Tried this place a couple of times. The food had no flavor and looks like it's been sitting there... it's a pass!

I like that this restaurant is family run. My favorite thing on the menu is the war wonton soup. It's wonderful on a chilly day!

Since its opening, Yunnan Restaurant has become a staple in our rotation for good reason. The pro-tip that I almost want to gatekeep is to go for lunch because that's the only way to guarantee that all of the best cold dishes are still in stock. My family's go-to is the vinegar potato strings, bamboo shoots, and sliced mushrooms, but we've recently also gotten into getting a side order of the peanuts with anchovies. The peanuts have a great sweet and salty roasted flavor and would pair perfectly with some rice. I could honestly be happy just ordered a big plate of the vegetarian cold dishes with rice, but it would be criminal to not order some of the noodles. The Sichuan style cold noodle is my absolute favorite item on the menu. It is vinegary, spicy, a little bit sweet, and super refreshing! The noodle texture is nice and bouncy, and the sliced carrots and scallions and blanched bean curds add a great crunchy texture. Despite being meatless, this noodle dish is absolutely satisfying and delicious! Most of the praises I sing are about this cold noodle dish, but their other items are also quite yummy. I enjoy the braised garlic seafood tofu dish, which pairs well with rice, and there are whole cloves of garlic that were braised with the seafood to be subtlety sweet and not at all pungent. Yunnan Restaurant really lives up to the hype!

After looking at menus and comparing we decided on Peking. Sure glad we did too! I have to say if you are ever in Ventura please give this place a try! First thing I noticed is this place is simple yet has a quality about it. I would bring a date here, rather maybe a second or third date. It's nice inside. Wait staff was amazing. Now to the good stuff! I ordered chicken chow fun and partner had Mushu pork and for the appetizer we ordered the paper wrapped chicken. The chicken hit the table first wrapped in tin foil. That didn't deter us at all. This was served with duck sauce and spicy mustard. The mustard was amazing but i love spice! Both were good but the mustard opened up my nasal passages and made me go wow!! Awesome! The two main dishes hit the table and we dug in. Both were great! Let me tell you how hard it is to find a good Chinese place that isn't swimming in soy and oil! This place seasoned correctly and was not greasy at all!! I will tell you this; if you like fast Chinese food like Panda Express and that is what you think of Chinese food then stay there. Here you'll get properly seasoned fair. Over all I recommend and when back in Ventura will visit again for sure! The pictures don't do this place justice.

Everything is flavorful without the greasiness. I like that they don't over season or drown their food in sauce so it seems healthier too. Welcoming staff and attentive service. We ordered takeout since it's conveniently located next to our gym and there was very little wait when they opened at 11:30 am. The food didn't take long to prepare (about 20-25 minutes) and still tasted warm and fresh when it arrived home. The servings are large, but white rice was not included with the entrees. The restaurant is clean and easy to locate in this shopping complex. The staff is very attentive to phone orders, and even prioritized taking a phone order ahead of me, even though I showed up first. Their service is hit and miss, but food is consistently tasty. Much better than ordering from a fast food Chinese restaurant. Give them a shot if you have patience and like freshly cooked Chinese food.

It was around 2 PM on a Tuesday--not busy at all. The weather was nice (about 72 degrees), and we had our dog with us, so we planned to sit at one of the outdoor tables. I walked in with a smile, hand waved, and said: "Hi, we'd like a table for two, please... we'll be sitting outside." The woman working there suddenly started yelling at me, "No, you eat inside! Can't you see I'm busy?!"-- complete with hand gestures. There were literally only 3 tables being served inside... and one left before we even ordered. I calmly explained we had a dog, which is why we wanted to sit outside. OMG... I was sooooo shocked by her tone and her raising her voice at me that I asked my husband to go in and just order the food to-go instead since I can't handle being talked to like that... and we're already starving and haven't had lunch yet. Honestly, what's the point of having outdoor seating if customers aren't allowed to use it... especially in that kind of tone? My husband said she later apologized when he was paying for our food "sorry, to your wife," but honestly, YELLING at customers is NEVER okay, busy or not. Totally unacceptable behavior! Very rude. Food: blah and meh. I agree with some of the reviews here. Panda Express would have been a better choice. I've included pictures of the outside seating for reference

We've been here twice now and some of our favorites are the shu mai, sticky rice, and the wings. Everything we've tried so far has been really good. On our most recent visit we also tried the fried tofu. The flavor was great and I ordered the less spicy version. The only small note is that the fried tofu was a little on the saltier side. If they eased up on the salt just a bit it would be perfect. The service has also been great both times we've come. The servers are always kind and attentive and they check in to see if we have any questions or need anything. I always appreciate restaurants that make you feel taken care of. Their voicemail message continues to say "temporarily closed." So I started searching closer to home, which is a challenge because I don't usually view any Simi Valley restaurant as being worthy of our patronage... yet, I searched anyway. I found Bao Su on Yelp, so we decided to give them a try based on other Yelper reviews. Bottom line is that my husband and I were incredibly impressed with their food, not to mention, happy that it is so much closer. We ordered the following (takeout): Shrimp Fried Rice Shrimp with Lobster Sauce Szechuan Style Eggplant Sizzling Chicken Mongolian Beef I had a bit of a problem deciphering their menu because there weren't a lot of details as to ingredients, so I took chances and prayed they were dishes we've had before. Everything was delicious, plentiful and mostly recognizable... with the exception of the shrimp with lobster sauce. That was more soup-like and watered down from what we're used to, but it was still really good. All dishes were loaded with protein and vegetables, well seasoned and sauced, and textures were soft or crunchy, just as we knew them to be... and just as we loved them. We've since ordered from them again, and they were (very happily) consistently delicious. We are sooooooo happy to now have a LOCAL Chinese restaurant that we can trust and enjoy. We may even dine there and not do the takeout thing for a change. (I really would like to ask them what some of their other dishes are on the menu cuz I would like more options, truth be told. However, if the dishes above are the only ones I would ever choose to order, I'm fine with that, too.)
