Not the case which leans more to something being wrong. This is a pretty large place, lots of tables to fill and a separate bar area. Walk in, place your order, fill your drink, have a seat, and they bring your food out to you. The service at the ordering "counter" was excellent, she was very nice and answered any questions we had. She checked on us a couple of times while we ate as well. Now for the food. Brisket, sausages (house & jalapeño cheese), cheese n mac (what that call it), potato salad, coleslaw, and beans. Sides: Everything needed more seasoning, salt & pepper. The cheese n mac was not very hot which made it rather dry. The coleslaw dressing was just mayonnaise and vinegar. I know this is the base ingredients but the ratios seemed off. It was thick like too much mayo but the vinegar was potent too, like they used straight white vinegar instead of apple cider or something with less bite. The potato salad was decent but it needed more salt and they also put celery in it which added a nice crunch but, in my opinion, just doesn't belong in potato salad. The beans were ok, needed to be cooked a little longer. They were cooked but just not as soft as they should have been and the flavor was rather bland. Meats: Sausages: Orginal sausage was not very tasty in my opinion. My wife liked it, but comparing it to other places we enjoy, said it was not as good. Jalapeño sausage had better flavor but like the original did not have that snap in good sausage casings. The Brisket: We got "fatty" as the nice lady called it when we ordered. Looking at it we knew this was going to be mediocre brisket. There was not much bark on our slices although the smoke ring looked promising. The flavor was not bad but it just wasn't very good either. Somewhere in the middle which lands this brisket as mediocre. Overall, Fat Down was a let down and we all said that we pass other places we would rather go to in order to get here and therefore probably would pass on a return visit. I was really hoping that Denton was going to have another really good bbq place but that was not the case in our opinion.

Somebody should have staged an intervention. Since it was our first visit, we had questions, and the staff helped us figure out what we wanted. We landed on the Jurassic Burger with curly fries swapped in, the original Time Machine Burger, and two kids' cheeseburger baskets. The kids immediately got to work on those fries, and judging by the complete lack of crumbs left behind, they were very happy with that decision. Now, the Jurassic Burger had me raising an eyebrow a little. It's a half-pound burger topped with little smokies grilled in sweet BBQ sauce, American cheese, mayo, and lettuce. Little smokies on a burger? I wasn't completely sold on the idea, but one bite shut me right up. The smoky sausage, sweet BBQ sauce, and cheese worked SO WELL together. It's a combination I probably wouldn't have thought to put together, but now that I've tasted it, I get it. And those curly fries deserve their own moment of appreciation--easily some of my favorites! For mine, I went with the original Time Machine Burger, because my logic was pretty simple: if you're putting the restaurant's name on it, surely that's the one that needs to show up and show out. And MY POINT WAS VALID. This half-pound burger comes topped with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, grilled jalapeños, and American cheese, with mayo, mustard, lettuce, and pickles on a toasted bun. There's a lot happening there, but it all comes together SO well. Those grilled toppings with the cheese and that little kick from the jalapeños brought the whole burger to another level. It was the kind of bite that makes you pause to appreciate what you're eating... before immediately going back for another. Exactly what I had been craving, and my mouth is watering all over again just writing this. I understand why so many people recommended this place.
