The movers did take off with screws for a table I wasn't ready to assemble, but I got a few dollars from insurance. I took off a star for not getting full replacement value on some pieces that were damaged, though they did give me something and a service person that would cost that amount to fix the furniture. I've moved more often than not over the past two years, and among comparisons, Chipman are one of my top two. We know moving experiences are subject to the actual movers and schedulers. I had a STELLAR experience overall. I booked through ClosetBox, who third partied to United, who third parties to Chipman. Who cares? I care about the customer experience. Chipman called about 5 minutes before they were at my door, during the scheduled window. Jose introduced himself, and Juan introduced himself. They walked through my home, and the items that needed moving. After the survey of items, they spoke, prepped the hallways and doorways, then started moving. Jose did an EXCELLENT job taking inventory. Jose and Juan did an EXCELLENT job job prepping my items for the move (shrink wrap and moving blankets). They seemed like great colleagues, as they communicated before getting large furniture stuck in a stairwell; they successfully got all large items (--and small ones!) out and into the truck for a "level load". This review is written with my personal opinions, as I have used this moving company for work related moves. When I found out we had to move a warehouse full of items in a very short amount of time, I contacted Chipman right away, since we have used them in the past. I communicated with Randy Henry and he was extremely responsive and very quick to help me, with EVERYTHING! I asked him to come out to our location, because honestly - what we were working with had to be seen, it couldnt be explained in an email. (Pure chaos in my opinion, haha) We had about 3,000 file boxes to be moved, and a decent amount of office furniture and disassembled cubicles. Randy was able to accommodate everything we needed, with an amazing crew. 4 Trucks, 12 guys... 3 days. These guys HUSTLED!!! I wish I knew all of their names... but they were amazing. If they had questions, they found me, and asked me, and moved right along. They were moving everything from a warehouse into individual storage units. The move was originally slated for three days. Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. Saturday, ALL boxes were moved. Completed between 8am and about 3:30pm from what I understand, which... WOW! Monday, all furniture was moved, and done. We also have an office that has a few things that need to be moved, and I reached out to Randy to see if we could "bank" that third day that wasnt used, to get this done. He said yes, which to me, is just more amazing customer service. I also dealt with Kellie Barton on the financial side of our move, and in the very short time we had, she was also very communicative and helpful when we had a small hitch in the plans regarding payment. She was very patient and helpful, which was appreciated. Like I said above, we have used them to move our office in the past as well. (I believe for multiple office moves) They provided crates for us to fill, and everything was so organized for that move as well. SO ORGANIZED! I was really nervous about choosing movers for our move from Pasadena, CA to Austin, TX but thankfully I picked the right company! Got quotes through multiple companies and connected with Chipman via Mayflower. Brian was great with the virtual walkthrough of our apartment. The cost with Mayflower/Chipman was a little lower but the main reason we went with them was because the delivery date was within a week. Other companies were giving windows of up to two weeks! Our driver, Fred, called us a few days before to give us his ETA and tips on packing. When he and his two movers came on moving day they were on time, wore masks, and were done in under two hours. Becky also kept checking on to see how things were going. After we got to Austin our driver called to let us know he was coming to deliver TWO DAYS EARLY! It was the best news since we were in our new place with no furniture. Fred and his team arrived on time, even after putting our things onto a shuttle, and unloaded quickly. We realized one box was missing and called Fred and they found it and brought it the next day. Amazing customer service. We did have a table and bed frame with some damage, which happens, so we contacted Becky, filed a claim, and a check was sent to us two days later. So easy. These things happen in big interstate moves so I still give them five stars. Moving is so stressful on its own and Chipman made the process so smooth and I am so happy we went with them. Chipman made our move from LA to Portland easy. They were mid priced compared to other estimates we got. We packed all the boxes ourselves and they loaded and did the furniture. Dear Chipman Relocations, It was very disappointing and a bad reflection on Chipman Relocations how this whole "free estimate" turned out. You estimator called us only one hour before our appointed time to inform us that she was taking the day off. When she asked if another time would work, we mentioned that the 26th was our last available day because of a trip we were taking on the 27th. The 26th wouldn't work for her, so she basically wished us "best of luck". I called you that same morning to inform you of the last minute cancellation, and you suggested I call the local Santa Ana office. I did, and after leaving my information with someone in that office, I never received a call back. If I would have known an estimator would not be available at the time we arranged, I would have called another company. Since I didn't learn of the cancellation until that very morning, all other companies I called were already booked. To top it off, on the 26th we got a call from the estimator confirming an estimate appointment for the 27th that we never arranged (why would we schedule an appointment for a day we would be out of town?). She apologized for her calendar error and I told her with all the problems we've experienced, we would be fearful to use the company for our moving and yearly storage. It surprises me that the reviews on Yelp were so favorable for Chipman. Our review will not be positive. read more
