This was an okay place for Americanized Chinese food but expect sweeter flavors in all the dishes. I came for lunch with 3 others around 11:30 am on a Friday and was one of the first tables seated. It's definitely a popular lunch spot, as it filled up quite a bit by the time we left. The restaurant is a good size with natural lighting in the daytime. I had somewhat high expectations since it's so highly rated, but it definitely caters to American tastes. None of us were particularly impressed and probably won't be coming back. We ordered 4 dishes to share: Garlic shrimp ($21.55 for large) Black bean fish fillet ($22.25) Szechwan pork ($18.55 for large) Garlic chicken ($18.55 for large) Sadly all the dishes looked about the same when they were served, in a brown sauce. Only the protein and the accompanying veggies were different, though all dishes had bell peppers and onions as the main veggies. The taste wasn't that different between the dishes either, tbh. Everything was on the sweeter side, even the black bean fish which normally is a very savory dish. At least the fish was more savory than the others. Because of this, it was my favorite dish of the meal. The Schewan pork was sweet and a litle bit sour, while the shrimp and chicken in garlic sauce didn't have any garlic taste at all. Very disappointing. Even though we got large for 3 of the dishes, the portions were smaller than we expected. If I didn't know better I would've thought they were the small portion. At least we got complimentary soup (your choice of chicken corn or hot and sour), house salad, and rice with our meal since we came for lunch (11-3 daily).

Came here early, Saturday night, for dinner. This place is busy. Lots of takeout orders. Our wait was about 10 minutes. Once seated we decided on the dim sum sampler. Everything on the platter was really good and tasted like it was house made. The walnut shrimp dish was a table favorite. Crispy shrimp coated with a sauce and candied walnuts added nice crunch. The king pao was spicy but the dish still had great flavor. Unfortunately the vegetable chow mein lacked any flavor. Service was kind of slow but they were busy. Overall a solid meal. We will return to try other offerings

We had lunch here on a weekday afternoon and were seated promptly. We enjoyed the siu mai dim sum, hot and sour soup, and the scallion pancake (same with a peanut type sauce on the side) and the Chef's special that day which was ground beef or pork (I can't remember), noodles, savory sauce, scallions, and thin slices of cucumber. Atmosphere was cozy and service was attentive. Located in a plaza. The parking lot can get very busy and there are some street parking.

First thing to be aware of, the parking is chaotic due to the number of shops in the center. Luckily, this restaurant is in the corner so street parking is an option available. Walking in, we were automatically greeted and sat in the lobby til our table of 7 was ready. This spot is ideal for a few large parties or a smaller group. Given the portions for the food, best to go in with people who like to share and then you can try several plates. Server was friendly but there was a bit of a language barrier that led to some back and forth when putting in our order. Beverages are limited but they do have some wine and beer options. I went with lemonade due to unlimited refills. To eat, I liked the chefs calamari (may be a little too salty for some), orange chicken, and the walnut shrimp. We ordered additional plates but you want to be mindful. Like I said, they're large and filled us pretty quickly.

Saw this chinese place in northridge and tried date night with wife. The service was top notch , which was a rare sight for chinese restaurant. The food was good. We wanted to try a local xiao long bao place, and it did the trick for a quick craving satisfaction. Mongolian beef was on point with their sauce. Delicious, sweet, and tangy for the beef. Walnut shrimp was creamy and shrimp pairs well with walnut. Dish that goes down easily with rice. Overall, wife and I were impressed and will come back if chinese craving hits again.

The staff was in a great mood and instantly greeted me as soon as I walked in. The place was packed and I could see why. The food was clean, service was quick. Definitely recommend the sweet and pungent chicken as well as the chicken with vegetable soup.

Chi's has improved. The food is still good and the staff is friendly. Steamed rice isn't a separate charge anymore and the portions appear to have increased. The lunch menu is also a great deal. My mom was very impressed with the hot and sour soup. It is still loud inside, even with only a few patrons.

Chi's is one of my favorite Chinese food restaurants in the valley. It's clean, spacious, and modern. The food is made fresh and I enjoy every bite. It can get very busy in the evenings and weekends, which makes parking challenging. Their service is friendly and they try and sit you as promptly as possible. My favorites are their chow fun noodles and cashew nut chicken with the white meat option. The only complaint I've recently had is that the last two times, they've brought out my cashew chicken without the cashews. I made a comment both times and they fixed the order. Like I said, good, friendly, service and I will continue coming and recommend this spot for great food!

The waitress asked if we wanted anything to drink, so we asked for iced water, and it came really quick. The menu is decent, with a decent selection. It's very basic Chinese menu items. Inside is very clean and spacious. We ordered: Sweet and sour chicken Fried pork chops with spicy salt Beef chow fun Yang chow fried rice Everything was great! The Sweet and sour chicken hits the spot, without being over-flavoring. The chicken pieces are a good size and they are well-fried. The pork chops were perfect too! Not overly salty. The beef chow fun was great too! The yang chow fried rice was a bit salty, but eating it with everything else was fine. If there was less salt in that fried rice, it would have been a perfectly good dining experience. Anyway, I would recommend this place. It is good.

Most of the takes are round which is the best for group dining and conversation. On top of the round table, each one came with a lazy Susan for easy sharing of dishes. The staff was super friendly and attentive which is great. The menu is basic and easy to read with a simple layout but nice options. So why three stars? Well the food was hit or miss on this day. It was the first time I've eaten at hot wok. But others in the party frequent the restaurant. One person ordered the sizzling rice soup and said it had been better on other occasions. For the tale we ordered a pork dumpling starter, which was fine. Our main dishes were the orange chicken that was good. The kung pao chicken that was bad. A tad dry and flavorless. Ma Po tofu for a vegan eater which the said wasn't the best representation and for some reason the kitchen didn't add onions to help it be vegan. We had vegetable chow fun noodles that were good. We had sautéed green beans that were sautéed with ginger and not garlic which weee bad. You add it up and there's your three stars. I'd eat there again but be more directive on how I'd want the dishes done if possible.

The menu was on laminated paper which must be a few years old and felt disgusting to touch. I started with hot tea and it was served in a metal cup. I wish they served it in a nice ceramic container for customer's enjoyment. For lunch, we ordered chicken chow mein and their pork and crab dumpling (like a xiao long bao). The chicken chow mein had a boatload of cabbage and probably 10 strips of chow mein noodles. It should have been called cabbage noodles (lol). The pork and crab dumplings would have been a hit, but the dumpling shell had a "soapy" smell. The meat inside was soft and tasted good, but I couldn't get over the smell of the shell. We would have also wanted to try seaweed salad, but it was unavailable on this day. The parking at Northern Cafe is plenty. The staff is also courteous. But given the state of the food and overall feel, I give it only two stars. Truthfully, you can find better Chinese food close by this area. There's Maru Ramen on Reseda and Nordhoff, or Silverlake Ramen on Rinaldi. And no, I don't work for either of those places. All of this feedback is based on customer experience.

Everything I had was laden with this heavy, greasy, fattening stuff. If you're a fan of cooking oil, this is your go-to spot for sure. I had the "gourmet" dinner. That means Mongolian beef, my usual in basic old-school Chinese places like this. I chose won ton soup over the seafood soup choice. The broth was fine, but the won tons were thick and doughy. Not great. The beef seemed of a decent quality, but was absolutely floating in oil. This made the green and white onions too soft and mushy and dripping with oil. Ditto the very messy foil wrapped chicken appetizer, but the egg roll was okay, if bland. There are plenty of excellent choices for all types of Chinese cuisine in the Valley. No need to come here. Again though, remember I only had one dish, but I have an idea it's indicative of the entire menu.

Beef noodle soup: to be very blunt, this was quite flavorless. The beef was dry as bones and looked like it was sliced with a mandoline. The noodles seemed undercooked and it felt like I was eating al dente spaghetti noodles. I got a medium spice level which didn't even seem that spicy, just a lot of cough inducing chili oil with no burn. Pan fried dumplings were ok. It honestly tasted like it was deep fried and not pan fried. Unsweetened black tea: hands down the best of the 3 things in the combo, which is quite telling. Honestly you get a decent amount of food for $15. But to constantly take the top 5 for recommended on Yelp in this area and waste my time to even look at it, it definitely doesn't belong remotely close to top 10.
