Getting solid Indian food was at the top of the list on my last visit to London, and Chourangi delivered! We were able to get seated as walk-ins for an early weeknight dinner, but typically, reservations fill up quickly. The menu includes a mix of classics and more inventive dishes, and my group of four ordered a couple of starters and a few larger plates to share. To begin, we ordered tandoori chicken and beet croquettes. The chicken was a tad salty, but the beet croquettes were excellent. Just the right amount of sweetness, spice, and crunch, we agreed the beets were one of the best dishes we tasted. Our next round included the tomato chicken curry (similar to butter chicken), eggplant in mustard sauce, aloo gobi, and naan. We absolutely inhaled every last morsel, but the unanimous favorite was the eggplant. You can rarely go wrong with sauteed eggplant, but Chourangi's eggplant dish featured a tangy and slightly sweet mustard sauce that was unlike anything we've ever tasted before. One of the members of our group, who typically detests eggplant, went back for second and third helpings. The tomato chicken curry was also delicious, and we had to order extra rice so none of the sauce went to waste.
Service was quick, although when we ordered water at the start of our meal, our server brought out bottled water instead of tap water - typically, tap water is the default, but we were not given a choice. Overall, the food was delicious - we actually tried to return to Chourangi on a different day, but the reservations were all booked. Next time! read more
