I was craving dim sum, so I came to A&W. It was during the week, and there was only one other table occupied. The restaurant was really dead. I ordered my usual dim sum plates - chicken feet, spare rib, beef ball, and turnip cake. I also ordered their soup dumplings, which was a sad excuse for XLB. The food here was terrible - it was all dry and lacked flavor. It was also expensive for what it was. I was also shocked that they charge for hot mustard! I didn't even ask for it or use it. The service here was nice - the waitress was very attentive and friendly, which isn't super common for a Chinese restaurant. That is probably the only saving grace of this place. I would not recommend coming here for dim sum and I will not be coming back, unfortunately. They accept credit cards and have a small parking lot that's very convenient.

I've been coming to A&W Seafood in Northridge for many years now. It's one of those old school Chinese Cantonese spots in the Valley that's been around forever. The food is decent and the service is alright, nothing amazing, but it's pretty consistent. The last few years I've mostly been doing takeout instead of dining in. It's convenient and the food still holds up pretty well. They also do dim sum on the weekends and it's not bad if you're in the area and want a quick dim sum fix. Some of my go to dishes here: Salt & pepper pork chops which is crispy, flavorful, and one of the better dishes here. The Cod with black bean sauce is a classic Cantonese style and goes great with white rice. I also enjoy their BBQ pork fried rice which is simple but solid comfort food. For dim sum I usually go with: Sui mai, Har gow, and the steamed Bbq pork buns. Overall it's a dependable neighborhood Chinese spot. Not the most modern place and the décor could use a refresh, but it's a place I've kept coming back to over the years.

Service was decent - it was a quiet day so we'd hope service was good. They gave us extra napkins when we needed and came to us when we needed tea refills. Food came out blazing fast. Beef noodles - didn't look that good but taste was decent Calamari - mediocre, heavy on the fried portion Salt and pepper pork - decent, not the best in any way but enjoyable Green beans: as expected, nothing to write home Black bean sauce fish: favorite dish we tried, sauce is good and mixes well with the fish and if you have rice Inside is a little run down/old. The fish tank isn't used anymore so it's just sitting there and the seats are super low compared to the table. Doesn't feel the cleanest but it's not terrible. Not too expensive but the portions aren't very big. Honestly a mediocre food place but gets the fix if you're looking for more Hong Kong style dishes. Quick food option, but nowhere near 626 quality Service: 4/5 Food : 3.5/5 Ambiance: 2.5/5

Waiting for the dim sum carts to come again... but it didn't so we had to get up to get service.

Food was good, but the service was painfully slow. There were only two servers for the whole restaurant, and we had to get up to tell them we still hadn't received our food. The servers were nice but clearly overwhelmed. They also added gratuity even though there were only six of us, which didn't feel right given the experience. Wouldn't recommend this place.

This place is definitely a little long in the tooth. It looks like it could use an uplift, some elbow grease - to clean it up, and perhaps a visit from the health board. Not that I specifically saw anything terrible, but I just want to be sure that the place is safe. The food is very good. Finding great dim-sum nearby my Simi Valley home is fantastic. I have been here several times over the years and the great dish selection is always consistently good. At over $50 for two, they seem a little high-priced, which may explain the lower number of customers this time around. Their staff is friendly, very good, and quick with any special orders. I will certainly be back, soon.

I love the food here. My family and I love to get the lobster and special house crispy noodles with bean sauce. Their sauce is divine it makes you want to keep eating and suck the flavor off the shell of the lobster. The service is great but the ambiance is outdated. I feel like I am in the 60s era of a Chinese restaurant. The place needs to be upgraded with a nice paint job, new tables and chairs, and so on. Easy parking. Prices vary for the lobster and crab and can be pricey, however, you get your money's worth.

We came here during their dim sum lunch time (around noon) and we got seated right away. The ladies were quick to ask which ones we wanted from the cart so we were able to pretty much have food within a minute of seating! We picked out xiaolongbo (soup dumplings -- although was disappointed there was no broth inside once you bite it, it's like it was dried up), shumai (salty flavorful soft pork dumpling), shrimp dumplings (tender and yummy), chicken feet, and a fried shrimp wrap (idk the exact name). My dad and I also got their house special fried rice to pair with the dim sum and we were both stuffed and full by the end of it!! We both thought it was yummy and very flavorful. Although, weirdly enough, my dad and I had to use the restroom within an hour after because both our stomachs hurt. It became $85 total with two fried rice orders included in it so our 6 dim sum plates probably costed around $50-55 total for two with some leftovers!

    Yummy!!

Second year of our tradition of having Dim Sum for New Years. Still five stars here in my opinion. The average of 3 stars I just don't see it. The servers here are friendly and easy going. Some Dim Sum places are not like that. Which is a nice plus. I like the fact that there is a Dim Sum place in the Valley, so I don't have to go far to get it and I can get all the standard Dim Sum food along with you can order specialties off the menu as well. Seems prices from last year to this year were pretty steady, just slightly above our bill from 2023, with us order 1 more item. Happy about that. I think the decor and everything has been the same since my visit in 2017, where I compare the prices (pictured) now that was a big jump from then to today, but all things go up I guess. The one thing that has changed is there is no longer fish in the fish tank. Go get some yummy Dim Sum from A & W Seafood and support them so they are around for many years to come. Enjoy!

We had dim sum brunch on a Thursday around 11am. Excellent customer service and plenty of choices for dim sum on a weekday. They also have a great menu to choose from. We ordered our usual House Special Fried Rice. Jumbo Shrimp, Dim Sum Seafood, Dim Sum Mixed Seafood & Meat, Scallops & Shrimp. We enjoyed the House Special Fried Rice as it has chunks of beef, chicken, shrimp, fish, squid and other types of meat and seafood. The serving was plentiful. The House Special Fried Rice wasn't greasy nor salty which is how I prefer my fried rice. The two waitress were excellent as they kept coming by to check on us and if we needed anything else. They also replenished our water several times without us having to ask. When we dined on a Thursday a little before noon the restaurant wasn't crowded however on weekends they get pretty packed. Glad there's a dim sum place near by here in SFV especially when you have cravings during the weekday.

Dropped by on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered the House Special fried rice, shumai, shrimp ball, shrimp shumai, and buchi. Quick and delicious lunch with quick and friendly service and we were off! If you haven't tried them, you should!

Food was okay this time but customer service was AWFUL! we're not yet done talking and the server turned around and walked away. We were stunned. Also, while my sister was paying, the lady punched the TIP HERSELF. Decided to give this place a chance but it keeps disappointing me.

Been here many times over the years mostly for Dim Sum on Sundays. Clean and bright but dated decor. Family dinner tonight I think we ordered way too much food for the 10 of us. We were hungry and my brother ordered a few questionable items that we never had before. So the kids didn't eat much. Too many seafood items I think. We got a few staples like tangerine chicken and shrimp walnut which are family favorites. We had a huge table reserved which was perfect. The only thing that really truly bothered me was they didn't offer tap water. You had to buy bottled water for $4 each!!! With a family our size that was insane. They also only had canned soda nothing from a fountain. If you eat here bring your own soda or hydroflask, just sayin' .

Ask the Community - A&W Restaurant

Do you have a small banquet room or Private room for small parties? Thanks...

It's one big dining room. They used to cover parts of it with temporary panels but idk if they still do that.

Do they have the food push carts here where you can select from?

I've seen them do this on weekends and it ends by 2:30ish! Not sure about weekdays

Are they still in business? Is the phone number correct? Been calling for 2 days trying to make reservation, no one answered.

    Yes. Number correct.

Have they opened their indoor dine in after june 15th?

    Yes they have.

Are they open now? Or still takeout/delivery?

    Just take out

Are they still offering dim sum even though we can't sit in?

Yes but you must call to pick up.

    Are they open for takeout?

    Yes, you must call ahead.

Do they serve dim sum on weekdays?

Yes! Dim sum is served from the morning till 2:30-2:45pm

What time do they open for dim sum on Sunday~ one answer says 10am from two years ago, and the posted hours from a pic show 9am, and the yelp app says 9am~ can anyone confirm the current hours of operation? It's 8 am and I'm craving dim sum.....

They open at 9am on weekends.

    Are there chicken feet here?

    Yes!

    Are there vegan options?

Not sure ...it’s best to go check it out

Until what time is Dimsum served?

    I believe it's until 2:30 or 2:45pm

Do they serve dim sum all the time, evenings too? Thanks.

    No, only morning till afternoon.

What time does it open on Sunday?

It opens at 10 am on Sundays

The menu was on laminated paper which must be a few years old and felt disgusting to touch. I started with hot tea and it was served in a metal cup. I wish they served it in a nice ceramic container for customer's enjoyment. For lunch, we ordered chicken chow mein and their pork and crab dumpling (like a xiao long bao). The chicken chow mein had a boatload of cabbage and probably 10 strips of chow mein noodles. It should have been called cabbage noodles (lol). The pork and crab dumplings would have been a hit, but the dumpling shell had a "soapy" smell. The meat inside was soft and tasted good, but I couldn't get over the smell of the shell. We would have also wanted to try seaweed salad, but it was unavailable on this day. The parking at Northern Cafe is plenty. The staff is also courteous. But given the state of the food and overall feel, I give it only two stars. Truthfully, you can find better Chinese food close by this area. There's Maru Ramen on Reseda and Nordhoff, or Silverlake Ramen on Rinaldi. And no, I don't work for either of those places. All of this feedback is based on customer experience.

The Sweet and sour chicken hits the spot, without being over-flavoring. The chicken pieces are a good size and they are well-fried. The pork chops were perfect too! Not overly salty. It was the first time I've eaten at hot wok. But others in the party frequent the restaurant. One person ordered the sizzling rice soup and said it had been better on other occasions. For the tale we ordered a pork dumpling starter, which was fine. Our main dishes were the orange chicken that was good. The kung pao chicken that was bad. A tad dry and flavorless. Ma Po tofu for a vegan eater which the said wasn't the best representation and for some reason the kitchen didn't add onions to help it be vegan. We had vegetable chow fun noodles that were good. We had sautéed green beans that were sautéed with ginger and not garlic which weee bad. You add it up and there's your three stars. We popped in around 2:45 a couple days ago and it was the oddest dining experience I've had in a long time. 30-45 minutes of anxiety. We got 3 items from the cart (4 pieces each), sesame balls, and a plate of beef. How this came out to over $55 is still nuts to me. I absolutely don't mind splurging on food, but this made no sense to me. The food was a 2-3/5 AT BEST. The beef was good, but super overpriced. They don't offer water, only bottles from Costco that they charge almost $2 for. We ordered tea too, please look at my attached photo to see the absolute filth built up on their kettles. The guests dining here were all talking with their mouths full, coughing, and sneezing all over the place. The carts are just sitting around, some of the items are not even covered and they have them placed in a section where they pile up all the dirty dishes from the table clean ups. The other noodle dish, the chow mein, was also good with huge portions. The fish and squid were both okay, but portions were small for the price, and to be honest, they were pretty similar down to the veggies used. We probably could've just ordered one. The most underwhelming was the bbq. The duck tasted okay but the cut they gave us was mostly bone and didn't have much meat. The roast pork was way too juicy and the skin, which is usually my favorite part due to the crisp, was tough and hard to chew.

Beef was okay, not great. Noodles were good. Bride of Frankenstein had one taste and pushed it away. "Mucho Caliente" Orange Chicken, fine. Let's not go overboard everyone. Pan Fried Dumplings, good. Check it out for yourself. 10/11/2025 Update- It saddens Frankenstein to see so many fake reviews over and over again. Really Noodles Kitchen? Please.
