We were warmly greeted and immediately seated next to the window overlooking their sustainable gardens. My husband opted for the buttermilk crusted chicken fried steak with roasted potatoes while I went for The Vinny (their version of Eggs Benedict served over house made bread) with cornmeal-crusted tomatoes. Even on a busy weekend morning we got seated quickly, the staff was very kind and the food was great. I love that they have a window bar open so you can enjoy a mimosa or Bloody Mary while you wait. This place is super cute! It's a house that has been converted into a restaurant. They also have their own garden in the yard which you can easily see from the street. My sister and I came here not expecting too much but we were pretty happy with our food. We came in on a Saturday around lunch time and it was packed. We even had to wait about 20 minutes before getting a table for two. I ordered the Blackstone which was really good! I loved that it was poached eggs on top of a halved tomato. The spinach and bacon as well as the bearnaise was delicious! My sister ordered the Samson. She enjoyed it but I'm not a huge fan of crab cakes so I thought it was okay. They also offered us free coffee since I checked in on yelp. Overall, we were really happy with our food. They also have three different hot sauces you can try. Two of them were pretty spicy but I loved the red hot sauce which was spicy but perfect to where I could still enjoy my meal and not feel like my mouth was on fire. The service on the other hand was okay. Our waiter seemed a bit cold and wasn't very friendly. There was other staff who helped drop off our food and cleaned our dishes and they were all nice but our waiter definitely had a chip on his shoulder. There was a little bit of a wait when we arrived at 8:15 but there's a cozy fire pit outside, and if you're bundled up, you'll be fine! After about a half an hour, we were seated and were promptly served. The space is in a little house, featuring local art and really homey decor. The coffee was smooth, and the food came out quickly. I had the Eggs a la Cesar, which were super flavorful. I chose the potatoes for my side dish, and I was very satisfied with them! Absolutely the best breakfast in all of Central Oregon. The benedict that I had was ridiculously good. I told our waiter I wanted to get the chef's phone number and ask her out on a date. Went here this morning and had a horrible experience. After they sat us at our table no one checked on us until we ask who our server was 15 minutes later. The whole time one of the guys working was yelling at the staff and made it really uncomfortable. I ordered the scramble special which was $17. When our food came out it was like warm and looked like an $8 plate worth of food. I ordered toast with my meal and they were out of jam. Finally once we were fed up with listening to the guy yell at the staff we decided to complain to our waitress about our experience and she said that it was the owner that was yelling at everyone. We found this place on a whim and it was easily one of our favorite meals while staying in Bend on our recent trip. We came for breakfast in the middle of the week in February. From the moment we walked in, all four of us in our party fell in love with this place. We couldn't stop looking at all of the fun artwork on the walls. The restaurant itself is in a super cute house that has been refurbished to accommodate diners. All four of us had a Bloody Mary. Two had the jalapeño Bloody Marys and the other two had the roasted garlic Bloody Marys. They were so good and loaded with pickled veggies. At 9 bucks a piece, these could easily be a meal in a mason jar. The food was amazing. Lots of healthy, locally grown breakfast and lunch options. There was even a special vegan and gluten-free menu. Perfect for us because we had a vegan in our party. She's the one who picked this place!! Everything we ordered was delicious. The service was super friendly. The vibe was just right. I got the feeling we were the only tourists in the place, but no one treated us any differently. We got great food with outstanding service. Chow is now on our Must Eat At When in Bend, Oregon list. I'd like to start by saying that we've visited Bend numerous times and every time we've made it a point to visit CHOW for breakfast or brunch. We were very much looking forward to it this trip. As with other low reviews, the wait was LONG. However, every other time we honestly didn't care because it had always been WELL worth the wait. Not sure what's happened but those days are clearly over. We went on a Sunday morning & not only was no one being seated inside, there were at least a couple of open tables outside the entire time we were waiting. I've waited tables before and I understand sometimes being understaffed can cause longer wait times. I also understand that no restaurant wants to completely overwhelm the kitchen if they want to put out quality food. Again, not sure what the reason was here, but neither seemed to be the case. I ordered a Bloody Mary at the outside bar (as I always have) to sip while we waited. About 2/3 of the way into the drink I suddenly felt sick -- shaky, cold sweats -- I NEEDED to sit down. We found a spot in the shade & I eventually started feeling better (but obviously didn't finish the drink). No clue what that was about. Finally, after probably 50 minutes, we were seated, but this was after watching at least 3 parties who showed up AFTER us be seated before us. By the time we sat down I felt better but still not great. My husband was properly hungry by this time and ordered one of the Benedict dishes. I needed to be safe and ordered the buttermilk pancakes. My husband maybe had 1/3 of his meal & mentioned a couple of times that something didn't taste right. I had a few bites of my pancakes and had to stop. They weren't good. We got the check, drove back to the apartment we'd rented and I slept off whatever the hell was going on for about 3 hours. Later that afternoon my husband started feeling bad. We spent the entire next 36 hours in the apartment with him sicker than he's ever been. We looked up other reviews today. I have to say that the managers responses have been narcissistic at best -- taking zero responsibility and literally blaming customers for their experience or even blaming the weather (in one review, a patron was sitting inside and the roof was leaking on them the entire meal and the managers response was "it was raining that day"). WTF? My husband certainly had far from a "blessed" experience and it's worth mentioning that his meal was the only thing he had that I didn't. I'm sure the manager response to this (if any) will be more of the same lame excuses and wishing blessings. Don't bother. Taking 5 days to visit Bend and having basically 2 days of it be taken away from us because of this meal is very disappointing. CHOW will no longer be on our list when we visit Bend in the future. We always come here at least once for breakfast when we visit Bend, OR They have a band playing out front on the patio during the summer months, which makes the usual long wait more tolerable. Just grab a bloody mary or mimosa while you wait and listen to the band...the time goes by fast and you'll want to stay longer! They're even dog friendly on the patio! We left our pooch at home, but enjoyed watching and petting all of the well behaved dog guests. Erin has been our server each time we've eaten there! She's awesome!!! She's been a server there for a long time...glad she's still there! She offers great recommendations...we haven't been disappointed yet...and she's funny! Great personality! The 2 young bussers, Leighton and Wesley were really hard workers too! They really hustle! They all did! I love chow for a fun breakfast. The decor is so fun and the food is amazing. The plates are massive so you can definitely share with a friend if you want. In the summer there outdoor deck is really fun and has a great little bar. The only downside is how unbelievably crowded it can get. It is because they have great food but there are other options in town that don't get quite as busy on the weekend. I would skip it though, just go on a week day or if you have time to spare just grab a breakfast cocktail and hang out! read more

Wow. What a mixed bag. I like that this is a truly local joint. I LOVE that the owner and its staff embrace the Bend concept of organic, local food with attention to detail. When I arrived, I was pleased with the pleasant outside garden, which I understand is used to harvest many of the herbs used in the various dishes. My waiter, though, seemed to be a little...mmm...."self-medicated." He attempted to serve me before the people next to me, who were seated first. I suggest he get their order first, but then didn't see him for another ten minutes or so. When he did arrive, I ordered the chicken fried steak (created from beef from a local rancher), and requested a side of buttermilk biscuit instead of the potatoes. He was very accommodating, in his lax kind of way. When my food arrived, I had a small portion of chicken fried steak,a biscuit that was more...mm....corn-bread like than buttermilk, and eggs over-easy. Yolks so soft it flooded my plate with yellow. I didn't specify, but he didn't ask how I wanted my eggs. Way over-easy seems an odd default choice, but okay.... The steak was incredibly good though. Very well seasoned, nicely breaded, and very flavourful. The biscuit wasn't what I expected, or even...really wanted, but was quite good nonetheless. My waiter stopped by and made his pleasantries, but then a (I believe) manager stopped to ask how things were. I said, "Pretty good. I mean, good." She queried, "Only pretty good?" I mentioned that the eggs were not how I preferred them, but since I never specified, I wasn't really complaining. She asked how I liked them, then said, "I'm sure you were never really asked how you wanted them." Ten minutes later, I had a couple of fried eggs in front of me. My waiter came by, checked on me, and apologized as well. My refills were kind of slow in coming...and the food was exquisite, but there wasn't very much of it. I had been waiting about 15 years to finally visit Bend and it was just as beautiful as I imagined. Chow was the perfect introduction to what life in Bend would be like, if I decided to move there. This little restaurant is nestled between tall trees in a cabin-like building filled with art, antiques and stained glass inside. We went there for breakfast one lovely Sunday morning in September. There was a small wait before we could be seated but there is a self-service coffee bar and a spacious front yard filled with chairs for soaking in the warm morning sun. We were seated after about 20 minutes and we got a table inside facing a beautiful stained-glass window. You can also choose to sit outside on their deck. There was a fireplace near our table and the whole place was decorated with funky art and antiques. It felt very bohemian and cozy. The food was amazing. They are very flexible with their breakfast menu and actually encourage you to suggest substitutions and make special requests. They accommodate those who are gluten-free, vegan, raw-only, vegetarian, etc. I had the 'Eggs ala Med' dish and it was scrumptious. It was two poached eggs over crispy herb polenta with spinach and roasted pepper hollandaise. Service was polite and attentive. They are very family-friendly. Food came out quickly.
