The spot is very cozy, good for family and friends. The waiters and waitresses are all very friendly and hospitable. We weren't planning on getting a lot of food but there were just so many items on the menu that we wanted to try. Crab rangoons were fresh and sweet and creamy, you can never go wrong with those. Chicken fingers were alright, I liked the batter, but wished they also had sweet and spicy chicken dipping sauce. I don't eat sushi usually, but the spicy tuna maki sounded very good. I was pleasantly surprised at the flavor, as it reminded me of sushi bake that I make at home. The general gaos chicken was saucy and crunchy, sweet and savory. The mapo tofu was definitely spicy, but I felt like it was missing something. The calamari was good, but wasn't as salty and peppery as other places. They do say in their menu that they cook with less salt and oil, so it was a healthier taste than China Star or Mings Seafood. A good place so far! read more

What a hidden gem! Tucked away in the back of a strip mall on DW hwy I had no idea they were here until they were mentioned repeatedly in a typical city Facebook post asking for the bes Chinese. We ordered the Sesame chicken, beef fried rice, beef sticks, chicken fingers and boneless spare ribs. It was difficult to pick a favorite!! The beef sticks (beef Terriyaki) were phenomenal.... The rice was perfectly cooked and delicious. I was worried we wouldn't like the sesame chicken just based on the looks but it was packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. The chicken fingers were cooked perfectly and tasted great. The boneless spare ribs were our least favorite but that was because everything else was exceptional. They had a good flavor and were not fatty or chewy. We just filled up on everything else. Tgey6weren't the best or worse that we had but were still good and I'm glad we tried them. This will be our new go to for Chinese take out and I can't wait to try some of the other options on their extensive menu. read more

The crab rangoons were plump and the right mix of sweet and savory, more on the sweet side than savory which was divine. The maki was quick, fresh and flavorful. We can have discussions here without the worry of bothering other patrons or having background noise to compete with. The service is always stellar. Decent food. I suggest ordering off the Authentic Chinese section of the menu. The bar is always full, and sometimes pretty loud, so don't sit near it if you want quiet. The bar at this restaurant is always busy, and The first time I came to this restaurant I actually turned around and left because the bar was so crowded and it seemed like a pandemic nightmare. The second time, I returned because they had really good reviews for sushi so after waiting for a few minutes we were finally sat in the dining room which was quiet. The food was okay. The tempura was a little doughy. The house vegetable Maki was visually pretty, but the taste was off. We did not finish our roll. Delicious lunch at Shanghai Osaka yesterday. Started with chicken wings and steamed dumplings. They came out piping hot with flavorful dipping sauces. Next came Chicken Pad Thai and seaweed salad. These guys should get the world record for the worst food in the planet. This food will change your life forever and make you think twice before ordering any Chinese food from any restaurant ever again. They should be paying their customers for eating this trash. Marshy fish is going to the grinder because the garbage bag does not deserve to have this disposed in it. Even garbage bags have feelings. This needs to be disintegrated down to its atoms so that not even a single molecule remains in the air, water and environment. I suspect this may even reopen the ozone hole in the northern hemisphere. We have ordered from this place once before. Apparently we had forgotten how badly we cursed the food from that time. The lucky family member remembered that experience and cooked food at home itself. Not all Chinese food is good. Some is too greasy, all dark meat, rubbery meat, too fishy etc. Shanghai offers all white meat chicken (or regular). I have yet to get rubbery, over-cooked or dried out meat. Been there maybe 5 or 6x and have always left satisfied. Drinks are great...a bit strong for this light weight. Definitely worth checking out! Shanghai Osaka opened last week in the former Formosa Taipei II location at Sun Plaza serving Chinese and Japanese cuisine. This restaurant grand opening was delayed by almost two weeks (July 27th-I tried going here, but the renovations were still taking place with old buffet tables sitting outside), but I'm very happy to see it now open. The dining room was remodeled nicely and the place still has a small cocktail bar and sushi bar. They offer Chinese and Japanese luncheon specials until 3PM daily (except holidays) when most entrees on the come with choice of soup, choice of rice (white, brown, or pork fried rice), choice of appetizer (Chinese), and salad (Japanese). Lunch entrees are under $10 and most dinner entrees $10.50-$22.95. I stopped here for lunch takeout with a couple minutes to spare before 3PM. I ordered the Shrimp with Eggplant Luncheon Special ($7.50 plus tax) with hot & sour soup, 2 crab rangoons, and pork fried rice. The lady who took my order chatted with me for a few moments and the food was all set to go in under 10 minutes. The Shrimp with Eggplant dish had several tender jumbo shrimp with soft Chinese eggplant slices, scallions, and a delicious garlic sauce. The hot & sour soup was mild spicy which had plenty of bamboo, roots, tofu, mushrooms, pepper, pork, and eggs. The pork fried rice tasted fresh which had egg, peas, carrot, & small tender roast pork pieces. The crab rangoons were fantastic, cream cheese/crab mixture stuffed in a folded crisp pockets, not greasy nor brittle. They nailed everything I ordered! The portion of food was the right size for lunch and was not piled/loaded (multiple meals) like at most Chinese restaurants I've been to, quantity over quality in many cases. This place is THE spot. Great energetic atmosphere by the bar meets the classy dining room. Big menu with quality food- comfort food AND gourmet food. The sushi is to die for!!! The owner Jenn, and staff are all very personable and friendly and remember you when you come in again. If you're craving good sushi and you're a foodie, I don't recommend this place for sushi. Fish for sushi/sashimi was not super fresh and the flavor of the fish was not there. We really enjoy Shanghai Osaka for Chinese in the area. We've ordered takeout a few times and it's always been fresh and flavorful. The portions are generous which is nice, too. We like the spring rolls, chicken pad Thai, General Tsao and Budda Sesame Tofus. I've been to many sushi places and usually the rolls are small and lack a few ingredients but Osaka's rolls were very well put together. I would have given five stars, but the waiter lacked friendliness, attentiveness, and barely gave us any attention, if so, it was quick and short, I felt like I couldn't add a few comments or ask for anything after I had ordered my plates. I walk in and there's no one to greet the customers so I had to ask other customers if they were waiting in line for take out. This is authentic Sichuan Chinese cuisine. If you like spicy, you gon' get spicy. So dont be a 鬼佬. Order something from the authentic Chinese menu and experience something new and wonderful. The hostess and staff are very friendly. They understand english, the problem is you probably dont understand what you are ordering. Dont mistake what this place is, it's not a crap take out, its a sit down restaurant specializing in real chinese food. SB and I went to Shanhai Osaka for dinner early on Saturday evening. Overall, we had a pleasant experience. The dining room is nicly appointed and service was friendly. Prices for sushi are on point with other restaurants in the area, and quality of what we had was good though nothing to write home about. We split a couple of maki and an order of General Tso's chicken. I was actually particularly impressed with the Tso's. It was clearly cooked to order, crispy, served piping hot, and was not overly sweet, which tends to be the death-knell of chinese-american entrees for me. The serving was smaller than one is used to, but that's a good thing... it was plenty for me at the time (mind you, I was also having rolls), with just enough to take home for a small lunch. I would definitely go back to Shanghai Osaka for the chinese, though I think I would scale back a bit on the rolls and instead try some appetizers. read more
