My first time ordering steamed fish and I worried it might be bland. Surprisingly, it was full of flavor. Our server, Luis, was helpful and helped us navigate the menu. Parking in this shopping plaza is next to impossible at dinner time and on weekends. There are too many popular businesses there. Street parking is also next to impossible. Venue 3 stars: Larger, modern indoor seating area and a good sized waiting area which is a blessing as you often end up waiting for a long time :D. No outdoor seating. I have noticed that you end up waiting 15-30 minutes and longer even when there are tables available. Perhaps get more servers for peak times? The place has a nice, welcoming atmosphere, and the menu offers plenty of options whether you're in the mood for something familiar or want to try something different. I love their braised string beans as well as the garlic chicken as well as their sole filet. The portions are generous, and the food is flavorful without being overly complicated. It has that neighborhood restaurant feel where you can sit down, relax, and enjoy a satisfying meal without all the fuss. I can't believe I lived here all these years and I've never been to Chi's Chinese Cuisine. Really good attentive service and tasty food here. The Shanghai Dumplings are savory and the soy sauce is excellent. The Orange Chicken is really a must have. It's not your fast food or chain restaurant orange chicken, and at the same time, it didn't feel greasy or heavy. Just packed with sweet, orange flavor. The Zha Jiang Mian (Beijing black bean noodle) is quite interesting. It's not sweet, but not too salty or sour. It's savory with its sauce with a hint of the saltiness from the pork and tofu. I have to say though I thought the black bean sauce was more watery than I expected. It could be a little thicker, but it's a minor point. read more

The portions were generous, and the meal was very filling. Unfortunately, I forgot my server's name, but he was polite, attentive, and knew the menu very well. He helped me choose what to order. Now the disappointment - I found metal in my food (maybe from steel cleaning utensil) totally ruined my experience. The good thing when I called today to warn them of this, they were polite and seemed concerned enough to look into it. They offered a refund when I told them I would be posting a review on yelp. We will see. . . Oh and they had an A rating so there's that. This was an okay place for Americanized Chinese food but expect sweeter flavors in all the dishes. I came for lunch with 3 others around 11:30 am on a Friday and was one of the first tables seated. It's definitely a popular lunch spot, as it filled up quite a bit by the time we left. The restaurant is a good size with natural lighting in the daytime. I had somewhat high expectations since it's so highly rated, but it definitely caters to American tastes. None of us were particularly impressed and probably won't be coming back. We ordered 4 dishes to share: Garlic shrimp ($21.55 for large) Black bean fish fillet ($22.25) Szechwan pork ($18.55 for large) Garlic chicken ($18.55 for large) Sadly all the dishes looked about the same when they were served, in a brown sauce. Only the protein and the accompanying veggies were different, though all dishes had bell peppers and onions as the main veggies. The taste wasn't that different between the dishes either, tbh. Everything was on the sweeter side, even the black bean fish which normally is a very savory dish. At least the fish was more savory than the others. Because of this, it was my favorite dish of the meal. The Schewan pork was sweet and a litle bit sour, while the shrimp and chicken in garlic sauce didn't have any garlic taste at all. Very disappointing. Even though we got large for 3 of the dishes, the portions were smaller than we expected. If I didn't know better I would've thought they were the small portion. At least we got complimentary soup (your choice of chicken corn or hot and sour), house salad, and rice with our meal since we came for lunch (11-3 daily). read more

We've been coming to Chi's Chinese for over 25 years, and it is hands-down the best Chinese food around. Truly a local gem. They have indoor seating, but we very often order takeout--and it's always just as fresh and delicious. Every item is consistently great, never greasy, and full of flavor. Our favorites are the shrimp rolls, kung pao chicken, beef and broccoli, sweet and pungent shrimp or chicken, and the chow mein. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Quality and consistency are what keep us coming back year after year. The parking lot can get busy, but it's fairly large and we usually don't have an issue finding a spot. Walking in, we were automatically greeted and sat in the lobby til our table of 7 was ready. This spot is ideal for a few large parties or a smaller group. Given the portions for the food, best to go in with people who like to share and then you can try several plates. Server was friendly but there was a bit of a language barrier that led to some back and forth when putting in our order. Beverages are limited but they do have some wine and beer options. Came here early, Saturday night, for dinner. This place is busy. Lots of takeout orders. Our wait was about 10 minutes. Once seated we decided on the dim sum sampler. Everything on the platter was really good and tasted like it was house made. The walnut shrimp dish was a table favorite. Crispy shrimp coated with a sauce and candied walnuts added nice crunch. My order wasn't on the menu but when I asked the server Joe for more tofu dishes he suggested kung pao tofu. I loved my soup. It was like egg drop soup with little bits of chicken and lots of corn. Kung pao tofu was perfect. I requested less spicy. Big serving. Definitely better to order family style to share. Our server Joe was very nice and helpful. I love coming here for lunch because they have a really great lunch deal. One of my favorite dishes is the shrimp with walnuts it's hard to find that dish done well at other places, but they do it really good here. The tea is also so fresh and tasty! Chi's is one of my favorite Chinese food restaurants in the valley. It's clean, spacious, and modern. The food is made fresh and I enjoy every bite. It can get very busy in the evenings and weekends, which makes parking challenging. Their service is friendly and they try and sit you as promptly as possible. My favorites are their chow fun noodles and cashew nut chicken with the white meat option. The only complaint I've recently had is that the last two times, they've brought out my cashew chicken without the cashews. I made a comment both times and they fixed the order. Love this Chinese Restaurant, not too far from CSUN. I've invited several of my friends & family to have lunch and/or dinner there. It's worth the drive from Granada Hills to have a nice lunch in a nice quiet setting. They have lunch specials at a reasonable price; and they are always willing to pack up any of your leftovers to take home. Would definitely order the Black Pepper Beef again. The Sweet and Pungent chicken was not spicy as stated on the menu, definitely sweet though. The Shanghai Dumplings were not a great hit, there was a lack of flavor and the outside was too sticky. Also ordered the Thai tea (not pictured) and it was average. This used to be my favorite Chinese restaurant, that I would recommend to others, however, after last night I will never go or recommend this place again. The quality of the food was dramatically lower from the last time we came. Four of the dishes, black bean fish, chef's special noodle, Mongolian beef, and a pork dish, were really bland. the fish dish wasn't prepared correctly with the center undercooked and the outside over cooked (I.e. not properly thawed). The worst food prep problem however, is I don't think they cooked/prepped the wood ear mushrooms in the pork dish correctly. My spouse and I, who both ate that dish, suffered through a painful night because of it. Luckily, none of our kids ate the wood ear mushrooms. The host and front service was good, but the actual meal service was severely lacking. The waitress only came near our table when we had finished. We had needed more rice (6 people -one bowl of rice) but gave up trying to flag the waitress down. It was just my spouse and our 4 kids but that apparently is a large party, so automatically was charged 20% tip. I feel like the waitress knew she was getting 20% and felt no need to do anything but the absolute minimum. For Xmas our family decided to get Chinese take out. Every so often we'll do that to eliminate the dish washing duties during the holidays and will attempt to try a different place.
