Family and I were driving from Oklahoma and were in the mood for BBQ. We saw this place on the side of road and decided to stop by. It definitely hit the spot! The food was delicious! I only give them a 4 instead of 5 because their A/C was out. The owner did set up a portable fan near us which was awesome! The food was super yummy. We ordered 2 Wednesday specials and 2 kids meals. My kids aren't huge meat eaters but they ate all of their meals. My husband and I had so much meat with our meals that we had enough for 2 more meals to take home with us. I decided to try this BBQ house finally. Dickies used to be in that location. It was ok as well. Today (about 2 hours ago) I ordered the 2 meat plate. I had sliced brisket, ham and 2 sides. The Pinto beans were horrible! Tasted like they had vinegar in them. The coleslaw was lackluster at best. Tasted like someone grated cabbage and put it in a bowl. The ham was tasteless and had the consistency of cardboard. The brisket was so dry and COLD I had to put warm BBQ sauce on it to be able to eat it and it was still cold. No smoke flavor at all. To top it off, a very large hispanic woman came in wearing a shirt from there, walked into the kitchen without washing her hands, started opening cabinets in the serving area and complained about what was and wasn't done. Why is this here and why is that there.... I hope it was just a bad day for them but I doubt VERY seriously I will ever go back and waste my time or money ($12.49)! I wish I had listened to my stomach and gone to Dairy Queen... The owner had the unmitigated gall to attack me for my review. She obviously hasn't bothered to read my reviews on REAL restaurants in the Sanger area.. So sad! read more

We eat here weekly, it's that Good! There is a variety of meats, lots of sides (their homemade potato salad is to die for). They have several sized plate, including senior. If you're in a hurry, they have a drive up window. The men who work there can be seen making the meats, fresh, right there. They also have a variety of tacos that are great for a small, quick lunch. I never get the regular plates, there's too much food for me. This is one of those places that all the locals know about and go often. It's clean, decorated in 'Texan' and has two Tv's that are not so loud you can't hear your neighbor. read more

One of the pros of being near Exit 477!!! Okra great, macaroni and cheese amazing. I'm a sides person, so try the charro beans, green beans and loaded mashed potatoes. I really want there to be good BBQ in Sanger. And I was excited about Southern BBQ opening. Pepper Belly outside of Sable Creek wins the contest hands down, and they are mediocre to good. Before I went in, I drove around to the side to see if they had a woodpile. They do. A woodpile doesn't guarantee good BBQ, but no woodpile guarantees bad BBQ. The place smelled slightly smoky, so I was encouraged. Let's start with the good - the place is nicely decorated and laid out, the staff were pleasant and courteous. They worked hard to make sure I'd have a good experience and gave me a loyalty card to make sure I'd come back. The only thing they didn't do was serve good BBQ. The three meat plate with beef brisket, ribs and sausage followed me home. I asked for the brisket to be "dark and fatty". Sadly, it was dry. It had little flavor of any sort, and no smoke flavor. I do believe they scraped the flavorful fat off the brisket. Sad. The meat showed signs of having been cooked too long at too high a heat. The meat was falling apart in a crumbly sort of way. The ribs had a nice amount of "tug" which is to say the meat didn't just fall off the bone. However, again, there was no real flavor and no bark. The last meat was the best, the sausage. I asked if they made their own and was told they got it from the food service truck. It was an honest and well made sausage. However, again, there was no smoke smell or flavor. Two side accompanied the plate. Macaroni and cheese plus BBQ beans. I haven't gotten to the beans yet, but the M&C was nothing to write home about. Bland. REAL bland. It was probably made with a Velveeta substitute. I hope they get better. I'd hoped they'd be better than Dickey's. My suggestion to the management, visit Lockhart Smoke House in Plano and Pecan Lodge in Dallas. Enjoy some great BBQ and think about it. Then send staff to one of the "Camp Smoke's" that Lockhart Smokehouse will be holding in July. GREAT classes from a BBQ joint that is among the top 10 in the DFW area and the top 50 in Texas. It's amazing how short the distance is between meh and WOW! if you're willing to make the journey. read more

We went through the drive thru for our first visit. The customer service was great. Very thorough. Great, user friendly menu. The food was outstanding. Awesome pulled pork sandwiches!! The bun is thick so you can pile on the bbq sauce. I was most impressed with the fried okra though, it was perfectly seasoned. Or food came out quickly and was amazing. Was traveling through from Reno and stopped on a whim on our way to Ardmore.The staff was extremely friendly. I had a pulled pork sandwich, and I thought it was incredible! Pretty good food, the sides always look hot and fresh never like in a crusty pan, the folks are friendly and the prices are fair! My 4 star rating only represents my opinion of the meat itself, and I've had the best all over the country, over all my experiences have been 5 star! Set up like the Dickey's BBQ it replaced. But Dickey's was superior. Seriously the brisket tastes like it is shipped in by a commercial restaurant food supplier. Similar to what you would find at a Buffet restaurant. It certainly doesn't taste or look like it is cooked on the premises. ( Most BBQ cook from early in the morning. I drive by twice per day at all hours and have never smelled smoke or cooking at any hour.) Brisket is dry and the BBQ sauce has an ingredient that is way too pronounced and skews the flavor unlike any sauce I've ever tasted (in a bad way). Don't know what it is, but I doubt you'll find it in any REAL Texas BBQ sauce. I see the other reviews and have to assume they are from either friends, relatives or people that don't know good BBQ. Sorry for the unflattering review. I REALLY hoped Sanger would get a good BBQ place, but sadly this isn't it. read more

Very nice staff, courteous, generous. Rolls are free and are help yourself. Sides are self serve so you can get as much or as little as you want. Fixings are help yourself and includes things like pickle spears, onions, sour cream, etc. Free ice cream station. I can easily spend 20 bucks somewhere and feed the girlfriend and I and not get near this amount of food or this great of service. Definitely try this place. If you don't like it then you're not from the south, where good food and hospitality runs through our veins. read more
