Party of two dined here for the first time. We ordered the Senior plate which offered soup of the day, egg fu young, chow mein, sweet and sour pork, and an egg roll. The portions were BIG. We could have shared one. Egg drop soup was hot temperature wise. Large pieces of egg white was in the broth. Corn pieces was a nice find in the broth. The presentation of the dinner plate was good. The food was delicious and hot. The soup and the egg roll had to be set aside to cool. Egg fu young was crisp on the outside and not mushy inside. Tasty brown sauce with chopped garlic and green onions was covering the three pieces. Sweet and sour pork had white onion sparingly. Lots of sweet sauce. I've always liked to find pineapple in this dish. This lacked that little touch. The chow mein was basically the noodles with a few pieces of meat. Might have been chicken. It mixed nicely with the sweet and sour sauce. To find the place we drove past as it looked closed. Came back and saw the open sign was lit up. The service was efficient. The restaurant is in an old style Taco Bell. The interior has been done to mimic a Chinese restaurant to the best of their abilities. A few art pieces tie into the Chinese theme. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in town. The servers are always friendly and always make sure you have what you need. I have tried several dishes here and have always been satisfied. I would definitely recommend the coconut shrimp and the china doll fried rice. Though they do not have the lowest prices on their food as some of the other local Chinese restaurants they are fairly priced for the quality of food. They are generous with their portion sizes and you never have to wait long for your food. If you are ever in town and want Chinese I recommend you try this place out. read more

Smells good. Looks pretty good for restaurant that used to be a taco bell. Decorated nice. Food was exceptionally fresh and delicious. I left out of the restaurant satisfied and full, almost busting at the seems. And had plenty of food to take home to the kids. If your in the area and want Chines, then so far this one has them beat. I had the Teriyaki chicken, and my husband had the kung poa chicken, we also had a plate of the Black Pepper Chicken, which both of us loved. This place is a hole in the wall but has great food!! My 2 year old loves the egg drop soup and the noodles, but all the food we have had here is great. If I had one complaint it would be that they are so busy with takeout orders, which is great for them. I ordered the orange chicken and chow mein combo plate and it was absolutely terrible. The orange chicken tasted old and was really tough to bite into. Gross and unsanitary... and that was just the dining room. We came in because we had never been here since it opened. The door was extremely dirty, like it hadn't been washed in a few days. Walking in it smelled like cooking meat and burning oil. Three of the tables still had plastic utensils, take-outs boxes and bits of food still on them. It was only 4 in the afternoon, so fairly quiet. My friend ordered sweet and sour pork with chow mein and I ordered sweet and sour chicken with rice. We made an attempt to find a table to sit at, but most of the other tables were still covered in sticky sauce, food, and a child's diaper at one booth. We decided to take our food home. I give them two stars for cheap prices and fast service But the real nightmare started when we got home. One bite into my chicken, I realized my chicken was completely raw on the inside. After cutting into my other pieces, all raw. (At least we know why the service was so fast.) My rice was good. My friend, worried about her food being raw also, cut into hers. She had five pieces in her dish, two contained meat, and the other 3 were just large pieces of batter that were fried. (no wonder its cheap.) We immediately went back to demand a refund, the lady said that she didn't remember us and that we were trying to rip her off. I produced the receipt, but still no refund. If I could give negative stars, I would. I left one star for cheap prices and fast service, i just wish they would give a customer what they pay for and not give them sweet and sour salmonella. read more

I ordered the spicy garlic chicken and my friend had sweet & sour pork. The chow mein and fried rice lacked any vegetables and was sticky as in overcooked. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken for about $7. It came with a small bowl of egg drop and celery soup, a fried won ton, fried rice, fried noodles and the chicken. By the time I returned from using the restroom which is located outside in the back, my food was ready. Food was pretty good. Won tons had a strong ginger taste which was good. Pretty tasty Chinese food. If I could give half stars, I'd give this place 3.5. It was more authentic feeling (and tasting) than the New Asian Restaurant we'd eaten at the day before. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. The food, however, was more of what I'd expect from East Coast Chinese than from California Chinese. I consider it more junk food style Chinese, as it's very Americanized. For all of that, my food was tasty and I'd consider them next time we're in the area. read more

My favorite is the sweet-and-sour chicken lunch special it comes with the sweet-and-sour chicken fried rice and chow mein plus a stuffed won ton. A little hole in the wall place. Parking kinda sucked with a full size truck, but we made it work. Walking in, a small place, old looking, but clean. Waitress was super nice. Had booster seats and high chairs for kids, but it is kinda cramped space. Got our menus, and decided on the dinner combos, potstickers, and a side of white rice. Food came out quickly. Start was what appeared to be egg flower soup. Hubby loved it, MIL ate it but wasn't thrilled, not enough egg filler outside of the broth for me. Next we all just stared at the potstickers. It looked as if they were deep fried on two of the three sides, instead of the usual fried while being steamed which gives the crunch to the bottom only. Gave them a try, flavor was good, but texture of the dough was off from what we are used to. As our dinner plates came out, wow, so much food! We dove in. I have to say, best chow mein I have found. Chicken fried rice was so so. Too salty for me. I had the sweet and sour chicken, it was swimming in sauce. The breading was not crunchy, almost like it had been sitting in the sauce for a while. Good flavor to the sauce. Hubby tried the sweet and sour shrimp. Again, drenched in sauce. He would puck up a piece and try to scrape sauce off so he could taste the shrimp. He said it was okay, but won't try it again. He loved the fried rice and chow mein. MIL had the Happy Family. She siad besides again, being drenched in sauce, flavor was good. She didn't like the rice, said too salty, but said best chow mein she's had. Now, I had ordered the white rice for my LO. She's 15mo. We gave her some with a little of the soup. She liked it, ate all we mixed. But, when we went back to get another small scoop of rice out of the serving bowl for her, it had turned rock hard. We all tried to get some, and gave up. You could shove the spoon in, but couldn't bring just a small bit up, just the whole clump of what was in the bowl. So needless to say, she got a squeeze pouch on the way home to finish off her meal. Our Waitress was very attentive and nice. She seemed to be the only one, during dinner rush, at one point, 24 patrons and she was running ragged, but kept a smile on her face and made sure to always ask if you needed anything, or how things were going. All in all worth trying, might try again down the road and ask for less sauce and see how that works out. read more

My family loves eating at the China Doll! The food is amazing! I really like the general chicken and the egg foo yung. My mom is partial to the coconut chicken. My husband has tried many of the offerings on the menu and has liked everything so far. The prices are reasonable for the large portion sizes (about $10 per person per meal average). The lady who runs the restaurant and serves the food is so nice and friendly, and she always remembers my little sister's regular order. The decor of the restaurant itself is nothing impressive, but it's easy to overlook with a hot, steamy plate of delicious Chinese food sitting in front of you. read more

In my view one of the best Chinese restaurants north of Sacramento. I am particularly fond of the hot and sour soup on days when I'm not feeling well.
