We had a CHIMNEY FIRE right after Chimney Sweeps inspected our fireplace and OK'd it. They told us the fireplace didn't need to be swept and charged us for the inspection only. The Fire Dept. was called and we were told we were extremely lucky the house didn't burn down. We were able to extinguish it with the garden hose. But now we have to replace the whole fireplace and chimney. A different company came out to assess damages and found a lot of creosote still in the flue and said it could not have been "OK" (as listed on our invoice) when Chimney Sweeps was here. The sweeper accepted double payment from us when my husband gave him his credit card and a few minutes later I gave him a check, which he accepted. They did reimburse us, but not until I noticed it about a week later and called them. Also...We had the sales pitch about roof vents, etc. needing to be replaced but did not hire them to do any roofing work. read more

Called a few weeks ago and spoke to the lady that sets the appointments. She was very sweet and helped me to get a time that worked for me and my wife. The sweep was at my house this last wednesday and cleaned my chimney. He was very polite and made some recommendations. I didnt feel pressured at all. Had some repairs done and felt based on what he showed me that they were needed. I will be adding them to my personal companies that i recommend to my friends. We had them come out yesterday and they were right on time. Very professional as Steve the owner was there and a helper who was great and considerate. The prep work they did around and in front of the chimney was great as no soot went anywhere except the bottom of the fireplace.They found that we needed a new top to our smoke stack as it was wrong and didn't allow cool are to come back down the stack.When they were done everything was so clean. Chimney Sweeps Inc., called me in Nov. to see if I needed to have my Chimney checked. i agreed and two guys, one in a top hat, came to my house. 1st. he said I had cracks in the fire box and in order to be safe, I needed to have a stainless steel sheet put in the back wall. Cost, $1,500 and that was the cheapest way to make it safe. Then on the roof, I was told the cap needed to be replaced, and the spark arrester needed to be replace, by law, they have to keep any sparks contained, and since the mfg. is out of business, it would be custom. Cost, $1,000. I knew both charges were way out of line, so said no. After he left I looked at the spark arrester and there's no holes, nothing plugged up. Then a few days later, someone called me and asked if, "Joey told me all six of the vents on my roof were "split"?" I told him no, but how much would that be. He said $1,000. I told him I'd have my son fix them. I've had another professional and a contractor look at the vents (galvanized tube, nothing to "split") and fireplace cap and there's nothing wrong with any of them. I had Jan of ChimTech (I had used him before and was totally satisfied with a firebox insert) check the fireplace box and he looked and looked and couldn't find a single crack. He looked from the ground at the spark arrester and pointed out it was fine, again no plugged up sections of the hardware cloth, some rust visiable on the cap, but no holes. I friend of mine bought a new chimney cap at Home Depot for $110. AND, the mfg. of my chimney is NOT out of business. read more

on 12/7/15 they came to my home for chimney inspection and cleaning. No cleaning was necessary they said even though it had never been cleaned in 18 years that I know. However they found $3239 in repairs and said chase cover was leaking and when I said I would seek another estimate I was told by them they were the only company in the area that did these type of repairs. That was false and subsequent inspection, for another $100 fee, yielding only about $325 in repairs and without all the urgent stress. It even included fixing a seal on the fireplace whereas Chimney Sweeps, INC 's repair was all to Chase cover which is the highest point of roof and difficult for the home owner to inspect. I suggest you seek secondary estimates. read more

If I could give NO stars I would. I had them out to clean 2 of my 3 fireplaces in my home in east county. I was told there was excessive damage to one of my chimney's and that it needed a CUSTOM termination cap and a chase cover which was going to cost me $2400!!!He showed me some diagram of a chimney picture, told me it was unsafe to use my fireplace and told me I could receive a 10% discount if I fixed it today. Red flag... How can you replace a "custom" termination cap if it is in fact CUSTOM. He wanted to charge me $750 for that alone. Needless to say, I told him NO THANK YOU and sent him on his way. When I called for a second opinion from another local company (Chim Tech) he was very honest and told me that the guy was trying to SCAM me. The part did NOT need to be replaced, was NOT custom, and would only cost me $235 installed. I think this company is dishonest, unethical, preying on people who don't know better, and taking their hard earned money while not actually correcting the problems that need to be fixed thereby really jeopardizing the SAFETY of my family. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. read more

Chimney Sweeps recommended and installed a chimney cap and spark arrester with a life time warranty in my home 7 years ago. I paid $543. Now they said they installed the wrong brand and want me to buy a new one. Oh they said they will give me $200 credit for the wrong product that they installed, so it's only $400 more. They also say that the wrong product that was installed is not safe. read more

I hired a chimney sweep co. that I met at the Rancho Bernardo Street Fair a few months ago. He told me I had cracks in some of the bricks and it would be very dangerous to have a fire in it in that condition. He suggested I buy a fire shield that cost around $280. Fixing the cracks was around $60. I said just fix the cracks for now and I'll think about the shield. He would not do it unless I purchased the shield too. He was using scare tactics on me and made me feel very uncomfortable. A few days ago I called Chimney Sweep, Inc. to fix the cracks. This is a family owned business and I was extremely pleased with the work that Ariel, the son, did. Ariel also got up on the roof and cleaned the top part of the chimney which the other guy did not bother to do. Ariel was polite, knowledgeable, honest, and on time. He did some extra work and did not charge for it. I highly recommend this company. Just a word of advice, get your chimney cleaned in the spring or summer as they are VERY busy in the fall and winter. read more

they are like stalkers.I told them 2 years ago I would NEVER do business with them again after they kept calling and calling...if I wanted my chimney swept I would call them.Then this evening they started calling again 3x...they are the WORST..,.they try to scare you into doing some stupid flashing.I had then put a "new spark resister "on my one fireplace and they come back 2 yrs later and say it is rusty and want to put a $1200 stainless steel.They are rip off artist and get mad when you do not buy what they are trying to rip you off with...STAY AWAY!!!!!! read more

If you read other one star reviews, you will see a pattern. I also felt that I was scammed by Chimney Sweeps, Inc. They recommended work totally $1,600. I needed a cap, crown, waterproofing and cracking repair. My rebar was rusting. In reading other reviews, my story is the same as others. I contacted another chimney sweep company who surveyed my chimney and repaired it for $150. I feel like they tried to take advantage of the fact that I'm a single, female, homeowners. I've lived in my home for 22 years, and have never had such a thorough cleaning before. They actually used long brushes from the roof down the sides to clean it, which has never been done before. They were comparable in price, and included the inspection at no charge. read more

Had to have these guys come out to look at my grandparents' Chimney because my grandfather is too old to get up onto the roof anymore. I couldn't have been happier with the company. The gentleman that came to the house was friendly and knowledgeable and was able to explain what was going on and what needed to be fixed. They were extremely respectful and efficient. This company contacted me and my first mistake was not making sure they were licensed; I had only hired them for a $49 inspection and $119 chimney sweeping. But they told me my chimney was unsafe and charged me over $2000 for the parts. A little investigation on-line quickly showed they had charged 3 times as much as other companies and they were not qualified to do the repairs. I was only able to get a partial refund, so their inspection cost me $499.99 and that's not a bargain. read more

My experience with this company was less than satisfactory. A recommendation was made for a new chase cover stating in the inspection form that "chase cover closed in, no air flow as required by manufacturer. Should replace and properly size and space to prevent fire". Sounds pretty ominous. However, I am an architect and I am very familiar with building codes. I asked Julian of Chimney Sweeps to provide me with the relevant manufacturer and code information. Julian said he would send me the information. I received nothing. In the meantime, I did further checking on my own and found no requirement by the codes or the manufacturer to have a chase cover with air flow. In fact, the installation that Julian suggested would have allowed moisture, bugs, and vermin into the chimney chase! Personally, I believe the company was trying to sell me something that was not necessary. I'm just saying buyer beware. read more

Need to watch out for this guy. I noticed just about all the rave reviews I read each contributor stated there was an issue with their chimneys and needed some type of repair. For several years I used this Chimney Sweeps. The last two times, I was told I needed a chase cover and there was no air flow problem into the wooden box and the cover was oversized . . . The Chimney Sweep guy scared me of possible fire. The quote was $1800. I am retired woman in my 70s and don't have that kind of money. Since I saw a Rosem Report that had checked out Chimney Sweeps and how they tend to scam. Their recommendation was to make sure the company was Chimney Certified. I called another certified company to double check because I was worried. The other company guy came out, spent over an hour taking pictures, rechecking everything. Yes, my chase cover was a bit rusted but nothing to worry about for a couple of years and he sealed around. He showed me that the last cleaning (done last November and didn't use fireplace since because I was scared) was not thoroughly cleaned. From the pictures taken, I could see the build up on the side. Not bad, but I expect it to be really clean. My new guy stated he could never quote an immediate price for chimney parts because each had different makers and serial numbers. Cost was based on maker and age of parts. He charged me $65 for the inspection. Plus, I can use my fireplace without worries. He keeps all info and pictures in his computer file. This is a far cry from an arbitrary $1800 originally quoted by Chimney Sweep. Beware, Just because they state they are from England doesn't mean they are any more honest than anyone else. read more
