I was very nervous about being available for all of the days in the delivery spread, but Larry was able to commit to a concrete delivery date over a week in advance, which placated my nerves and satisfied the strict rules of the condo building I moved into in DC. Nothing was broken, and the movers in DC even lugged my oversized sofa up eight flights of stairs to the top floor since it was too big to fit in the elevator. We just completed a move from Sacramento to the Bay Area with this company and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They packed our entire 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house plus 2-car garage over Thursday and Friday, then delivered everything before 9:30 AM on Saturday. Just days before, I was panicking thinking "how will this house get packed in time?" But these guys are the real deal. They literally rolled out the blue carpet for us and handled every single item with care. What impressed me most was their complete professionalism - no judgment about the state of our house or belongings, they just took care of everything with efficiency and respect. I can't even count how many times I've asked him for updated quotes due to schedule changes or deciding not to take certain items. The actual move was very poor. It cost us $32,000! Besides things being broken like dining chairs and lladro sculptures, several things were not included in the move such as screws, bolts, nuts, cables and cords after they disassembled every possible piece. The parts that they disassembled weren't even kept together. Still looking for parts of tv stands and carts. But no hardware there either. They had opened our packed garment boxes and shoved end tables, a coffee table and even a boxed printer in with our clothes. Some of these things were broken. We had to purchase a new $4,000 bed frame after they lost the cables to it. A 4500 sewing cabinet was completely disassembled and they didn't include hardware that was no longer available. We had to try and find cables for our reclining leather loveseats. They ignore boxes market fragile and top load only so things arrived broken. They offered 500.00 as a repayment for all that was lost. read more

Moved from WA to CA. The PACKERS were awful. They did not understand what I was telling them to do because of a language barrier. But they did not disclose that. Files in a filing cabinet were strewn into many different boxes and not labeled. This is just one example. The generic term "decorations" was marked over and over. This is not Christmas. There were no decorations. The order and organization of medical and financial records and many other things separated and dumped into separate boxes was lost as they threw everything into many different places and no markings because either they did not know what they were or did not know the English words. I asked specifically where they put an item; they point to a box; I open it; not there. They simply did not care and had no respect or regard for my property. We paid nearly $20,000 and I have a huge mess of 50 boxes. I am very upset. DO NOT USE THESE PACKERS. Be assertive and do not assume anything. I was trying to be nice and polite and boy am I screwed!!! The management of the move is defensive and accusatory. The actual MOVERS (Matt) were the complete opposite; competent and respectful. Update 8/29- they came strong with an effort to make this right, and offered us $500 bucks off of an over $20,000 service! There needs to be an option for zero stars. This is going to be a long read, so if you want the summary, it is "worst moving experience, incredibly poor communication at the highest levels of management, and would not recommend even if they were to offer their service for free. " The longer version (and Google won't let me post the two pages of our horrible experience so please reach out to me if interested) is that they failed to pickup our items on the day stated per contract, they failed to communicate when we would get our remaining items per contract, they missed the delivery window by 9 days, and after the piss poor communication from our Coordinator and believe it or not even the VP and GM of the Company, we finally got the rest of our stuff 9 days after contract window with a "sorry, you can file a delay claim and for any damages during transit". We spent a month having no idea when we would get our items, spent thousands on stuff we needed "now", but that we already owned, but stuck in storage somewhere with no idea when we'd receive them. And even to this day 8/28, we are over a month past the date of getting our remaining items after having repeatedly asking our coordinator and the VP for some discount, we STILL can't get a response...they either avoid us, or come back with the "we'll get back to you" reply. Well we've already learned after dealing with this terrible company that means you will never get a reply. We are being charged over TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS (personal cost/not a company paid move) and we spent a month with the majority of our items stuck in storage, getting no information other than "covid....covid...pandemic"....and it will be pickup up tomorrow, or we will know tomorrow, and then silence. I get it, there are challenges everywhere, but do not provide a service you can NOT deliver. Period. We have now been trying to work with the VICE PRESIDENT and GM of the company over this absolutely horrible service, and criminal cost...but they have no desire to make it right. We are trying to settle for a fair price, but instead I have to make it my life's hobby to share just how miserable this company is so that hopefully you don't have to deal with them. DO. NOT. USE. We had a great experience with the moving team and move coordinator, Quenisha, she was outstanding as were the movers, great guys, hard workers! We called for a second move of our storage unit to the same house they moved us to the first time. As a returning, happy customer, we were dumbfounded by the lack of a timely response and professionalism. We called mid-month to avoid the end of month rush. It took over 2 wks for the sales team to call us back. John and Joe were so unorganized it resulted in upcharges for the end of the month date & added an 8-hour minimum. It would cost us as much to move 8 pieces of furniture as it did two 10 x 10 storage lockers. Ironically, as I type this, the general manager, Peter called and impressed me with how he handled the situation. We still had to find another moving company, but Peter softened the irritation factor. I'm changing my original intent of this review because the coordinators and movers were great, just save yourself headaches and don't work with John or Joe. They'll waste your time. I think it is important to note that our very-full-service cross country move with Chipman from Seabeck, WA (Kitsap County) to the Atlanta area was a series of related services--so I need to be specific about what was good and what was not. We hired them for packing, loading, storage, transport of household goods, unpacking, haul away, and custom crating. We purchased full replacement insurance coverage. I will try to be dispassionate about this and recount without hyperbole, so as to be useful. What was great: Brandi B. our customer support liaison. She was solid. Bid process and paperwork process is easy. Payments were generally easy. Storage services were great. The transportation scheduling were good. Custom crating services and unloading were smooth. What was done poorly: Packing crew was terrible. Rude, inefficient and one of them did not actually pack (had to call and get him removed for day two after simply squashing items into a bin under a pile of paper versus actually wrapping). Beware if you get Thor's team and a packer named Raushad. Had to file a police report for theft actually. Packers also understaffed so second day was a scramble of unrecorded items and just throwing things onto the truck "to be dealt with later at storage". That caused us problems at unload--read on! Unpack service and haul away at the other end never showed up. Something fell apart there. So not only did we have to take a week off to unpack and handle all the debris haul away, we had to battle for a month for a refund for those two services for which we had them bid and paid; but never received. Brandi had to step in and help. Finally, and perhaps worst, Chipman is not honoring replacements for lost items, damaged items, stolen item (a la aforementioned police report we filed) and our full replacement policy. Attempted to simply not replace missing items per manifest, attempted to falsely claim not reported (sorry pictures prove otherwise gang!), and then set a per-pound-of-box value versus replacement cost per our insurance. Chipman contends it gets to determine the replacement value of an item; versus the actual cost to buy a new one. Fox guarding the hen house... Anyway, for some reason after paying $28k for a move, and purchasing replacement insurance, Chipman attempted not to honor a $1298.00 damaged/lost/stolen goods claim (I did do all the paper work and sent photos for those wondering). Tried to offer $700 after two months of inaction on the claim. Fought them on principle alone as our household items did not magically lose, break, and steal themselves---and the effort the company has expended upon arguing about $600 dollars for damage it caused and items lost, is odd to me, as it has far exceeded the cost of just paying for our loss at this point. Anyway, had to file a dispute with Chase to reclaw the funds for lost and damaged goods--thus far the Credit Card company is siding with us. BBB arbitration is next if necessary. So not all was terrible--I did note what they did well. However the challenges and terrible portion of our experience unfortunately outweighed the strong aspects. The crew that they had move us it was Jason, Ziggy, Mike and Leanna. They were fast and they were efficient they got everything neatly and quickly. I was very happy with how well they worked, especially because the front door has 14 steps that lead up to it and then there were seven more steps on the inside because we have a split level house. This is the second move we have done with Amazon and the crew was incredible. Five stars all the way! I did an interstate move with them, and had them move my motorcycle along with all my house stuff. I got full value coverage. They damaged my bike, I submitted a claim, they closed it. Said that they'd sent me a letter stating that if I didn't reply within three weeks they would close my claim, but they never sent any such letter. After much arguing, they re-opened my claim. They then refused to cover the damage to my bike, stating that they couldn't see any damage in the photographs. It's a chrome muffler, and chrome is shiny, so all that showed up in the photographs were a bunch of reflections. Scratches in the chrome would have only showed up had the furniture repairman who came out to take the photos, done something special with lighting and backgrounds so that the photo would show the surface of the chrome, instead of noisy reflections of the rest of my garage. They claim the driver remembered a conversation with me, EIGHT MONTHS PRIOR, wherein I supposedly told him I'd wrecked the bike, and therefore they would not cover it. So they sent it to arbitration. It's a $550 repair. It would have been a very simple matter for them to fix it-- replacing the muffler would have been cheaper than rechroming to fix the cosmetic damage done by their guys. Never, ever use them. Ever. read more

I chose Chipman after interviewing 6 carriers for our cross country move. The price wasnt the absolute lowest, but the customer service and the in-home estimate person Jerry was fantastic! I just had a good feeling. We finalized all the paperwork...all nine hundred of my questions were answered, stuff was packed up on time the day we confirmed and the movers were friendly. Then the sh*t hit hte fan for my family. My husbands job we were moving for fell through and SO many changes were done in the midst of our move on our end that we had to put delivery of our items on hold and move everything into storage temporarily - or so we thought. The reps Debbie A and Debbie H have been nothing but super nice and helpful with us and all the changes. Our "Temp" storage turned into one year later almost...and I still get great communication from them, they are more than willing to work with payment plans for us...which is so helpful during this stressful time. All and all, I am so happy to have such wonderful people behind me in this time of change. I really feel my stuff is safe with them and I dont have to worry about it being moved around or being sold for being there so long! It's too bad yelp doesn't allow a zero star review. They delivered my furniture a day late, which was 14 days after they picked it up. For that screw up they gave me a measly $100. Somehow between the time they picked up my furniture, then let it sit in their warehouse for 7 days, and delivered it, they lost the foot board of my queen size bed. The bed originally cost around $3000, but I submitted a claim for $2400, as that was the closest bed I could find at the same store. The ridiculous offer they just sent me was for $950, and they threw in $500 in good will money. Which, will take them 20 business days to mail out!! WTF? So I am now supposed to buy a cheaper bed because you've ruined the one that was in your possession? I picked them because of their affiliation with United Van Lines, but what a HUGE mistake! read more

I paid close to $6000 for Chipman Relo to move me from Seattle to Chicago. Part of the service that I paid for was for the crew to disassemble my furniture to keep it safe during the journey and I was promised that a similar crew would reassemble all the furniture upon arrival in Chicago. In Chicago the the receiving company sent only two movers who were not told that needed to reassemble my furniture and didn't have any tools with them. What's far worse than me having to reassemble my furniture is that once I called my Customer service agent, Brandi, to let her know the move in was terrible, she pawned it off to the manager of the destination warehouse who has refused to call me back and said I agreed to a $50 goodwill check. Which I did not. These people are cowards, liars and have not stepped up to do the right thing. FYI, once I received my $50 check, they charged me randomly $50 for unpaid expenses!!! I would NOT recommend working with this company. read more
