This company, called "Chimney Sweeps, Inc.," located at 10036 Maine Ave. in Lakeside, CA, inspected my chimney. They informed me it was not in compliance and quoted close to $1,400 to bring it into compliance. I then went to another company that has also been in business for 40 years. They said only a minor modification was needed, at a cost of just $200. Always get a second opinion and check yelp and Google reviews. read more

Do not give this company your true phone number unless you want to be harassed. They will call repeatedly, all hours of the day and night. We have never used them. We requested a quote, which came in at $20,000+ and was wildly unnecessary per the company we did go with. They charged us for an inspection and that was it. Now they have called from their main phone number, I blocked that. They called from a different phone number, blocked that, and all of a sudden I am getting REPEATED calls from a blocked number at the same time in the morning every day. Would give zero stars if it were an option. Bad business practice. And if they keep this up, will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. read more

My 88-year-old mother-in-law hired this company to clean her fireplace. Instead of performing the cleaning service, the technicians recommended exterior chimney repairs which ended up costing her over $2,500. While performing work on the roof near the chimney, the crew broke her skylight. What has been most frustrating is what happened after that. It took six months just to get someone to come look at the damage, and then another six months of repeated phone calls before they sent a repair company to evaluate it. That company informed us the skylight replacement would cost over $5,000. The owner then refused to pay for the replacement and instead attempted to have one of his technicians repair the skylight. The technician arrived with the wrong parts, said the correct parts would be ordered, and left. That was the last we heard. As of today -- over a year later -- the skylight is still not repaired and the owner refuses to return calls. To make matters worse, the fireplace cleaning service that was originally scheduled was never completed. We tried for over a year to resolve this directly before posting this review. This has been a very frustrating experience, especially considering this involved an 88-year-old homeowner who simply wanted her fireplace cleaned. I would not recommend Chimney Sweeps. They are dishonest, tried to sell several thousand dollar repair on the chimney after they cleaned it. I did not bite but got the chimney cleaned for a decent price. Had another company come out for a second opinion. In October we requested a inspection and sweep for the end of November at 4pm. They called and wrote several times between then and the date to remind us of the service at 4pm. We made plans for a show for the morning/early afternoon to be home by 3pm to be home on time for our 4pm. We get a call while we are on the way to our 11am plans asking us if they can come early, we tell them that we were out until 3. The technician calls and angrily tells us that he needs us to cancel otherwise he will have to sit around and do nothing for 4 hours. That's not how appointments work... Then when we were forced to cancel, we were told that they won't be able to give us another appointment until late December. When we asked for someone to call us later after our event, no one did. Very unprofessional, it's a shame. Why make an appointment if you aren't going to keep it? We are a Veteran household, we live for schedules. read more

I hired this company 3 years ago after we had a chimney fire on Christmas Day. They came and did an inspection and cleanout, and instructed us our whole flue liner was cracked and there was a lot of creosote buildup that required a chemical clean. The estimate given was probably in the $8-12k range. We decided to have no fires for awhile. After having a second opinion come out when we were ready to repair, we find out there are no safety issues, only with minor cracks at the very top of the flue liner and crown mortaring (under $1,000 worth of work). And we were told they did a lousy job of cleaning. We learn to find out, they do this on a regular basis. They arrived, told me they can't sweep it for reasons that I didn't understand (nor does it matter because the appointment was for a chimney sweep NOT a consultation), and then charged me $79. After ten minutes of a pressured sales call in which I could hardly get a word in edgewise they confirmed I was on their "do not call" list. The phone call consisted of repeated pressure and putting me on hold to look up records of a past inspection. When I stated I'd had the work done by another company they insisted it must have been them but then put me on hold to find out it was not them, then they went right back into the sales pitch again, when I repeated I only use our chimney to vent a standing portable room AC and never use it for fires (the double fireplace design is poor and the second chimney draws smoke down form the chimney in use) it seemed they just wouldn't listen. Raised our blood pressure 10 points dealing with sales pressure. Our good friend who's in the business referred us to authentic fireplaces because of the age of the chimney and they fixed the brick structure. Since we don't use the fireplace for fires we don't need it cleaned and we will have our friend at Bernie's fireplace and chimney do all inspections. Please leave us alone. read more

I requested an Opt. to clean my Chimney. One man cleaned the inside of the fire box while another guy was on the roof to clean the chimney. I never saw him perform this task but he did say I needed a new cap and chase cover due to rusting costing $2298.00. Everything had to be paid in advance and while I was waiting for the parts to arrive, I called a couple other chimney companies asking for pricing. I was surprised to find that I could have had the parts and the service for half the price but because I had paid for half, they would not refund my money. I used them to clean my pot belly stove. They convinced me I needed a new roof cap. Lifetime guaranteed 500.00. Stainless steel. Who hoo. Wrong. I referred my son for cleaning. First thing the 2 employees tell my son is his 1979 fireplace" is a piece of shit" and needs to be replaced. My son thought they were kidding and continued with the cleaning. My son ended up on the roof and used their broom to clean while they watched on the ground. I'm beyond embarrassed and pissed I recommended this company, especially to my family. Used them for years for inspection on our older (built 1949) home with a brick chimney, ok as far as that goes; did new chimney cap, etc. in the past; but annoying with constant calls for appointments. Fast forward to last December, they came out & said we needed 5K chimney relining, fireplace was dangerous to use, said if we gave then a deposit of 2K "today" they would discount the price down to 4.5K. We gave them the deposit, scare tactics worked. But then I called another reputable local chimney cleaner for a second opinion, learned that it is ILLEGAL to ask for anything more than a 10% deposit on any repair/contracting job. I called & cancelled the contract, they guy on the phone still tried to argue with me until I stated it was ILLEGAL to ask for such a large deposit - we got all our money back. I made an appointment with our local Village Chimney Sweeps Inc. (they only do cleaning & inspections) - seems NO repairs were needed - the chimney did need cleaning which was done in amazing fashion, looked like new inside, everything explained fully with photos & complete answers to all questions - 272.00 & worth every penny. Will never again use this company, and a huge thank you to Emily at Village Chimney Sweeps Inc.for saving us 4.5K. They came out to clean our chimneys and look at our gas fireplace problem. They said we had a bad fire in our chimney in the past and quoted us $4,500 to repair the interior. So, we got another quote from a local service that did a lot of work in our area and they said "we did not" have a bad fire and the chimney was fine. They fixed our gas problem and put on two caps on top of the chimney's for under $800. They said Chimney Sweeps were trying to rip us off! read more

Timeline of events 22 September 2022 Chimney Inspection for our home (see picture attached) Downstairs has 3rd stage Both chimneys have exposed brick in the smoke shelf and bad fluke seals Unsafe to use Gas log pipe too long 3 November 2022 Chimney Inspection for our home (see picture) All items found satisfactory Gas logs ordered 24" gas logs charred split; $569.82 deposit paid 3 November 2022 thru 15 November 2022 Multiple calls made to resolve this, Chimney Sweeps said a stage 2 inspection would be provided at no-cost to resolve the large discrepancy between the two inspections less than 45 days apart. 17 November 2022 stage 2 inspection date is set for 22 November 2022 22 November 2022 stage 2 inspection for our home Stage 2 inspection takes place.  Stage 2 inspector states "Both previous Service Technicians fucked up; they were both wrong". Remaining Issues We have not seen the results/report of the stage 2 inspection It has been over 18 work days since the stage inspection and have not seen the report We have not heard any updates on when the logs will be installed We were told the logs were in stock and it would take 3 to 6 weeks to have them installed.  We have had zero communications on setting an install date.  We are on week 6. Outside of providing a stage 2 inspection over 12 working days ago (still waiting on an official report) - nothing has been done to resolve this issue. Chimney Sweeps called Dec 10th and said we would be refunded and have the stage 2 report by COB 14DEC2022. Neither has happened. UPDATE 15DEC2021 Response from National Fireplace Institute thank you for contacting NFI and I am sorry you are having trouble with this chimney inspection. I have found that the company in question does not currently have an NFI Certified technician on staff so I will contact them and have them remove our logo from any website and or documents that they are using until they do have a certified technician. read more

When they explained the process of relining our chimney it sounded as though it was a major job. We decided that it needed to be done so we contracted to have the work done for $3420. However when they performed the work it only took 2 men three hours to complete. It seems to us that the charge was very excessive for the amount of time that it took to complete the job. read more

Came and inspected interior chimney flue. Polite and on time. A cracked refractory panel was discovered and subsequently replaced. During replacement, a second panel was discovered that should have been discovered initially I'd think. So they quoted me a large price, which was lowered slightly after I complained. Used this company about a year ago to inspect my chimney. They were good. I didn't need service and they didn't try to sell me services I didn't need. I appreciated that. Fast forward one year and I have been receiving about ten calls on my cell phone per day for the last five days. No voicemails left and there is NO reason to keep calling me. Be really careful with the pressure sale; they make it sound like you have to do it. Seniors and first time home owners beware! Represented as family owned but the guy who showed wasn't family. We had two instances with the same guy. First at our home where cleaning occurred and then after pointed out a crack in the motor. The suggestion was to replace the entire back of the fireplace ($$) or to have him patch it. I patched it myself for $7 cement and 5 minutes working time. The second instance was with our son-in-law and daughters new home where the same guy suggested repaint the inside of the chimney and replacing the entire fireplace, $6000.00. This is a gas fire place rather than a wood burning fireplace. The son-in-law was convinced the work had to be done but delayed the decision until talking with his wife. But the hard sell continued. No work was scheduled but a second and third opinion was sought. Look for another chimney sweep with better reviews. read more

Chimney Sweeps came and swept and inspected the chimney for $99. That all went just fine. They noticed a couple of cracks in the rear refractory panel. They recommended two options to correct. First, they could repair the cracks and install a heat reflector to protect the back panel, at a cost of $399. The second option was to get a custom replacement refractory panel for $599. The larger of the two cracks was pretty small, barely the width of a dime. Their prices seemed really high and based on the good reviews of Chim Chiminey, I had them come out. They charged a reasonable $69 trip fee. They said the cracks were pretty minor and recommended repairing them and installing a heat reflector, which they did for $99 -- one fourth of what Chimney Sweeps quoted me! Bottom line, get a second estimate for any repair work that Chimney Sweeps recommends. read more

This past October we had our chimney inspected and swept by CHIMNEY SWEEPS, INC. The inspection cost $59, the sweep cost $99 and to put a new rain cap on the chimney cost $459. We did not use the gas log fireplace after his visit because the inspection showed the liner mortar needing repair. It's now July and a highly recommended and consistent 5 star rated company came out to give an estimate of work to bring the firebox and liner up to par. They concurred that the chimney liner had the physical problems described by Chimney Sweeps, Inc. However, when showing them the paperwork from Chimney Sweeps they were surprised that it showed the chimney having been swept, because in their opinion it had not been swept. They showed me the interior, using flashlights. By the way, they don't charge for doing a sweep prior to their other work, so they weren't trying to get more business out of me. They were also surprised by the high cost of the rain cap. In their opinion much more than reasonable. But they left it at that, refusing to say anything negative about another business. I'm writing this simply as a warning to others to shop around, to be as selective as possible when looking for a chimney sweep. In our case the people we chose did an inspection and properly described the physical problems in the chimney lining. But the sweep itself appears to have never happened and the cost of the cap appears to have been overpriced. read more

They came out promptly. Lots of brochures to look at. They said my chaise cover was shot. Ok, it's 30 yrs old, could be plausible. Showed me pictures etc. Played it up a lot. Then they hit me with a $ 2,200 estimate to replace with stainless steel ($150 off if regular steel) I said that sounds real high. They said they would be lucky to make a few hudreed, with multiple trips etc. I'm thinking I got a full 400 sqft aluminum patio enclosure built for double that, with two guys working on it for days. How can it be that a chimeny cover could be so much? Tried to close on the spot, several times, because they would apply the $60.00 estimate. We said we needed to get another bid, especially since I checked yelp after that price, they took the $60 (in cash), left clearly put off and left no reciept or estimate in writing. So after another reviewer here suggested chim chimeny from vista, I called them and they came out and just refurbished my existing chaise, explained it needed some sheet metal screws, some sealant, Swept, vacuumed, so great, no upsell. It was under $200.!!! I am grateful to chim chimney and wholeheartedly recommend them., they get great reviews I would bet the guys in the top hat would have done good work maybe. But we are talking over an order of magnitude here and have like 3 fires a year if lucky. Moral to all considering, get estimates before considering them. read more

Had these guys come out in 2014 to clean our 2 chimneys. They did a fine job. However, like so many here, they mentioned that our Chimney cap/shroud and the crown/chase cover were unsafe or wrong for the chimney and needed to be replaced. Said we could burn our house down if an ember went into the wrong area because of a gap. The estimate for repair/replacement was almost $3000. I took them at their word and immediately STOPPED using my chimneys. I don't have $3000 to repair something I almost never use. This is not my problem with them. My problem is that they call me at least once a year to try to get me to have them out again to inspect/clean my chimneys. I tried very politely, the first few years, to get them to update my records that my chimneys are not being used and to please stop calling me. If they were polite throughout the whole encounter, I wouldn't even care. But - they're not. As soon as you decline their services, they just hang up. Not a goodbye and thanks, but "click". It just happened again today. I'm over it. I blocked the number and decided to leave this review. Do yourself a favor and don't hire this company. read more

Do not trust this company - get a second opinion. We got a flyer offering a $99 chimney cleaning and free inspection. They arrived and told me we needed $3000 worth of repairs. Our neighbors coincidentally had a different chimney service out the next weekend and they confirmed the repairs were extremely overpriced. This place is super friendly and easy to book with but I would not recommend them to anyone because I feel like I got scammed. I wish I had seen these other reviews before I made the appointment. Really wasn't expecting much from a Chimney Sweep. I mean, this is Southern CA. But then when Steve came out he took the time to educate my husband and I on the potential damage that can be done to our home over time by way of an uncared for chimney, even when we aren't having regular fires. I am so glad we had them out. The repairs we needed were done right there that day, so we didn't have to schedule another 2 or 3 days of work in our home. What a terrible way to make money! We're in escrow and the general inspector suggested a chimney repair estimate. Unfortunately I trusted this company and wasted my money on an estimate. They gave me a laundry list of repairs using scare tactics including claims that the builder (in 2000) made the chase and caps incorrectly and that we were at risk of a fire. The roofer laughed at the estimate and tipped us off. After a little research these jerks do this all the time. Almost all of their comments include a bogus $2k chase and cap estimate that was later disproven. How sad to take advantage of new homebuyers and exploit fears of fire to make an extra buck. No thanks... I'll find an honest company to fix only what needs fixing and not steal my hard earned money. read more
