After turning 21 in Lubbock, I was introduced to Chimy's. The Texas Tech location was a staple of college life: a great bar with a patio, good food, good drinks, and the perfect place to catch a football game. Some of my fondest college memories happened there. Watching Tech win an away game. Meeting a British hitchhiker. Devouring their cheese fries and sipping a Silver King after finishing my Master's. Chimy's was there for me when most bars weren't. While I was in Fort Worth for work, I was asked to help find some bars in the area. I had a little trick up my sleeve. "This area is good, guys!" I said. I didn't actually know. I just knew Chimy's was there. Inside, the Pacers were lighting it up on one TV and Texas Tech was winning a softball game on another. The energy was high. The place was full of current and former Tech students, and it turns out it's also an official Texas Tech Alumni spot. I ordered a Blueberry Chilton for the nostalgia, and it tasted exactly how I remembered it. Chef's kiss. I didn't grab any food this time, but off the vibe and memory alone, I was sold on this Fort Worth version of Chimy's. It's smaller than the Lubbock location and the parking isn't free, but I was a happy guy. Home sweet home. read more

7th street gem tucked away! We stumbled upon this one while having a failed attempt to enjoy America's Gardens. When we left we walked down the street to another bar for a drink before dinner. Not wanting another burger, I was pleased to see this place lit up behind Texas Republic. I had the fish tacos... My one test to see if a restaurant has the Wahoo factor. This place... Well.. happy new year! And this would be my first review of 2020.. and why why do I pick this restaurant to be my first? Well.. we have been staying home for a week now, trying to slow down after the holidays and my husband been really bugging me to try Chimy's for 6months now. So that's why we end up here tonight.. I am seriously hating myself at the moment because I wanted to start the year the right way.. in the positive notes but Urg it's sooo hard for me when a restaurant gives poor customer service. Expensive margarita I thought; it's was $11 for a Cadillac without grand mariner shot? And it wasn't strong at all, and it was pretty small for $11 to be honest in my humble opinion. I can get $14 margarita at la hacienda ranch and for sure will make me tipsy drinking 1. But in this case I drank 3 and nothing! ‍ Anyway nothing exciting to be honest.. we ordered fried fish tacos and chili verde pork chimichanga.. fish tacos came in pieces instead of one big fish; so that was very unappealing for me personally, and you couldn't taste the fish at all and I'm a huge fish tacos person so I was left unsatisfied for sure. And then they put melted cheese on the tortillas also, I don't know which are the worse at this point ‍ Chimichanga was not seasoned at all. I was expecting spicy and gooey chili verde that has a little punch but nah, not even worth mentioning. They also got our order wrong and instead of apologizing they told us that it was our fault that we didn't speak loud enough! And that we didn't repeat the order to make sure it was right? Hmmm.. I ain't the server or the order taker?? Really? At this point I'm just super annoyed already. I'm still superstitious about coming back but, I might give them one more try and see if it gives us a better experience next time! read more

My husband went to Texas Tech, so of course we had to visit this fun sports bar. He loved Chimy's in Lubbock, so I was excited to experience this location. At 3:30pm on a Saturday, this place was packed. It was half Tech fans of all ages watching the basketball game and half TCU college kids. You order food and drinks at the counter, find a table, and your name will be called when your food order is ready for pickup. They will make the drinks in front of you while you are paying to take to your seat - I loved not having to wait for my drink at the table! We sat in the small outdoor patio area since the inside and covered heated patio areas were full. They have speakers outside to hear the basketball game, and we could still see a TV through the clear wall of the covered patio. The NFL playoffs were on another TV as well. THE DRINKS! This is the main reason for coming here. Generous pours - that's all I can say. I liked the Porsche rita with Patron Silver, but they have a whole tier of ritas to select with different tequilas. At the top of their mixed drink menu at the ordering station, you will see "Dr. Pepper Shootout." Order this drink! It comes with four straws to be drank quickly in a race, but my husband and I shared it. It's a mix of four liquors and a splash of Dr. Pepper. It tasted like a vanilla DP to me with amaretto, so I'm not sure of the other liquors used. My husband said the drinks were just like he remembered in Lubbock, and I loved them too. The nachos were bland and a 3 out of 5 type appetizer. I knew this was a casual, fun sports bar known for its drinks and chill atmosphere, not necessarily the food. The chips and queso were delicious! The chips come with a special seasoning on them that's addicting. I could eat them all day. Parking is limited, so I would Uber/Lyft here if you live locally. We paid for street parking and walked a bit since we drove from the Dallas area. It was a great stop after visiting the Fort Worth Zoo just 2 miles away. We will be back! read more

Went to Chimy's for the first time today. How have I missed this great little sports bar? I've been all around it, but never in it. I apologize Chimy, please forgive my ignorance. The Porch was popping! Perfect weather to sit outside, take in some warm winter weather, sip on a Margarita ( Warning! These margs are not to be underestimated, they definitely pack a punch), nibble on some chips and dips watch a game (or two) and hang-out & chat with friends. The food was great, I had a chicken chimichanga and some guacamole and my co-worker had the hamburger with the jalapeño brioche bun. The food was tasty and the salsa bar was impressive. 108 outside and they have over half of their dinning closed to a private group during dinner time and on Taco Tuesday. So there were several very hot unhappy people eating out on patio, all jockeying to get in the a/c. Food ok, my marg melted faster than I could drink it, so pretty sweet. Wtf is the parking here? It says you can get it validated but it says you have to register upon parking. Since I'm not trying to get towed and it's west 7th, I register and pay $15 for two hours parking. I go inside and ask for parking validation and they say I can't get it validated since I already paid. They say you're supposed to like, register for the 15 min free parking, then go inside and get the validated parking for the rest of your time (for free). Wtf, how would anyone know to go through this convoluted thing? Validation everywhere else in west 7th is just park and get your ticket, and the restaurant can scan the ticket, then you use the ticket to leave the garage, or you pay upon leaving. Apparently this parking system has been up for five months, and I bet other people have gotten ripped off. Why are the signs no different?? The food is like ok. There is a toppings bar which is nice. The "crispy beef taco" during happy hour is just a hard shell taco with ground beef and shredded cheddar. You definitely get what you pay for but it's not even worth the $1.50. Overall: best margaritas in DFW. They're good and strong. This place is a lot of fun and you have to be a miserable person who hates life to not enjoy Chimys Parking: they have a parking lot right next to Chimys. It does tend to fill up pretty quickly after 8:30 PM, especially during the weekend and some random Thursday's considering it's right on west 7th Atmosphere: they have a decent sized patio and a huge indoor space. The patio has heaters for the cold days and they also put up a tent that keeps the cold out. It does get a little packed outside, especially if there's a college football game going on! They have another room in the back of the restaurant. It can get pretty loud in there as well as after certain hours it's a lot of yuppies, recent post grads, and college kids (tip- if the line inside to get drinks is long, go outside to the patio bc the line is usually shorter) Food: you cannot go wrong with their nachos or the cheese fries. Great drunk food lol or if you want some carbs to help with that strong margarita. They do have a full menu. My friend is obsessed with their chimichanga Drinks: Margaritas cost about 7 dollars. If you keep your tab open they will keep your card. I recommend doing the half & half which is half frozen and half on the rocks. Also, the Dr Pepper Shootout is one of my favorites as well. I never ventured in until now, and I understand why. The only way I could imagine someone truly enjoying the food is being totally drunk. The grilled fish taco has a whole fillet, but there was zero seasoning! You can figure out the weird grill taste plus some melted cheese. The chicken quesadilla also lacked flavor. It was bean mush with small amounts of chicken. They even wronged easy menu items like chips and salsa/ queso. The salsa was watery and the queso tasted like the lunchables nacho cheese. I got a sangria swirl margarita and it was delicious and my husband enjoyed his draft Modelo as well. Going out on a Friday night in Fort Worth and we stopped at Chimy's as the first stop. We came by around 8:30 and wow it was packed!! First off, there's limited parking so it may be best to park a couple blocks over or to uber. Second, there are 3 different rooms that are pretty packed with people so it may be difficult to find a table or a place to gather with your group of friends and chat/eat. We were able to get a table for 7 of us but we had to be pretty aggressive at getting one. This place is known for their margaritas, which were strong! Definitely try one out (they start at around $7). We also ordered a combo nachos, which consisted of chips, half chicken and half steak fajitas. It's a good amount of food that can be shared with 2-3 people. The nachos were pretty average. Overall, good place to start out at if you're wanting to start your evening in Fort Worth. The music they're playing is extremely loud and i think the whole place was just unenjoyable. Once my food was done, I left and went back home to eat. Yup. It's me again. I wanna consider myself a Chimy-an. I can't get enough of this place. While all the other places in Fort Worth fave about having the best margaritas, it's all lies. I've scoured out many places with watered down margaritas. None, and I mean none, is close to Chimy's. I am a native New Yorker and these margaritas have an edge on even... yes..my home state. The only close comparison is Los Bandidos in Colonial Heights, VA. I will say that Texas restaurants should ask Chimy's what there secret ingredient is in their margaritas. Besides the awful parking situation this place is solid. Sometimes there's a crazy line to order but it moves faster than you think. I love their little patio, it's cozy. Not my favorite place to eat but I do love their drinks! They're pretty strong and will have you feeling pretty good at record speed! They're also reasonably priced. Their food is good just not impressive. I ordered the fried fish tacos and it came with cheese and a chipotle sauce. The fish had good flavoring but definitely would've been better on corn tortillas and with a different type of cheese. You can add your own toppings to your order. They have tomatoes, lettuce, salsas, onions, and a corn, bean, and jalapeño mix. My boyfriend ordered the chicken tacos and he said they were pretty good. They did seem to get smaller. Maybe we were just extra hungry that day. None the less, they're pretty filling. We also ordered the chips and queso. The chips were great and had some type of seasoning on them which made them extra good. I wasn't too impressed with the queso. It tasted like heated up velveeta with some onions and tomatoes. The nachos also are huge and loaded along with the tacos. Avoid the shrimp/fish tacos though, absolutely terrible. This spot is nice because they have a loaded salsa bar with lots more than just salsa to add to your food. Super walkable area as well if you are just starting your night. It took forever to get our food. I drank two glasses of tea before we even got our food. The mexican pizza was burnt on the bottom and the steak meat in the quesadillas was horrible and even made me sick to my stomach. Will definitely cross this restaurant off my list. Beware, this place is a scam!! Make sure to request an itemized receipt when you check out because they will include phony charges like "Chimys pen" and "Chimys lime sticker". We asked multiple employees about these charges and they either ignored us, or said "I don't know!". When we asked the bouncer he sarcastically proceeded to hand us a writing pen from his pocket so we definitely could tell something was up here. I would love to actually get an explanation on what these items were, and the fact that they don't give you an itemized receipt unless requested is very fishy. read more
