So let me start at where else, the beginning. Fort Worth is lavishing in a renaissance, the caterpillar is finally turning into a butterfly, with big beautiful wings, that smell like a margarita. West 7th street, our very own Deep Ellum, our answer to Dallas' Greenville Ave has arrived and is off to a roaring start. So what does that have to do with Chimy's? Everything. A big economy is sustained by small business. In this case, a gorgeous dive of a place. This is the kind of place where cowboy boots meet curly moustaches and manbuns. The parking lot is full of trucks, but they are the $40k to $60k variety, no mud, no manure. Most places tend to cater to one crowd and this place has mass appeal. Now let us settle what this place is for once, a bar that serves food. The thrust of most of these pop ups is alcoholic beverages in a hipster atmosphere where the young folks can gather, in a youthful upscale spot. Not elegant, not Galleriaesque, but techie urban upscale divery. Fusion. I am slightly over 50 so this was definitely not the place for me, but no one made me feel out of place other then when I left, a couple of 20 something guys held the door for me as I exited, I said thank you, they said you're welcome "Sir". Holee Molee, I am a sir so this means this was their spot, not mine. Inside it was loud and vibrant with young souls chatting, laughing, and it was standing room only. So if you are young, and in need of a place to be uplifted, this is your spot. You order your food, find your spot, go to another window, get your order, eat. Had the Fajita nachos, generous portion enough for two. The meat was done perfect enough with thick juicy morsels of steak in a serving amount to well justify the $10 spot they cost. Really good price for Fajita nacho's that actually taste great. Drinks refills are free and self serve so no way to feel jipped, guzzle on. Now is it divey, yes, but that is the charm of an area that was once boarded up and in decline for years. This area was gone, a memory, and is now alive and growing into an area set to over take Dallas, Southlake, and anywhere you can name. No need to leave Fort Worth. We are still Cowtown, but that cow better run because we are serving up some great chow in Fort Worth, not just roping them. So me, I am not simply rating this place for what it is today, but the journey we have taken as a city to get here, and the growth spots like this promise to give us if we give them a chance to survive and grow us all. Small sparse tables today, a job for some college student, and valet service for "Sir" in the future. OMG. Was watching the Cavs beat down the Celtics, and the place was jumping with life, even with Sir in the house. You just have to appreciate being 52, in a dive with nacho and alcohol fueled youngin's, that are still polite, mannerable young folks, that truly go out of their way to welcome one and all. All that said, is this a 5 star spot as compared to spit shined eateries with white linen table cloths where they swoop by, see a crumb on your table cloth, brush it off, and refold your cloth napkin, of course not, but this is certainly a 5 star dive, made for 5 star young people out to shout away a tough day, or tough week building our future in the tech industry, working a shift at Wal Mart, unwinding from farming and growing our veggies, or whatever it is that was wound, that needed unwinding. I've heard their tacos aren't that amazing so I opted for ballpark style pulled pork nachos, and I was blown away! They were DELICIOUS and enough to feed a whole table. Not to mention, CHEAP! The drinks were strong and the dirty ranch water is highly recommended for a lighter calorie margarita that will still knock your socks off. The chimichangas are what you'd expect. After getting mostly through mine, I honestly wished I had ordered a salad or a cup of soup. Super heavy. The patio is a mess. There are tables next to each other where literally if one chair is out, the one by it has to be all the way in. It's also tiny and boxed in, yet dog friendly. We had a huge celebration at our church after worship. To help celebrate, the church arranged for several food trucks to be set up for all of us to enjoy delectable bites. So I've seen some negative reviews on this place but checked it out anyways. I ordered the green chili pork nachos/ballpark style which means with queso as the cheese instead of shredded cheese and I'm glad i did cause the nachos were good. The portion was large and I couldn't even finish it, I also had a few margaritas and tried three different ones. The first one I had was the house margarita on the rocks which was okay, the second one I had was the Lexus margarita I can't remember what type of tequila but it was good, in the third margarita which is my favorite of the three was the Silver King once again I can't remember the exact type of tequila but this was my favorite, they were all strong and tasty. Some friends and I stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon m. I like that you order your food at the counter and then seat yourself. They have several options and being the indecisive person I am it took me a while to make up my mind. I ended up ordering the grilled chicken taco salad. This was a very "average" experience. The only thing I can really give them is the music past 9pm and the margaritas. It's behind a strip center, basically in the back parking lot. I work in that shopping center occasionally and so we eat here maybe ever other week, its quick...cheap and decent. The food isn't Mansion worthy, but definitely HUGE portions and very generous on their condiments bar. The nachos come in a pizza box with a side of guac...mmm. I usually get the beef fajita nachos...they have onions, green peppers, cheese, lettuce and then I throw on pico, sour cream and dig in!!! They have lots of other options for their nachos...so if you dont like onions or green peppers, you can just get the beef or chicken, plain and simple! My friend likes their burgers and I have to say, their fries are yum-o! I've also had the 'gut rocket' before (their version of a chimichanga)...its good, a little greasy, but what do you expect from a fried burrito?? I've never had their rice or beans, so I can't comment on those. It's kind of a random place. Not totally Mexican and not totally American. Kind of a melting pot if you will. The tables inside are crammed in pretty tight so get cozy or expect to stand. The beef and chicken nachos are great! One order is huge so be sure to share with someone. The half and half margarita is my favorite. It's half rocks, half frozen. Every now and then I'll change it up and get the sangria swirl but I still get half and half. During game time there is always a line out the door to get in. Expect to wait at least 10-20 minutes. You might want to go early if you prefer to sit. read more

Cheap and flavorful food, fairly-priced drinks that are generous in pours, fun atmosphere, and it is the perfect start to a night out on 7th. The bartenders and waitresses are great. There are numerous TVs to get whichever game on that you are interested in watching. The patio is nice as well, and when it gets too packed, just move over to the Marfa Room. While it's a bit hard to find, it's worth the trouble. The Green Chili Pork Chimychanga is delicious and the Chicken quesadillas are phenomenal! The wait time is consistent whether it is busy or not. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly. It gets plenty of traffic and is still always clean. The biggest bonus on top of the the food and atmosphere, is the fact that it's really very affordable. I haven't eaten here just yet, but stopped in for a cold one a couple of weeks ago to get a sense of what the place was like: ultimately, Chimy's is what the name implies, a beer-first Tex Mex style hangout that was populated on this day with small groups of friends catching up over happy hour. It plays smaller on the inside than it appeared on the outside, and you order at the counter as you walk in. Others have mentioned the sort of dual citizenship at play here: Chimy's is unabashedly a Tech owned business, but also pays homage to the local scene with a number of Horned Frog items hanging about as well. There are two type of people that come to Chimy's...TCU kids and Non-TCU kids. As a Non-TCU kid,I have a great time coming here,kicking back a Cadillac (see menu),chomping on some nachos,and people watching the species of college kids referred to as TCU students. They're truly one of a kind.
