I ordered the beef lo mein and the wonton soup. To be delivered for lunch at my work. These are my normal go to items at any Chinese restaurant. The soup was sour tasting, the wontons had very little meat, no vegetables and the broth was very bland. The beef in the lo mein was in really big pieces, making it hard to eat and the vegetable variety was a bit strange. I had one piece of mushroom, a few bean sprouts, one piece of celery, and some water chestnuts. read more

My job has ordered from here alot so I am very familar with the menu. This is an ok Chinese restaurant with good food..but I have had better..The fried rice is good, and the egg rolls are just ok. Blah..I enjoy the crab ragoon, they are delicious..I would at least recommend giving it a try..like I said it ain't the best but its better then most. read more

I have been ordering from this place for at least 20 years. Since they didn't delivery I started trying other places. I went in one time and the Mongolian beef recipe had changed, along with a little renovation. The young Man said he had taken over for his parents or Aunt and Uncle? Can't remember. Regardless I have seen reviews recently that said the food has changed. I was excited to see they were delivering through Grub hub. I just got my food. This has been my family's go-to chinese place since I was old enough to see over the dashboard and ride 'shotgun' to go and get carryout. It's the only thing thats lasted in this stripmall besides the army recruiting office for any REAL length of time (although the 'lovers lane' is over 10 years now i think) and it shows: this was the first down and dirty, simple chinese carrry-out place in the immediate area, and they've built a dedicated client-base with that. The service is always quick and helpful, the menu food remains tasty, and they haven't tried to change things up. It is the same good ol' food it was 20 years ago, and it works. Christmas dinner = Chinese food for us. We've come to Chinese Kitchen off and on over the years, but it had been awhile for us for one reason or another. I'd say it's good here but not great. Friendly as always, the service was slower than usual on account of the crowd. Our cocktails were long in coming and I'll definitely pass on the overly sweet version of an Old Fashioned next time. Stick with the tea. Others at our table ordered sweet and sour chicken, which looked terrific. I ordered a tofu and vegetable dish, but it was really just a huge platter of tofu with a few vegetables in a sort of bland sauce. I just got the wrong thing - there's no use trying to eat healthily at such an establishment. The egg drop soup was not bad. Was a little sceptical until I tried it for the first time. The Szechuan beef is done perfect! Portions are fairly large and always include a pot of hot tea. Will most definitely make this restaurant a frequent spot now. read more

First time here, carry out this time. I had the Deluxe Szechwan. My wife had the Orange Chicken. We also had an order of egg roll and spring roll. I thought the two entrees were among the best in kind that I've tried in the area. Nice, fresh ingredients and appropriately spiced. However, the egg and spring roll left much to be desired: mushy ingredients, probably over cooked. They were doing a good carry out business. The restaurant was empty but looks comfortable albeit a bit more brightly lit than I'd like for the dinner. We will avoid the spring and egg rolls next time but we def WILL go back. Maybe next time, we'll sit and enjoy the meal there. read more

I like to come here when I want cheap Chinese food for lunch. The price and the portion for their lunch specials is just unbelievable and the taste is decent. You get a lot of food for $8. HOWEVER, I guess I'm not going back at least for a while. The young lady who works at the front always has an angry face and is always on her cell phone. I feel so sorry every time I go pick up my food knowing she wants to kick my butt for interfering her. That I can live with. I just want my food. Last week I saw a middle aged lady clipping her toe nail just behind the front counter as she was watching Chinese drama on her cell phone. That's right. CLIPPING HER TOEEEEE NAIL in plain sight!!! Not going back... I love Chinese food, even when it's Americanized, but this was just not good. For some reason the food just left a weird taste in my mouth and I couldn't finish it. My husband said his was okay, but not much better. I just wanted to leave after awhile because I was getting grossed out. The waiter was nice and accommodating and the lady at the counter was nice. This place is within walking distance of my house, so I checked it out recently and was pleasantly surprised. Ordered the combo fried rice and General Tsao's chicken - both were great! Full flavor, very fresh, and the service was fast (took 15 minutes from the time I ordered it). The combo fried rice didn't have much shrimp in it, but it was still very tasty. This is the worst Chinese food in the Western suburbs. Staff is crabby. Food tasted like cornstarch. Kitchen appears very dirty. Take out frequently has orders incorrect. The food was terrible; overcooked, chewy and just greasy. Perhaps it had been sitting prepped for a while. My husband and I both admitted to each other that we feared food poisoning after our meals because it had the taste of bad prep. The portions were huge, but we threw everything away as soon as we got home. The restaurant is dirty with stained carpet. The staff was friendly, so we politely ate what we could and left. Totally agree with the four other reviews from August 2020 I've just seen. This is no longer the Chinese Kitchen you knew. (Yelp will probably take down the low reviews, even though they are predominant now.) We ordered Szechuan Shrimp and got this flavorless mush with NO SZECHUAN PEPPERS. They should have disclosed that this dish is not available. All dishes ordered had meats and shrimp not fresh, and no fresh seasonings or flavor. The quality has become so bad we also (like other reviewers) threw the expensive large order away. read more

Located in a mini mall with an outpost of Lovers Lane and a Marine recruiting station, Chinese Kitchen is about as unpretentious as restaurants come. I enjoy coming here, and I think the food is solid. It reminds me of the kind of place a Jewish family from Long Island would come for their Christmas Day Chinese food ritual, after going to the movies. I see a lot of elderly couples here, who probably live in one of the many nearby condos. I hope my wife and I are one of those couples someday. But back to the restaurant. Sometimes you just want some beef and broccoli and potstickers, and Chinese Kitchen delivers. A fancy name isn't needed here. read more

This breaks my heart to write this review. I have loved this place for over 20 years. To ME it was the only place to get Chinese food in Naperville. Even when I moved away and there weren't ANY delivery services I'd drive 30 minutes or more each way. Something changed a few years ago. I noticed the older couple was gone and a young man was running things. The food changed. When I asked about this I think he said he took over for his Aunt and Uncle. They went back overseas. I explained the food was different. He said that yes, some of the recipes changed. If I wanted the "old" style I just had to ask when I placed the order. Well...imagine my excitement when delivery became a thing. I placed a decent sized order and requested the "old" recipes. Sadly, it wasn't made that way. When I called to express my disappointment in the food I got screamed at by a young woman. " who do I think I am?", etc. Well that pissed me off. I called Discover and they sided with me. CRAVING good Chinese food I read some reviews and thought hmm, maybe things have changed. Nope. The food was even worse. The quality of the food was TERRIBLE! I guess I will have to continue my search for the perfect Chinese food. But I am SO sad that things have changed. Just MY opinion. read more

This was a nice surprise. Very friendly staff. Clean and orderly looking restaurant. Service was fast. The menu took me back when I was a kid, since they offer the dinner for 2 or 4. They have cocktails that are extremely cheap for Naperville. The food didn't need any extra stuff added to it. We ordered the shrimp toast, which I haven't seen on a Chinese menu in years, egg rolls, (huge), shrimp fried rice and shewan(probably not spelled right) shrimp and we are stuffed. We will return! Don't let the Lovers Lane that is located below and army training located next door scare you away - Chinese Kitchen is HANDS down the best Chinese in Naperville and probably the surrounding suburbs. The food is consistently outstanding - My favorite is the sesame chicken lunch special - you get SO much food for roughly $5 including your choice of steamed/fried rice and an eggroll! Be patient with the staff because they have poor english on the phone, but I have NEVER had an order screwed up. They are also very good about custom orders like, no MSG, not spicy, extra spicy, etc... Their wonton soup and veggie eggrolls are to die for! Check them out! :) read more

My boyfriend and I wanted some Chinese takeout. So we stumbled on China Kitchen. It's in a plaza so plenty of parking. Then you have to walk up a set of stairs to get to the restaurant. Once you walk in, there's a carryout section and to left of there is the dine in. Clean and good service! Our waitress was very accommodating. The food though was a bit too bland for me. We order beef fried rice, sweet sour pork, BBQ pork with scrambled eggs. We had to add extra soy sauce. But if you like low sodium check them out! They seem super busy with carryout! read more

Chinese kitchen is a swell small quaint establishment. Their lunch specials are a great deal. I have been a customer for a long time now and today I was extremely confused by the quality of their gravy. It was used for my fat noodles. The consistency, smell, taste and density all leave for conversation to be had. At immediate opening, a aroma that can only be described a swampy sweaty men in a jacuzzi. Wow, just finished what will be my last meal at chinese kitchen. As many have already stated, it used to be SO much better. Now it's a place to get a cheap lunch amd nothing more. Again, I agree with many others who have said BLAND and I'll add GREASY to the mix. Just got 4 egg rolls and two entrées for $33. Not only is that a bit on the high side for what you're getting, but the food was borderline inedible. No flavor other than soy and oil. Last time I was in there to sit down and eat, I asked the guy why nothing had any flavor. He replied that the naperville crowd "couldn't handle" authentic chinese (aka Chinatown) flavors. I just said okay cause I was kinda in shock. Who knows? Maybe it's true? But for me, I'll skip this place from now on and rely solely on good memories of when the food was tasty let alone edible.
