a pile of ribs on a piece of tin foil

If I could give China Maxim a lessor mark, I would. We used to like going here as some of the appetizers were really good. Tonight I just wanted some spare ribs as a quick thing to pick up. When I got them home, they were burnt! Now how hard is it to NOT burn any food..???!!! Ever since this new management took over, a couple of weeks ago, the food has been horrible. Had some the first day they opened, and it was bad. Decided to give them another try because a lot of places have a few break-in days to get ready. Do yourself a favor - stay away!!!

Pork fried rice with no pork lol

This use to be my favorite place around the new owners are cutting corners ! tossed the rice in the trash ( no flavor no pork in the rice ) the prices have been raised not worth it at all

The extremely overcooked egg that I found in my Hot and Sour Soup

What we got: Smoked Bacon and Dried Tofu Stir-Fry Deep-fried Oyster Mushroom Spicy Sir-Fried Shredded Potato Every one of these dishes was just perfect, and the menu has so much more to explore. One important note is that many of the authentic and different dishes available were on the in-house restaurant menu though I didn't see them online. Not sure if I missed something on the website, but I was very excited to see the menu they had in-house. We also enjoyed some equally authentic tea with our meal - the meal was good at every turn. The guy serving us - who I took to be the owner - was super helpful with suggestions and very friendly. Everything we had was cooked fresh, so not super fast, but definitely in reasonable time. The chef was amazing. If you are looking for a place with truly good authentic food that falls a bit outside the New England Chinese staples, I strongly recommend Oxyear. This is a small local corner restaurant, but well worth the trip.

Spareribs on the Bone: A very large serving for $16.50, painted red and additionally drizzled with honey, which drips into the bottom of the bowl for dipping. Tried twice: one time elite, one time near-elite. Good old-time flavor. Slightly firm bite that still has tenderness and moistness even aside from the glaze. Chicken Wings in Black Bean Sauce: Dark, bumpy, scalding hot, and relentlessly fierce, with unenhanced, undiluted, wonderful black bean flavor. Good quantity, good size, and nice marinade flavor under the sauce, but zero crispness. Messily delicious, and the potential is there to be near-elite if even only somewhat crisp. But as served, a little above average. Lobster Sauce: Dark and strong flavored. Near-elite. Sweet and Sour Chicken (on a combo): Big pieces, puffy and crispy, with not the greatest meat-to-batter ratio, but still solid enough. Standard issue red sauce, though nicely done. Overall, a bit above average but not noteworthy. Pork Strips (on the same combo): No other way to say it: dry, dry, and more dry. On the other hand, still average, because pork strips are usually dry. Duck sauce helped. Egg Roll (on the same combo): Very, very good, possibly near-elite. Crisp shell, mostly celery, nice moistness, very detectable pork. Pork Fried Rice (as full orders and on a combo): Mixed results, with two out of the three looking and tasting very tired, with light grains, light flavor, and even lightly colored/flavored pork. Much fresher and brighter another time. Boneless Ribs: These were excellent, and most likely cooked entirely from scratch after I ordered it. Bright red shellac, nice porky flavor, extremely fresh and juicy, not too sweet (though sweet is certainly fine on boneless, a la Ray's in Needham). Elite for sure. Quality runs the full gamut, but old-time, somewhat divey atmosphere helps if that's your thing. Service isn't polished, but very pleasant.

I will have to say the people were very nice. But I didn't go there to talk to nice people, I went for Chinese food. We thought we would try it due to the great reviews on Yelp. I called them prior as I wanted to know if they had Subgum Chow Mein. Subgum Chow Mein is chopped vegetable versus thin strips of vegetables. They said they could do that no problem. So I called in my order. Went to pick up and asked for red sauce for the chicken fingers we ordered. They said it was on the table. There was no red sauce on the table. I cant imagine what their sweet and sour chicken is like without red sauce...Take a look at the four horrible looking dried out chicken fingers we were given. My Subgum Chow Mein was not Subgum at all. It was strips in a brown sauce. I tried it anyway and it was horrible. Just horrible. The Boneless Spare Ribs reminded me of beef jerky they were so dried out. I ate some of the Pork Fried Rice as it was my only option. The other dinner had Beef Fried Rice which did not taste beefy at all. Huge pieces of beef that were like leather. The chicken fingers were horrible and really dried out and horrible tasting. The Chicken Chow Mein was subpar at best. No flavor. There is no way this place is a hidden gem. Hidden yes. Gem no.

For those who may follow my reviews, you'll recall that I was on the fence between trying the…read moresignature wings over the original chicken wings in order to determine if and what the difference was between the two. Turns out....you really DO pay two extra dollars for improved flavor. As ironically hysterical as that is, I honestly don't have a problem with it. It may very well be the quintessential reason for me granting this place another star. Since the time of writing my initial review, we've ordered take-out from this place more times than I can count. And they have consistently delivered in promptness, taste, and flavor every single time. I guess what I'm saying is....it's nice to know that first impression wasn't simply a fluke. I won't retread any former points I made. You can read the review which precedes this one if you want the full 'deetz'. Instead, I came here mainly to briefly discuss the significance between the signature wings versus the original chicken wings. And like I said, it's basically flavor. On the one hand, you've got the original chicken wings - which are rather prosaic both in flavor and appearance. They're....fine, for what they are. But pretty much....they're just regular chicken wings. Not much to write home about. On the other hand, if you opt for the $2 upgrade, what you'll experience with their signature wings will be nothing short of phenomenal. Not only are they jam packed with 10 times more flavor than their plebeian counterpart, they also have a kick of spice to them and also come garnished with sautéed onions. And, of course, I took a photo to illustrate what I'm describing here. I also wanted to expand a bit more on why their online ordering service is so outstanding. You can totally place orders in advance and, to our experience, they've always had our order ready for pickup the minute we arrive. So, yeah....their timing is spot-on! One time, we even somehow qualified for a $5 discount. Noice! Far as we're concerned, this place is the crème de la crème of Chinese take-away (lack of egg drop soup not withstanding). The fact that we're willing to make the 20 mile hike from Nashua and back every month or so should speak volumes. Feng Shui is now officially worth 5 unbelievably delectable signature wings seasoned to perfection out of 5.

My TV Dinner quality Orange chicken also took forty minutes to reach my table. If you're cooking fresh chicken with fresh bread crumbs and Orange sauce, it would not have the consistency of soggy rubber bands, nor would it have a watery taste, which indicates being previously frozen.
