The best Ive tried so far on my cross country trip without a doubt! Ribs were so delicious and the meat comes off the bone eating with one hand. Had a flavorful bark and just the right texture. Brisket was tasty and not dried out. Corn and mustard potato salad was very good. Leo the pit master was a cool friendly guy and was easy to chat with. This place has some of the best bbq I've ever had. Such a crowd pleaser. I love all the meats. The brisket with bbq sauce is amazing! The jalapeño sausage is amazing! The chicken breast, so yummy. We order southern bbq quite frequently considering we work right across the highway from it. Their food is delicious, no complains ever. I will say the woman who answers the phone is anything but nice. I could rave about the food but we are hesitant to even call up and place an order for pickup because she is SO rude. read more

Sanger doesn't have a lot of restaurants, and what we do have we generally protect. My issues with the BBQ here are how salty it is with little smoke flavor. I couldnover look the salty if the smoke level was there. I also find it dry compared to others. I am a BBQ snob, so take my review with a grain of that salt and try for yourself. read more

This is a mix of experiences that lead to a four. 5 ... The service was fast and helpful. The sides (creamy potato salad, green beans, cole slaw) were all flavorful ... they also have a baked beans, borracho beans, corn on the Cobb and a mustard based potato salad. The roll was soft and fresh. 3 ... The meat, however, was different. While the meats were juicy, they lacked any smoke flavor. I did enjoy the pulled pork. Ambiance: The place itself is nice, a stand alone building off the frontage road of I-35. The decor was about what you would expect from a bbq joint. The tables were spaced nicely so that your neighbor wasn't sitting in your lap. Counter service: Place your order and watch them cut your meat then they hand you the plate and you serve your own sides. The set up reminded me of Soulman's BBQ because it's the exact same set up. The menu was even very similar. Service: Everyone was pleasant. I didn't have a lot of questions so there was not much interaction, as to be expected with counter service. No one came around to check on people while we were there. Food: This is where the stars begin to fall off the review. I had the two meat plate, brisket and jalapeno sausage. Neither of which was great. The sausage had no snap and wasn't very jalapeno. The brisket was dry with a barely visible smoke ring and no real bark to speak of. I didn't notice until after we were eating that the cutting station where you place your order had a heat lamp scorching down on the brisket and other meats. Maybe that's the culprit for dryness? The sides: I had "bbq beans" and potato salad. Also not too good. The beans tasted like baked beans from a can that were attempted to spruce up but missed the mark. The potato salad wasn't bad, but it was just missing something leaving it rather bland. Overall, we were not too impressed with Southern BBQ. Unfortunate. read more

Really good "Que". Got a three meat platter: brisket, sausage & pork ribs. Surprise was the sausage, very central Texas like. Brisket was very moist and well cooked with good smoke taste. I go here A LOT. I live right next to it. but recently I have been so disappointed. I barely ever write reviews, but I was so excited for my food only to be disappointed. I am currently eating the tacos I got from here and they had the audacity to give me the DRIEST LIME IN EXISTENCE. I get that this town has white washed tacos, it's Sanger TX, so I usually don't expect much at all. But one tiny little 1/4 of the driest lime in the world? Pleaseeeeee! I like yalls tacos but when I first started getting them, they would give me 2 small wedges for 2-3 tacos. But recently I'm spending money here to get just 1 lime that's drier than the Sahara? For THREE (3!) tacos. That's just cheap business and honestly shows that they are starting to care less about their customers and food. Yesterday we stopped in for a late lunch. My husband and I ordered one meat plate with one side. We both had sliced beef. The meat was soft and tender. It tore apart easily. They serve your meat and hand it to you. Then you can select your own side. I ordered dill potatoe salad and I had mustard potatoe. Both were good and my favorite is the mustard salad. They have different bbq sauce. I tasted the original which is not too sweet and perfect for me. Their machine has crushed ice which was a nice surprise. He walked backed to get another a refill drink. On the way out, I grabbed an ice cream cone. They also have pies to go with your ice cream. The fact that they charge $2.50 to cut a sandwich in half if you plan to share because "both people might use the relish bar / free ice cream" is more than a little ridiculous. Completely amazed by our experience here!!! We drove through because we couldn't dine inside due to the COVID19. The lady who took our order was so nice and informed us of the daily special as well as other items on the menu. We ordered the loaded brisket fries, a loaded baked potato with meat (their Saturday special) and a 3 meat plate and 2 sides, plus dessert. We were hungry and about 30 mins from home so we decided to just pull into a parking spot and dig into the loaded brisket fries we got because we didn't know how good they would be by the time we got home. Can I just say...DELICIOUS?!!! They were amazing!! Everything else looks amazing...we just haven't made it home yet to eat. What made our experience even better was that the lady from the drive through, who is the actual owner we found out, came outside to check on us and make sure we were enjoying our food. Who does that anymore these days??? It really was a nice touch to know they care about their customers and we will definitely be back when we are up this direction!!!! Gave them 2nd chance; fail. I got the rib plate. Sorry, but these were the most flavorless, bland ribs I've ever eaten. Meat was juicy but couldn't taste the dry rub on the ribs nor any smokiness in the meat. BBQ sauce just as bland. Dill potato salad; ok but no dill taste? Very plain, shredded cabbage coleslaw; not great. I don't get the 4-5 star reviews; about 1/2 mile away is Bolivar St BBQ; they're excellent and 100x better flavor wise hands down! read more
