Inside is very clean and spacious. We ordered: Sweet and sour chicken Fried pork chops with spicy salt Beef chow fun Yang chow fried rice Everything was great! The Sweet and sour chicken hits the spot, without being over-flavoring. The chicken pieces are a good size and they are well-fried. The pork chops were perfect too! Not overly salty. The beef chow fun was great too! The yang chow fried rice was a bit salty, but eating it with everything else was fine. You take the good, you take the bad, you add it up and the you'll have, a three star review. I love the space. Most of the takes are round which is the best for group dining and conversation. On top of the round table, each one came with a lazy Susan for easy sharing of dishes. The staff was super friendly and attentive which is great. The menu is basic and easy to read with a simple layout but nice options. So why three stars? Well the food was hit or miss on this day. It was the first time I've eaten at hot wok. But others in the party frequent the restaurant. One person ordered the sizzling rice soup and said it had been better on other occasions. For the tale we ordered a pork dumpling starter, which was fine. Our main dishes were the orange chicken that was good. The kung pao chicken that was bad. A tad dry and flavorless. Ma Po tofu for a vegan eater which the said wasn't the best representation and for some reason the kitchen didn't add onions to help it be vegan. We had vegetable chow fun noodles that were good. We had sautéed green beans that were sautéed with ginger and not garlic which weee bad. You add it up and there's your three stars. I generally avoid posting negative reviews, but occasionally an experience is bad enough that it deserves to be documented. I ordered Uber Eats from Hot Wok on Christmas. While I understand that holidays are busy, Christmas in Los Angeles reliably means high demand for Chinese takeout from both Jewish families and many Christians. This is predictable volume, not an unexpected surge. I placed our order at 4:46 PM, with an estimated delivery time of 45 minutes. Instead, the delivery driver waited at the restaurant for over two hours, and the food was ultimately delivered at 8:08 PM. That is more than three hours from order to delivery. According to the driver, the restaurant became overwhelmed and chose not to cancel the order. Instead, they left it in queue while repeatedly telling the driver "15 more minutes," for over two hours. During this time, I attempted to call the restaurant more than three times without an answer. Uber customer service also attempted to reach the restaurant with no response. When the food finally arrived, our fried rice was missing. By that point, there was nothing I could do, as I had already contacted Uber and received a partial credit due to the extreme delay. Despite spending over $100, the overall experience was deeply frustrating. Leaving a delivery driver waiting for more than two hours is unacceptable, and I ultimately tipped far more than usual because I felt so bad for the situation he was put in. This could have been avoided if the restaurant had paused orders or canceled those they could not fulfill in a reasonable time. Instead, both the myself, and the driver were left stuck. Good spot for your old-school, 90's decor, Chinese restaurant. The space is pretty spacious with 20 some tables and the customer service is friendly, efficient and they prepare your food pretty fast. Personally, I really enjoy their garlic chicken, which during lunch comes with rice and hot and sour soup. The garlic chicken dish is very flavorful, the chicken has a good amount of savory garlic sauce on it and it just melts in your mouth with every bite. It's very juicy and you can taste the quality and freshness of the chicken. The portion is pretty generous as well. This is definitely my go to spot in the area when I feel like some Chinese food. I came with my girlfriend for lunch, she eats at Hot Wok regularly with her husband for many years. She said that it was the best Chinese restaurant in the area, and there were several Chinese restaurants that I had spotted on the east there that were nearby. My friend, greeted the waiter, Eric, cheerfully, and we were quickly seated at the last remaining booth, the other booths were already were filled up with dining patrons. The extensive menu has several pages of dishes to choose from, and while I wanted to order more dishes, my stomach was already full that morning from having a large breakfast. We ordered a bowl each of hot and sour soup, a stir-fried green beans with chicken dish, white rice, and my favorite Shanghai vermicelli noodles with shrimp and small slices of Chinese Barbecue pork. The food was delicious, and met all my cravings for the moment. The wait staff were very attentive in refilling our pot of hot tea, and took away our dishes when we finished them. My good friend and I were able to enjoy a good conversation and catch up on our lives, as we happily dined. I recommend that you bring a friend when you come here, it's a very cozy restaurant and was quite busy. It was not noisy, so you could have a good heart-to-heart talk with your close friends here. The food was tasty and when I come here again, I'll make sure to have a bigger appetite, so that I can sample more dishes. We checked out Hot Wok Cafe through recommendations from friends. Restaurant is big with plenty of booths and table seating that can accommodate a large party. We enjoyed the vegetable low mein which was a favorite for the kids. The cashew chicken and steamed fish with ginger and green onions came with white rice. It's been a while since I have been here, but something was pulling me, to go there for lunch. When you walk in and see lots of Chinese people in a Chinese restaurant, you know you are in the right place. There's Chinese love songs being played in the background, simple but elegant seating in the dining room and an attractive menu with pictures of all the enticing and colorful dishes. It was difficult to choose. They also have the lunch special on a Saturday, and one of my favorites, the fish fillet with black bean sauce. It comes with a soup and I chose the egg flower soup. For a dollar extra you could get the fried rice instead of steamed rice. The fish in black bean sauce was generous in portion, tender (melting in your mouth), succulent, nice and peppery, full of mixed flavors, had good color and was cooked with onions, green peppers (all nice and crunchy), and mushrooms. The fried rice was tasty and the egg flower soup was probably one of the best I've had. Service was scanty, but attentive and caring. I cannot believe why it took me so long to come back here. there is more to choose from in the menu. I am impressed. On rainy days, my wife and I like to sneak away before we have to pick up the kids from school and get an early dinner together. We came here for the lunch special, which is offered every day between 11 AM and 3 PM. They have plenty of options to choose from. We ordered the Cashew Chicken and the Kung Pao Chicken, which are both very delicious dishes that come with a side of rice. They have a lot of choices, just like any other Chinese restaurant. Most of the time I get the orange chicken, but this time I decided to try something new with the cashew chicken. I don't think I liked it as much as the orange chicken I normally get. My wife got the Kung Pao Chicken, and she said she thinks they might have changed something about the meat, but we're not sure what it is. We also both got the egg drop soup I think that's what they call it and it was really good, especially on a cold, rainy day. The service here is pretty average and what you would expect from a Chinese sit-down restaurant. You can dine in or order over the phone and take it to go. The ambience is also what you'd expect from a typical Chinese restaurant. This is actually the place we order from every Christmas Eve. Would I recommend this place? Yes, it's worth a try. I've been in the valley for a while and seeing this Chinese restaurant but have not tried the place even if my friend was telling me it is really good and taste authentic. Yesterday, I decided to check out their menu and called to place an order for pick up. I got their popular "Singapore Noodles", "Honey Walnut Shrimp" and "Salt and Pepper Crispy Porkchop". The guy who took my order over the phone was really nice and I think he is also the same person who assisted me when I came to pickup my order. The place inside is nice, it is neat with lots of tables. Now the food review part, Singapore Noodles - wow! My new favorite! Decents amount of serving and lots of shrimp and bbq pork. It isn't spicy at all and you can taste the curry which I loved!! Honey Walnut Shrimp - really this dish has always been my fave and I like theirs because they put the shrimps on top of the pineappleas instead of brocolli and it adds more sweetness flavor. The put the walnuts aside sonit stays crunchyZ. Salt & Pepper Porkchops - so delish!! It isn't salty at all unlike from other restaurants. It isn't spice either and they don't put much of jalapenos actually - personally I prefer more jalapenos since I love eating those with this porkchops. I heard about this place online and decided to check it out last weekend. We did an online takeout order. There is a 5 percent coupon for using their app which I appreciate - especially since there was a dollar convenience fee charged which is one of my pet peeves. It's easier to order online for the restaurant and the customer - it's the cost of doing business. We kept it simple and orders dumplings, chicken with veggies and bbq pork fried rice. Portions were generous and the rice packed with bits of bbq pork. This dish was our favorite Chicken and vegetables was good but the veggies overcooked for my tastes. Could have been because they cooked more on the drive home. It was loaded with very tender chicken and was tasty Order was ready when we got there although looking at the app looks like the default for asap is 25 minutes so that could account for the overdone veg The dumplings were fried so they were a little greasy - wish they were steamed or pan fried. I'm really impressed by Hot Wok. I ordered the Orange Chicken with white rice, Beef Lo Mein, and Roast Pork Fried Rice. I appreciated the pictures included on their online menu as a visual person. It was delivered hot and packed to the brim in their containers as you can see in the photos. Happy it came with 3 fortune cookies but no utensils. The orange chicken was flavorful and I kept going back for more of the pork fried rice. The beef lo mein had very soft noodles which was just okay for me, but it might be a texture thing for me. Their portions are enough to share between 2 people and still have leftovers which justifies the price according to Uber Eats before all taxes and fees: Orange Chicken $18.92 , Beef Lo Mein $15.47, and $15.47 for Roast Pork Fried Rice $15.47. 0 STARS! But I will give 1 star for the nice female staffs however I can't say the same about the male staff who according to the other workers is named Jeff. Due to it being Christmas, my sister placed our dinner order through their OWN website at 12 and order was confirmed not too long after. We had it for delivery around 5:30-6. The delivery driver got there and was in constant communication with us about the wait. The delivery went from 6 to 6:15 to 6:30. At this point we were still ok. My dad who has diabetes was starting to get hungry but still doing ok. Our driver let us know that they haven't even started on our order still and won't really answer his questions. That's when my sister and I were not ok. By 7:15 and our driver still being at the restaurant my sis and I decided to just drive down to the restaurant ourselves. When we got there the restaurant was not even busy with patrons eating at the establishment but filled with door dash/uber eats drivers waiting for their foods over an hour with zero to no explanation given by the staff. They were purposely ignoring all the poor drivers waiting. We tipped our driver and told him to leave. I was livid and demanded to know what is going on with our order which the nice young female staff apologized and explained they ran out of rice. We demanded for a refund cause at this point we waited over 2 hours for our order. Then the staff tells us that we have to cancel through DoorDash even though we ordered through their own website. So my sister calls DoorDash and they tell her they can't refund her because she didn't order through DoorDash. There were so many fraustrated people in the lobby and the restaurant staff busy attending the small 3-4 parties that were sat. At this point my dad was starving and I demanded to know what taking so long with our food (it was well over 2 hours from our delivery window) when Jeff tried to size me up raising his chest and mad dogging me. I'm not one to back down so I didn't back down. I demanded to know what is taking so long. He had the audacity to accuse us for ordering when it was a busy window. Uhh no sir we ordered at 12, giving you guys a full 4-5 hour window before delivery. At this point it's getting close to 8. Jeff uses his hand and gestures me to shut my mouth and puts his hands in my face. And then he proceeds to tell me to "fine then go get your order in the back" so I said alright and proceeded to the back yet he stopped me saying I'm not allowed in the back BUT you literally just told your customer to go pack their own food in the back. Finally got our food at 8, got home to find half our order wrong and the fried rice was just mushy rice with egg and no veggies not even green onions. Half our food was already cold like they had it cooked and was out waiting for it to be packed. The manager wasn't even on site according to the staff, what kind of irresponsible manager leaves their restaurant and staff inequit with ingredients let alone staffing on a holiday like today? Also to Jeff, you were extremely rude and need to learn etiquette. NEVER come at your customers in that way. I've worked many years in customer service and even in the worst days I have never treated my customers like this. He probably thought because I'm Asian too that I would back down since he's an elder. Nah respect is earned and I don't know you. All I can say is the experience has ruined my birthday/Christmas. Best Chinese food in Northridge. The orange chicken here is perfect. Big soft chicken pieces, and no hard crunchy over fried pieces. Upgraded to fried rice with it for only 1$ and that tasted amazing too. The amount they give you is worth the price it's enough for 2 people. I had been looking for a new place because I was sick of the buffet style Chinese food always too crunchy and dried out. I will definitely be coming back here. Been waiting nearly an hour for a takeout order. No idea how much longer it will be. When I got here 45 minutes ago, some of the 20 or so in the entrance had already been here waiting for an hour. The owners know they will be busy on Christmas so how did they screw up this badly to not have enough staff or take too many orders? They are incredibly disorganized, little to no communication with customers. Very disappointing. Absolutely no excuse for this. DEC 26 ADDENDUM: So, I decided to just give up after waiting an hour as my other at home was hungry and there was NO indication of how much longer it would take to get our order. McDonald's was open and we punted so Xmas dinner was f'ing Big Macs. Cool. For more context, I had called the restaurant the day before on December 24 to verify that they would be open for dinner orders. The voice on the other side said that they would only take take-out orders, no sit down, which means they had already filled their reservation list for Christmas day. They KNEW exactly how many customers they'd have to serve in the restaurant on Christmas day. They also know that they will get a lot of take-out orders for Christmas day and so do we, which is why we placed the order at 11:49am through their own website (no Doordash, etc) and chose the 5:30pm-5:45pm window for pickup. When I arrived in the parking lot at approximately 5:30pm, I could see the mass of people in the lobby and a bunch of cars in the parking lot when the ONLY business open was this restaurant. Not a good sign. I didn't count, but there were probably 20 to 30 people outside and in the lobby waiting for take-out orders. Some said that they had already been there for over an hour. I waited patiently, but as time wore on, it was becoming clearer that something was terribly wrong and I was not likely to get my order anytime soon or perhaps ever. The young girl at the register apologized on the rare occasion that someone did get their order, but there was no communication with the waiting group as to what the problem was or how long it would be. It was really just chaos on a systemic level that management needs to address TODAY. Order numbers were all over the map. I was #52, but there was a #2 and a number #111 or something sitting behind the counter for pretty much an hour. Some people had high three digit numbers, others had two digit with no rhyme nor reason behind it, so it's not like we could gauge how long it would take based on what order was brought out. At about the hour mark, I overheard someone near the front saying that they had been waiting now for an hour and a half. That's when I decided to abandon the order and go to Mc Frickin' Donald's. I've worked in restaurants before and know that you can get in the weeds, but they had our order six HOURS before it had to be filled, so what the living F is their excuse for not having it ready? We literally ordered three simple items... fried rice, chicken chow mein, beef/broccoli... easy. Usually sitting in a pot or warmer. Scoop it into boxes and bag it. Done. Six hours they had that order and couldn't manage to accomplish that simple task, not just for me, but for dozens of others. Oh, and a woman arrived for her order roughly 30 minutes after I did. She placed her order earlier in the day AFTER I did, but left BEFORE I ever got my order. WTF?! She order after noon for the same pickup window and had MORE items than I ordered. Yet she got hers and left in less time than I waited total. She still had to wait around 20 minutes or so, but for christ's sake. Was NOBODY in charge of anything back there? Clearly management sh*t the bed yesterday in a big way and somebody should be fired for gross incompetence. As I said, they KNEW PRECISELY the previous day how many sit-down customers were coming so they could plan for that. I highly doubt they made the dine-in customers wait 2 hours for their meals.... so they chose to disregard take-out customers because....why? Poor planning for a known-busy day/night? Understaffing? Inadequate supplies? Where was the day-night manager to solve this? Why no communication with waiting customers who by and large were very patient with an inexcusable situation? In the end, it's probably better that I didn't wait as a subsequent reviewer stated the poor quality of her order that eventually arrived. Thankfully, we did not pre-pay so I was able to just walk out. (NEVER prepay just in case there is bad experience like this) Serious discussions should be taking place at this restaurant today (Dec 26) with personal apology phone calls to customers happening this week. And somebody, the missing manager perhaps, should be fired with vigor. Absolutely inexcusable situation for any business on any day of the year. We walked out and the manager chased out after us to ask if everything was ok and we said yes the food was great. So then he asked why then we didn't tip! We explained again that she was given a cash tip. She again said she didn't get it! They bullied my friend into leaving another tip!! Completely rude and uncalled for that the manager ran out after us. She was tipped and even if she wasn't we are not obligated to tip. The food and service are very good. Usually we dine at the restaurant but this time, my first time, I had my food delivered via Door Dash. My "Dasher" Erik was excellent! He communicated well, the food was delivered hot and on time. My only complaint was with Hot Wok. My favorite dish, their signature dish which is their honey walnut shrimp was terrible! The shrimp was rubbery, smelled like old shrimp/defrosted shrimp. It was quite disappointing for my guest after bragging how good it was. It's usually so fresh and delicious. As far as I can remember Hot Wok Cafe has been in the plaza at the cross street of Reseda and Nordhoff. I've been to this plaza many times in the past and unfortunately I have never been to Hot Wok Cafe. Then it all changed. We ordered a nice variety of dishes. They were the following: Beef and Broccoli Pan fried noodles Sweet and Sour chicken Shrimp and walnut Eggplant Fried pork in peking sauce Shrimp and lobster sauce Overall the dishes were great. The Pork in Peking sauce was a bit different to what I was expecting but it was fair. Also, I want to know why many places do not have sweet and sour pork. Would recommend for the food, however despite it being slow & being the 1 of 4 parties in the restaurant. Service wasn't great, they aren't necessarily speedy with serving the food. How have I not been here before?!?! I came here with some friends to celebrate my birthday. We got so many different items and everything was delicious! The spring rolls and fried shrimp were the perfect appetizer. Then we got Mongolian beef, low menu, fried rice and tofu with eggplant. Every single thing we ordered was delicious! let me start over. I've gone here for their lunch specials a few times and it's always been a great experience. I know prices have gone up, but I hope they keep them down because I've stopped going to places because of price gouging. Let me see their menu and see what they've done the prices and I may adjust this comment. read more

The food is delicious, and has a good variety. However the fish filet is not spicy enough and missing Sichuan Peppercorn. Service is great and typical Chinese restaurant decorations. Definitely will recommend people to go for some good Chinese food. read more

My favorite local Chinese Restaurant!! FINALLY. We've done take out from here twice and everything has been spot on. Next time, we'll be eating in. The portions are sizable! We got the following: Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings - So fresh (even if take out), perfectly crispy with LOTS of flavor. A bit spicy! Hot and Sour Soup - Great flavors, good amount of soup for the Small size. Could serve 4 small bowls. Chicken Chow Fun - Delicious!! Lots of chicken. Not "brown" and overpowered by soy sauce. Can't wait to try the Beef Chow Fun. Aromatic Chicken in a Hot Pot - So good, tasted a LITTLE sweet, but it was definitely aromatic. I would get this again in a heart beat. So much parking. It's a couple stores down from Vons in the mini plaza. Only online orders, I do wish they did phone orders but you get 15% off if you place an online order. We had a 6pm pick up on a Sunday and the restaurant was pretty busy. Can't wait to be back, so glad we tried this place! read more

Wooohooooo!! We are here for our Lunar New Year's Eve Dinner!! Our 2nd year here...very busy tonight, front desk was very organized!! Guess what?!? The service from our server IS super attentive and very very nice and so was the other lady server who came and refilled our tea pot!! This place is still nice and bright and roomy!! Oh...the food we ordered was delicious and soooooooooooo happy that the portion sizes are still awesome!!! Thank goodness!! There are hardly any Authentic Chinese restaurants left here in San Fernando Valley and thank goodness this place is decent and clean and friendly!! Love love love!! Mwah! Chefs kiss!! read more
