I am deleting my previous review which was entertaining and hilarious to express how pissed off I am at these goons. Every time I have come here it has been worse and worse over the course of the last 3 years and this time will be my last. We come in on the tail end of lunch but just make it in time, and that must have had something to do with our service, but so did plenty of other people so I am confused as to what happened and why, when they don't shut their kitchen down in between or anything. Basically everything starts normal, but I get up to go to the restroom and come back and the busboy is trying to tell my girlfriend that we have to pay immediately because lunch has ended??!!? They are still serving people; we got the lunch price, yes, but why the rush? HOW DOES THAT COMPUTE IN ANYONE'S MIND? I don't care if we were his last table to bus before he could leave because he could have had someone else cover for him. Wanting his tip is understandable but then why on earth did he have to stand there and watch us finish our food when he already had it? LITERALLY WATCHING MY GIRLFRIEND EAT HER ENTIRE BOWL OF ICE CREAM. YOU DONT RUSH A LADY. NOT IN THE SOUTH AND DEFINITELY NOT IN TEXAS. The selection has less and less to offer every time we go. The food sits out for too long and ends up being terrible. The Lo Mein could be used as spackle. Denton is a black hole for Chinese Food which is the only reason we even came here (Mr. Chopsticks is friggin terrible too) but WE ARE NEVER COMING BACK AND I AM TELLING EVERYONE I KNOW NOT TO GO TO YOUR HORRIBLE BUFFET. Love...big fan, big, HUGE! We only order if we have to go to Denton and always get take out, but really sometimes wish we lived closer to have delivery service very often. We have never tried the buffet, although it looks decent. Large portions, prices seem right and quality, well so far no complaints! If I could of given zero stars I would! I ordered take out of Pepper Steak. When I got home and took a bite it tasted like shrimp and such! Had no beef taste at all! They had to cook it in a pan that hadn't been cleaned and was used again without regard that it was beef. The worst part is I've become allergic to shell fish and had a mild reaction. This is my favorite splurge-meal place to eat. Unfortunately, it is a bit hit-and-miss. Sometimes it is crazy good and sometimes it is mediocre. I've noticed that if I go before or right at lunch time the food is cold and looks to be left-over. The food is very hot and fresh if I go right after the lunch rush when all the entrees have been restocked. I do not like that the staff sometimes takes all the cups from the table to refill the water. I always make a mark on my cup to make sure I get the same cup in return and they sometimes swap my cup with my fellow diner's cup. My favorite selection is their jalapeño chicken. It is fantastic! Overall, a great place to eat. Just be sure to get there later into your lunch hour and keep an eye on your drink cup. read more

I do not recommend this place. The food was not even warm much less hot and fresh. Then for three of us it was $50 and we all only ate one plate. That's how bad the food was. Decent place but definitely limited to or NO OPTIONS FOR VEGETARIANS. They use a lot of breading in the chicken dishes so you're mostly eating breading. Staff is really friendly and the place is sorta run down but not the worst I've been to. I'd suggest looking around a little bit or even heading to Lewisville for some better options. When it comes to Chinese buffet. I went in here with a 3.5 star expectation and it turn out to be far better than an average Chinese buffet. This place used to be an awesome place to dine. The last 3 times I have been there all within the last 5 months, the food was old, had been out for a long time. We were there at 6pm so you think it would be fresh. The flavors were off, the soup was more sour than hot and sour, The Sushi was not good. Matter of fact Kroger sushi is better. The restaurant was hot and the service was poor. Very disappointed. I actually got sick, and I believe it was food poisoning. Started throwing up about 3 hrs after we left. Needless to say, I'm not going back! Denton has too many other places. Too bad for them, Should have known that at 6 pm you would at least have a dinner crowd, Wasn't the case. Everything i had here was cold and tasted like dog food. I had to go get food elsewhere after i attempted to eat here. Just save your health and don't do chinese buffet. One of the worker was spitting on the floor in the kitchen. I only noticed because i was waiting for my food to be cooked at the grill and another worker healdsburg the door open abe was chatting with the guy at the grill and the guy in the kitchen. The food was kept fresh & hot while the buffet was kept very clean. Reasonably priced @ $10.95 (buffet all day Sat.) which includes the sushi and grill. I was down the road near another buffet but the Yelp reviews steered me to Chinatown Cafe; glad I did! It doesn't look like much outside but it's an impressive buffet inside! This was the second worst Chinese buffet I ever ate at. I have eaten at a ton of different Chinese buffets throughout the metroplex over the years. I have my favorites but I thought I would try a new one in Denton. This had the best online reviews and so I tried it. I showed up just before 7pm on a Wednesday. What food was left had been sitting out for a long, long time. The outside edges had already crusted over in most cases from just sitting there. I kept trying a little of various things to try to find something decent. I should have just walked out and regret not doing so. They didn't even label things correctly. Many, many things were labeled with something other than what was there. Granted, you can usually guess that something with bones in it isn't "fried broccoli" but it just shows how little they care. The baked salmon was out and after asking for it to be replaced four times they finally brought out something that resembled cat food with cheese on it. The Mongolian grill barely had anything left but I tried it in an attempt to find something somewhat decent. Hopefully I don't get sick from eating their food. The online reviews were either wrong, or they went downhill fast. Either way, I'd avoid this place. I will be. read more

My wife and I went there for a late lunch/early dinner. Couldn't wait to try this place. Well the buffet items were left overs from the lunch service. Granted it was a Monday afternoon @ 3:50, not a busy time. The sweet and sour chicken was cold as well as the lo mein, egg rolls and other items. When we getting ready to pay our bill we were going to be charged the dinner rate. My wife challenged this and the hostess changed this to the lunch rate. Coming from New York State where the Chinese food is good, this was very disappointing. We may try this place on a weekend, we'll see. The two stars is for the waite staff. read more

Best Asian Buffet hands down! They don't use cheap oils in their sauces that upset your stomach like other places do. Big selection- everything was piping hot and very good. My entire family were quite impressed with Chinatown Cafe this Saturday evening. We've dined at this restaurant/AYCE buffet several times. It's usually been at lunchtime, and it's always been good, no complaints ever. This week we dined during the dinner hour and were especially impressed at the expansion of food types from lunch to dinner. We were pleased to find several types of seafood to choose from, including mussels, clams and oysters- each a differently-prepared dish with it's own unique flavor. This time, the clams had been cooked with fresh jalapenos, which worked well. The fried calamari was tender, not chewy as so often is found, wherever you go. There was an incredible variety of food from which to choose . . . makings of a spectacular dinner and good time with friends or family. Of course, there were many Chinese dishes as one would expect to see, also seeming as fresh as possible and appropriately tasty in their expected forms. Such a great variety, and for dinner they had a desserts bar and also a separate bakery bar, packed. Anyone could find something to eat at this restaurant's buffet, and as well could order from the menu if they chose. I'm not positive, but call ahead if you're interested- I believe there was a bar too- I hardly notice this aspect when I'm just going out to eat . . . but seem to remember bar stools and an area to the left as we entered. We were seated quickly, so I didn't pay particular attention to this area. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming to anyone who enters, any age. There are tables and booths for seating, and table chairs are more comfortable than most restaurants provide for their customers these days. (We've noticed many new joints getting away from booths at all, which is ridiculous). There's adequate spacing around the seating at Chinatown Cafe- they have a lot of square footage and use it wisely without sacrificing comforts. They have a back room which I'm sure is able to be reserved for large groups; otherwise it's more area to accommodate their busiest times. We were glad to see that all the area road construction over the last years has not forced closure of this family restaurant. It'd be a shame to lose this one- an easy "best Chinese buffet" for it's price in an area accessible to both townies and traveling patrons, just a bit from I-35 and on the University/Bonnie Brae intersection. Appropriately-dressed, professional wait-staff! This casual dining spot takes care that the waitstaff don't seem casual themselves. Yet, they feel casual and offer a relaxing atmosphere. We'll continue to use this Chinese restaurant, no doubt. read more

Best kept secret! Love this place. The lunch buffet is AMAZING. Two DELICIOUS types of fried rice. Best crab Rangoons. They even have sushi. Deserts aren't the best. But they have soft serve ice cream. There is no other Chinese buffet I go to besides this one in Denton! Check it out ! read more

By far, the worst buffet I have been to in years! My group of 5 stopped in for dinner on a Wednesday night at about 8:30. The food on the buffet was so bad in comparison to ANY Chinese buffet I've ever had. My daughter and friends were so hungry due to being at the hospital, just down the road, all day. We payed attention to the woman tending the dishes and noticed they had added zero fresh food the entire time we were there. I asked the guy in the kitchen if I could get someone to make me some avocado rolls and he said, "I don't know. I don't make sushi rolls.". He walked away and I had to ask the waitress. She yelled to the closed section of the seating area to a table of 4 people, whom I assume worked there, and a guy got up and went to make the rolls. When he was done, he just set them up on the buffet w the other sushi. Had I not realized he had returned to his table, where I realized they were eating, I wouldn't have known he had finished. The dishes we tried were bland and had obviously been sitting a while. When we left, nobody thanked us when we paid or even said goodbye. I promise you we will never return. The most I can say about this place is that the food is edible. Barely. I have never sat down, ate, and left a restaurant so fast in my lifetime. I am concerned for anyone who returns to this place after eating at it the first time. There is no possible way their taste buds are normal. To start off, we first noticed the poop was still in the shrimp, unfortunately we did not think to take a picture in the moment. We tried to stay optimistic, but everything else we ate (genera tso chicken, lo mein, crawfish, sushi, beef and broccoli) followed with disappointment. I do not know why we thought eating fish from a chinese buffet was a smart idea; however, we now know this results into a lot of vomit in the same night. The only reason this place even deserves a one star is for the strawberry ice cream which isn't even made in house. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT even think to eat at this place.
