Tofu soup-mushrooms
Ellie N.

The seasoning of the pork galbi is just so on point. It's super tender and perfectly charred. The wait is a little long because I think they ran out of rice? The restaurant was empty but we waited almost 40 mins for our food to come out. The rice was only 90% cooked, but we left the cover on and it was perfectly cooked afterwards.or did they make it fresh for each customer? I'm not so sure. But the quality of the food is there, so it's still a 5-star for me despite the waiting time

A very family friendly Korean food eatery the service is top notch and the food was just OK. If your other choice of restaurant have a long wait time and you are hungry, come here for your second choice. This is how I end up eat here for dinner with my family because our first choice had a long wait list. If you are sitting at the big table the call for service button is on the side and your utensil are in a drawer on the side too.

Might be one of the best in Katy-- the soondoobu was great and the fish was tender! The side dishes paired wonderfully and we recognized some of the staff here from our prior favorite Korean restaurant in Houston! Cheers!

There's free boricha (barley tea, hot or iced) in aluminum cups with silicone sleeves. The meal ends with a semi-frozen yogurt drink. The utensils (takeaway chopsticks, metal spoons, napkins) are in the drawer on the side of the table. There's a button to push for assistance, but the workers only attended to it a few times. The banchan had a variety of flavors. There was typical Korean side salad, fishcakes, and soy sauce-pickled jalapeño-cucumber-daikon. The broccoli salad was soft and seemed to have tofu mixed in. There was blanched green cabbage with a spicy side dip. The kimchi was crunchy. I got the combo tofu soup and grilled mackerel. The seafood (medium-sized clam, shrimp, mussels) tofu soup (hot) was flavorful and came with a raw egg to crack. It had chopped onion and zucchini. The seafood pieces were a good sizeand tender. The mackerel half was huge, thick, moist, and crispy. The flavor was really good after a few days too. It was accompanied by sliced white onion and a lemon wedge. A wooden lid covered the rice, which was in a metal bowl in a wooden stand. I was surprised it retained its heat really well. There were tables and wooden seat booths with towel-like seats. They have deli containers for soup leftovers and foam boxes for other food.

Bibim naengmyeon

I've been to Cho Dang Gol a handful of times now and have seen noticeable improvements in food quality and service. It has since become one of my go-to Korean restaurants in Katy Asia Town. The restaurant is located in a plaza with plenty of parking. The interior is spacious and clean. Chopsticks, utensils, and napkins can be found in the drawer built into the table. There's also a service bell you can ring to get your server's attention. For soondubu, I usually order the dumpling soondubu with mild spice. It's not too salty and has just a slight kick. The soondubu comes with white rice and an egg. The tofu is soft, and the plump, bite-sized dumplings soak up the flavorful broth wonderfully. Lately, I've been ordering the bibim naengmyeon. The noodles are very chewy. The gochujang sauce is savory and not too spicy. I really like the thinly sliced apples and cucumbers on top. You can adjust the taste to your liking with vinegar and mustard. The side dishes are okay, though I find them to be a little too salty for my taste. If you're in the area and craving Korean food, I'd say Cho Dang Gol is worth a visit!

Solid traditional Korean meal. Everything was delicious and none of the dishes missed. I wouldn't go out of my way to get anything specific here but you can bet on having a good meal if you do decide to dine here. My favorite was the LA Galbi - the perfect balance of sweet and savory without being dry or too fatty. The raw marinated crab had good seasoning but the crab was small and cut into a lot of tiny pieces. It satisfied the craving but maybe I'd rather get another order of Galbi instead. I would pass on the fried dumpling appetizer, just like freezer dumplings put in the deep fryer

Came in at 9:30p and restaurant closes at 10pm. They actually already shut down the kitchen. Since we were super hungry and only wanted tofu soup (which is incidentally the only thing they will serve), we asked the waitress to let us come in. Luckily, we were seated but we got the feeling that they felt they were doing us a favor. The dining tables have drawers that contain utensils and napkins. There is also a button that is used to call waitstaff. Tofu soup came piping hot..accompanied with steaming rice in the hot pot. Be careful not to burn yourself. Soup had loads of tofu and enough meat. There is also a small but good selection of banchan and the fried fish was meaty. We've had better tofu soup elsewhere so we will probably not come back for soup here. If you do dine here, just make sure you come way before closing time.

Dumpling soup combo with fried dumplings

We came right as they opened and they were still setting up for the day. They brought us cups of water and then a cup of ice later to put into the water (was already cold but not ice cold I guess?). Utensils and things we might need were in a side drawer under the table. She brought out things we needed but we were able to grab additional napkins and chopsticks as we needed. There was a bell that you could push to ask for her server. It basically chimed over the speakers and then read your table number so the whole restaurant knew you needed help. Lol. We did not use it after figuring that out after the first time. We ordered the combo dumpling tofu soup and the fried dumplings and then another bowl of the regular (beef and pork) tofu soup. The combo came with five side dishes that were okay. We did not eat that much of it. Our soups came with the crispy Korean rice, a raw egg that we cracked into the bowl, and a small salted fried fish. The soups were really good and went well with the rice and fish. There wasn't that much meat in the soups and about four dumplings in the soup, but a ton of tofu. It was a really filling meal. I would come here again to try more dishes! My husband ordered regular spice and I did the second level up. It was the perfect amount of spicy for us. Some bites were Spicer than others. If you can't take spice, order without any.

I came here again today and while the dumpling soup and the vegetarian soup was good, I was in a shock of finding a live small cockroach scurrying across the ladle of the tteokbokki and onto our table. The servers were nice/ caring and were able to give us a discount on our meal, which I am Grateful for. Aside from that, the banchan was great and I do like how they serve the rice in a wooden pot. They are also able to take out certain ingredients if you are allergic or have dietary restrictions.

Food here is alright but service is quick and the ahjummas are nice. We ordered the mandu, tonkatsu, rose tteokbokki, and naengmyeon. The tonkatsu was crispy and came out hot, but there was nothing special about it. The rose tteokbokki was a lot creamier than I thought it would be, I do prefer a little more spice to it, but it was perfect for my friend. The mandu was standard and tasted best when dipped in the rose sauce. The naengmyeon was pretty bland in my opinion and I had to add quite a bit of vinegar to it.

Gopchang Soon tofu & side dishes

I went with some friends for a weekend lunch. We got the goochang soon tofu and the donkatsu. Overall, the interior was very clean and neat. It reminded me of restaurants in Korea. I loved how they had a bell on the side of the table to order. The silverware and napkins were all on the side of the table as well. I enjoyed having the complementary barley tea for waters. They give you the option of hot or cold. The side dishes were all super delicious and I loved how they gave such a variety. Especially liked the fried fish and the potato salad. My tofu soup was a little burnt at the bottom, which was a little disappointing. I got the spicy and my friend got the regular spice and they were all a good level of spice. You have to scoop out the rice and put some hot water in the stone bowl which was a great addition to finish off the meal. The food was a little more on the pricier side but would recommend to visit for a good korean restaurant.

Solid Korean tofu soup restaurant, but unfortunately not the same Cho Dang Gol as the popular New York location. Nor is it to be confused with Cho Dang Village in Dallas. While they serve a larger variety of dishes than our existing Korean soondubu restaurants in Houston, such as grilled pork ribs, pork cheese katsu, and raw marinated crab to name a few, it still feels like they fell short in a couple areas. The LA Galbi, the standard go to dish for any restaurant with kbbq on the menu, was perfectly flavored and juicy. BUT when you order it with the combo, it only comes with FIVE pieces... for $30!! Yes you get a couple side dishes and a huge bowl of rice. But $30 for 5 pieces of meat and a soup with cheap frozen veggies/seafood is not a fair deal in my books. BCD in Dallas give you 6 pieces in their combo for $25 lunch price. SGD in Houston gives you 6 pieces for $28 dinner price. Both from my personal experience, and both serve you just as many side dishes and rice. The Spicy Pork Ribs was tender, but not quite what I expected. Part of it was due to my personal taste of not being able to eat spicy, but I was also expecting the meat to be a bit more juicy chewy rather than falling apart like pulled pork. Like the grilled pork ribs I had at Cho Dang Village. No one in our large group of 8 expressed any ecstatic feelings towards the meal, but didn't complain about the food either. #333

Galbi
Uyen V.

We both got the soup & LA galbi combo. The kimchi soup I had & my boyfriend's tofu soup were both bland - we would give those a 4/10. The LA galbi we had was a 8/10 - flavor was AMAZING but I can't justify giving it any higher because we didn't get much meat on it. It seems like scraps to us. I liked the rose tteokbokki but my boyfriend said it was bland as well. I would give it a 6.5/10. Service was good and the inside was really clean and spacious.

Amazing service and the food was the best korean food I've ever had. I would recommend the galbi and the tofu food soup.

The menu is big, but every item on it is executed so well. The flavors are comparable to that you'll get in Korea, with the side dishes few but perfect (the kimchi, jjangachi, and radish kimchi). My favorite is the gamjatang---there is so much meat, the potatoes are piping hot, and the soup is perfectly seasoned and rich. The pancakes and blood sausages are also delicious. I love coming here whenever I crave authentic Korean food: everything from the service to the meal itself is top-tier. The prices are also very very reasonable, especially lunch prices! Parking is plentiful and it's right off the freeway. You have to come here for the best Korean food in the area---I drive all the way from the Medical Center to come here, and it never disappoints!

As soon I stepped into the restaurant, I was hit with delicious aromas of KBBQ and seafood sizzling at the tables. There were plenty of veggies (cabbage) and squid. The shrimp were small and kind of mushy - probably from a frozen bag or just not fresh. I didn't mind though. The serving size of noodles were perfect, and maybe a little bit more than I wanted since I couldn't finish the whole bowl. The jiajiangmein looked equally as delicious - my friend said there was a lot of onion in the sauce. The array of banchan consisted of kimchi, marinated bean sprouts, cold kimchi pancake, and marinated spicy cucumber. Yummy banchan as well. Tasty Ko is a great spot if you're not wanting to drive all the way to the Spring Branch area for Korean food, and not wanting to spend an arm and a leg at Katy Asian Town. A thick noodle is used for the Japchae which held on to the flavor really well and provided more of a bite. The Jajang Myeon and Soup were absolutely bursting with flavor - bold, rich, and truly satisfying. They perfectly captured the essence of what these dishes should taste like: delivering a home-cooked taste at restaurant quality. As typical of Korean restaurant, every meal comes with an assortment of banchan. The kimchi was perfection and it seems like there are unlimited refills for the banchan. Let's not forget that this is a Pocha! There are lots of drink options and they are open late. This also makes for a great place for large groups and seating ranges from open tables or private booths for those looking for something more private. There is an open stage where I suppose open-mic karaoke used to take place, but as of 01/2025 management has put up signs stating it's currently not in use due to noise complaints from the neighbors. Still, there are plenty of private karaoke rooms to be put to use. This place is a hidden gem - it seems like a well-kept secret tucked away in this little neighborhood. I really hope the place gets more traffic in the future. They really deserve it! Overall really great place to come chill at with friends they've got the food, drinks, and karaoke covered.

We love the team and their service. Our last visit was little off or not pleasant as in our first meat was really bad to an extent it was chewy and we had to throw it away. It's a big place and they have many seatings plus they have music but not loud nor noisy. The other thing was that our server was way too busy and focused on other table or they were short staffed during afternoon and the place was empty not packed nor busy. Our food was either burned or not cooked so we actually did majority of cooking but we still tipped 20%. We enjoyed our soup and I wish they included kimchi chigey or army stew with all you can eat. We will be back again hopefully it gets better.

They typically speak English, are friendlier, and address you as sir or ma'am. The young staff are the ones hosting, ordering, and handling the bill. The older staff are the ones cooking your meat in front of you. It's a hit or miss as I have been here and another location multiple times. Not all, but some of the cooking staff are very hasty to cook as they jump from table to table. They splattered oil (which can happen) and didn't apologize about the incident. No acknowledgment. The older staff are not as friendly. But again, I have seen moments, where they are so considerate, and cook at another table (other table was empty). Could be a language barrier thing also. I prefer that they slow down on the cooking, or even allow me to cook myself. 2. Price - we roughly paid $90 for 3 people. 1 meat dishes is roughly $30. 3. Ambiance - as soon as you walk in, you smell the aroma of grilled meat. You get a sporty bar vibe with metal tables, neon lights everywhere, but if I recall correctly, there are sport channels on tv. Haha. Instead they have KPop music videos playing on tv. Dress code here is casual. Table is small for this type of food. 4. Food - They have combination deals, but we opted to order individually. We decided to add as we needed more. For a party of 2.5, we had about 3 meat dishes. That was more than enough. If this is your first time, I recommend to get their BEEF BRISKET, PORK GALBI, and THINLY SLICED PORK BELLY. You get one bowl of rice per order of meat dish. You have to pay extra for any extra bowls of rice. The meal was good each time we come! 5. Cleanliness - dining area and restrooms are clean. SUMMARY: I do recommend this place for Korean BBQ.
