We have been going to China Stix since 1990 it has always been excellent whether it was to eat there or to take to go Yesterday I picked up food to go. I ordered two lemon chicken lunches to go with extra lemon sauce on the side, a Chinese chicken salad, extra dressing on the side. The lemon chicken sauce was on it no extra, the chicken was hard as a rock, we couldn't even cut it. It was soggy on the outside and hard chicken inside, It was, absolutely horrible and we could not eat it They have new containers since I've been there last and in it it has the rice, chow mein, lemon chicken and chicken salad all in one and the chicken salad is cold. It was awful. The chicken salad was hot. It had ran all over inside the container. The side order of Chinese chicken salad was excellent I am not sure what happened to the restaurant maybe a new cook not sure but it used to be a 10+ now. One of my favorite take out restaurants. Being from NY, I do miss the authentic Chinese food (being I am Chinese myself), I come to the fact that take out is the closest thing. So I try all the local take out Chinese places and they are either too salty, or not salty enough. Until I found this place. I mean the lunch specials cannot be beat. The portions are large and the food ALWAYS comes out hot as the sun! The servers have always been great with me and my family when we frequent there. It's sad when I drink so much ice tea there that the refills make the ice fill up the cup. I digress, the restaurant is a great place to head for lunch, you don't need to get all dressed up to eat there. It's a real relaxing place and it is the closest thing to Chinese take out that I have found in Texas thus far.And I have been here since 2009. read more

Saw 2 flies in my soup!!! See my pics. Scared to eat my main course! I saw the first fly I said, hey, no biggie, it happens. But a SECOND FLY in the SAME soup!??! That means you don't wash your food and your dirty restaurant. Sick! I see you raised your food prices too. Guess we have to pay more for flies. I'm mad because I actually really liked this place a lot until now!! You are going to catch the same bad press as Formosa Garden that was just in the news for being filthy and disgusting! Pricier than most Chinese restaurants that I've been to in San Antonio, but the quality of the food is so much better than what I've come across in our city. There are some values on the menu. E.g., if you get a large soup ($4.95?), expect enough for multiple people. I usually also buy the Moo-shu pork - which is a dish consisting of chopped pork, scrambled eggs, mushrooms and cabbage if you're not familiar - which comes with 4 shells and sauce. The Orange Beef is fantastic; the only place I've had better Orange Beef is in a Boston Chinatown restaurant. Definitely a great take-out option at Bulverde / Evans (on the Walgreen's side) when you are coming home and are looking for dinner for the family. read more

My family and I have lived in the area for 7 years and probably only eaten China Stix 5 times and the last time being at least 2 years ago. We decided to give it a go as we were in the mood for Chinese and our regular place is a little farther. We were pleasantly surprised with not just the quality of food but the portions as well. We ordered 2 orders of lemon chicken and my wife and both boys barely made it through one. We put a whole order in the fridge. The chicken was thick and juicy and the lemon sauce was great. I ordered the triple delight and was very happy with the flavor and spiciness. The rice was also good and tasted very fresh. Had China Stix delievered last night. It was really great. I highly recommend the Lemon chicken. It was literally three whole chicken breast sliced up, and the dipping sauce that went with it was great. I also had the Chicken Lo Mein, which has some dark meat chicken in it. It was good even though I do prefer white meat. The egg rolls were also really good. Only 4 stars because the delivery did take about an hour and a half, we did order the food at like 8:30p so maybe that had something to do with it. Will eat here again. read more

So I guess I'm getting on this kick of trying new restaurants due to the Yelp recommendations and forcing my husband to eat more Asian food. I'm sure it will stop once the money stops flowing. This place had good reviews, so my husband and I decided to try it. He was very reluctant since it was mostly a take out place. We were very pleasantly surprised to find the inside does NOT look like a take out place. They even have my favorite wine stocked, Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio. Definitely a plus! However, we were there for lunch, so I wasn't able to partake. Darn! I ordered the pork with garlic sauce lunch special and a hot and sour soup (an extra $1). I don't usually order a soup, especially when it costs extra. But, again, I listened to the Yelp recommendations. Bad decision! The soup was ehh, and the crispy Chinese noodles that you put in the soup were very stale. Again, another Yelper fav. The pork with garlic sauce was very good. They even swapped vegetables for the ones I liked. It came with an egg roll which was alright. They had sweet and sour sauce instead of duck sauce. I don't know why, but that is a pet peeve of mine. My husband ordered the General Tso's chicken, of course. It was okay. The chicken was very tender, but it was a little too salty for my taste. Funny ending though. If you absolutely need to have mediocre Chinese food, this is your place. I've actually tried this place a few times already (lunch delivery while at work), so this review isn't just a knee jerk reaction to a bad dish. The Lo Mein noodles were soggy and bland. Not a good deal at 10 bucks an order. The eggrolls were among the worst I've tried. The oil was not hot enough when they fried it so they were soggy and completely saturated with oil. Their Kung Pao chicken was ok, but I'd rather go to Panda Express for Kung Pao The only thing I tried that was halfway decent was the eggplant with garlic sauce, but even then I had to pour about a half inch of oil off the top before I could eat it. If you want good Chinese food in Stone Oak go to Li's. I would even recommend Taipei over this place. read more

We have eaten at China Stix several times, both in restaurant and take out dining. Last evening we had absolutely the worst experience. The quality of the food was terrible. The sweet and sour chicken was dry and lacked anything other than over cooked and dry chicken. Awful! And the teriyaki chicken, a "specialty dish", was chicken with barbeque sauce. Again terrible. The meals were in a bag that was tied when I picked them up. We were VERY DISAPPOINTED!! I sent a message to the restaurant expresssing our displeasure but have not received a response. read more

I came here with my cousin for the first time last week, and enjoyed it so much, I brought my dad today. The War Won Ton soup is chock full of crisp vegetables and deliciousness. We were supposed to split the soup, but he ended up eating the whole thing because he enjoyed it so much! My daughter ordered Lemon chicken both times, and both times chicken was juicy on the inside, crisp on the outside. Portions are very generous, even at lunchtime. Eggrolls are just ok. Wish they were crispier. Staff works together to take orders and bring dishes out, which I appreciate. No "that's not my table" attitude. read more

About once a month my wife and I get food from here for dinner for pickup. My review is only on the food for ordering it for pick up, we have never eaten inside. Quality of food is awesome we have tried wok on wheels and other plus but have always found our way back to this Chinese restaurant. Fast food like service! Every time I call ahead it's always about 10-15 minutes and have never have messed up an order in the 2 years I have been ordering from them. A little pricey I think but you definitely get what you pay for and I always have some for left overs the next day! I recommend this place to all that want good take out!! read more

The garlic chicken and hot & sour soup are decent. I have yet to find a Chinese restaurant in SA that has good fried rice. Portions are good size and prices are reasonable. The customer service is nonexistent. The servers refuse to answer the phone or make eye contact with anyone who walks in the door if the hostess is busy. Sometimes I have to call two or three times to place a carryout order before someone answers. That being said, it is convenient if you live/work in the area and the food is decent. Expect for lunch specials to start at close to $7, regardless of what their website says. read more

My wife and I go out for dinner most Friday's. Since China Stix is very near our home we choose to go there more often than some other Chinese restaurants. I am particularly fond of their Hot and Sour Soup. They serve it with 'crispy' noodles and I like it very much. I've enjoyed the General Soo's (SP) chicken and the seafood delight. My wife likes their broccoli and beef. Compared to the "finest" Chinese restaurants it is middle of the road, but for a decent LARGE dinner it is very good. We like it. read more

Some of the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. And I have had a ton, since I am Chinese. I ordered take out. Beef Lo Mein and Orange Chicken. The Lo Mein tasted like salty soy sauce noodles with tough beef. The Orange Chicken was tough, greasy, bland and had tons of food coloring. I only live a mile from the restaurant, so it was nice and hot when I got it home. But, it was so bad I threw it away. read more

We had food delivered while staying at JW Marriot and it was great! All the food ordered was delicious and very flavorful. The portions were very generous. When placing the order, we were told ahead of time that the wait would be 45 mins to an hour. It was exactly that. Good food and very affordable. General Tso's Chicken was pretty good, not great. Fried rice was not edible. Beef flat rice noodle dish was not up to par either. Corn egg drop soup was decent but lacked the typical savor normally found in the dish. In addition, the prices were high for the amount you get. We won't be back. read more

Small restaurant on a corner strip shopping center. Chinese selections are all here: stirfries, lo mein, sweet and sour...everything we tried was decent and the combo lo-mein downright tasty.
