The Outlaw Burger had a thick layer of cheese that nicely melted into the thick patty that offered a good spicy flavor. Both portions were generous. Our food tasted fresh and delicious. The girl at the front desk was friendly helping us check out. Our waitress did a great job, stopping by few times to ask, "How's everything Y'all?" I loved the Western Cowboy Theme. Some of the decor was a bit schizophrenic, but in a cool way. There was a car shell mounted to the ceiling, old movie posters everywhere, and a bunch of random decorations on shelves. I just ordered the namesake time machine burger and it was incredible. So good, I ordered a second one. Everyone working was very friendly too and the owner seemed like a really great guy. It's the slightly rundown greasy hole-in-the-wall places like this that always have the best food. I could never recommend it enough. Not the case which leans more to something being wrong. This is a pretty large place, lots of tables to fill and a separate bar area. Walk in, place your order, fill your drink, have a seat, and they bring your food out to you. The service at the ordering "counter" was excellent, she was very nice and answered any questions we had. She checked on us a couple of times while we ate as well. Now for the food. Brisket, sausages (house & jalapeño cheese), cheese n mac (what that call it), potato salad, coleslaw, and beans. Sides: Everything needed more seasoning, salt & pepper. The cheese n mac was not very hot which made it rather dry. The coleslaw dressing was just mayonnaise and vinegar. I know this is the base ingredients but the ratios seemed off. It was thick like too much mayo but the vinegar was potent too, like they used straight white vinegar instead of apple cider or something with less bite. The potato salad was decent but it needed more salt and they also put celery in it which added a nice crunch but, in my opinion, just doesn't belong in potato salad. The beans were ok, needed to be cooked a little longer. They were cooked but just not as soft as they should have been and the flavor was rather bland. Meats: Sausages: Orginal sausage was not very tasty in my opinion. My wife liked it, but comparing it to other places we enjoy, said it was not as good. Jalapeño sausage had better flavor but like the original did not have that snap in good sausage casings. The Brisket: We got "fatty" as the nice lady called it when we ordered. Looking at it we knew this was going to be mediocre brisket. There was not much bark on our slices although the smoke ring looked promising. The flavor was not bad but it just wasn't very good either. Somewhere in the middle which lands this brisket as mediocre. Overall, Fat Down was a let down and we all said that we pass other places we would rather go to in order to get here and therefore probably would pass on a return visit.
