Great space, staff and service! Convenient parking and lots of great spots to grab a quick bite!

    Me and the DJ
    Michael James C.

I went this past Friday since I booked a ticket and have been wanting to try this place out for the entire two years that I've been in Seattle. The DJ/music was amazing-- house mixes. Younger crowd with lots of energy, and super versatile with the space: Bartop adjacent to dance floor with ample seating and staging and lounge space with bar. I'd recommend once they get a better security team. A large heavy set male security personnel guarding the rest room however had a chip on his shoulder that he definitely needs to eat. He tried to provoke a fight with me for asking another female security staff member if I had done something wrong because the large male was looming around me and watching my every move as after I went to pee and briefly explored the space. It was my first time there so I was looking around at the art and stuff. It gets one star due to his lack of workplace professionalism and inability to do his job effective outside of being the "muscle" due to his size. Far cry. Anyway, As far as vigilance, I can understand his stance of watching me (a single person in a club alone amongst other people). I've worked security in larger clubs before so I get where he was coming from, HOWEVER, for him to rush me, jab his finger into my collar bone in attempt to provoke me and literally threaten me with continued violence was impeccably childish. I guess he wanted to validate his anger at me voicing that his presence didn't make me feel safe or welcome. It is ridiculous that a grown man of his size thinks intimidation is on his side. Had I not been sober, my reflex to his hostility and physical hit would have been to left hook him square in the chin, but that would have started a fight and security would have more than likely used excessive force as illustrated by their apparent taste for control in this space cited by previous reviews. Ownership of this space should do better and he should definitely be removed from this job because he doesn't know how to conduct himself and regulate or control his emotions as a security staff member for a night club. In a nutshell, Believe the other reviews and do not waste your time or money going to this place-- it's a cool spot but not at all welcoming or safe so definitely not worth it.

really cute little interesting place. Good drinks and really friendly customer service! the music is a little retro but super fun. We went on a monday night so things were a little slow but still a very nice vibe! No complaints. Everything seemed clean and nice!

I never really do coat check because I'm paranoid about not having my things on me, but the one here is easy and reliable. The only real issue was the photo booth which only worked for the first half hour or so. I'm assuming it ran out of film or something because at some point, it just kept taking people's money without taking any photos, which was brought up to the staff. This isn't necessarily on Showbox since the photo booth is provided by a vendor, but I would've appreciated an "out of order" sign. If this happens to you, you can visit the vendor's website and call for a refund!

I have to look far and wide for anything like that in Seattle.(Still a native, so put down the pitch forks) Here it was. It was $25/person and my husband and I are trying to be prudent with money. It is very, very hard to save when you can't go out for less than $100 these days. I work in education so.... yeah. I thought we were late to the show so I asked for a discount on the cover. They said the band just started and they couldn't do that. I apologized and said I wasn't trying to haggle at all. The staff was very kind to us, even tho we were waffling. I've come to expect the cold front. The bartender who served me at the comedy show just before the Tavern refused to make any human contact. The touring production of The Phantom of the Opera at Paramount Theatre was absolutely fantastic…read more The cast was incredible, and the production itself deserved a much better audience environment than what the theater allowed. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst theater etiquette experiences I've ever had. During the first act, a man seated behind us repeatedly sang along during the performance. When I politely asked him to stop, the person next to him sarcastically pointed at the stage and said, "The show is over there," while the behavior continued. Around us, multiple people talked throughout songs and scenes, and later in the evening I even saw someone openly filming the show on an iPhone. I eventually had to leave my seats (Main Floor 2, Row G) and speak to management because the disruptions were so bad I couldn't focus on the performance. The only solution offered was seats in the very back of the orchestra. By that point, the experience was already frustrating enough that it took a while to calm down and enjoy the show again. What's most disappointing is that this is the SECOND time I've experienced terrible audience behavior at this theater. I previously saw Back to the Future here and dealt with nonstop talking during that performance too. I attend theater regularly in Southern California at Segerstrom Center for the Arts and also frequently see shows in New York City. Ushers there actively monitor audience behavior and quickly shut down disruptions. At the Paramount, it felt completely unmanaged. For the prices being charged -- around $350 for my tickets through Ticketmaster -- audience members should not have to deal with talking, singing, and filming throughout a Broadway performance. Amazing production. Extremely disappointing theater management and audience control.

Originally opened in 1934, the Blue Moon carries the kind of atmosphere you cannot recreate -- walls covered in decades of music, art, stickers, photographs, and stories. A dimly lit room packed with musicians, writers, artists, and people who genuinely appreciate creativity in its raw form. Throughout the night, the stage moved between live music, poetry, and performances from local artists while the crowd filled the tavern from the bar to the stage floor. Places like this remind me why independent art still matters. As an author traveling all over the United States -- and as someone who lived in the Seattle area for 2 1/2 years -- standing on that stage reading poetry from Purple Rose in a venue with this much history behind it was really something special. What I loved most was how welcoming the environment was. This is a very LGBTQ-friendly, art-friendly space where people genuinely support one another. If you are brand new to open mics or nervous about sharing your work for the first time, this is the kind of place where you will absolutely be shown kindness and encouragement. There were so many talented musicians, poets, and performers there, and you could really feel the appreciation for creativity throughout the room. The setup of the tavern itself is awesome. The stage and seating area wrap around the bar in almost a U-shape, so you can really choose your own vibe for the night. If you want to stay close to the performances and music, there is a dance floor and table area near the stage. If you want something more relaxed, you can hang back near the bar, have a drink, and still enjoy the atmosphere without being directly in the middle of everything. They also have a full bar, arcade games, board games, books to read, and even a small library on the shelves throughout the tavern. Somewhere inside, you may even find a signed copy of Purple Rose that I left hidden and dedicated to the historic Blue Moon itself. Beautiful evening with wonderful people. If you are ever in the area and have a skill you would love to share, go share your art. Find your copy of Purple Rose at JamesVThePoet.com

I, my wife, and her friend stopped by for New Year's Drinks around 6, and about 6:30 or so, made the mistake of asking Tim Duvall, the clearly drunken before 7:00 PM owner of the establishment, whether outside food can be brought into the bar. This led to his regaling us with an extended and utterly unsolicited history of the bar. He then invited himself to sit with us, halfway into the seat before slurring a "Can I sit down?" to insert himself into our booth. We then moved to another unsolicited conversation, this time about politics. Now, to be clear - I have no doubt that I and a sober Tim Duvall probably agree on most of our politics. This did not stop him from berating me as I agreed with his point, loudly escalating and yelling as I tried to agree with him (again... to be clear, I DIDN'T disagree his political view) until he stood and began yelling that I was kicked out. As I stood to talk on him, he became VERY comfortable with putting his hands on me, grabbing my sweatshirt to move me. I was NOT about to challenge that as a Black man new to Seattle that doesn't know how the police would handle things. I need to be very specific about how quickly this man felt comfortable touching me, grabbing my sweater to "drag" me. This is the step that is WAY over the line. I would genuinely like to recommend this place, as I'm looking for bars that offer sugar cane soda. Drunken ownership- in the early evening in New Year's - that feels comfortable being handsy with Black folk is far too much. AVOID at all costs.
