I was eager to try the Mongolian beef as it looked very delicious BUT I was highly disappointed as it lacked flavor. They give pretty nice portions but again I could not enjoy it. The establishment has a nice cozy feel to it so hoping they can improve on the food a bit

China One Buffet thermostats on Sept. 29th #healthdepartment

So, my husband and I drove from Hutto to Taylor for lunch just to try their Chinese buffet. It's near impossible to find a Chinese buffet in this area. We arrived at 11:15am, only 15 minutes after they opened. The interior was very worn, dated, dingy, and not the most hygienic. The bathroom was also a little dirty. Like I said, we arrived right after they opened and there was only 3 entree choices and some noodles, no rice! There was a big pan of egg rolls, spring rolls, and some extremely dry, tough-looking meat on a skewer mixed together; a huge pile all jumbled together as if they threw all of the leftovers from last night into a pan to serve today. Clue number 1 that this old food. There was a pan of fried dumplings; there were only 5 dumplings rattling around in the pan. Now the restaurant only had one elderly customer besides myself and my husband and I know she hadn't emptied an entire hotel pan full of dumplings. Clue number 2 that this is old food. My husband tried the "meat" with broccoli; it tasted old and was of unidentified origin. I tried the seafood moo goo hai pan, which was bland and fishy at the same time. We only had 2 bites from our plates total. The iced tea we were served was essentially tap water it was so weak. The final straw was when we started sweating from the extreme heat in the restaurant. I took a pic of the thermostats, it was 82 degrees in there! We got up to leave, we waited for the hostess to come out so we could tell her we were leaving, but she never did. My husband and I walked out and the hostess comes running out behind us, flagging us down. My husband tells her that the food is inedible, old and disgusting and she tells him - get this - the "fresh" food is coming out soon!!!! So how old was the food we were just eating?! Mystery solved, they serve at least one day old food to the people who show up early. Personally, I wouldn't put up with it. In the end, she charged us $4 for the dishwater iced teas were served. Take my advice, folks, AVOID China One Buffet in Taylor

I went here as my friend pleaded that for urgent hunger pains this is the place to go. Well I've tried it and I must say...looks can be deceiving. The decor is old cafeteria style, and very clean. The service are nice, respectful, and unlike any other place, they do not feel entitled to tips (though I tipped highly). The food selection was smaller than Golden Corral. However due to the lack of random screaming children touching everything , and the ability to have select foods only, the food here was twice as good as Golden Corral. Don't get me wrong, some stuff was still stale. But overall it was a great place. Salad Bar Everything good Only room for improvement is the mismatch temperatures between pasta salads and lettuce e Chicken- delicious and perfectly seasoned Spaghetti- I'd eat another bow 3.) Catfish- not bad 4.) steak- very good 5.) pot road-delicious menudo- yeah it was fine Chicken and rice soup- good Desserts All of them were good especially the red cake, and peach cobbler. He was very nice and helped us order since we couldn't pronounce much on the menu. We got a decent amount of food for 4 of us! I got the Brie with cranberry sauce it was a 4 out of 5. I did not know it would be fried which is why I took one point away. My friends got the potato salad and it was delish! It came warm and was very flavorful! They also got a pitcher of Ratler beer which tasted just like juice! It was delish! My friends got the soup and the Reuben. All were pretty tasty! My husband ordered the Bretzel which was delicious. Then we got two slices of cake. DO NOT SLEEP ON THE BEE STING CAKE! It was divine and I plan on buying a whole one for my birthday! It has almonds, honey, Bavarian sweet cream and Bavarian sweet bread it is phenomenal! I cannot recommend it enough! Each slice was $7 but so well worth it!

Got there right on time, but it seemed they hadn't even started my order yet. As I waited, I was left confused by the interior. The place was completely empty except for one person working the register. All the tables and chairs had been pushed and piled together to one side and there were a bunch of boxes stacked towards the back of the room. The floor was filthy. There were also employees going back-and-forth yelling at one another pretty regularly. I don't know how they would expect anyone to want to dine in with that atmosphere. I finally received my to go order and made the trek home. There I realized there was no rice for our entrees. I called to see if we could get a partial refund due to the error. They argued with me for 5 minutes - not claiming that they gave me rice, but that it shouldn't matter and that I shouldn't get a refund. Then they said they'd have to ask the manager. They set the phone down and had me listening to yelling for a while. No refund, no accountability. On top of this experience, the food was not great. I won't pretend it was terrible, but nothing special and certainly not worth the experience and errors in putting an order together. The lo mein was bland and a bit dry. The lettuce wraps lacked flavor though the lettuce was fresh. The hot and sour soup also wasn't as flavorful as expected and did not have any heat to it. Ribs were decent, but wings dry and overcooked. I am shocked by the response to what seems like a reasonable request. I paid for something I didn't get and felt I should've gotten a partial refund. During the conversation, I asked if they were interested in trying to retain me as a customer and they weren't. That's fine. Plenty of other places in the area to take my business.

This restaurant is the halfway point between mine and my boyfriend's house. So if I want to pick up some good dinner on the way I will call in our order to Shogun and pick it up. Our typical order is the Mikado special for him and Chicken or shrimp Teppanyaki for me. The orders, even the kids menu items come with rice, veggies, house salad, onion soup and a shrimp appetizer. Every visit over the past 4 years, even last night, The greeters and the takeout hosts have always been super friendly and prompt with orders. There's a full bar so you're welcome to order a drink while you wait. I've been known to order a glass of wine on one or five my visits. :) The food is a bit pricey but you get a lot for what you pay for. The flavor is always been good and consistent. I love the onion soup and the house salad. I'll never order the cucumber salad again because it has imitation crab on it and it's just not my prefer type of cucumber salad. I love Japanese and Korean cucumber salad but not this one. And that's okay. If you like imitation crab in your cucumber salad, give it a try. Anywho, as long as this man is my man and this is remains our halfway point, I'm sure I'll be ordering takeout many more times :)

But recently last year and this year, we notice there's been a change of sushi chef and now the sushi quality has fallen below standards. This is our third time with this same negative experiences (2 take out and 1 in person) and now this prompt this one star review. The problem with the sushi is the protein (fish) is cut so super thin. The picture I included does not show how incredibly thin and skimpy the fish is. It's like paper thin thickness and to the point I can not taste the salmon or eel at all. I know the food cost has increased and you need to save cost but skimping paper thin fish in sushi and charging $18-$20 a roll is such rip off. At this point I am paying for rice, sauce, avocado, seaweed, and labor to make the sushi. Especially when we know the sushi was not made like this before. The thickness of the fish used to be the proper thickness in sushi restaurant industry. Unfortunately we cannot longer recommend Iron Fish for this reason. Paying that amount for the star (fish) of the show to be barely there is simply not acceptable. I sure hope the owner takes this feedback and change things. You can see old pictures I've taken and posted for this business and compare it to the sushi now. There's visible difference. If things change, you know we will be happy to return and support.
